I've been searching for the stock kernal for at&t users for s bit now, can't find it I'm trying to fix the annoying "updating camera firmware, please wait..." message. Unless there's a better way, I'll just assume you have to flash the sock kernal to update it. But if you flash the sock Kernal, wouldn't the phone fail on boot?

No, I'm running Wanamlite v1.0.
I just reinstalled the stock AT&T rom to allow the camera to update, but when I ran the camera, no update appeared. So I figured it was all set. After re-rooting, I re-installed Wanamlite and KT kernal, open up the camera, and sure enough the message re-appears. I didn't perform any wipes. But it looks like I'll have to because all the AT&T bloatware was re-installed again.

Your mistake was reinstalling Wanamlite again. Here's how you install non AT&T ROMs
1. Root your phone. I used the one click TWRP and Loki method.
2. Factory Reset and install custom ROM.
3. Install AT&T kernel. Let it boot up. Open Camera.
4. Reboot to recovery. Install custom kernel. Wipe cache and Dalvik. Fix Permissions.
5. Reboot. All done.

Exactly, its nice he can recommend installing a stock kernel, but they are not to be found. I asked in another thread and didn't get an answer. I somehow got it to work just wiping and installing Omega 5.0 Then to get wifi to work I installed ktoonez kernel.

okay, assuming you're using the AT&T variant, I did this:
I got the looping "installing camera firmware" and tried faux an ktoonsez with no luck
I flashed this tmobile stock kernel and the camera firmware updated successfully by going into the camera app.
I then just flashed faux kernel back and everything worked great.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2271976
I use shabbypenguin's auto loki CWM recovery, but you'll have to definitely flash the loki patch after the tmo kernel to make this work.

So, my stock nandroid backup has failed me. I am on Slimbean right now and I like it, but I would like to flash back to stock until all the kinks are worked out. How can I get back to stock touchwiz? I'm not exactly sure what a deodexed ROM is, but it is my understanding that Wallet does not work on one so I would like to be on a ROM that allows wallet.

You could either use Odin to flash the stock rom and be back at square 1, unrooted. Or you could flash crawrj's odexed rooted rom, and Google wallet works on that. Just read up on disabling SEAndroid so you don't get the nag.

That is just what I was reading now. I'm probably going to flash that. I do understand it doesn't come with a kernal, so if I'm on Slimbean can I just wipe and flash the odexed rom over that kernal? If not, how do I get the stock kernal back to flash over?

Good point. Flash Shabbys custom kernel, it's linked in that same thread (crawjr's). So wipe, flash odexed rooted rom, flash kernel. You will need to freeze that SEAndroid app though, don't forget about that.

I used titanium backup to freeze it. You need the pro version to do that though
EDIT: Someone just informed me that the app is in the system/app directory, and is called KNOXAgent.apk. So I supposed you could try deleting/renaming that to disable it without using Titanium backup.

And yes, flash the rom and then kernel in the same recovery session. You currently have an aosp kernel, so I'd doubt it boots if you tried to boot before flashing the kernel.

Anyone else have the issue of it just continuously trying to boot? I'm using the CWM auto-loki that's in the development section.
Reflashed it three more times. Now it freezes @ Samsung battery screen when charging, or if I wait long enough it'll unfreeze. Still loops at Slim Bean startup, what sucks though is that for one thing it mounts as an MTP device so it seems like it's on but just not initializing, another thing is that the original flash I was able to get to the slim bean battery charging screen (but obviously still couldn't turn it on)
Thinking it might be a kernel issue, since I installed ktoonsez's AOSP kernel when I installed it. Any recommendations of a kernel to use? I'm using the CWM recovery that has auto loki so, I could probably use ones made for 9500,9505, etc.
(Pasted this from the Slim Bean thread, haven't gotten an answer in like 5 hours and it's a little urgent xD. I'm on the AT&T S4 of course, any other information I'll be glad to provide. Hopefully this is just a simple fix)
I bet is related to the kernel. I have been using Slim Bean flawlessly, with none of the issues you mention. Using TWRP to flash and recover.

Isn't ktoonsez kernel for a Touchwiz based ROM?
Slim Bean is AOSP, therefore i'm not sure they jive correctly, which would clearly explain the OP's problem.
EDIT: Didn't realize he updated an AOSP based Kernel. In anycase OP, I would still attempt using the stock kernel to see if you problems get fixed.

I know someone else clarified this already, but when I downloaded Slim it actually wasn't Loki patched for whatever reason, and I couldn't boot without reinstalling stock. I did download the one in the right thread, it just didn't have a boot.lok in it for whatever reason. Anyways, I'm gonna try reflashing and wiping /system another time, wish me luck. I don't have the original kernel backed up though because I'm an idiot, so does anyone have a link to that? If not I could probably scour it out somewhere, but just wondering for convenience's sake.

In advanced restore boot is the kernel.
Download the ROM and addons again, you shouldnt have any issues... If you are currently on stock, do a comprehensive wipe, a manual format of system and data

Bott with loki doki which keeps the original kernel.
Alright, I got the update firmware message to go away by just flashing the newest v3.1 Omega ROM and the KT kernel.
Im having the same issue " updating camera firmware. Please wait"
I have tried everything from flash stock with oden and re-rooting the phone and installing CWM with loki and i even flashed loki doki to see if that would help and if i tried to run OMEGA 3.1 without KT kernel all i get is "System software not authorized by ATT has been found on your phone"
Everything in OMEGA seems to be working but as soon as i open the camera app i continue to get "Updating camera firmware... please wait". Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Also, after flashing a custom ROM and getting stuck in the bootlogo, sometimes you need to flash the loki-fix (search for it) to fix this. Then the ROM works.
If ever in an inescapable bootloop and there's no custom recovery, then you'll need to download your stock firmware and stock kernel and use Odin to flash the firmware first (in download mode), then the kernel second (also in download mode, after a reboot), and then once you're up and running you can use Motochopper to root the phone and then another tool to flash recovery (e.g. Canadiani337m_3way_tool).
Happened again

Hey again! After I reflashed the Kernel Fix for my model. It seemed to be good, however it started doing it again! and it happens with every rom. Im sure I have the right kernel fix...
I have a similar issue, with any custom rom I can't load into the phone the first time, set up my phone etc. But if I reboot I'm stuck at the samsung logo. I've tried this most recently with cyangenmod 10.2, ikop, and kangabean and had the same issue. This is my first android phone and my first time trying this so I wasn't sure if I was doing everything correctly. When I followed the instructions for CM, it didn't say that I needed to reflash the kernal. Is there a specific kernal or can I use the stock? Also should I flash the kernal after I've installed rom and gapps?
I suppose if that doesn't work that I'll try the loki-fix.
I seem to be unable to successfully flash ROMs on my phone...
I am not sure what's going on.
Yes, I am rooted. Yes, I am flashing ROMs made for my phone, and flashing the appropriate firmware to match the ROM. Yes, I perform a clean flash by wiping everything first.
I have tried wiping cache/dalvik after flashing, still no luck. I have tried not flashing gapps, still nothing...
No matter what I do, it never boots. I sit at the Verizon screen for hours on end.
Any ideas?

Never heard of this. You might have flashed the wrong thing. We don't flash gapps with our Roms. Start over by using Odin to flash a full stock tar of NGC and root again.

If you're on NK2 then most of the Roms I read you flashed won't work on that build. After you flash a ROM built for OC4, like FreedomROM for example, you need to Odin over the OC4 firmware (which includes modem and kernel) to the device otherwise Roms won't start. Same thing goes for everyone other ROM with the firmware except it has to be for the respective build.

Yeah, I've got that all figured out now. Never really had to do that with any other phones I've had, it was always just flash and go, never really messing with different firmware and whatnot. I have since tested 4 different ROMs and they have all flashed with success..
Thanks
