I didn't unroot before I flashed this. However, you will lose root. The new boot loader has the Knox flag, which means if you root this firmware, the Knox flag will likely be set and that may void your warranty. I'm just using mine without root at the moment.
Steps I did was to do a factory reset in stock recovery, then used Odin 3.0.9 to flash the new firmware. Google search for a guide to using Odin. As I did a factory reset, had to install all my apps, etc. again. So, back up anything you want to keep before you start.

I've been using it for a few days now without any issue. Feels a bit snappier than 4.2.2 and battery seems to last a bit longer. However, not a huge upgrade. If you're happy with 4.2.2 or need a rooted tablet, then I wouldn't bother to upgrade. For myself, I always like to try out the latest, that's why I upgraded.

It's generally the default language (which you can change of course) and possibly some pre-installed apps in different country's firmwares. There can be other differences too. I don't think a 4.4.2 firmware for the UK is available for the N5120 yet. There is this German one and some Singapore ones that have just been released too. Other countries will follow.

I'll have the aussie model in couple of days and I want to flash a stock ROM from a different region onto it (to bypass some of the dumb lock downs the aussie one has...)

I *think* its ok, provided the firmware you're loading isn't an older one than what you already have.
Even more sure if you don't have a knox firmware currently...

I asked the question in another thread and got two different answers so I wanted to see if anyone tried it.

I've also got an Australian Note 3 and in the past with my previous phones (Note 2 and S4) I flashed the UK stock ROM to get around the restrictions imposed on the Australian ROM. Before I do it again, I want to see if someone has tried it without any negative impact.
I started a previous thread with this question:
"I have a Note 3 n9005 XXUBMI7 firmware with csc N9005XSABMI1 (Australia) - unlocked, no carrier.
Will the Omega ROM V1.0 work on my phone (ie will, it support English(Australia)?)"
I am interested (ultimately) in experimenting with custom roms - as I did in my previous Note 1. This process will require a root and TWRP/CWM and will almost certainly void warranty because Knox Security digit will be set from 0 to 1 - unless someone finds a workaround.
What I am not sure about is the region coding - it seems that Samsung has a firmware version for every region (Australia is XSA)

All I know is that after being boot looped, I was able to load the mexican firmware... but then after trying to flash SuperSU, which caused nothing but bugs, I tried to reinstall that same firmware and got another boot loop. I am now unable to install any available n900w8 firmware successfully. Some type of flag has been triggered on my phone that's preventing me from using a stock kernel/firmware... that's all I know.

I'm pretty sure that Samsung's strategy is to make their devices a Samsung managed (and standardised) product (ala Apple and Microsoft) by locking owners into their firmware and even going beyond with region control. The only options, I believe, are either to stick with them at their behest or void warranty and support for personal freedom of choice. My view is that if software does not physically damage a device then I should be entitled to warranty claim if there is a manufacturing fault.
I was really referring to stock ROMs rather than custom.
Custom ROMs will flip the Knox switch.

Do not try and flash stock firmware from another region. It will not trigger the knox flag but the flash will fail in Odin and then you'll have to flash back the correct stock firmware for your region in order to be able to boot the phone again. The only way around it is to install a custom recovery and flash modified firmware which definitely will trigger the Knox flag.

The mexican stock for sm-n900w8 went through fine as a Bell/Canadian user... but only the first time. I tried it because there are no Bell firmwares available. After trying to flash SuperSU, and having it crash constantly, causing me to re-flash the firmware.. it no longer worked.

If your Knox flag is already set you may as well try the custom recovery and ROM option since it sounds like your phone is buggered.

Got the same question, I want to switch from the swiss unlocked (AUT) stock rom to either the german (DBT) or UK (BTU) one. I even compared the files of the AUT and DBT tar.md5 and only cache.img.ext4 and hidden.img.ext4 are different, all others a binary identical.
Could I limit Odin to only exchange those two data files and nothing else?
In Android-Hilfe.de an User tried it..
First he had Vodafone Branding, then he flashed the Open Germany Firmware.. Without Problems.. Knox is still 0x0

I had to do a device wipe from recovery menu to reset the CSC from EVR to BTU.
Then I got the FOTA update to MJ1 so it seemed like my phone is now indistinguishable from a SIM-free device but...
Kies still knows something's up. It reports the CSC as BTU but says "Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies".
I wonder how Kies knows? Any ideas?

Ok.
I flashed the latest Unknown Country ROM (XSI) from SamMobile which was "N9005XXUBMJ1_N9005OJVBMI2_XSI". Originally, I was running a Vodafone Australia ROM (VAU).
I used ODIN 3.04 and reset the device in recovery after the ROM was updated.
The CSC is now XSI and the KNOX warranty trigger is 0x0 (Woohoo)!
With the new ROM, it also bypassed all the Australian restrictions. These were:
- Unable to change dock applications
- No auto rotate in gallery
- Unable to silence camera shutter
- Shortcuts not available as an option on lock screen
HD Voice is also still working.
I'm a complete beginner to Android and rooting, I've just gotten my LTE Note 3 a month ago from Hong Kong.
I was wondering if there was any way to root my phone, preferably a way that won't set knox to 0x1.
When I type in *#1234# into my phone it gives me this, if it's useful at all:
AP: N9005ZHUDMK1
CP: N9005ZHUDMJ9

yep should work no problem as long as you have the correct firmware as you said. No need to wipe anything. But make sure you're ok to lose everything as it will basically re-install your firmware.

Hi.
I have this:

And I want to update to this:
Model: NOTE 3 SM-N900W8
Android: 4.4.2
Base: N900W8UBUCNC1
KNOX: 0x0
I already downloaded the Firmware from SamMobile:
Model: SM-N900W8
Model name: GALAXY Note 3
Country: Mexico (Telcel)
Version: Android 4.4.2
Changelist: 922105

Product Code: TCE
PDA: N900W8UBUCNC1
CSC: N900W8TCECNC3
MODEM: N900W8UBUCNC3
And the only thing i need is to know how to Install this Firmware. I have some bugs with my actual Firmware:
1. The adjustment of brightness (i just can set in automatic or a specific brightness, but can't adjust the automatic level, more or less brightness).
2. Limit of data usage, I can't set a limit, is stuck in 100 GB WTF!
Will I lose "Root"?
And that's all folks!

No if you flash the stock rom with Mobile Odin (Pro) and you will keep root. Enable inject: Everroot, superUser and Mobile Odin and flash the firmware (need to flash custom recovery though). Yes if you flash with PC Odin, then flash recovery and reroot afterwards

You can only flash .zip files with TWRP or CWM, tar/md5 files have to be flashed with (Mobile) Odin. I would strongly recommend using Mobile Odin, its a valuable app for Samsung phones that will benefit you for a long time. There are multiple tutorials on YouTube for how to use Odin and Mobile Odin.

Thats right oeps (thought you had a N900), for the N900W8 follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522858. This will not trip KNOX unless you flash a custom recovery later. So it doesn`t matter how you root, if you flash a custom recovery your warranty is gone anyway.

Hello Ronis!
I've rooted my device after install the PANAMANIAN version of kitkat to be able to write over external sd (Just a week ago).
I wonder if the Brazilian released 4.4.2 version is better then Panamanian version. One is from January and the another one from june.
You know if is possible to install the Brazilian over the Panamanian version via ODIN, leaving the device rooted? I mean: just overwrite.
Thanks!!!
Hi guys,
Unfortunately I did not used the Panama version to give a good comparison with the ZTO. I think it is possible to overwrite the Panama version with ZTO but it CAN trigger you knox counter, so please be very careful!
The ZTO ROM is amazing. Comparing to 4.3, the tablet is much more smooth and Hancom office is much better than Polaris. So far, I did not notice any bugs.

So you gonna install the Brazilian version over the Pamamanian version? Is your device rooted?
Sorry but I don´t understand enough to know about knoxx;
Once I rooted I trigger the knoxx?

No, my device is stock non rooted.
Depends what kind of root you use you can trigger knox.
For exemple CF-AUTOROOT will trigger knox, Towelroot dont .... (but towellroot doesnt work on P601 yet).

Unfortunately I used CF-Auto-Root; by de way I tried with Towelroot but didn't work.
I'm wondering about the warranty, until march 2015;
I was getting stressed because de extSD (couldn't write on it) and then (as I did in another cellphone) I rooted it.
I saw a video in with the guy Reset the Binary Counter on Galaxy S4;
please search for: How to Reset Flash / Binary Counter on Galaxy S4! - Triangle Away App
You think that it would applicable to our devices?
My major question is about install the Brazilian version over the Panamanian version. Is it better? compiled in june as panamanian in january...
I checked and they just change one letter (E to F) as follows:
BRAZILIAN
PDA: P601UBUCNF1 E->F
CSC: P601ZTOCNE1 (equal)
MODEM: P601UBUCNE1 (equal)
PANAMANIAN
PDA: P601UBUCNE1
CSC: P601UUBCNE1
MODEM: P601UBUCNE1
Is just download the Brazilian compilation and apply It using Odin?
TKS!
Guys,
Please take care.
With Galaxy S4, AFAIK if you flash a different ROM with the SAME version, it often trigger the knox!
Thus, before do anything, research about it to avoid knox triggering.
Thanks,
Ronan
Rom UPDATED
Hello people!
I updated my Panamanian version to the Brazilian version via odin.
After that I had to root again.
It seems better than Panamanian. (Battery savings and smooth operations);
Now I'm recognizing that smart scroll doesn't work at all.
Is this caused due to the root operation?
It does not work here neither. I am not sure why ...

Hi guys,
I'm hoping someone can help me change my CSC. I keep updating my phone using ODIN and downloading the large ROM files but I'm travelling and internet connections are rather dodgy and have limited download capacity and really need to update using OTA!
The latest update I've applied is DBT-I9505XXUGNF1-20140619102758.zip
Software version: I9505XXUGNF1
CSC: I9505OXAGNF1 (Note: Not DBT so OTA probably won't work)
Is there some way to change my CSC to DBT? OTA says I've got the latest update and there aren't any updates available.
Thanks in advance for any help...

Depends on how much you want to become
What kind of phone you have - do you have root, Knox is in what condition
The change that you want to do will lead to tripped Knox and you will lost warranty
Here are the official CSC packages
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42798446&postcount=3, but before you do something you read carefully
I don't understand. These instructions appear to be for rooting the device? My understanding is that if you root, you can't get OTA updates?
I just want to change the CSC so I can get DBT OTA updates.
I would have thought that I'd be able to get OTA updates with stock firmware?

Nobody said to root
I asked you if you have root
Applications that change the CSC require that you have root
Link I gave you is to flash the CSC with Odin and does not require root, but will activate Knox
I never had to do that (change CSC), maybe someone else will give you a clear and concise answers
Ok, thanks... So does everyone just keep downloading the 1.8gb ROM file and upgrade via odin when they want to upgrade?
