Smartwatch recomendations - Other SmartWatches

I've been looking for a smartwatch for a few weeks now and was interested in buying one near the $100 price point. Currently I was thinking between the smartq z watch, the u8, or u8 pro. What would you guys recommend I get? Or would you recommend a different alternative? I don't want to spend too much one on since I'm not even sure that a smartwatch is the right thing for me, just want to experiment. Thanks

what do you want from a smartwatch?
-standalone/companion?
-speakerphone/mic?
-notifications?
-'works-out-of-the-box' / customizable?
-apps?
if i had to pick between those 3, Smartq Z, no doubt, simply because the U8 is worthless (imho anyway) and the U8 pro is just another unknown brand watch, the link in the topic here on XDA doesn't even work anymore

I'm thinking I would just need a companion. I mean I don't really see the point of having a standalone if it acts like a cheap phone but cost as much as a phone, but maybe someone could share why it would be better to have a standalone watch?
Speakerphone and mic would be nice so I can use voice commands and maybe listen to music and stuff like that, but I could probably live without them.
I wouldn't mind if it doesn't work out of the box as I like to customize my gadgets and flash new roms, etc.
What do you mean by apps? As in being able to install the playstore?
So basically I would want a watch that would
-of course have basic watch functions(time, alarm, stopwatch, etc)
-tell me what notifications I receive (calls, text, gmail, etc)
-allow be to view my calendar
-have pedometer/fitness capability
-possibly allow me to reply to notifications, maybe even with just a short preset text message
-have decent battery (if nothing more at least be able to last the full day)
-be able to see screen outside
-etc
By the way, I think that the smartqz has most of these capabilities, right? With the exception of a mic? Does it allow you to dismiss notification/reject a call, and send preset texts?
Please let me know if you have any other suggestions on what a smartwatch should do (what you like to see) and if you have any other recommendations.
Thanks.

don't know how visible the screen of the smartq z is outside
U8 is unusable at that as well
Maybe you want to spenx a little moe for a sony sw2, or wait for the smartq z2/p2, I think that one has a transflective display as well

Do you currently own a smartwatch? Which one?

I think I'm going to wait until the z2/p1 is released and then make my decision.

This year there's a few smartwatch being released:
Z2/P1
Apple's watch
Gear Solo with sim card
Moto 360
LG G watch
InWatch Z
Loads of Chinese Shenzhen ones
Probably new ones from elsewhere too.

At max light zwatch is full useful outside With full sun.
Otherwise, for me the best of all is the Sony Sw2

So you have both the zwatch and sw2 and you prefer the sw2 over the zwatch? What makes the sw2 better, in your opinion? What version of the sw2 do you have?

Hey all, Rodney Just here (Director of Sales and Marketing for inWatch Z). I have just sent an email to JarlSX, and we will be getting a Z to em VERY SOON in the meantime, I am happy to speak to what Z does and does not do! I am the one who has made ALL of the Videos you see with Z on the Indiegogo Campaign (http://bit.ly/inWatch), so I have had a lot of Hands on with the Phone/Watch. Let me know any questions you might have, OR if there is anything you would like to see Z do, and I am happy to show it on the campaign. Talk soon, cheers. -R

haven't seen your email yet, Rodney
@simple1i i'm willing to help with development/ideas, but with past experience (and still ongoing) with crowdfunding projects like the Kreyos Meteor and the HOT Watch, i'm not willing to bet 250$ on yet another watch

I think there are only one version of the Sony Smartwatch 2 (SW2) just different wrist band.
There are many many thing that make the SW2 better.
- Always ON
With same usage I can use the ZWatch maybe 18H hours before end of batt, each time you light up it decrease batt life quickly. SW2 can works 3 days with 18 at 20H by day, otherwise on ligh use it works 4 at 5 days.
SW2 perfect phone compagnion, many app sync phone data. Perfect notification mail, sms, hangout, skype...... perfect control of phone, beautiful notification, dialing, answer call.....
Made your own watchface in less 1min, and very amazing watchface : (I change watchface almost every day)

My Bad, I was emailing Idris, who had suggested Sam and you had spoken before. I will pm you now, and exchange emails -R

@dersie Thank you for that and thanks for the pics.

Ok, so I was going to wait for the z2 or moto 360 but now I think I'm just going to go ahead and a "cheap" smartwatch to see if it fits my life. I've heard great things about the smartq z watch. Should I just go for this one or the u8, u8 pro, sony smartwatch, or what do other people recommend. I'd like to keep the cost to under $150 just to see if I even need a smartwatch.

well, i wouldn't pick the U8. or the U8 pro for that matter. simply because the lack of support/development (or any of those cheap things, you get what you pay for)
i'm pretty happy with my Smartwatch 2, though i might be getting a G Watch or Moto 360 (depends on the price)
the smartq z might be a good choice as well, but you might want to wait a bit longer for the z2/p1 (anyone know when it will finally be available?)

Yeah, I was going to wait for the z2/p1 to show up but it keeps getting pushed back. It isn't even listed anymore on the iprotablet site anymore... Like JarlSX said, if anyone has any news on this watch please post it here.

Samsung Galaxy Gear is awesome, being able to root, use the Play Store, set your own launcher and all is great. After all, it's based on Jelly Bean (4.1.2 - I believe), but it's limited in many ways compared to the alternatives, and limited to certain devices... The Galaxy Gear is priced at $299.
The Sony SmartWatch 2 is limited in functionality, as far as we know, however I won't knock it as not too many people stateside have gotten their hands on one. That's at a $199 price point.
The Omate TrueSmart, (a KickStarter Funded Project that's available for Pre-Order w/ Dec. Shipping) on is a lot like the Galaxy Gear but has ruggedized properties, runs Android 4.2.2, has capability of running the Play Store (see below, as Lokifish Mars explains), water resistant, has a microphone, camera, speaker, is rootable, Bluetooth, microSD card support, and can even be used as a standalone phone, has complete stock Android interface, with add-ons for $299 w/ the higher RAM option.
To me its a no-brainer, Omate TrueSmart, right???
I own a prehistoric Sony Smartwatch, like the idea of smart watches, but what's with all the hype over the Gear? Why not go with the TrueSmart??? The Pebble seems stupid to me, only because for the price, it doesn't do THAT much for $199 and I'd rather spend $100 more on something more functional, even though I'll loose out on the super e-Ink low energy battery life technology. If money grows on trees in your family, buy them all if that's what makes you happy, but I'm just trying to be practical...
Yes, Google will probably release a smartwatch pretty soon, with Google Now/Search, but I doubt it'll be fully Android featured like the TrueSmart...
And I'm sure Apple will release an iWatch that has a clockface, pause/play button, and a few other features, (Siri with luck) for $129, and call it the First (using a stupid word like...) Innovative or Intellectual smartphone companion watch, and Samsung will eat them alive in court while Sony, Pebble, and Omate watch and eat popcorn while Samsung fights.
Excuse the large images, xda needs an image resizer, and I really don't feel like resizing them myself and reuploading... too much work, bleh...

Yes, it is a no-brainer.
And where did you find that the gear could be rooted? Is a root available already?
That URL shows the top smartwatches, sweet! Omate TrueSmart beats them all for the most part. Also, the Gear can be rooted, xda thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2480429

Thank you, updated the website to show that. But yes, the TrueSmart ousts pretty much all of them, in nearly every category. It's ridiculous.
They still haven't figured out how to get the internet working on the gear as far as I know. Since it doesn't have wifi they have to figure out how to get it through bluetooth.
Either way, here's my opinion.
Get the Omate if you want something that can do more than be an accessory to your phone. Or if you want an accessory that has the most rooting and messing around with potential. It blows the others out of the water in terms of specs.
Get the Gear if you just strictly want an accessory, and maybe want to run specific apps on it. If you really want to get into rooting and stuff you'll probably want it to have the sensors and radios it doesn't have. I find that with my Motoactv...I want it to have a cellular antenna so it has internet all the time, no wifi or bluetooth messing around. Yeah, it's still totally rad, but it could be BETTER. Enter the Omate.
Get the Sony if you want strictly an accessory. Stay away even if you have the slightest inclination to mess around with it cause you can't. It's running on a proprietary OS. If however it does everything you want, I'd get it over the gear to save some money and get a slimmer device.
It feels like Omate vs. Sony Smartwatch/Gear is like Android vs. iOS respectively, why limit yourself, especially when you're paying around the same price... If the device is so limited, why price it with the big boys?

Sadly this is not correct. Here's what we do know.
TrueSmart will initially ship with it's own app store.
No version of Android 4.3.1 and lower will ever officially support Google Services (Play Store, Gmail app and so on) on smartwatches like the TrueSmart. This now leaves only versions of Android that haven't even been announced yet and tells folks that if they are running 4.3.1 or lower then they will not have official Google Services.
A PC based app, root or custom recovery is being looked at to allow non-developer editions running 4.3.1 or lower the ability to push unofficial Google Services to the TrueSmart.
Here's what we don't know
Will Android 4.4 or higher support smartwatches like the TrueSmart.
Will the TrueSmart receive certification for Android 4.4 or higher to include official Google Services.
Why does my cat like eating plastic.
*All that aside I still think the TrueSmart is a more capable device out of the box. The specs also allow for a more long term lifespan with regards to Android versions and apps updates.
@Lokifish Marz That is true, I saw a Play demo, and what I read about the Play store was unofficial, and Loki - it's been a while, since the Photon days haha. (OP updated).

It has been a while. Five different devices later and I ended up back on the Photon.
With repos dropping off for Ubuntop I figured it was time to move on and will be on two different smartwatches for the foreseeable future. The TS will be my main device though.

Unfortunately, the comparison is based on a tech spec which is useless. You need a hands'on comparison from someone who has been using these watches for awhile.
the Omate TrueSmart isn't a no-brainer for everyone, it all depends on what you want from your (smart)watch
i have the smartwatch 2 now, but i wouldn't even call it a smartwatch, it's just a second display, the real magic happens on your phone and it can't do much without it
but that's fine with me, all i wanted from a smartwatch, when i first found out they existed, is:
1) it can act as a watch (duh )
2) not be huge, preferably less then 10mm thick
3) display notifications coming from my phone (facebook/twitter/whatsapp/etc)
4) have a battery life of at least 3-4 days
5) be waterproof
that really hasn't changed, i don't need a watch to replace my smartphone
i'm not going to read email/news/etc or surf the wen on my watch, my Butterfly S is perfect for that, 5 inch 1080p screen, not even the Neptune Pine comes close
the sw2 does most of those things right, but it doesn't seem like Sony is too interested in making it a success, releasing it without options shown in presentations and even on the box it comes in
the latest update has solved some issues and some watch faces were added, but overall i'm not impressed
and a really big one: the fact it fell apart within 2 months
and it's happening quite a lot, plenty of posts on xda and sony mobile forum, some even reported it falling apart after 3 days!
that's why i think for me the HOT Watch is a 'no-brainer', it does all those 5 things, with as added bonus, the private call function. i'm really looking forward trying that out
maybe in couple of years, smartwatches will replaces smartphones, but that will need flexible displays and much better batteries
I can only speak from an experience of reading about Gear and SW2, and having TS for a few days
Gear and SW2 will have all the notification working as expected tethered to your phone, and rooting Gear will give you a true android experience, although battery life is not that good. Plus, try to go outside with Gear shoveling snow (we just got our first storm in NJ), and getting it wet - forget 'bout it. Proprietary charger is not ideal either. Sony SW2 sounds like having a lot of build quality issues; it's alarming when I read posts on xda about screen coming off, etc. It should work fine with notifications (I talked to Augmented SW Pro developer - it's fully supported), you get some level of waterproof protection, regular micro-usb charging, and you can run some apps on it, but obviously it's not a true Android experience. I also like an idea of time always being displayed on SW2.
True Smart, hard to form an impression yet since I just installed Loki's ROM and can only use it as a mini android wifi device on my wrist. I don't have GSM sim card, on Verizon with CDMA, and personally think it makes no sense to drain your battery with 3G or even wi-fi use. It is a stand alone mini android watch so you can run different apps, browse the web, check emails, type on it, etc. But since I have a developers edition sent to me for review purpose, the software is not currently available. I mean, there is no way for me to have bt connection to my Note 2 to push notifications - the #1 purpose of any smart watch as a remote display of your out-of-sight phone. At the current moment, I can't properly review it until the final release of firmware and companion phone app is available. In general, the camera is really useful as POV action video cam, but awkward to take pictures. Bracelet is made out of a very cheap rubber material. The watch is a bit bulky, but it feels VERY solid inside of metal casing. Display is responsive, and the issues I'm seeing (like sometime back swipe from within apps doesn't respond as Back android key) probably due to firmware issues. Once a final firmware/software is released - this smartwatch going to SHINE!!! But until then, I will wait before writing my review. It's funny how a lot of people pre-ordered Dev edition in hope to receive it asap, but getting it earlier doesn't mean they can start enjoying it to full potential right away.
GG has 4.2.2 lol
Interesting to read these posts--in the light of current Non-News from Omate--I realise that @vectron and @lokifish have both got their hands on versions of the TrueSmart but, most of the rest of us are still waiting to form any sort of opinion.
Some folks talk about 'asking for refunds' based on some negative feedback, delivery date shenanigans, etc.. but I am still waiting, fairly patiently, to really find out what the Omate is all about.
P.S. I found @ClearD's website with comparisons of most current Smartwatches very interesting--thanks.
For me, its the Truesmart. I don't want a big phone and the 5" phones are so powerful now that the screen isn't capable of keeping up. For example, Injustice: Gods Among Us and other HD games can't be fully appreciated on a phone. Surfing the web is a pain.
So I've switched to using a tablet for games, surfing, watching movies etc. I will use the watch for simple things like picking up MMS, emails, phone calls etc while I'm out the house. If I'm at the gym or out for a run, I don't need to bring a phone, I'll just wear the watch.
If I'm travelling, I'll take my tablet and use the watch to create a WiFi hotspot.
This means I don't need amazing specs from the watch but the stand alone phone function and ability to create a WiFi hotspot are critical. I will upgrade my tablet instead of my phone, which is a much cheaper option - new tablets cost £200-£300, whereas new phones are £600ish.

I had a Sony smartwatch 2, it was a boring device and I don't know why. Today I have a Galaxy gear and I love it, now that we can enable notifications for every app, I really love it. I am considering buying a Qualcom Toq, does anyone have one and want to share your opinions?

HOT Watch smartwatch [UPDATE: VIDEO! JULY 31st 2014]

i think this watch deserves it's own topic (and no, i don't have shares or any ties with them )
original kickstarter project here
now that i have had the Sony Smartwatch 2 for a month or so, i'm glad i backed this project
yes, the SW2 has apps and a color screen, so?
it's not like many of the apps are useful anyway
no microphone, no speaker, no response from Sony on reported issues/wishes
and i really don't need a smartwatch to replace my phone, tasks like browsing, reading email, news, etc and playing games are perfect on the 5 inch screen of my Butterfly S, so i don't really need a big color screen
there are 5 things i want from a watch
-long battery life, 4-5 days minimum
-thin, about 8-9mm should be the max
-a lot of choice in watch faces, being able to design them myself would be the ultimate, all of them should show time+date, extra info like weather would be nice (like min/max temp for the day)
-handle calls
-show important mail/whatsapp/twitter/facebook notifications (from people i find important)
the HOT Watch does most of them, i especially like the way it handles calls
you can pre-order the watch since a couple of weeks

Features (copied from kickstarter):
-Private calls amplified by the palm of your hand

-Voice activated calling and other phone control using your phone’s native voice recognition such as iPhone SIRI
-Receive and reply to Messages (SMS, Email, Facebook and Twitter)
-Music player remote control (for your phone’s native player)
-Multiple dial faces
-Automatic fast contacts sync
-Caller ID
-Audible and silent vibrating alarms and alerts
-Pedometer: Record running, walking, steps climbed, calories burned
-Fall detection with automatic text to emergency number (unless cancelled in 30 seconds)
-LED illumination
-Note capture: captures your handwriting on the watch face
-Tactile vibration feedback
-HOT Proximity Alerts: Never leave your phone behind and prevent theft
-Find your phone with remote beep
-Built-in LED Flashlight (ONLY in Curve)
-Water Resistant
-Multi-touch projected capacitive screen (Skim finger above glass to change screens)

I too have backed this Kickstarter project, I think this watch will be great for formal occasions. Nice looking sleek and thin unlike Omates true smart watch ,that I backed also, but will only use for outdoorsy stuff, kayaking ,swimming ,beach, etc.
TBO it does sound like you have a vested interest in the Hot watch. I agree , great looking watch but it does not have that much more on the competition except looks. I really doubt if there will as many Apps as there is available for the Pebble, only due to the popularity of Pebble compared to Hot,first to the starting line I guess

i don't care for apps, really. like i said, it doesn't need to replace my smartphone at all, i just want a watch with some additional functionality
the HOT Watch doesn't even run apps, does it? or very limited
i just hope there will be plenty watch faces to choose from or have the ability to design/add them myself
ps: would you mind removing the quoted part? don't need all those pics twice... thanks
A sdk is coming out. I was hoping more excitement and buzz for this watch..can't wait to get mine.

i don't get it either, maybe once it's available in stores that people will start noticing?
i also don't understand why people prefer those clunky things on their wrists
i think it's too early for those mini-smartphone-on-your-wrist things, they need to make them (a lot) smaller/thinner first, use flexible displays, way better batteries, that kind of stuff
in the meantime, watches like the HOT Watch are ideal
IMHO ofcourse
I was close to getting the Omate. But I can't imagine charging twice or three times a day. Plus the private is pretty cool.. We need tasker support out the box or early on.

Two more e-paper watches
Two more e-paper watches from China:
(1) Sonostar - http://www.sonostar.com/Smartwatch/Specificaion
(2) Tomoon - http://www.tomoon.cn/index (No English)
Dunno what processor these two watches use.
E-paper watches should be more battery frugal because power is only used when the screen is refreshed. However, e-paper screen refresh rate is low (< 15 fps) so don't expect fluid youtube video or game playing (if these are ever possible), and there is "ghost" problem during refresh. Also the older e-ink / e-paper devices don't have night light, but the latest models eg. Kindle Paperwhite and Kobo Glo have front light (e-paper is opaque and doesn't use back lighting).

If you are talking about Omate, the correct statement would be charging every 2-3 days, NOT 2-3 times a day. I think you mixed it up with Gear (which btw last more than 24hr on a single charge)
Regarding HOT Watch, I can tell you from experience of owning MetaWatch and Omate TS, as well as reading plenty about Pebble at the time of the release - when it comes to KS projects, their focus is to deliver hardware first with unfinished software/apps. After all the delays and final release of hardware, all users become beta testers of software, and often they rely on XDA and other developers to release custom ROMs and write their own software. I don't expect HOT to be any different, although would love to be proven wrong. Even big guys like Sammy and Sony can't get fully functionality software out of the door with hardware release. As I said, every company just wants to get to a final hardware production to start shipping the units. Then, software will follow up.
Two to three days sounds good but what kind of use are you doing? Screen on times ect.
I was hoping the hot will get the support level the pebble did as I like the ts a lot but not quite sold on it yet.
hoping Google will announce something this coming year.

Not as much use yet, with heavy use realistically it will probably be a day considering this is a real android "smartphone" on your wrist
Regarding Pebble, it only took them what, 8-9 months, million$ of investment, and being sold in Best Buy, Amazon, AT&T stores, etc.
I do agree with you, once Google will release something, it will be at a reasonable price (obviously subsidized) and will have a working native android software from get-go.
@slim_thumb that sonostar watch looks pretty decent actually, nice resolution as well
but you still can't order it, there's a video of over 6 months old on youtube where they show a mockup, because that's all they had at that point, maybe still is a mockup
then again, it really doesn't do a whole lot more than my SW2
that's why i want the HOT watch, the private handsfree function seems ideal to me
@vectron you're probably right about the software, but as long as the hardware is right, they can always fix the software
Sony did release a reasonable update recently, but they're not there yet and their support is a mess
very interested in whatever google will come up with, but again, i think a watch with flexible display and (very) good battery life (and hopefully private handsfree function like the HOT watch has) will be the ultrimate (maybe HOT Watch 2 )
until then, i think i'll be very happy with the HOT watch

@dang1 good idea, hope this watch will pick up some more attention once they present it on CES next week

GV08 Smartwatch for $33.00 USD

I know that the search for a smartwatch is prominent for most, and the GV08 is nothing "new" in tech terms. I found a seller on eBay pushing them out for $33.00 shipped.

This is a Galaxy Gear 2 clone, and i bought one (just to tie me over until I get the G Watch R for Christmas ). It's a nifty little device with pretty awesome features and an unbeatable price tag!

Now, I've done my research and wanted to answer some questions for potential buyers:
1. Does it run Android Wear?
No it doesn't. It uses an OS called Necleus RTOS (OS used by Pebble Smarwatches and the Omate TrueSmart Series watches from what I've read) that is more so a single app with multiple functions than an independent OS with interoperable core system processes, etc. (Pretty much the opposite of Android).
2. Can we port AW to it?
No, it only has 128MB of ram and a 360Mhz processor, which doesn't meet AW requirements
3. What does this have that the (insert AW watch name here) doesn't?
Well from my readings, despite RTOS being simple, it can function completely as it's own entity, unlike AW. This watch has a SIM card slot, microSD card slot, pedometer, music player, browser, etc. Etc. With the same "premium" build as gear watches. Though it doesn't have wear, it has a lot to offer, and it pairs seemlessly with Android for texts and phone calls and stuff.
4. Drawbacks?
Obviously, no Android Wear (dead horse officially beaten). Also, because RTOS is sort of like an app, I haven't seen any app offerings for watch faces and stuff, so there's very limited add ons outside of what is already present.
5. Did I miss anything?
Now because it's from China and I'm in the States, I'm looking at a 2+ week shipping time. But I ordered at like 1 in the morning central time Saturday and they shipped it by 3 A.M. CST. I'll be back in the future with a little review of the watch to help potential buyers. Hopefully it's still this cheap by then lol!

The time is synced with data and wifi, same as phones.
When there's no data/wifi or the watch is in Airplane mode then the accuracy is off by seconds. Over time the inaccuracies build up.
If you don't have data or don't bluetooth it you can always adjust the time manually.
Support
Is there any support for this watch what so ever?, cant find a website for it, or any downloads firmware updates ?

Been searching for over 8 months, for upgrades, how to remove shortcuts, how to reprogram this little gem, developer codes, but no luck yet.
But other than that, this watch works GREAT with my Galaxy 5.
BTW ordered a " 1.5Inch ZGPAX S8 Smart Watch MTK6572 Dual Core Smartphone Android 4.4 WIFI GPS", witch DOES run android 4.4
and is almost the same look as the GV08.
where have you ordered your "1.5Inch ZGPAX S8 Smart Watch MTK6572 Dual Core Smartphone Android 4.4 WIFI GPS"?
Do you know if it is possible to connect the GV08 with a bluetooth speaker/headphone?
So you can play the music on the inside microSD on an external bluetooth speaker?
Has anyone bought this smartwatch? Because I have a problem and don't know how to solve it. It's not a big deal, it's just that I can't edit the shortcuts on the tools screen. Can anyone help me?
Texting from watch to phone via BT
Sorry to bump this almost a year old post. I just wanted to ask to those of you who have used it already, can it send a text message without the SIM Card? I mean you received it on your android phone, it pushes to the watch and you can reply straight from the watch.
Hoping someone will answer, thanks!
I bought one too
I have one and the QR code for the BT Notifications app on the watch does not work on Android higher than 4.4. Smart Wear works with 5.0 and 5.1, just upgraded my S5. I screwed up and got into the shower with the watch on. It went dead, I opened it up all the way to the screen and dried it out. It works fine, but make sure you reconnect all the wires. Its a great watch for the price, I paid $58, wish I would have seen your post before I bought mine. http://cdn3.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Mine does not enter the engineer-mode. Also it does not crash when entering the shortcut manager. Maybe it is because I have the GV08 (not GV08s) I don't know but still you seem like a person who dug this through. We should look for another watch that does support something like changing firmware, like the AN1 maybe, which has normal Android built in rather than Android Wear or some unknown OS.

The deal looks great, 50% off, however, the sites where you can buy all have a less than stellar reputation. I am concerned that they will let you complete the sale even when stock is gone and you will be waiting forever with your money tied up and no watch for days. It seems to be a normal practice among these sites.

Who knows when this "sale", and I use the term loosely since it doesn't appear to exist, is supposed to start. I was there at 00:00 Beijing time and it never happened. I even ask a representative at Gearbest whether it started at Beijing time and she said yes. I checked alternate sites, no sale price. I think this is just a marketing ploy to hype the product.

Tried snagging one on Gear Best for half price. There were only 15 at this price today. I got in and got the half price, then their site glitched and bombed out on the check out. When I went back to checkout, the coupon code was gone and when I re-entered, they were already used up.
I know what you mean, when I tried to reload the site, I got an even higher price than before something like $112

Yeah, but only to the first 15 people who use it. Tiny Deal had 100 units for $6.95 on a seckill. However, their site was so glitchy and it kept giving bad gateway errors I gave up. I think this half price sale is more gimmick than reality. After getting up at 4:00 am two nights in a row to try to get one at half price, I have given up. The sites are too unstable to handle the load of attempts. It is just too frustrating and unreliable to be the real deal. More hype than help.

Ticwatch S&E - what is your opinion & More information

Hi guys,
The Ticwatch S&E powered by Android Wear 2.0 will be releasing soon.
What do you guys think of these new watches?
Link to the Kickstarter page: http://kck.st/2h2OqGj
Personally I have good faith in the watch because it is produced by a company that has been founded by ex-Googlers and has been supported by Google.
Pro's:
- OLED Display.
- Cheap.
- With the E model you can swap the watch band.
Cons:
- No NFC.
- Plastic instead of metal..
- With the S model you can't swap the watch band

That's a shame I hope they'll do a better job with this watch
S&E model will use Android wear 2.0 instead of ticwear OS.
For Android user is better than iOS user.
Hi there, i will not buy this watch, because of having the ticwatch 2 onyx black since 1 year. It is running without problems and I use it every day. Iam happy with it. The only advantage of the new one is Andoidwear2, but not more. I hope they will port it on my ticwatch 2 Have a nice day...
Mtk is a killer for many. It is a deal breaker.
Kinda sad how no one is able to top the original Huawei Watch. It came out in September 2015!
I've first backed for the TicWatch S on Kickstarter but witthdrawn my pledge as IP67 is really not enough for me, I was really excited about the TiWact S when first heard of it, but the lack of a proper Water Proofing (not water resist) made go for the Nixon MIssion, of course it's a far more expensive watch but it also is tougher.

i think the lg u2 tops all. and its also from 2015 (ok last rev. 2016)
I just received the Ticwatch E, I backed it on Kickstarter. Honestly, I just wanted to be able to change watch faces whenever I felt like it and it was only $99.00. If you have questions I'll try to answer them.
I just got mine and I love it a ton. It's exactly what I want, which is notifications on my wrist, and Google Assistant in my wrist. I'm already missing a lot less notifications. It's also charging quite fast! Two hours for a full charge at most.
I got mine delivered yesterday (S Model). So far I like it! I have a Moto 360 Gen2 so it's not a huge upgrade but it's more responsive and yes it seems to charge really fast.

Hi I have also just received them and I found them to perfectly fit my needs.
I have one question however hoping to find positive answer. As you might know, there is NFC chip on the watch as well, however is disabled thanks to some Android Wear security rules. Do you think there will be a way how to enable the NFC chip?
Having working NFC on the watch would be really nice bonus.
Ticwatch S impressions
I got my Ticwatch S on Thursday last week and I am mostly disappointed with the watch. My main complaints are:
1. The wakeup gesture doesn't work reliably. Most of the time it doesn't detect my wrist gesture and stays dark. Sometimes it needs around a second to detect it and to lit up.
2. The battery life is horrible. It hardly lasts more than a day, sometimes even less.
3. The OK Google command is not working very well. You need either to talk very close to the microphone or try couple of times to make it working. In general I think this is a problem of the microphone, because it doesn't work reliably in other applications as well
4. The watch is not very legible exposed to direct sunlight and it lacks automatic brightness which makes it extra bright during the night and not very bright during the day.
5. There is a rainbow effect around the screen edges, which is a bit annoying
6. I think also that the watch is a bit bulky and a bit on the heavy side, also the strap is made of rubber so your wrist sweats a lot during exercises.
And last but not least the Ticwatch forum is complete garbage. I tried to post two threads regarding my initial impressions and a question about how to switch from Fahrenheit to Celsius in the forum and they never showed up there, which means that the admins didn't approve them! So my advice is not to buy any Mobvoi product!

I can't find any compass app in the watch and any I've installed from Play don't work (either with location turned off or on). GPS works well, but compass seems dead or absent?

Hi, don't know your source of information, but to the best of my knowledge Ticwatch S & E use a Mediatek CPU that has no NFC and there is no other NFC built into the watch.

I am truly much more satisfied with my two year old Fossil Q Founder 1st Generation. There is also a lot of trouble with Google Fit. The values are all over the place. I sent several tickets to the support and haven't received any answers, just a note that the message has been received.

What really drives me crazy about this Ticwatch is that my two threads didn't even appear in their forum. I got a message that they have to be approved by the admin beforehand and then disappeared. I guess they are even censoring their own forum. After couple of days of use with the watch I can report that the battery is lasting not more than 24 hours with very little usage. This is far from the advertised 2 full days. Usually if I track an exercise I need to re-charge it more often.
It would be interesting if someone would find a way to gain root access on this smartwatch. I can confirm that there is NFC and that it is not enabled because the processor doesn't support android pay, but in Chinese version NFC is enabled.
I was a super early bird backer of the S model on the Kickstarter campaign. So far my experiences seem atypical:
1. Got my tracking number and received my watch with no real issues.
2. Battery life for me seems pretty good. As I'm writing this, I am at 30hrs of use with 25% charge left. I have both bluetooth and wifi on, display set at 4 (is that 75%?) , OK Google detection is ON, Always on display is OFF.
3. Wake up gesture is ok, not as laggy as what I have read from others. I'd say it wakes about 90% pf the time.
4. Google Assistant detection only seems to work when screen is on, but i think that is how its supposed to be right? It recognizes the OK Google prompt, pretty well for me, however, I have been told by many many people that I am a loud talker.
Overall, I'm digging it, and am pretty happy with what I got from a $119 investment.
