[Q] Hong Kong Note 3 root - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm a complete beginner to Android and rooting, I've just gotten my LTE Note 3 a month ago from Hong Kong.
I was wondering if there was any way to root my phone, preferably a way that won't set knox to 0x1.
When I type in *#1234# into my phone it gives me this, if it's useful at all:
AP: N9005ZHUDMK1
CP: N9005ZHUDMJ9
CSC: N9005ZZHDMK1
Thanks in advance for any answers

Here's a video tutorial on how to root using URDLV. No guarantees that you will keep your knox though so do at your own risk.

AP: N9005ZHUDMK1

Read all the threads including the Hong Kong thread (N9006) ... just afraid to pull the trigger!
Thanks,

yep should work no problem as long as you have the correct firmware as you said. No need to wipe anything. But make sure you're ok to lose everything as it will basically re-install your firmware.

[Q] Rooting on Vodafone UK

Hi,
Wondered if someone could please help, as I wish to root without tripping knox, as it's important I have secured work emails.
Just upgraded from Xperia Z, and got experience of rooting that in various ways, along with rooting other Android phones. However, been a while since I had a Samsung phone, but not had one with knox before.
Phone has come with the following firmware:
PDA: N9005XXUBMI7
Phone: N9005XXUBMI6
CSC: N9005VFGBMI1
I've done loads of reading on the subject, and appears that I can use Root de la Vega universal 0.5 without tripping knox with the above firmware.
Could someone please confirm what I believe that it's possible to root the above firmware without tripping root?
Assuming that it is possible, Vodafone have also issued the following firmware update, which I've downloaded to pc from SamMobile, but not yet installed:
N9005XXUDMJ6_N9005VFGDMJ1_VOD
Is there a way I can then flash this update, say with Odin, without tripping root?
Really appreciate any assistance thanks
You can root mi7 without tripping knox using urdlv, then upgrade to your latest vodafone software using mobile odin pro, keeing your root and your knox 0x0
hit 'thanks' if i helped you

Hi Killberty,
Really appreciate your response thanks.
Once rooted with URDLV, would I then upgrade with Odin Pro as per the instructions here:

Many thanks again.

Yep, this is what I've done. I had a locked vodafone uk N9005 with MI7 initially. I urdlv to root. Then mop only to MJ7.
Note if you want to flash kitkat U'll need to use MOP 4.00 to flash rom and pc odin to flash bootloader only.
I'm still knox 0x0 & have root.

If you mean "without tripping Knox" - the answer is yes, it should work with URDLV.

Again - "without tripping Knox" - yes, but not with Odin but instead much easier with a program called Mobile Odin Pro - see the detailed thread on that here:

(in theory I do not like paid hacking programs but that one is an exception since it is from Chainfire and buying it is a way to encourage him to keep doing great hacks for the community).
Many thanks for your reply dsm52!!
I'm now rooted using URDLV, ready for the next process.
Is the following file classed as MJ6 or MJ1, as it appears Vodafone UK haven't released MJ7?!
N9005XXUDMJ6_N9005VFGDMJ1_VOD
The reason I ask, is because the following thread states "UNSUCCESSFUL ROOT :MJ6 and later":
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522729
In addition, do you mind me asking which version of KK you've used, as Vodafone UK haven't released this yet?
I need to retain knox 0x0
Many thanks again

It sounds like you want to stay with official Vodafone rom versions.
I didn't see any need to, so I flashed MJ7 BTU (UK) using MOP as the next step, which worked perfectly.
I flashed mk2 btu wheb that came out in the same way.
Fir kitkat, like most others, i flashed the Polish XEO NA6 official rom. Like I said kitkat flash is a little more tricky due to the extra bootloader flashing step. Personally, kitkat release isn't quite ready for prime time so samsung haven't rolled it out in more regions. There a few little quirks about it, e.g. genuine s view cover not working for all. I'd suggest waiting for the official BTU release before flashing by which time they may have ironed out the little bugs.
Good luck!

They do come sim locked. However, getting an unlock code isn't difficult. Worth calling customer services in your 1st 7 days & saying u need to use the phone abroad. Worked for me.

Actually I was unlocked within a few mins of making the call - unlock code got texted to me. And it was free - most likely because I was within my first 7 days of a new contract.
If it's not a new contract phone, then some others have reported chainfire's region lock away to work:

I understand and i would have done it if it didnt mean loosing warranty.
I guess i feel stupid to .. well ... purposely loose warranty like that.
If there was a secure method i would have rooted already.
I rooted my note 1 no problem , i rooted my note 2 and lost warranty ... no problem
I just didnt want to loose warranty but if i need to run an app and it needs root then yeah . i guess i will.
This just makes me angry with Samsung . They will loose a faithful follower.
Theyre screwing with my ability to use my phone how i want to .
This is my last Samsung.

if your Bootloader version <= MJ3 then you can root without tripping Knox by using URDLV.
The above info are PDA, Baseband and CSC version, not Bootloader version.
You can check your Bootloader version by using my app: Phone INFO ★Samsung★
Download link in my signature.

Samsung does repair it when you have a bricked phone and its owing to custom rom or root. I can't find a English page, but here in dutch: http://tweakers.net/nieuws/90256/sa...foons-standaard-onder-garantie-repareren.html

[Q] Install new Firmware (Same Android version Kitkat)

[Please help me to move it to the correct Forum, Thanks!]
Hi.
I have this:
Model: NOTE 3 SM-N900W8
Android: 4.4.2
Base: N900W8UBUCNA2
KNOX: 0x0
And I want to update to this:
Model: NOTE 3 SM-N900W8
Android: 4.4.2
Base: N900W8UBUCNC1
KNOX: 0x0
I already downloaded the Firmware from SamMobile:
Model: SM-N900W8
Model name: GALAXY Note 3
Country: Mexico (Telcel)
Version: Android 4.4.2
Changelist: 922105
Build date: Wed, 05 Mar 2014 06:14:01 +0000
Product Code: TCE
PDA: N900W8UBUCNC1
CSC: N900W8TCECNC3
MODEM: N900W8UBUCNC3
And the only thing i need is to know how to Install this Firmware. I have some bugs with my actual Firmware:
1. The adjustment of brightness (i just can set in automatic or a specific brightness, but can't adjust the automatic level, more or less brightness).
2. Limit of data usage, I can't set a limit, is stuck in 100 GB WTF!
Will I lose "Root"?
And that's all folks!

No if you flash the stock rom with Mobile Odin (Pro) and you will keep root. Enable inject: Everroot, superUser and Mobile Odin and flash the firmware (need to flash custom recovery though). Yes if you flash with PC Odin, then flash recovery and reroot afterwards
Thanks!

You can only flash .zip files with TWRP or CWM, tar/md5 files have to be flashed with (Mobile) Odin. I would strongly recommend using Mobile Odin, its a valuable app for Samsung phones that will benefit you for a long time. There are multiple tutorials on YouTube for how to use Odin and Mobile Odin.

Thats right oeps (thought you had a N900), for the N900W8 follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522858. This will not trip KNOX unless you flash a custom recovery later. So it doesn`t matter how you root, if you flash a custom recovery your warranty is gone anyway.

[Q] will changing csc trip knox?

Hello everyone
I wonder if anyone can give me a concise answer...
I have bought a brand new SM-G900F of e*bay.
It turned out to be a HongKong CSC of TGY.
Normally I wouldn't mind that but after two weeks it became somewhat sluggish so I decided to remove/disable some of the apps running in the background.
I have no root access and the knox is still 0x0 so I couldn't mess with the system apps anyway.
But, for some strange reason my phone's status became CUSTOM???
I've checked the knox and its still 0x0 but I cannot check for updates anymore
So I wondered if I could change my CSC to a UK one without root access and without tripping knox?
If not, is my only option factory reset? Will it bring OFFICIAL status to my phone?
Thanks in advance.
T
Nope bro, you will be safe as long as you don't root your device.
sent from galaxy s5 using tapatalk pro
Ok, thank you
Can I then change the CSC without root?
If yes, then what is the easiest way of doing so?
I did try googling the subject but all the results correspond to Note3, etc...
Allright, ignore my previous post,
I've found the app called PhoneInfo that does it all for me...
Thanks again
My phone was unlocked Germany T-Mobile and and i wanted to remove carrier apps so i flashed an unbranded stock image from sammobile.com with Odin.
It seams that it didn't trip knox flag, it's still 0x0 and device status "official".
I didn't wanted to change CSC because it factory resets the phone and my firmware was not the latest anyways.
My status changes to Custom, when I enable Art, instead of Dalvik.

Alright. It's been a few hours since I've asked the question.
The phoneinfo app is here
Sent from my SM-G900F using XDA Free mobile app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vnd
But it will not change CSC without root I think.(I tried but it complained about lack of SU something).
So instead I just factory reset my phone and had gotten back to official status.
I really didn't want to play with Odin.
I'm hoping to keep Knox 0x0 as long as possible.
Sorry for the confusion, if any...

there is an usefull thread for your concern, you can find it here
they state clearly that, change csc could "factory reset" your phone
if you cannot change csc through s5 secret code, you can use csc changer from play store
good luck

But CSC Changer requires root, and getting root trips Knox, as far as I'm aware.
I'm also looking for a way to change CSC without tripping Knox, as I want to move from a carrier branded device to unbranded (BTU). I think that I can just flash a BTU ROM, but then it won't get updates as the CSCs won't match.

There are 2 ways:
1. Use secret code from my previous post, you might overlook that part
2. Use Odin to flash your desired CSC
You don't have to root your device to change CSC

I don't think the code works on the GS5 (at least not on my branded version).
I'll look in to flashing a CSC via Odin -- I haven't seen how to do that yet, or if it affects Knox. Flashing another ROM with a different CSC should work, I think, but I don't think that changes the CSC, so there won't be any automatic ROM updates.

I'm stuck in this predicament. I have a tmobile galaxy s5 and was just going to flash a G900F firmware with the tmobile(G900T) modem but found out after I brought the phone that the phone is locked to the tmobile variant firmware. That sucks. And there is no break out of the modem, CSC, and phone yet so no go.

I didn't unroot before I flashed this. However, you will lose root. The new boot loader has the Knox flag, which means if you root this firmware, the Knox flag will likely be set and that may void your warranty. I'm just using mine without root at the moment.
Steps I did was to do a factory reset in stock recovery, then used Odin 3.0.9 to flash the new firmware. Google search for a guide to using Odin. As I did a factory reset, had to install all my apps, etc. again. So, back up anything you want to keep before you start.

I've been using it for a few days now without any issue. Feels a bit snappier than 4.2.2 and battery seems to last a bit longer. However, not a huge upgrade. If you're happy with 4.2.2 or need a rooted tablet, then I wouldn't bother to upgrade. For myself, I always like to try out the latest, that's why I upgraded.

It's generally the default language (which you can change of course) and possibly some pre-installed apps in different country's firmwares. There can be other differences too. I don't think a 4.4.2 firmware for the UK is available for the N5120 yet. There is this German one and some Singapore ones that have just been released too. Other countries will follow.
