[Q] Weird happening with my music - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've got a galaxy S4 running on Google Edition 4.4. I have always used MediaMonkey to add my music onto my device, last week I had added a bunch of new songs to my phone (onto the EXT SD card). I went to add some more today and I had noticed a bunch of songs missing according to MediaMonkey. I went onto the device with windows explorer and to my surprise couldn't locate a random chunk of the songs that I put on last week.
Oddly enough the Google music app can still see and play the songs on my device, but according to my PC they do not exist. The only way I can actually view all the missing songs is through ES File Explorer in which everything is in the music folder and seems fine.
View hidden files is enabled, did something mess up when the songs were copied over or what the heck happened?

Problem with SENSE Music player

i tried to play music from the desktop but i can't see any songs or any albums..
i got a message says (The music titles in the playlist no longer exist. They may have been deleted or the storage card may have been removed) ..
in spite of i have songs on the device and on the storage card.. and i can play them with the media player and other apps...
i need your help guys.. how do i fix the Sense Music player to see my Songs/Albums list again!?
thanks alot
Does this happen when your phone is connected to your computer ? If so it sounds like your hd2 id set to work as a removable storage device when its connected to your pc, where the sd card becomes unavaliable to the phone and you can only access it from tue computer to transfer files.
reply
no i set the device on ActiveSync and the device not connected to pc.. still not working :s
Any genius here?
I have the exact same problem. The songs are located on the SD and I can play them with WMP or CorePlayer but Sense can't seem to locate them.
I didn't have this problem 2 days ago, but yesterday I copied 4 more albums to my SD card and since then Sense Music can't locate anything.
I have about 2GB of music but I doubt there's some limit. I tryied removing the SD and soft resetting the device a few times but it didn't fix the problem.
The card is in good shape and all apps installed on it work just fine.
I've had this issue on a couple of occasions. The sense player shows no files, but, of course, there are! I actually coaxed the Sense player into finding them by going to the menu tab and selected Add to Playlist. My files were THERE, but not in the actual Sense UI. I selected a song, it started to play, and then, voila, all of the files populated the Sense player again. It's odd...
not sure if I have the same problem, but when it happens to me, I just wait for ages and then they reappear. I think it just takes the Audio Manager Engine ages to re-scan your memory card after it has been connected to a pc. I often find that I can see files on the song tab before they appear on the Album or Artist tab.
this happens to me everytime i add a track or tracks, and every time i soft reset, all you have to do is go to song tab when phone is in horizintal view ( click library> slide to songs ) individual songs are there l, just play one then everything starts comeing back....
hellyeah!
Damn you're a genious!!
i've been trying for hours..
now i got my music back in sense player!
thanks!

[Q] Where is Google Music downloaded to?

I uploaded 457 songs to Google Music. I did not want to stream all the time so I checked off that everysong be downloaded physically to the device. It all went swell but I'd like to move the songs to my SD card and I can't find any folder where the music would be stored at all. The App size grew, so I know the songs are in there. Especially since I can play them without wifi or Mobile Data enabled. But I have NO idea where to look as media, music, etc folders are all empty.
Am I missing something? It is a stock rom S4 rooted with some stuff frozen but I don't believe anything frozen is related since Google Play operates perfectly short of the fact that I can not locate the physical files.

Thanks. Since I have the S4, I assume there is something SLIGHTLY different. I tried everything I could find and while all processes finished correctly, the end result wasn't he same. The music would not store anywhere different.
I also got Google music + v 1.1 and when I type the alternative save location, all the music that JUST worked, loses all artwork and say "storage full" when attempting to play on a COMPLETELY empty SD card. I only have 4 free GB and about 10GB of music and this is driving me crazy.
I'll just have to physically add music to the device and I assume GMusic will just play from it?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
Internal memory only. Hence why a 16gb S4 is too small a memory size.
Sorta going off topic a tad, but here's how to store Google Music tracks on your SD card: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYFw9bEAzM8
I'm not sure if it'll work on the S4, as I don't have one to try out just yet, but hopefully it does!

My advice Google Music + S4 is a really mess we don't have enough storage space to install more than 3 large games let along our music collection when Google insist on internal storage only.
Your best and quickest option without rooting is to download your music via Google Music webapp then place the files on your SD card. Not ideal i know but a workaround till Google fixes the music app.

[Q] S4 Noob with Question on Storage Access

Hi all, noob to the s4. Was surprised when it didn't come with sd card. Read about the storage issues a bit. Wanted to put my music library in phone. Installed sd card- success. Camera recognized it, all pics go to the card. Loaded a metric ton of music on the card. Phone works great, all songs play just fine.
Now for the question- plugged the device to the pc for the first since installing the sd card. PC reads "phone" and "card" or something like that. Browse the card for the music files and only a fraction of the songs appear. More detail: My existing music library was mostly organized into artist folders, with a handful of song files not being in a folder. Well it is those songs that show up and only those songs, none of the couple hundred "folders" that have all the music. Weird or....
One last thing, and thanks in advance for your responses!
I am a picasa type of guy and that has always been my preferred viewer. When browsing existing phone camera photos on the pc, the thumbnails are really low res and the files only open with windows picture viewer. Any ideas why? Thanks again, I'm all ears.

Android 7.0 can't read metadata properly?

Hi everybody.
I have a Moto X Style, one year of use, and a SanDisk 32 GB Class 10 UHS-1 inserted with some GB's loaded of music (bought at the same time). After upgrading to 7.0 OTA, I didn't yet have any problem whatsoever.
On the SD root folder I had one folder called Music. Inside of it, one folder per artist. Inside each one, one folder per album, and then the music files (all of them -mp3 -CBR 320 kbps o VBR at its best- or .flac 16-bit, max compression). I manually tag all my music files with Mp3tag, ID3v2.3 UTF-16 and ID3v1 (both of them coexist in the same file) and I know all these files are in perfect condition.
The problem started when, exploring through Moto File Manager, I noticed the SD card had a folder called Audio I had never seen. So, I moved all my music from Music to Audio. And then deleted the empty Music folder. Everything via Moto File Manager. Still don't know why in the world would I did that.
All my music was still ok except for my Beach Boys discography. I had 21 of their albums on the SD, and roughly half of them didn't display metadata. What do I mean? Google Play Music showed, let's say 10 albums ok, the rest were shown like this: Album name was the album folder ("[1973] Holland" for example"), it didn't show the album image, didn't have artist or year, and songs didn't have name, only their files' name ("01. 02. Steamboat" for example).
At this point, I backed up my music to my PC. I formatted the SD via Android (as portable). Restored my music. Nothing. I then ran a complete formatting of the SD with Windows, washing everything away. Again, nothing. I hard reseted my device, complete formatted the SD, downloaded my Beach Boys discography from OneDrive again and still nothing. I re-encoded the files. Nothing. I wrote ID3v2.4 tags. Nothing. I went mad, unlocked the phone, erased EVERYTHING with fastboot, turned back to 6.0.1 and OTA updated to 7.0 (don't laugh, I still regret doing so and having this stupid boot logo). Nothing.
I have a Moto 3 3rd gen, running stock 6.0.1. Used the SD there and voilá, no problem at all. Music was fine. I tried the SD in a friend's identical Moto X Style (bought at the same time). The problem reappeared in his device. I tried it in my father's identical Moto X Style (all 3 devices boughtthe very same day). The problem persisted. The music has this problem even when inside internal storage. The problem persists even with a decent media player as VLC (I don't remember well, but I think that app didn't even find these files). The files display correctly in my PC.
Does Nogaut have a failure reading metadata? Is there a fix that doesn't require using a custom ROM or complicated things like that? Is it repaired in a more recent 7.x Android? Why do you think it only happens with a particular selection of my discography? Does it have anything to do with Motorola's nearly-stock Android?
Any ideas are welcome! This is a hell of a riddle for me.
Sorry for my English!

Songs not showing up in LG's default music player

Hi I have an H990DS running Super Rom V20 V4.1 and before all my songs on my SD card would automatically be detected by the default music player but now it won't. It's weird considering that if you tap the three - icon on the top right then go to Folders it would say that its detected some songs within the correct folders it used to have but when you open the folder (still on the music player) it will say No music.
The songs are definitely being read by the device as the File Manager is able to play them, just not the default player. Anyone know what could be wrong?
EDIT: I was able to fix this by simply using File Manager to move all my files to another folder. No idea what happened honestly. I just hope my SD Card isn't dying because it's a 200GB one that I got for free when I bought my LG V10.
