OK after trying a couple of ROMs and failing miserably and having to reload the stock Firmeware a couple of time i am getting tired of this. Even what Rom makers say it is W8 compatible i get screwed... It's not my first phone, was on a S3 before and did plenty of modding and Roms , but this S5 W8 is starting to give me headaches... Maybe it's me, maybe i'm stupid all of a sudden...
So Canadian owners of the S5 W8 what Roms are you using successful ? And how did you do it.
I know it was discussed before and the consensus was that a separate W8 Canadian section was not needed due to it's compatibility with the F version, but i think it is, maybe it's just me....
W8 Telus here. XtraSoLite for the last two weeks without any problem. Stock kernel. Blaze kernel didn't work for me so I gave up for now.

What Kernel did you use ? This one StockXXU1ANE2Kernel from the link in the Rom thread ?
I'm using alliance with blaze kernel and have had no problem flashing any thing else. What I did was flash super su via Odin to get root, then I installed mobile Odin and flashed latest twrp recovery. I backed up stock Rom then through Rom customizer I flashed alliance. Good luck.

Before you flash a ROM you should make a backup through recovery. In the case that the flash fails this will enable you to recover instead of ODIN restore

I heard Omega is good ????
Is anyone else getting a persistent voicemail notification? I'm on the Rogers variant and some Googling has indicated that people using the AT&T/Sprint versions had the same issue. I'm on the latest update but this is still happening.

I know this is old but I happen to be playing with an s5 from bell right now. I'm on ressurection remix nougat and lineage os 14.1 nougat works as well. Flash cf root with Odin. Flash a custom recovery, I use TWRP. Go to the ressurection site and get the ROM, for you it will be klte. Reboot into recovery, wipe the phone, install ressurection remix. You also want the magisk 12.0 zip and manager APK. That's pretty much it. Custom rooted ROM running a lineage kernel. If you aren't familiar with lineage it's where the cyangoen team went. MIUI ROM works too but it's a slow download for not much reward. I've loaded lots of others but they require tweaks and fixes for things and I don't want you to need more help after the fact. Stick with one of the two I listed for the s5 and you will be ok. Also remember KLTE ROM. And as for how I'm on two roms that's a whole other story and probably not something you need to do.

I'm doing the same with my SM-900W8, but I'm finding the Camera app (in RR keeps crashing). I have no issues when I use the stock rom. The camera is the only problem I'm finding. It freezes (sometimes after the first couple photos) and then reboots. Are you having this issue? Likely not. Don't know if I'm missing something.

I've been searching for the stock kernal for at&t users for s bit now, can't find it I'm trying to fix the annoying "updating camera firmware, please wait..." message. Unless there's a better way, I'll just assume you have to flash the sock kernal to update it. But if you flash the sock Kernal, wouldn't the phone fail on boot?

No, I'm running Wanamlite v1.0.
I just reinstalled the stock AT&T rom to allow the camera to update, but when I ran the camera, no update appeared. So I figured it was all set. After re-rooting, I re-installed Wanamlite and KT kernal, open up the camera, and sure enough the message re-appears. I didn't perform any wipes. But it looks like I'll have to because all the AT&T bloatware was re-installed again.

Your mistake was reinstalling Wanamlite again. Here's how you install non AT&T ROMs
1. Root your phone. I used the one click TWRP and Loki method.
2. Factory Reset and install custom ROM.
3. Install AT&T kernel. Let it boot up. Open Camera.
4. Reboot to recovery. Install custom kernel. Wipe cache and Dalvik. Fix Permissions.
5. Reboot. All done.

okay, assuming you're using the AT&T variant, I did this:
I got the looping "installing camera firmware" and tried faux an ktoonsez with no luck
I flashed this tmobile stock kernel and the camera firmware updated successfully by going into the camera app.
I then just flashed faux kernel back and everything worked great.

I use shabbypenguin's auto loki CWM recovery, but you'll have to definitely flash the loki patch after the tmo kernel to make this work.

Ok, so previously with my S4, if we flashed a I9505 ROM onto a I337or I337M S4, all we had to do was flash our device models custom or stock kernel and the wifi and everything that was borked was then fixed. This doesn't seem to be the case here.
And now I can't figure out for the life of me how to get back wifi after flashing a 9005 ROM on my N900!
I'm sure it's something super simple, and I;ve searched for the solution, but clearly I'm looking in the wrong place.
Any assistance would be met with a "Thanks" and some karma points

Ok well that blows out what I thought you'd done it.
Have you tried wiping after flashing the correct ROM? The "incorrect ROM" didn't include any modern files didn't (not that I'm sure CWM will flash them on this phone however)
Strange question, but is your camera still working? Recording etc... also, in device settings, does it list the correct IMEI number?

Yup, camera works with stock kernel that the rom came with, imei is fine.
Just can't figure out which files to flash to get wifi and other radios working

As title, looking for the 4.3 touchwiz based rom's that work with the old bootloader.
Almost all custom roms you can flash from recovery won't update your bootloader. I recommend omega.
Read OP of any rom and you will sure notice that the bootloader will remain untouched after flashing.

There will be no issues like lack of sound, wifi etc?
Been using GE roms since the new bootloader was introduced but I have read posts from users having problems flashing new firmware with old bootloader, or is that just for the official roms?
As long as you have the latest modem (MJ5) there won't be any issues.

Thanks, might give that a try as Omega just started rebooting randomly..
Will try another kernel, if that doesn't fix it then ill try echoe.
All custom roms since 4.3 gave me random reboots once every couple of days.
I'm currently running omega v19 and the uptime is 48h.
Well I got Omega stable with KT kernel, but found the lag a bit annoying so tried echoe rom anyway.
Sadly the lag is much the same, I guess it's a feature of touchwiz and nothing can be done about it.
Why havent Samsung fixed this? it's almost the same as the original roms that phone shipped with.
I seem to be unable to successfully flash ROMs on my phone...
I am not sure what's going on.
Yes, I am rooted. Yes, I am flashing ROMs made for my phone, and flashing the appropriate firmware to match the ROM. Yes, I perform a clean flash by wiping everything first.
I have tried wiping cache/dalvik after flashing, still no luck. I have tried not flashing gapps, still nothing...
No matter what I do, it never boots. I sit at the Verizon screen for hours on end.
Any ideas?

Never heard of this. You might have flashed the wrong thing. We don't flash gapps with our Roms. Start over by using Odin to flash a full stock tar of NGC and root again.

If you're on NK2 then most of the Roms I read you flashed won't work on that build. After you flash a ROM built for OC4, like FreedomROM for example, you need to Odin over the OC4 firmware (which includes modem and kernel) to the device otherwise Roms won't start. Same thing goes for everyone other ROM with the firmware except it has to be for the respective build.

Yeah, I've got that all figured out now. Never really had to do that with any other phones I've had, it was always just flash and go, never really messing with different firmware and whatnot. I have since tested 4 different ROMs and they have all flashed with success..
Thanks

I have the g900t (T-Mobile) using TWRP. Open gapps 6.0 (where you can choose your own). And I download off the XDA pages with my phone.
I should also note that only touchwiz Roms seem to work. Any cm ROM always gets stuck at bootloop, I can sometimes getting it to optimizing apps by switching kernel, but then it reboots over and over without starting.

Make sure you've performed a full wipe before flashing it and if you're planning on using Google apps then make sure to flash them before booting into CM13 or else you'll get stuck with lots of FCs.

Is your bootloader unlocked? Because as far as I know, there are variants of the Galaxy S5 which have their bootloaders unlocked, making them impossible to downgrade or else making their device bootloop.
As for the steps, you only have to download the KitKat firmware (I recommend ANE2 - easiest to root) from sammobile.com then flash it via Odin.
Make sure you have Samsung Mobile Drivers installed if you are working on a Windows environment. Afterwards, root your Galaxy S5 by downloading towelroot from towelroot.com.
Once done, download SuperSU on Play Store. Flash custom recovery using Rashr. Make sure Reactivation Lock is disabled before flashing anything custom or else it will cause problems.
When you have custom recovery successfully installed, try flashing CyanogenMod again.

Report back if everything goes fine. TouchWiz Lollipop caused me a lot of problems in modding mainly because it's harder to mod it unlike KitKat which is pretty straight forward.
By reverting to KitKat, I was able to use XtreStoLite which stopped working on me for some time. Now I'm on Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 (CyanogenMod 13 unofficial by @albinoman887) and I'm satisfied than ever.
