LG E400f RAM and Custom ROM question - Optimus L3, L5, L7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. Sorry if this thread is a bother. I couldn't find any answers for this, so I had to ask. Again, my sincerely apologies if this thread is nonsense and a complete bother. But...
I installed Andwie's Latte ROM (my first ROM actually). Although I loved how smooth it is, everything seems smooth there, I am actually a tad bit disappointed by the fact the RAM usage always seems high. Although I don't tend to run many apps at a once, when I am browsing on internet, I prefer to listen to a music and as such I ran two (three, actually) apps for that: Viper4Droid, PlayerPro, Last.FM Scrobbler runs on the background. All running Opera. Quite a lot, eh? But on my stock ROM, it weren't a problem at all. I could do it just fine. Now, it is slightly laggy.
My question is; Is that "behaviour" from the phone normal soon after I install a ROM? I noticed Holo Launcher is running on the background and it is the only thing (after I installed it) to run on the background. So I think custom ROMs tends to eats a bit of RAM? Small and silly question I know. But I want to get this query solved. Thanks In advance!

Hey Sohryu
As you mentioned that the RAM consumption is a bit higher at custom rom can i tell you. False
Custom roms dont affect the RAM negatively, if all is fine custom Roms give you more free RAM!
The ROM is based on our 'stock android' by LG (version v10s) which has infact a bit more ram consumption compared to other v10'x' roms.
You may have to revert your ROM to normal stock rom by lg
If so you can use KDZ for flashing stock rom
And rooting (if needed) with superoneclick 1.7
All these information can be found in our forum!

[Q] After a while my Hero gets slower and slower

Hi,
I usually reinstall my HTC Hero with a different ROM every 2-3-4 weeks. Not because I enjoy it, but I experience that a newly installed ROM is quite fast, then over time, gets slower and slower and ends up being unbearably slow, kinda forcing me to reinstall.
My question is, how do I get around this? How do I prevent my Hero from being slower and slower so I can just install one ROM and stick with that?
I am quite sure that my flash has a swap (not 100% sure though, how do I check it?) and I am using a class 10 flash, so I guess it should be fast enough and not slow anyting down.
Also, I tend to think that it's a good idea to move all not so frequently used apps to SD, to free up main memory, but I am unsure if this in itself actually slows things down instead?
Any comments would be great.

The fastes ROM that i used on my hero was VillainROM 13...and damn is that fast or what...Now i use Salsa Sense 4.0 and the only problem is that it killes sometimes my SetCpu and it gets slow...
I'm now sure but i think that a 2.2 stock rocks on the hero...but elelinux has a GB rom that rocks (recommend if you like stock roms ).
PS: clock the phone @ 691 and you will get speed

if you like games i recommend VillainROM 13...even if is a 2.1 android rom but it's fast... If you want a everyday use SalsaSense 4.0 is fun but has some bugs sometimes...
If you want stock android i recommend ele's GB ROM
I see this problem to sometimes but i noticed that the GB internal task manager killed setcpu
I have tried a few different ROM's and best one i have used is Elelinux Speedmachinev4, went to the market and downloaded Android Optimizer ToolBox, and got rid of all the apps i did not need or plan to use (you could also use Adb command line to achieve this aswell as a few other methods), and used the cyanogen setCPU to overclock my CPU to 710mhz. Also using Adavnced Task Killer set to auto kill apps every 3 hours.
And all above combined i have never had lag or slowdown or any problems what so ever.
What utility do you use to flash?
I mean, I had this problem ages ago, I was using AmonRa Recovery..the gradual slowness was becoming a problem for me as well, so I did 2 things:
1. Got myself the latest AmonRa version.
2. Got the latest Radios and Kernels.
Haven't had a problem yet..
yes, same with you,I ususall re-falsh rom again,it is best solve for the issue.
You just need a faster/better rom on your Hero. If your still having trouble I recommend Kimera Rom its stable and very fast.
I've found that certain rom's slow down faster than others, for instance I've been running OMGB for two months now with no problems. Other roms take less than a week to slow down, and lose their 'smoothness'

When you are trying to run an app from your SD card, it takes longer time to receive data to your phone, so you are supposed to separate usual apps and games on different districts. And, installing too many unnecessary things on your phone will make your speed slower, so clean up your apps every months or even weeks is a good habit.
i never had this kind of problem, couse i change my roms almost every day

[POLL] Which is the smoothest one?

I have been using Wolf's GB ROM for 10 days now.
It is not only really smoother than stock SE GB rom, but also so stable. Really, it was a child's play for me to install it (actually it was also my first custom ROM) just like using a stock rom..
Now,
I'm happy with this rom at the moment but i want to try a couple more roms. I'm a little bit obsessed about smoothness of the phone.
Which one would you chose as the smoothest if you have to?
Please answer the poll if you have tried at least two of them..
Further reviews, ups and downs and advices are accepted..
1. Wolfs TW Gingerbread ROM
2. Blue Sparks
3. VMOD V5
4. ThGo2
5. Cyanogenmod
First of all, you forgot T.E.A.M. ROM in the poll.

That's the case with all custom ROMs, installing them is as simple as flashing one or two zips in recovery.
I find that installing a custom ROM is actually simpler than flashing stock with SEUS/PC Companion/FlashTool.

In my humble opinion, which is based on experience since I myself am working on tweaking stock SE ROM for the past 4 months or so, a stock-based ROM is, at the end of the day, a modified but still stock ROM.
Granted there are the popular "tweaks" which are basically scripts that run on startup to optimise mostly the internal Android task killer and/or some kernel parameters, etc. The very core of the ROM, in most, if not all, cases remains the same. That way, my advice is to find a ROM that combines an acceptable by your personal taste level of "smoothness" (which is a purely relevant term, as it cannot be measured accurately), graphical enviroment and features.
Each user will probably give you a different answer because user experience may differ due to countless factors (apps installed, general way and purpose of using the phone). Gamers would mostly prefer a "stripped" ROM with minimal apps to leave them with space and memory for intense gaming. IMers (people using the phone mainly to communicate by mail, SMS, instant-messaging) will most of the times not notice performance improvements between ROMs because said apps are generally light-weight.
For a totally different experience, for example, Cyanogen could very well be your answer.
It is by default much smoother to SE ROMs, alas there might be things missing or not working at all, along with certain inconveniences.
So, it all comes down to what you want to do with your phone and what you feel is better. As with everything in life, obsession is never a good thing. At the end of the day, you want to be using your phone and not flashing it and setting it up from scratch every other day, right? And, let me say, that a poll will never help you as much as flashing and using the ROMs yourself.
Good luck!
Agreed...
cyanogen is great because it uses minimal system resources. It is a nice light, basic alternative, and therefore is quite fast.
As usual Iris explained it so well that a further answer isn´t really neccesary
Just a few summarised words; When you prefer a ROm where everything is working choose a ROM based on stock because just there everything is working especially the camera. Just there you have the Sony Ericcson camera app where you have features that aren´t available in real Custom ROMS.
In this case I can recommend you T.E.A.M Rom. It is very fast, beautiful and the support is awesome. But yeah....Iris mentioned that, too
When your priority isn´t the camera but best battery life and smoothness I can recommend you Tatsuo´s CM7 ROM running with his own kernel.
And where is MIUI? I happy with this ROM

Uhm, ... wrong. I want to flash and set it up every other day, sometimes even 2-3 times a day
Admitted, my desire to flash is greatly reduced since I use T.E.A.M ROM. But FXP046 will be a definite go for me and hell, I LOVE to play with many different ROMs. I have to admit that I reduced the apps I always install to a minimum and only install more apps if I plan to stay a little longer (--> T.E.A.M).
So, seeing it from this point of view, I make the worst out of my smartphone because I rarely can use its full potential. But who cares, flashing is fun

[Q] Stock Ics Revert or solution - query?

Hi guys,
All this bootloader stuff is confusing me coming from an S2..
So far i have,
1. Installed custom bootloader and rooted using After OTA
2. Dont remember how, but installed Twrp 2.2
3. Installed GodMachine 81kernal using the goo manager app.
I have not used the tablet much, but have bought it recently. It came with HC and got updated to 4.0.3 as soon as I checked for an update.
The tablet was fine, had no issues and was running smoothly. Maybe it was the Amoled effect or a higher ppi in the phone, i felt the animations were a tiny bit juddery while entering the menu for the first time.
Thought it was maybe due to lack speed, hence did all of the above.. oc.ed to 1.5 ghz
Even after the OC, the UI felt the same, used antutu as a benchmark. As soon as i installd the mods, tablet became very laggy and choppy, hence deleted the Z-ram file.
On stock ~ 5000 and above.
After mods - no oc - 4800~4900. Sometimes the scores go as low as 1200.
Oc - 6800~7000, as earler scores some times go as low as 1100-1300.
Also.some times the tablet becomes laggy soon after starting and i have newly noticed that everything on the Sd card is getting duplicated, i.e another copy is being created with the same file names and same size files, but diff icons.
Since the all the above did not yeild any usable results for me - I think the tablet and the stock ICS are fine, the UI thing is an android trait (project butter in Jelly bean eliminates the UI thing i am talkibg abt)
Tested an s3 on Ics, same UI thing that i felt, but not that noticable due to screen type and size
Hence, i feel reveting everything back to stock would be a gud idea for me as i just play nomal games and watch movies, even though i like the idea of 1.5 ghz X 2 when wanted for benchies.
So ti get back to the stock 4.0.3, which file should i use? there are soo many of them.
1. Which one.s the latest one? Pre rooted, deodexed and zip alligned also would be helpful.
2.How do i install CWM? Cause when on stock, i tried getting into the recovery, an android image showed up nothing happened. I prefer to have CWM over others cause it is familiar.
3. What advanteges will an unlocked bootloader give over a locked one for skme one who prefers a stock rom? Is it manditory for rooting?
4. Any clues about the Sd card issue? also the galary is gettin my google images up, the sync is off, but j cannot turn iff the jndividual syncs.
5. What package do u suggest for some one like me - i do not want the tablet to freeze and just want a smooth Stock like experience along with any benifits if any (but not at the expense of the battery)
Thankx in advance guys.

Disabled Acer Meida, 3D photo viewer and disbled the photo syncing. Tablet is gud and fluidic now.
But while watching youtube @ 720p using Dolphin browser, the video sometime freezes and comes back again. Audio is fine. any ideas why this might be happening ?

And this attitude is the reason why some people don't wish to help. You have to understand;
1. Everything here is free, and nobody places any pressure to use it.
2. Most issues that users have, concerning bootloaders and CWM, have already been answered multiple times. (search button)
3. People have School, job and family, and devote what little free time to help the others. If a person doesn't respond to a question, it's usually because;
a. They don't know the answer.
b. The problem is a repetitive one already answered (search button)
c. They just don't have the time.
To compare the 500 forum to the S2, is comparing apples to oranges. GS2 users outnumber 500 users by probably >100-1, so it makes sense there are more users in that forum.
A lot of people put a lot of behind the scenes work getting mods, kernels, bootloaders, apps, etc working for the 500/501. Not to mention they do a lot of PM support that you just don't see.
So give some folks a break. Most questions here get answered.

You can OC to 3ghz and the UI will always feel the same. OC has no effect on the UI, but only on games and some graphic intensive apps. You seem to misunderstand what OC does. The large benefit, is UV and some of the newer governors like lultzactive and savagedzen. These are designed to save battery without a performance loss. Also, depending on governor, benchmarks can actually decrease the more you run them. And benchmarks, are never to be trusted.

This is normal as the android system is obviously doing something it couldn't do when it was sleeping or turned off. The ghost icons are pretty normal, as I have them also. You can see which ones are the real files. No explanation for it, but I'm used to it. This is just how "windows" sees things. I would guess it's kernel/bootloader related, but if tht's the worse that happens, I can live with it.

If you only want benchmarks, and aren't interested in gaming or battery life, why bother OC? The primary reason to OC/UV is to save battery and have better GPU performance.

Disabling those, and others, is always a good start. Probably explains a lot of your problems. As with Dolphin and Youtube, good luck. Not much better browser, although Dolphin has a habit of just closing out.

Naw, it's ok Mate.
Everybody thinks that OC is the way to go. But really, it only benefits games, some films, and battery (UV). The 50x series is pretty good about battery once you learn battery management with the help of a good UV kernel. (but hey, I like benchmarks also )
As with the momentary "stutter" when first going into the apps drawer, I can say this, get a third party launcher. Or, do some V6 Supercharge.
Also, as with my 701, under ICS 4.0.4 I had the same stutter. The JB update fixed it.
Rock On Dude!

3. People have School, job and family, and devote what little free time to help the others. If a person doesn't respond to a question, it's usually because;

Guys,
Most of my UI thingies solved !!!!
Just installed the Nova launcher, meddled with the settings and UI is now as smooth as silk..
I noticed that every time i start up the tablet, every thing is laggy- even the audio.pop's
I found the reason for this- the governer, as soon as i change it to anything else, every thing becomes smooth...
If the interactive governer is set after changing it initially, it still remains smooth... one can just select anyother governer (lulzactive) and use set on boot option in cpu master it anyone else has the same problem..
I went for a clean up and messed it a bit
First installed a stock 3.1 from the thread mentioned in the earlier post... but turns out a non WW package does not update OTA if outside the Us (Australia), by this time messes the recovery, hence ended up installing cwm all over again ( thanks to Moscow Desires thread+latest frimware file ) and installed the latest stock 4.0.3 + apex launcher..

[Q] A fast ROM with good experience?

There have been quite a few discussion on which ROM is fast and stable and all, but it seems all of them are quite old and dated back 2010. It would be really grateful if someone can help finding a fast ROM from the latest list.
Following is what I'm looking after:
1. It should be fast (little or no lag)
2. All the feature of the should work (directly or through some hacks) like camera/hotspot/flash
3. voice call from google talk? (I think it can be done only after version 2.3.4)
I don't want fancy graphics or any particular latest version like ICS (but obviously, the latest the better ). I want something which gives a *good experience*. Probably many of you are using such ROM, can you just state some of them?
I tried stock 2.3.3 ROM but it was always laggy and after certain point of time it became really really slow.
The complete list of ROMs are in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849278
From there I tried MIUI V4 FoR X10 which is decent but I think any MIUI ROMs would be bit heavy for the hardware of X10. Also many things like cam/flash/hotspot/gtalk voice call do not work.
Hello vagabondrules!
You will receive a large number of answers because everyone interprets the things you ask a bit differently.
For instance I don't care if I can't play games because I use my X10 mainly as a business tool. I have 62 apps
installed and the only thing I require is for them to work obviously and the rest of the system to function without
lagging too much. I only found this in DonutHD with Doomkernel. I have a few problems with my data connections
(rare and random restarts) but besides that everything is as I expect them to be for such and old phone.
Hope I helped,
Nick
Hi Vazelos,
I pretty much have the same requirement. My main requirement is to use it as a phone with occasional internet access and as a temporary camera. I just want to have what this good old phone can offer with its hardware.
So which version of DonutHD do you have? Does the camera and tethering work?
Btw, did you try FeraLab ICS V4? Seems like its pretty good and stable too.
Anyone else?
try donuthd 2.2.9, its better then 2.3.
all working.
if you need tethering, dont use ics. its not working.

You should look by yourself. We do not allow comparison threads as every ROM is different.

Problems with Goldeneye

Hey guys I just installed Goldeneye on my ATT S4. The reason I left 4.4.2 was to hopefully gain a little more speed, I play a game on my phone all the time called Ace Fishing and every now and then I get a reduction in frames that really hurts me ingame.
Well I updated per instructions for Safestrap users and everything got up and running no problem, but this rom uses alot more RAM than the previous version and the lag has gotten atleast twice as bad since upgrading. I always clear activities and clear ram before launching. Its fine for 5 minutes but then all the background tasks start kicking in and when I check it says 1.37gb in use! 4.2.4 I had down to 535-605MB in use while playing. I have disabled every running app I see in the application manager (that it will allow me) I have also done all the tricks I can find online, like disabling S voice, force GPU rendering, I even tried setting limit background process to no background process which made no difference.
Is there anything I can do to make this rom run as fast as 4.4.2 or atleast cut the RAM it uses in half like it was?
(I chose goldeneye full install not slim, would slim be faster?)
Thanks!!
Atually Stock Lollipop is slow as hell compared to KitKat. I've been using GE for some time and I had to go back to 4.4 because the phone was really slow, I mean... Really. I recommend you to install Pure Nexus ROM, I personally think is the fastest. There're also some ROMs LP bases which were compiled preferably for gaming. Search for ROMs in the "Android Development" sub-forum.
Wish you luck.
I found a solution. I bought a galaxy note5. lmao
