OTA Update disappeared - Droid Turbo 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the Droid Turbo 2 through Verizon.. The Marshmallow update popped up on my device about a week or so ago and I ignored it. I thought if there was going to be a root for this phone, it would be before the update... So i waited.
Now though, when I go to download marshmallow or do/search for the update, it says I'm up to date (yet it says i have v5). It won't seem to detect the v6 update.
I've been looking all over on what I can do to update. I've tried using the Verizon android update app, but it wont detect my phone (???) and there's no way to do the update using Fastboot. And I'm not clearing the Google Services Framework as I've read way too much on how it can mess up the device.
Does anyone know what I can do to remedy this?

I think Verizon pulled the update a day or two after it went live. Probably due to some reported issues. I don't think they've made it available again yet.
I'll bet if it has been pulled for additional testing, we won't see an update until after the April security patch is published by Google (and maybe they'll also throw in wifi calling?).

We have three Droid Turbo 2's since November. The first two got the update "on time", downloaded and installed both parts with no problem. The third one, however, was never offered the update, and then over the last couple of weeks, despite checking for updates several times a day, it was never offered on that phone.
I tried connecting the phone to my own laptop (a Dell XPS15 - Windows 10). While the laptop recognized the phone, and I could transfer files back and forth, the VSUA (Verizon software upgrade assistant) never responded to having the phone connected. I tried moving the cable from one of the 3 USB 3.0 connections to the sole USB 2.0 connection - still no joy.
Finally, I installed VSUA on another laptop and also tried a different USB cable. It took about 30 seconds, but this time the VSUA actually recognized the phone and offered the update.
The OTA updates had been offered as two files: the first relatively small, and the second 1.1GB. This time, via VSUA, I was only offered a single update - and it was large, and took a long time to download. The install was also pretty slow - but in the end it worked, and the phone was fully updated to the same version that our other two phones were up to after the two OTA updates.
My suggestion: round up a couple of different very good USB cables. Make sure you're using a USB 2.0 port on your computer -- not USB 3.0; I don't know if that's superstition or not, but stories online seem pretty consistent that this is needed to make VSUA recognize your phone, and it worked for me. Make sure your phone is set to "MTP" mode in the USB options when you connect to your PC.
As I noted above, it took several tries on two different laptops, but VSUA finally worked for me, found and installed the update. It takes patience, but should work. Worst case, if you still have no luck, see if you can locate another computer to try - again making sure you're using a USB 2.0 port. I really think that, if you're persistent and methodical, you'll be able to install the update.

So, what's your Android version now? 6.0 or 6.0.1?

I posted this on the Marshmallow 1 of 2 thread under the Droid Turbo 2 General forum, I had the same issue with my wife's phone. I used Verizon SUA utility and was able to update with no problem. Hope this helps.

Question about USB Tethering

Yea I just got the Tmo Vibrant the other day and I can't get the usb tethering to work. I tried with the pda.net app that came with the phone and had no luck at all. This is a stock phone, it hasn't been rooted or anything. Can someone please tell me what I have to do to get this to work, or point me in the right direction. I been searching for the past 2 days and came up with nothing. I know about wifi hotspot but that looses connection on me after 5min. Im looking for straight usb tethering. Appreciate it.

you're in the USA on T-mobile, when you say wi fi tethering but you aren't rooted, what program are you using? Rooting should solve this problem, it is very quick and the instructions are in the sticky thread in this forum.
then install Rom Manager (in same thread as rooting)
then follow instructions here for the Mobile AP software that samsung wrote for the galaxy S.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=760243
as far as I know, this is the most versatile wi-fi tethering program since it doesn't create an ad-hoc network, it is true access point. be sure to use clockwork recovery (available in the rom manager app from the market) to install it since it is a .zip not .apk
I was using the wifi hotsoot on my hd2. That phone is gone now though. It would only hold a connection for a couple of secs though. Im not too sure I want to root my phone though. What I really want to know is, does your phone have to be rooted to be able to access usb tethering.
PDA.net does work fine on your non-rooted phone. Allow the computer side of the installation install the drivers and it will install the phone side too. I used it on my Samsung Moment before I got my Vibrant also. But the rooted path is a much better solution if you want to give it a try. Always plenty of people willing to help here if you have any questions.
Thank you guys for your suggestions. I appreciate it
Do you guys use pda.net or another program. Because correct me if I'm wrong don't you have to pay for pda.net?
I use PDAnet and it is free, but for it to work, you have to install the software on the computer as well and the drivers for the phone. I love PDAnet because when you are browsing the internet on the computer and you get a text, the message will pop up on the screen of the PC and you can reply from there, no need to pick up the phone...
I use easytether. It does the job but I'm not sure if you have to be rooted. I don't think you do.

A friend uses PDANET on his MyTouch Slide since he doesn't want to root.
I do recommend the rooted method though.
I wirelessly tethered today (home internet went down) for ~1 hour on 3G and it was almost as fast as our internet normally is. Nothing special to install on the computer & it's always ready for you just in case you need it.
You can always unroot later if you don't like it, pretty simple.
All you need is either Behold II USB driver or having Samsung Kies installed and it's 100% free, or just change USB mode to Kies and plug it to Cradlepoint CTR-500 router and you're hooked.
I rooted and used mobile AP (see post 2). This has been, for me, the easiest and most reliable solution.
I'm in the "I've rooted and am using the WiFi mobile Hotspot" application crowd. Honestly, the ability to have the phone become a mobile AP was 80% of the reason I rooted the phone.
My phone seems to continue to receive emails and txts while acting as an AP and while I' haven't tested it I wouldn't be surprised if it still received calls...
worth rooting for imho...

Calls work as well.
I will drop T-Mobile for the first carrier that has a non-locked down Android 2.2 phone with comparable specs to the Vibrant that doesn't remove the tethering app and/or charges an arm and a leg for tethering.
I think I'm going to start looking around.
Also, are these phones starting to sell more than they were before? I'm still waiting for a replacement on backorder and it still hasn't even shipped to me yet. It's been a week. Last one shipped the next day (off backorder).
If I have to use this HD2 for another week, I'm killing 8 kittens.

Did you flash android on the hd2
is there a way to tether without rooting? i read the thread and i am getting mixed responses. everyone says rooting is better but is it possible without a root?
bump, any information i search on google seems outdated
Xda search is like ten times worse.
Kies for usb tether is an easy solution free and doesn't require root access - just look for the various ways to download kies and look for the USB drivers that should be searchable.
I've been using android-wifi-tether (requires root) for wifi tether and it does a good job - might have to check out mobileAP since most seem to have good success with it.
Appreciate it

[Q] Wireless Tether versions

I've been using various versions of wireless tether since my Moment days. I'm currently using pre11 on my Epic right now, but I see it's up to pre15 right now on http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list. It's working completely fine for me now, and I'm honestly surprised on how quick the connection is. What is the difference between these different versions anyways?
Mostly added support for other phones,,,and I think pre13 introduced the lock button when tethered, but I dont even se a need for it.

I just got the RC released a few days ago.
Without making a new thread about it, I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong...
I have never been able to get a computer to connect to the network created by Wireless Tether. Can anyone help?
Pre14 wouldn't work for me. Pre15 works fine.

Need a little more detail than that. The network created is AdHoc, have you been able to connect these machinces to other ad hocs?
Not specifically, and I'm aware of the Ad-Hoc...
but one is a literally fresh formatted Win7 and the other is a ChromeOS laptop.
I would think either should be fine.
No luck.
Curious, chrome os cr48?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Yes, and I even know the freshly-formatted Win7 computer has been on an ad-hoc phone-tether network before.
So I'm not sure why, but the same night I asked this question, I also started getting issues. It seemed to be running perfectly fine, but then when I noticed someone else logging onto my connection (I hadn't encrypted it), I grabbed the both and both gave Access Control to my phone only and then encrypted it. Even since then, even when turning off AC and encrpytion, I can only go an hour or so and then the signal drops. I'm not sure if it's even related to me turning on AC/encryption or what since I don't even remember how long I was running it before someone tried hopping onto my signal. At this point, since 11 has worked, I'm not sure if I should just delete and reinstall it in an effort to erase any of the changes and made and see if that makes it work better, or just go ahead and upgrade to 15.
As for using it, once connected to a 4G connection (1 of 3 lines), I'm actually quite surprised how quickly it works. Sure, I'm not going to be streaming from HULU, but even going to picture intensive threads loaded fairly quickly. Our phones are so badass...I make sure to always remind everyone around me
I couldn't get WirelessTether to work with my CR-48 either. It did work with my wife's Evo however. Frustrating.

Issues With Drivers (Not the usual)

Does anyone else have issues with their drivers installing on their computer? DO NOT WORRY I have done numerous search on here, and tried every "fix" from XDA threads before I even posted this. In fact I believe it's my second one since I haven't been able to get some help. As stated before, I'm not sure if it's because of my work computer (It shouldn't be, my three co workers who hack their phone, 2 same device, have had no issues only me) or what but every time I try to install, it gets about 2/3 of the way and then stops and says it cannot install it. Even when I hook up my phone, or use Kies, it doesn't recognize CDC Serial or Samsung_android. YES I have USB Debugging enabled, but for the friggen life of me cannot get those two to be recognized therefore can't use Odin. It's getting really annoying so anyone really good with computers have any advice here? Thanks!
I'm assuming u have tried different USB ports? I know my front one is screwed from using casual in the past on my note deuce

Samsung Kies requires update to USB driver (Note 3) and crashes Windows 10

Hi there,
I'm having this problem when I try and update my OS on my Note 3 SM-N900W using Samsung Kies version 3.2.15072_2 on my Windows 10 Machine. Each time is the same - Kies connects fine to the Note 3, and notices there is an update - do I want it - OF COURSE!!! So I select that, and then Kies informs me it needs to update the USB driver before it proceeds - please unplug the phone. Then a message this could take a while. After about 1 minute I get the BSOD and windows apologizes but it received an error - attached - and must restart. EVERY TIME!
Tried manually installing the Samsung USB driver but Kies doesn't care - wants to do it for me. Yes, I granted Kies permission to make changes to the computer.
This also is happening with my Samsung Galaxy TabS 8.4 - since the issue is the same I have only started one thread. I've spent hours searching online - driving me crazy!
Suggestions?
Thanks!
Samsung has dropped KIES (About half a year ago), and as such it doesn't support Windows 10. You need to use Smart Switch instead, it's the replacement for KIES. http://www.samsung.com/us/smart-switch/

Huh! Thanks for that - strange that Samsung "technical" support didn't mention it? The agent said they are working on a Windows 10 update to Kies! Will Smart Switch also be used for updates?
I did finally manage to update my phone using Sammobile firmware and Odin - still have to root but at least I am up to date! Thank you for the reply.

Smart Switch is the full replacement for KIES. It also includes the same update function.
The helpdesks are outsourced callcenters, most of them have no idea what they're talking about. I once had an argument with five of them at once regarding the missing alphabetic sorting in the International S6. It wasn't included in the firmware, they claimed it was. Even after the official press release, they weren't aware of it. Poor sods.

Thanks for the comments - installing it on both devices/laptop now!
LOL re "technical service". Whenever I want to get more annoyed than I already am with a problem, I use "Chat". I have very rarely been actually assisted by someone from any technology company's technical support - but hey, it could happen...

Updating to Oreo via PC, help needed

Okay I'm in the UK and I've got a VS995 which does not seem to be able to connect to HSPA+ or LTE (Can get 3g, makes calls, texts and internet) or at least all it's displaying in the status bar is 'H'. A problem I'm trying to get to the bottom of even though I've done my homework and on paper it definitely should all work fine. I'm not sure what to think but it might be a problem with the modem drivers with the Nougat ROM from Verizon, or something wrong with the antennae as I've tried all sorts of settings which work fine with all my other devices. I'm also aware Verizon has rolled out globally a long awaited update bringing Oreo to the phone.
I'm thinking that if I can update the phone it might resolve my issues but trying to do this via the phone itself is futile and all it tells me is I'm on the latest version, other people in the UK with this exact phone have been offered the Oreo update. Now I've downloaded the VZW utility application and LG Bridge along with LG usb drivers to my Win10 PC. But I still can't get a connection or it seems to connect and immediately disconnects after I tick a box concerning some legal documents. I did see in device mgr the LG usb drivers but after a reboot they seem to have disappeared!
So either the LG software is pance or I'm not doing things right. So here goes I'm here to ask you knowledgeable folk how do I get my hands on the Oreo update and what software/drivers should I install to update my phone from the PC? I was going to go down the route of a custom ROM but I'm going to give this official Oreo update a shot.
Hi,
Thank you for answering. Yes, I'm on vodafone (75% compatible) but I've also tried a Giffgaff sim (O2 Uk, 100% compatible) and though I'm getting LTE on all my other devices I'm only getting up to 'H' on the VS995.
I will certainly look into flashing Nougat Kdz with LGUP if you think it might sort out my issues with this phone. No idea how to do this yet but looks like there is plenty of help online. Thanks again
I have done it with this https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/vs995-ota-20a-bin-direct-link-verizon-t3846320
