Updates usualy remove root, you could try enabling the survival mode in the superSU app if you have the paid superSU Pro. This should keep your phone rooted after an update.

I might give it a shot, anyway to disable the update alerts?

Yup, look in system/apps and rename ‘wssyncmldm.apk’ to ‘wssyncmldm.apk.bak

Root & OTA updates?

I own a UK sim free SD800.
If i root it, and install Viper audio for example, can I still install the OTA updates that Samsung releases now and then, or will it screw things up rooted?
Thanks.

Ok cheers, thought as much.
You'll have to flash new firmware via Odin and then root again. Sammobile.com is a good place to look for new released stock firmware.

Or you can wait for Chainfire to update Mobile Odin Pro to be compatible with the GN3.
Then you'll be able to flash the updated firmware directly from your GN3, and keep both data and root.
I rooted and use wanam to fake modified to official. Then I check OTA. This way server will not reject me by said system modified.

There is a few threads in General where people have done it successfully . I don't know if I would be willing to try it , but it has been reported to have worked for at least 2 people so far.

People have done it successfully, but the OTA only installs if your system files weren't modified at all. I couldn't the OTA to install - probably due to changes I made in Xposed. I'm going down the leak KK route for now.

OTA failed for me as well. I have removed or frozen just about anything Verizon. Waiting for the MD5 firmware from Sammobile to download so I can try to Odin the file
SuperSu survival mode
Well, I took the leap.. downloaded the md5 file from sammobile and flashed via Odin.
Alas this is not the way to keep root. I no longer have root. And now have all the bloat from Verizon back on the phone.
So much for trying to be a pioneer.
Now where did I put that hammer.....

Yea me too. I should have used Odin to reinstall 4.3 to stock Then root, then take OTA as my ota wouldn't take.

Does anyone have any tips or what to look for if the update keeps failing?
I had Xposed Framework installed...and I think that's the only thing that I had installed that modifies system files...but I uninstalled it's modifications from within the framework app itself, then unistalled the framework apk, then all of the module apk's, then I disabled SU, but the update still won't take...
Anyone have any ideas without losing all my stuff?
Thanks!

I guess I'm just a little nervous since I've never used Odin before...
But if I follow this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2543386
...I should be OK right?
I just want to return to latest JellyBean (MJE) stock, root (with Kingo), and then update to NC4 with root intact.

Just be cautious. It doesn't always work to to update to NC4 w/ root intact. I did it just to see if it was possible and then posted to let everyone know. Kinda wish I hadn't mentioned anything about it.

I just wanted to report back and say everything went great and I am now on NC4 with root! Yay!
Just for the record, in SuperSU I had set SuperSU to DISABLED, then set the Survival Mode to ON, then set default action to DENY. Not sure if that matters, but that's what I had and it worked.
Thanks for the tips everyone!

To clarify, how did you finally get the OTA to take in the first place? I did the same as you - uninstalled Xposed modules and framework, reverted framework-res, disabled SU, unfroze any applications, but OTA failed.
EDIT: Or did you Odin back, then disable SU, then OTA? Just confirming before I do it
Thanks!
If you really want to keep root I would not flash NC4 at all, you're risking the possibility of never getting it back. No one has found any major changes from NC2 to NC4 so you really won't be gaining much but could lose a lot.

Yeah, I hear ya. I generally like to just stay stock+root, though, so staying with the official OTA is generally my preferred route. Might just wait and see what comes out in the next few days.

say yes to removal of knox and also try apps like ota root keeper
sometimes after enabling survuval mode in super su results in ota failure cos sometimes it happens that you remove some system apps after rooting { which i am sure you also have done } and the update consist of files for those uninstalled apps then you get such error
I have installed ota root keeper now.
in status it shows root acces.
In superSU i have unticked ota survival.
Tryed again to install update from ota but still have error.??

Why don`t you just flash the new updated rom with Mobile Odin Pro and enable Everroot and the other 2 options and keep root and forget about these OTA`s. Roms are available at Sammobile.com/firmwares. Just wipe or rename the OTA policy and notifications.

If i just make the update from KIES.. Can I then get rooted again by CF-Root ? And if I do CF-Root.. Will I still be able to get updates from OTA or KIES =?

What S5 model do you have mate that MOP is not compatible? If i we`re you i`d forget about OTA`s anyway and just flash the updated rom with (Mobile) Odin. OTA`s suck imo.
To disable OTA`s and notification go to /system/app/FWUpgrade.apk (+odex file) and delete it and in /system/priv-app/FotaClient.apk(+ odex file) and delete it.
Yes, you can use CF Auto Root to root again.

I uninstalled Kies myself, if you accept the OTA it will probably not be installed because you are rooted. I would download the new rom from Sammobile and flash it wirh Odin. Have you tried clearing the data of Mobile Odin Pro because the G900F IS compatible with MOP.

If you have updated the rom flash an older kernel version like the one from ANE2 and reroot with towelroot, after that reflash the new kernel from the ANGx rom. Done, you will losse nothing, look in geneal for the thread.
Here's the thread. Confirmed working.

Try to follow this instruction (using Superuser Pro)
1. Open SuperSU settings
2. Scroll down to the bottom, Enable Pro
3. Check Survival mode
4. Uncheck Enable Superuser
5. Install OTA update
6. After reboot, Enable Superuser
7. Disable Survival mode
Note: You have to purchase Superuser Pro for this to work, and you have to reboot after upgrading to Pro.

OTA Update to 4.4.4 Kept Root

I thought some of you might be interested in this...
I was rooted on my SPG511 with locked bootloader, having used TowelRoot12.2. I was using the paid version of SuperSU and had enabled Survival Mode.
I just took the OTA to 4.4.4 and much to my surprise I still had root after the upgrade! So that's good news... Let me know if you have any questions....

Interesting! What version were you on exactly and what did you update to? In the update to 17.1.2.A.0.314 I lost root even though I had the paid version of SuperSu and survival mode enabled. I currently have the update to 23.0.1.A.430 pending and I fear losing root with no means to get it again without unlocking my bootloader.
i also had the paid and lost root, i just found a prerooted flashable and i'm going to use that
I just updated from .314 to .167 and I didn't lose root. Tb and all other root apps still working fine. I have PRO version of SuperSU.
Edit:I didin't even have PRO version of SuperSU.. Root still working
