Issues With Drivers (Not the usual) - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone else have issues with their drivers installing on their computer? DO NOT WORRY I have done numerous search on here, and tried every "fix" from XDA threads before I even posted this. In fact I believe it's my second one since I haven't been able to get some help. As stated before, I'm not sure if it's because of my work computer (It shouldn't be, my three co workers who hack their phone, 2 same device, have had no issues only me) or what but every time I try to install, it gets about 2/3 of the way and then stops and says it cannot install it. Even when I hook up my phone, or use Kies, it doesn't recognize CDC Serial or Samsung_android. YES I have USB Debugging enabled, but for the friggen life of me cannot get those two to be recognized therefore can't use Odin. It's getting really annoying so anyone really good with computers have any advice here? Thanks!

I'm assuming u have tried different USB ports? I know my front one is screwed from using casual in the past on my note deuce

I had to switch out numerous different USB cables, finally got an old Motorola one to work and recognize my phone.
Just a thought

Question about USB Tethering

Yea I just got the Tmo Vibrant the other day and I can't get the usb tethering to work. I tried with the pda.net app that came with the phone and had no luck at all. This is a stock phone, it hasn't been rooted or anything. Can someone please tell me what I have to do to get this to work, or point me in the right direction. I been searching for the past 2 days and came up with nothing. I know about wifi hotspot but that looses connection on me after 5min. Im looking for straight usb tethering. Appreciate it.

you're in the USA on T-mobile, when you say wi fi tethering but you aren't rooted, what program are you using? Rooting should solve this problem, it is very quick and the instructions are in the sticky thread in this forum.
then install Rom Manager (in same thread as rooting)
then follow instructions here for the Mobile AP software that samsung wrote for the galaxy S.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=760243
as far as I know, this is the most versatile wi-fi tethering program since it doesn't create an ad-hoc network, it is true access point. be sure to use clockwork recovery (available in the rom manager app from the market) to install it since it is a .zip not .apk
I was using the wifi hotsoot on my hd2. That phone is gone now though. It would only hold a connection for a couple of secs though. Im not too sure I want to root my phone though. What I really want to know is, does your phone have to be rooted to be able to access usb tethering.
PDA.net does work fine on your non-rooted phone. Allow the computer side of the installation install the drivers and it will install the phone side too. I used it on my Samsung Moment before I got my Vibrant also. But the rooted path is a much better solution if you want to give it a try. Always plenty of people willing to help here if you have any questions.
Thank you guys for your suggestions. I appreciate it
Do you guys use pda.net or another program. Because correct me if I'm wrong don't you have to pay for pda.net?
I use PDAnet and it is free, but for it to work, you have to install the software on the computer as well and the drivers for the phone. I love PDAnet because when you are browsing the internet on the computer and you get a text, the message will pop up on the screen of the PC and you can reply from there, no need to pick up the phone...
I use easytether. It does the job but I'm not sure if you have to be rooted. I don't think you do.

A friend uses PDANET on his MyTouch Slide since he doesn't want to root.
I do recommend the rooted method though.
I wirelessly tethered today (home internet went down) for ~1 hour on 3G and it was almost as fast as our internet normally is. Nothing special to install on the computer & it's always ready for you just in case you need it.
You can always unroot later if you don't like it, pretty simple.
All you need is either Behold II USB driver or having Samsung Kies installed and it's 100% free, or just change USB mode to Kies and plug it to Cradlepoint CTR-500 router and you're hooked.
I rooted and used mobile AP (see post 2). This has been, for me, the easiest and most reliable solution.
I'm in the "I've rooted and am using the WiFi mobile Hotspot" application crowd. Honestly, the ability to have the phone become a mobile AP was 80% of the reason I rooted the phone.
My phone seems to continue to receive emails and txts while acting as an AP and while I' haven't tested it I wouldn't be surprised if it still received calls...
worth rooting for imho...

Calls work as well.
I will drop T-Mobile for the first carrier that has a non-locked down Android 2.2 phone with comparable specs to the Vibrant that doesn't remove the tethering app and/or charges an arm and a leg for tethering.
I think I'm going to start looking around.
Also, are these phones starting to sell more than they were before? I'm still waiting for a replacement on backorder and it still hasn't even shipped to me yet. It's been a week. Last one shipped the next day (off backorder).
If I have to use this HD2 for another week, I'm killing 8 kittens.

Did you flash android on the hd2
is there a way to tether without rooting? i read the thread and i am getting mixed responses. everyone says rooting is better but is it possible without a root?
bump, any information i search on google seems outdated
Xda search is like ten times worse.
Kies for usb tether is an easy solution free and doesn't require root access - just look for the various ways to download kies and look for the USB drivers that should be searchable.
I've been using android-wifi-tether (requires root) for wifi tether and it does a good job - might have to check out mobileAP since most seem to have good success with it.
Appreciate it

[Q] Phone wont connect to usb storage.. Help

My Epic 4g wont let me use the usb so i can mount it to my labtop. I am trying to add the new cm9 but i cannot transfer the files to my sd card. Anyway around this? I have used 2 different usb cables and used all the different ports as well. Still nothing, also notice i cannot Odin either because of this as well...
I have had the same problem. Scoured the internet and found no solution. Just a lot of people with the same problem. A lot, a lot.
Anyways, what I've been doing is either using airdroid to wirelessly send files to my phone or putting the micro-usb card into a usb stick adapter to transfer stuff.
Don't know if that helps but it was easier for me than odining back, and uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers to see if it magically decided to work again.
Froyo or gingerbread? This is going to sound stupid, but if you are on gingerbread or cm7/cm9, did you drop down the notification bar and select "usb storage"?
This is new coming from froyo.

make sure that USB debugging is off.
Try reinstalling the drivers. Also until you can get that working you can pop your micro sd into the adaptor and pop it into your laptop and transfer the files onto it.
all of the above
check drivers
make sure usb its not set to debugging.
also make sure to dial ##8778# and make sure its on PDA not modem.
It asks me to search for the drivers and when it does nothing comes up. Also even when i hold the power off button where you can cut the phone off/boot into recover/usb data storage. the usb data storage isnt clickable. I tried the drop down notification but there isnt even i connect to usb tab even there, I have usb debugging checked off and still nothing. Im really trying to find a way to odin since i think i got a bad download...im on gingerbread though.
Wonder if sprints updates had anything to do with this?

Can't connect to PC via USB?

I don't see an option to set this as a media device when I plug it in to my computer. It shows up and is recognized as SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface but that's it. Am I missing something?
No MTP whatsoever

I just bought the Developer version of the Note 4. I'm using the USB cord that it came with. I've tried connecting it to two different computers. My Note 2 connects to both PCs fine using the same USB cable. I also have "Samsung ADB" showing up in device manager when I connect it. I also can't connect it to Kies 3. Tried using Kies to load drivers, uninstalled drivers many times and reloaded. USB debug is checked. Not sure what I'm missing either?
Maybe you change the mode.
you can try dial *#0808# then choose the second mode(MTP + ADB).
if you can not enter into that *#0808#,you can try an other method, input ##366633# then choose (DM mode disable).
hope that will help you!

Thank you sooooo much! That did it!! Fixed!! I used this one ##366633# the other number wouldn't work for me. I tried so many "Hidden Menu" numbers last night but none would work. I even read a post that said these numbers won't work on Verizon phones. Since I couldn't get any to work myself, I believed it. I almost ignored your post thinking it was another solution for someone on a different network than mine. Unbelievable...I tried so many different crazy solutions but nothing would work. I was ready to wipe my phone and start over but when I woke this morning I decided to check and see if anyone had updated this thread....low and behold....a christmas android angel did appear...ok maybe I'm going a bit far but I've spent 2 days on this. Just want to say thank you again. It feels so good when a problem like this is resolved

Team,
I tried with both the codes, though *#0808# gives the option to select the second mode(MTP + ADB).
Rebooted device, still the same.

Hello
Settings/Developer Options (Make sure that Developer Options are turned on).
Then check Stay Awake and USB Debugging mode and rebot your phone.
Computer won't recognize my Note 4
So I have plugged in my Galaxy Note 4 via a normal USB-microUSB cable, and nothing happens. It starts to charge, but none of the 3 computers I tried would recognize it. Not as a media device, nothing. This is extremely irritating since I HAVE done this before with THIS phone. It connected to my old Alienware laptop with zero problems. The only difference between then and now is that I was in South Korea, and now I'm not. This is a Korean phone, but it's unlocked and has always worked like all the other Samsungs I've ever had. But my US computers just WILL NOT recognize it. I tried the ##366633# thing and it said USSD code running, then 'The entered values are outside the valid range. Check the values and try again.' Beginning to lose my temper over here....SIGH. Any help?
I have the same problem, tried three computers and none recognize it. I tried the *#0808# method too, it changes the usb debugging checkbox to checked but the whole setting is still greyed out. When connecting to the computers the phone starts charging but nothing else happens. I installed the usb drivers from samsungs site too, but it did not help.
Is there any way to get usb mass storage mode??
Has anyone had any luck getting this working? I'm having the same problem! I have tried entering all of those codes mentioned above, have rebooted the phone and am not even sure what to do anymore. I really don't want to do a factory reset to my phone, but I'm running out of ideas and there doesn't seem to be any fixes out there that work for me. Please help!
I tried dialing the ##366633# but it didn't work. I kept on getting an error saying something like unknown MMI.
This is what I did and mass storage worked fine. I don't know if it'll work for everyone's Note 4 since I'm still a beginner at android.
If you haven't, first download and install the Samsung USB drivers to your PC: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SM-N910AZKEATT?CID=AFL-hq-mul-0813-11000946#
Then go into the Developer Options setting of the Note4 and select "USB Debugging" and "Allow mock locations". Then restart the Note 4 and go to a home screen. Then connect your Note4 to the PC via USB. After the PC sees and establishes a connection, you will see the drive: SAMSUNG-SM-N910A (I have an ATT variant). And clicking on it will display one drive for your phone and one drive for your sd card... if you have an SD card inserted. Works as mass storage.
I got the idea here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnQ9uxNogeI
Can't connect my galaxy note 4 (SM-N910T) to my computer
I have try everything and nothing works, new cable, new battery, reset to factory mode, reboot, all the *#0808#, ##366633#, change the usb port for an original one and still nothing. when I plug the phone in the charging mode on the phone goes on but is not recognized by kies on my mac air, and using the same cable I plug in my note 3 and is recognized immediately that means the problem is on the phone, I also notice that when I plug it in to the fast charger is taking too long to charge as long as 6 hours for a full charge. Running out of options! PLEASE HELP.
All this happened after an upgrade use to work just fine before the update.

This is an old thread but Im having the same issue, did a factory reset and it is still not working, Tried all above remedies to no avail. I have synced this very phone to this same macbook pro prior to the 5.1.1. update so it must be that as other handsets I have are recognized by this mac. So I am really pissed off now. OTA Update disappeared

I have the Droid Turbo 2 through Verizon.. The Marshmallow update popped up on my device about a week or so ago and I ignored it. I thought if there was going to be a root for this phone, it would be before the update... So i waited.
Now though, when I go to download marshmallow or do/search for the update, it says I'm up to date (yet it says i have v5). It won't seem to detect the v6 update.
I've been looking all over on what I can do to update. I've tried using the Verizon android update app, but it wont detect my phone (???) and there's no way to do the update using Fastboot. And I'm not clearing the Google Services Framework as I've read way too much on how it can mess up the device.
Does anyone know what I can do to remedy this?
I think Verizon pulled the update a day or two after it went live. Probably due to some reported issues. I don't think they've made it available again yet.
I'll bet if it has been pulled for additional testing, we won't see an update until after the April security patch is published by Google (and maybe they'll also throw in wifi calling?).

We have three Droid Turbo 2's since November. The first two got the update "on time", downloaded and installed both parts with no problem. The third one, however, was never offered the update, and then over the last couple of weeks, despite checking for updates several times a day, it was never offered on that phone.
I tried connecting the phone to my own laptop (a Dell XPS15 - Windows 10). While the laptop recognized the phone, and I could transfer files back and forth, the VSUA (Verizon software upgrade assistant) never responded to having the phone connected. I tried moving the cable from one of the 3 USB 3.0 connections to the sole USB 2.0 connection - still no joy.
Finally, I installed VSUA on another laptop and also tried a different USB cable. It took about 30 seconds, but this time the VSUA actually recognized the phone and offered the update.
The OTA updates had been offered as two files: the first relatively small, and the second 1.1GB. This time, via VSUA, I was only offered a single update - and it was large, and took a long time to download. The install was also pretty slow - but in the end it worked, and the phone was fully updated to the same version that our other two phones were up to after the two OTA updates.
My suggestion: round up a couple of different very good USB cables. Make sure you're using a USB 2.0 port on your computer -- not USB 3.0; I don't know if that's superstition or not, but stories online seem pretty consistent that this is needed to make VSUA recognize your phone, and it worked for me. Make sure your phone is set to "MTP" mode in the USB options when you connect to your PC.
As I noted above, it took several tries on two different laptops, but VSUA finally worked for me, found and installed the update. It takes patience, but should work. Worst case, if you still have no luck, see if you can locate another computer to try - again making sure you're using a USB 2.0 port. I really think that, if you're persistent and methodical, you'll be able to install the update.
So, what's your Android version now? 6.0 or 6.0.1?

See if it detects your phone in kies.
Unfortunately that did not work either I've done a lot of research for this and still haven't found anything I've had at least 30 Androids in my lifetime everyone of them rooted with custom roms and for the life of me I can not get this thing to connect to the PC

If its Windows 10 then upon connection driver will be installed automatically. Also make sure that you are hitting on the Accept (MTP) option on the phone after plugging the USB cable, LOL that happened to me sometimes for first connection after a fresh ROM flash.
I've tried windows 10 and windows 7 but I'm not get the option to select mtp in the status bar pull down
