Anyone think we have a chance for it?
probably not officially, but from what we have xda

We will have it for sure. But official is kind of unknown atm because only preview images for the nexus 5 and nexus 7 (I guess the 2013 model)will be avalible tomorrow. I guess wait and see what the devs can do overall we are still rocking a nexus device. Right?
I think 4.4.4 is latest officialy update but not last one, we have xda.

I should have been more clear. I would not assume, nor do I think we will get it officially. BUT....I am not even sure if we will have it unofficially as the ROM has to function with Tegra 3 APIs due to the new graphics abilities. yes/no?
who knows.

Good point. Just thought is would be fun to theorize about the possibility. It would really "renew" the 2012 models viability.

you can say it for let's say 70% that it will come UNOFFICIAL because most custom roms have a backward compatible framework. So that e.g. drivers that are not supported by a newer android version can still be used in that version or a CPU feature is missing e.g. neon in the 2X. Google stopped the support for non neon devices I think in android 4.2.2 and guess what, the 2X is rocking Android 4.4.4
Think that Nexus 7 (2012) not have ART compilation and Android L is only ART. Not official Android L for N7.
But... the community will bring us Android L
I trust on xda for android L in my nexus :highfive:
Android L developer preview image officially live for "flo" (Nexus 7 2013) here: https://developer.android.com/preview/setup-sdk.html#top
Shall the port begins now?
I think we'll have it, the dev on Google IO session talking about Material Design said they "tested the 60fps performance on the original Nexus 7"
This at least proved they have a L build for us, the matter is will they release it to us.

If not official I hope devs can come through. I remember honeycomb was being ported to phones so yeah devs here on theses forums are amazing
Don't worry, we'll get it. I asked the Android team during the Android Fireside Chat how L will run on low end devices and they said they began testing and development on the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 7 (2012). So L was actually designed for our tablet and will obviously have an official build! :highfive:

It has been proven by several custom ROMs that ART runs on the 2012 Nexus 7. So it's just a matter of Google officially enable ART on the 2012 Nexus 7.
But I actually don't think that we'll get the official L Update. Google wants us to upgrade to the newer N7 or even the rumored Nexus 8.

This doesn't really mean anything. Google may work with older devices during development to ensure performance and quality of Material on older hardware, but doesn't necessarily mean they will create an official build for consumers.

Hi all,
we have just stopped to wait for the 4.1 Jelly Bean... and there are already some rumors about the 4.2 K release in November.
Do you think we will see an official 4.2 update for our Nexus S?
I'm guessing Key Lime Pie will be announced with the new Nexus phone(s) sometime before the end of this year. If you have a Nexus device then you will get the update eventually. That's the assurance of buying a Nexus phone*.
*Unless you bought a CDMA Nexus.
But really even if the Nexus S is a bit old, it would be a sad to see Google stops supporting it when the hardware is still capable.

I'm going to guess no.. Nexus S is EOL and Google has to stop wasting resources on it sooner or later and I'm going to guess 4.1.1 was just that. Android Police server logs show 4.2 running on Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7, and two other non-nexus devices. Nothing showing up for Nexus S running 4.2 though.
If this is the case, we can hope the drivers from 4.1.1 will be usable in 4.2.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk 2
The current Android version for Nexus S (4.1.1) is too much bugged to be the last release. I expect a 4.1.2 or a 4.2 version. Or a Lumia 920.
I'd still like to think that my Nexus S will get the KLP update. After all, 4.2 is not that big an update from 4.1. If however, for some reason Google chooses to drop support for the crespo for that, I won't really blame them as the Crespo has definitely seen better days, and as a veteran for the Android cause, no one can say it hasn't been utilized to its fullest.
Posted using xda mobile app
In my opinion Jelly Bean is, with high probability, the last update we will receive.
Anyway I don't think Google will announce another Android version since the 4.1 was release only 3 months ago!
Well,
This is just rumor

Someone's trolling Android Police's server logs. JOO92 is an invalid build number. Build numbers don't go higher than 90. JOO92 would be JOP02. Notice in the Android Police article, they show both JOO92 AND JOP02. Hmmm...sounds like someone realized the build number wasn't right, updated it, and hit the site again. This is total troll material.
Another piece of circumstantial evidence (though it may mean nothing)..."O" is a heretofore unseen branch identifier. We know "R" (like JRO03C, GRJ22, etc) is the release branch. We've also seen T (GTJ61), F (JFN53N), W (HWI69, GWK74), C (ICL53F), M (IML74K), and maybe a few others, but I don't think "O" is one that has been used before. Again, doesn't necessarily mean Google doesn't use it for something, but whatever.
The only point here is that the troll gave himself up with JOO92. Fail. BS.

Yeah, Jelly Bean runs amazingly well on the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 7. It turned the Xoom into a brand new tablet. The Nexus S, not so much. You can tell the hardware has a hard time with it.

I'm pretty sure they will release a build for the N10 eventually. Unlike the N4, they still actually list the N10 for sale on the play store and if it wasn't out of stock you would still be able to buy one. Also, there have been bug reports found from Android L running on the N10, so they are clearly testing it out:
http://bgr.com/2014/06/25/android-l-features-nexus-10-log/
I just hope they don't make us wait until the fall for it. I brought a Nexus device because I want the new Android version on the day of release, dammit!
The day of release IS in fall.

I know that's when the final version comes out, I just hope they release a preview build for the N10 before then. Way before then. Like tomorrow, for instance.
Sundar did say there would be a release for "developer devices" and this is the current development platform for the 10" form factor after all!
I got a message off the Nexus Google team saying this on twitter. "@malctron Android L is currently a developer preview. We haven't announced any news of a wider release to other devices. Stay tuned!" So I don't think they've forgot about us. After all there is the development logs for our device anyway.
I don't know, on the one hand part of the reason for buying a Nexus is the updates, but on the other hand after testing out "L" on my Nexus 7 I'm not eager to update. 4.3 is just as good or better than 4.4 or 5.0.

From what I read there may still be L for Nexus 10 but not a test version. Due to insufficient size of the system partition you may likely need to flash a factory image rather than an upgrade of any kind. This is not a comment about your overall internal storage size but specifically how the partition sizes were allotted. It's the same reason that the N10 does not include both dalvik and art like for example the Nexus 5.

I am wondering myself, that the branch has been released and there is still no testing rom whit Android L. Normaly, it is only a question of days, till someone is compiling the source and release a first testing version.

N7 2013 had it's fun for 3 years. There are tons of developers that brought LP to abandoned by manufacturer devices. I am sure DirtyUnicorns, AICP, Euphoria, SlimRoms, BlissRoms and other communities and also other solo devs will bring new Android versions to our device for a couple more years, I am sure of that
As long as Qualcomm is still in business and delivers drivers for older devices too, we can still expect the latest updates. Ofc we might not get them as fast as we´re used too since newer Nexus devices might be the first to enjoy the lastest Android versions earlier.
But as long as there is a way to adapt the "old" hardware to the latest Android versions built from source, these devices will live for a few more years

Have you had any success with lollipop on your 7'12? Mine is totally useless, cannot work due to lag and freezing when on L, and I doubt M works any better. The '12 really wasn't to last as long as we've used ours. It's still a decent tab with KK installed and not asking too much from it. I doubt M will come out way.
I agree...
I think the last usable ROMs working decently on N7 2012 where those base on android 4.4.4, so I don't even plan to try any M based ROM on it
I think there is something seriously messed up on the '12 Lollipop. It runs great after the initial boot. Hell, even with apps. Then it comes to a crawl after a few days. If you run Trim, it whips back into a performing tab for a short while again. I'm hoping to at least try Marshmallow on my '12. If there is something really messed up as I think, I hope M fixed it. My Nexus 6 runs much better on M than it did L - yes, I know different hardware but things seem more efficient from the software side.
Our devices will not get Android M. Everyone's saying it.
So what is this? Why google worked on these devices for Android 6.0?

The company also unveiled launch devices for Android 5.0—including Motorola's Nexus 6 and HTC's Nexus 9—for release on November 3, 2014. Google stated that Nexus (including the Nexus 4, 5, 7, and 10) and Google Play edition devices would receive updates to Lollipop "in the coming weeks"; one more developer preview build for Nexus devices and the new SDK revision for application developers would be released on October 17, 2014. Probably to give the dev's something to work with rather than officially supporting it, someone will get it booting and that's probably what they're hoping for.

I never thought about this... If this is true, it will probably go down as one of the greatest strokes of genius to happen at Google in regards to the Nexus program. Capitalizing on the unlocked bootloader, and throwing devs a bone without taking the time and resources to support them officially. Those who really want it get Marshmallow, and everybody's happy.
Great....now I don't need to upgrade to Pixel C.
