I know that the search for a smartwatch is prominent for most, and the GV08 is nothing "new" in tech terms. I found a seller on eBay pushing them out for $33.00 shipped.

This is a Galaxy Gear 2 clone, and i bought one (just to tie me over until I get the G Watch R for Christmas ). It's a nifty little device with pretty awesome features and an unbeatable price tag!

Now, I've done my research and wanted to answer some questions for potential buyers:
1. Does it run Android Wear?
No it doesn't. It uses an OS called Necleus RTOS (OS used by Pebble Smarwatches and the Omate TrueSmart Series watches from what I've read) that is more so a single app with multiple functions than an independent OS with interoperable core system processes, etc. (Pretty much the opposite of Android).
2. Can we port AW to it?
No, it only has 128MB of ram and a 360Mhz processor, which doesn't meet AW requirements
3. What does this have that the (insert AW watch name here) doesn't?
Well from my readings, despite RTOS being simple, it can function completely as it's own entity, unlike AW. This watch has a SIM card slot, microSD card slot, pedometer, music player, browser, etc. Etc. With the same "premium" build as gear watches. Though it doesn't have wear, it has a lot to offer, and it pairs seemlessly with Android for texts and phone calls and stuff.
4. Drawbacks?
Obviously, no Android Wear (dead horse officially beaten). Also, because RTOS is sort of like an app, I haven't seen any app offerings for watch faces and stuff, so there's very limited add ons outside of what is already present.
5. Did I miss anything?
Now because it's from China and I'm in the States, I'm looking at a 2+ week shipping time. But I ordered at like 1 in the morning central time Saturday and they shipped it by 3 A.M. CST. I'll be back in the future with a little review of the watch to help potential buyers. Hopefully it's still this cheap by then lol!

The time is synced with data and wifi, same as phones.
When there's no data/wifi or the watch is in Airplane mode then the accuracy is off by seconds. Over time the inaccuracies build up.
If you don't have data or don't bluetooth it you can always adjust the time manually.
Support
Is there any support for this watch what so ever?, cant find a website for it, or any downloads firmware updates ?

Been searching for over 8 months, for upgrades, how to remove shortcuts, how to reprogram this little gem, developer codes, but no luck yet.
But other than that, this watch works GREAT with my Galaxy 5.
BTW ordered a " 1.5Inch ZGPAX S8 Smart Watch MTK6572 Dual Core Smartphone Android 4.4 WIFI GPS", witch DOES run android 4.4
and is almost the same look as the GV08.
where have you ordered your "1.5Inch ZGPAX S8 Smart Watch MTK6572 Dual Core Smartphone Android 4.4 WIFI GPS"?
Do you know if it is possible to connect the GV08 with a bluetooth speaker/headphone?
So you can play the music on the inside microSD on an external bluetooth speaker?
Has anyone bought this smartwatch? Because I have a problem and don't know how to solve it. It's not a big deal, it's just that I can't edit the shortcuts on the tools screen. Can anyone help me?
Texting from watch to phone via BT
Sorry to bump this almost a year old post. I just wanted to ask to those of you who have used it already, can it send a text message without the SIM Card? I mean you received it on your android phone, it pushes to the watch and you can reply straight from the watch.
Hoping someone will answer, thanks!
I bought one too
I have one and the QR code for the BT Notifications app on the watch does not work on Android higher than 4.4. Smart Wear works with 5.0 and 5.1, just upgraded my S5. I screwed up and got into the shower with the watch on. It went dead, I opened it up all the way to the screen and dried it out. It works fine, but make sure you reconnect all the wires. Its a great watch for the price, I paid $58, wish I would have seen your post before I bought mine. http://cdn3.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Mine does not enter the engineer-mode. Also it does not crash when entering the shortcut manager. Maybe it is because I have the GV08 (not GV08s) I don't know but still you seem like a person who dug this through. We should look for another watch that does support something like changing firmware, like the AN1 maybe, which has normal Android built in rather than Android Wear or some unknown OS.

I figured since there is finally a place to post this, I will do so here. There is currently ongoing development for the Motorola MotoACTV smart watch. It began simply as a fitness watch, but has evolved with root, recovery, and roms into the best android watch available.
AND IT CAME OUT IN NOVEMBER OF 2011.
Interesting, yes? Let me get you some details from our current wiki (http://motoactv.wikispaces.com/home, started from the members right here on xda):
Code:
Hardware Specs:
Processor: 600MHz OMAP3 (3630) ARMv7 CPU supporting ARM architecture:
- thumb, vfp, vfpv3, edsp & neon. (overclockable to 1Ghz currently)
256MB of RAM and 8GB of NAND Flash Memory (Or 16 GB)
Wifi 802.11B/G/N
Bluetooth 4.0 (low-power mode)
ANT+ for connectivity to fitness sensors (heart rate, etc.)
FM Tuner (with Radio Data System for station & song identification)
PowerVR GPU
1.6" 220x176 capacitive multitouch LCD display
5 hardware buttons on the side:
- (Start, Music, Volume +, Volume -, Standby/Power)
1 additional capacitive button on the front for 'back button'.
Ambient light sensor
White charging and notification LEDs
Accelerometer
GPS
So now that you're intrigued, let me give you some resources to get you started!

IF YOU DIDN'T LISTEN AND ARE NOW "LOW BATTERY" AND CANNOT FLASH:
First thing's first. It will probably still charge on the wall charger or a car charger. Try that first. But, if it won't...
(or if you're just an avid flasher,) I'd also recommend you get one of these to help you out of jams: Motorola Factory Cable. The one at that link from Team Black Hat is typically out of stock, but a search of the words "Motorola Factory Fastboot Cable" on eBay can get you one for between $5-8. This cable does not charge your unit and does not come with the MotoACTV.
Any questions? Please post below. And GET YOUR ACTV ON!

Update: just checked, they're going for $50-200 on ebay, lots are on there for sale.
Also, I will be updating the first post of this thread with any info/links that you guys need. We would love for more development of this device, since we've been doing it for months/years now.
Wow this seems great! Youtube and a browser. I recently bought myself the Sony Smart Watch, and I was not too impressed with the battery life time, how is this ones?
I also managed to ruin my SmartWatch, but I'm gonna get it refunded from the store I'll probably get this from eBay! Is there any bugs/problems I should know about from the Motorola watch?
I get mine tomorrow, and my only concern/question is how well this handles Bluetooth tethering. I use FoxFi and PDAnet with phone and tablet and i'm hoping I can use the same with the motoactv.

Not really. Battery life for me is around a week, sometimes more if I turn it off at night. I don't leave bluetooth or wifi on unless I need them though, and keep the brightness around half. I also turned off the shake-to-wake feature, as my watch was turning on when I was just walking around and using up battery life with the screen on lol.
But, for such a tiny battery, a week is pretty good in my opinion. Either way, you can just charge it every night if you're a heavy user. Keep in mind, this isn't like those other "smart watches" that only issue notifications, this is a full blown android device.

I know Nook Tether works on it for bluetooth tethering (internet pass through) I believe, but I'm not sure about the others. I've heard of PDAnet also, it might have been another that worked. I don't tether mine though, so I'm not sure.
The only thing I want different is the watch strap, and an XDA user is actually working on a better one right now. I can't wait!

I'm leading an auction on eBay at the moment. The "Buy Now" alternatives is too expensive with shipping to Norway :/
A week battery time sounds good to me I had to charge my SmartWatch every day, and that wasn't a problem.
How's the Firefox browser and YouTube app working on the watch?

Is there a way to keep the display on to use as a watch, without pushing a button? How much space does the OS use? Is Ebay prefer over Amazon for purchase?

It has shake to wake, where you shake your wrist and the display turns on. The os doesn't use much, maybe 200mb or something. I've got the 8 gig version and have plenty of space, even with roms. However, the space for installing apps is limited for the time being. I'm not sure, but there might be a way to partition the space on the device to get more app space.

I was unaware of the shake to awaken. I will go for the 8 Gb unit when I get the funds. More reading needs to be done to see which ROM may be the best for me. How hard is it for someone to generate a customized ROM without extensive training?

It doesn't have a built in speaker. I'm sure you can get the alarm to show on the screen though?

That could be a problem I was thinking of using the alarm in the morning and when needed. Off to see one at VZW today.
The store did not have any, demo or for sale.

Cool! Let us know what you think! Of course, the one you see won't be rooted or have a regular android launcher on it yet.
I have decided to buy one, preferably at less than ~$250. I would prefer new versus used since they are discontinued and i am uncertain about warrantee. Maybe i can afford to order one next week. No doubt I will have questions, if rooting does not go smoothly.

Just make sure it's charged to 100% before you start, and use the root tool with a windows machine. It should be easy as pie.
UNBOXING (check also the info in the video description on Youtube)
MEGA REVIEW (33 minutes)
Smart Watch ZGPAX S28 with SIM/MicroSD Card Slot, MTK6260, 450mAh Battery.
This device is a very practical and convenient tool. The design has some small similarities with the Gear 2 from Samsung. It seems use the same hardware as another smartwatch out called Aoluguya M6, that also can be found on the internet. But the M6 seems to have another kind of software/firmware than the S28.
The ZGPAX S28 can be used with or without a smartphone. To use all features a Android phone is needed, but some few basic features can also be used if connected with an iPhone over bluetooth.
The ZGPAX S28 uses its own OS (probably Nucleus RTOS for the operating system) so it is not running full android (but connects to Android phones via an BT app), and it has no built-in camera (but instead it has built-in SIM and SD card slot, and calls can be done without a separate phone). For the low price (half or even 1/3 of many other smartwatches out), this watch is IMO amazing and very nice!
Specifications & features:
- CPU: MTK6260 360MHz
- 1.54 inch Touch Screen 240x240
- Phone feature with Single SIM (Micro)
- MicroSD Card slot

- Weight 55g
- G-sensor
- Icons can be re-ordered like you want them
- Earphones are included, can be used via the USB port
- QWERTY keyboard / T9 / Handwriting
Pros:
- This is for users who want a cheap standalone watch with SIM and no need for full android OS.
- Own SIM card tray and SD card slot
- Own phonebook, no need to sync from phone
- Price is amazing low! (1/3 of other smartwatches)
- Gear 2 design with front button
- Headphones for the microUSB port are included
- Can use your own custom mp3 ringtones
- The watch can also connect to a BT speaker and play the music via that
Cons:
- Not full android, uses own system OS
- No GPS
- Not waterproof
- Only 1 digital and 1 analog clock
- No wallpapers
- No WLAN, only possible for data via SIM card
- No built-in camera (only remote cam possible)
Note: It will only work with GSM Networks: GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
If anyone should have some hacks, tips or tricks to this watch, please share!
I am also searching for another firmware or upgrade for it.

Can't put Android on MTK6260. The thing clocks at 360 mhz. Not to mention, it has 8mb ROM and 8mb RAM.
They go have an Android version that has a similar design out though called the S8.

PS. I have updated post #1 with a full MEGA REVIEW now.
(in this I show how notifications work, on SMS you can read the message and also reply back! Batterylife is good for about 2 days with normale usage, but also depends on brightness of the screen - I have mine on full).
This watch can not run full android. It was not meant to run a full OS. That's why the price is also so low. It is only for those who want a Smartwatch with built-in sim and basic features for calling, notifications and SMS.
Guys, the S8 may be better on paper, but I just checked it, and it is actually not released yet from ZGPAX, also the few sellers who already are trying to sell it have it priced for triple the price of the S28 - just remember that.
For the price I think the S28 is a nice watch, if you can live with no full os and only basic features. Also the S28 have some few nice features, like you can choose own ringtones, reply directly with QWERTY or T9 keyboard to SMS, own built-in phonebook, and it can call independent from a connected phone etc. Some of these things are even missing or not possible on my other Kingelon K2 smartwatch that runs with full Android 4.2. So a full android OS doesn't necessary make the watch better.

I am a bit unsure what the system actually is. Seems to be Tizen or something just based off on Linux. There is no version inside the settings. But still I hope for a future firmware upgrade. When connected to the computer, you can on the watch choose to connect it as a mass USB storage or COM port.
S7yler thanks for such a comprehensive review. I am amazed at all of the feature of the s28 and was shocked with how much you can do with the device I feel a lot better about buying one. Hopefully it gets shipped out from gear best soon!
Even though it's not running android whatever os it has, seems to add enough to the watch. Even how you can rearrange app icons and have transition effects, is surprising for a watch at this price. Can't wait to get mine!
Does it have a reminder or To-do app?
S7yler - With no Wifi, usually its possible to get data on the watch through Bluetooth, worth trying it out.
Thanks for the review.

Definitely doesn't run Tizen. Minimum hardware compliance for Tizen is 512 MB RAM and 1 GB ROM. The chipset (MTK6260) usually runs Nucleus RTOS for the operating system.

Almost positive it's Nucleus RTOS. For the low end MTK chips, the options are very limited.
the omate x is using nucleus too.
I take it theres no apps for the S28?

Inside the calendar on the watch, you can add reminders, for example if you need to remember something a special day, you can add a note in the calendar at setup a reminder alert. Just like in a normal calendar. Or you can get notified from the smartphones calendar. It does not look like that data is possible other than from the Sim cards GPRS/wap.

Do you know if there are mods or Roms of Nucleus Rtos that might offer even more functionality with this MTK6260? Thanks.
Hi everyone!
A new watch has born. Very interesting, altought it has no camera. No water protection adviced, but it looks great!

Does anyone have it?
To save Pablo11, Cyrux75, Maitrot, chiragjn and all those others that have contributed in this thread, the trouble of repeating the same instructions and to help new owners find solutions fast, i have made a compilation of the most useful posts in this thread. None of this is mine.
The thread starter could think of putting this in the op to save some trouble.
Dont use OTA if rooted! You have to go back to stock.
Android 101 : Read first
Pablo11 :
A general announcement to anyone thinking of modifying their watch.
Be careful !!
Please read everything about this process at least twice.
I have already had several private messages asking me to fix semi-bricked watches by posting them to me.
I have a family and a full time position at work and I cannot invest the time to fix peoples watches.
If instructions are followed carefully and the forum posts regarding MTK flash tools are read then there should be no problem.
As a rule - always;
a) full backup first including NVRAM for IMEI using MTK tools.
b) make sure all drivers for SP tools are installed correctly in case of disaster.
c) have the custom TWRP recovery installed on the watch - booting from SD recovery is no good if you can't boot the watch!!
d) make sure watch is fully charged before you do anything that may take some time.
e) copy the TWRP stock backup posted by me earlier in this thread to your SD card before you do anything significant - you can delete it after but remember this each time you do something that may prevent normal boot.
This way you can always boot into recovery without your pc and flash back to stock.
Lastly - take some comfort in the fact that it's actually very difficult to permanently brick this device. If you use the correct toolset you can revive the watch almost all the time !!

FAQ:
Does it have GPS ? YES, the antenna is inside the strap (the top strap). If you want better reception keep the strap on top, facing the sky, this means that when running you may want to wear the watch in reverse. Also try to put a plastic spacer between your hand and the strap where the GPS antenna resides, it will help reception, i use a rubber band.
Companion APP? Swapp link and notisync work but this is not an android wear watch! This is like your smartphone. If you have two smartphones you can connect them through swapp link and check it out. There difference with wear is that it is optimized to be a slave to your smartphone.
Round screen means some buttons on the edges will not be accessible, try making it square (see above how) and think of using tasker to make a long press of a button to trigger the change (root required).
Does runkeeper, mapmyfitness, wahoo, strava work ? YES
Is the heart rate sensor and good ? Not if you are serious about it. Use a bluetooth HRM (Scosche Rhytm+ or Mio). Also the embedded sensor does not communicate with any of the known sport apps.
Can i change straps ? Well, yes if you dont use any of the antennas that are in the straps! If you are handy you can take the antennas out of the straps (they should be microstrip antennas) and stick them on the new strap, though the reception may be affected as the substrate of the antenna plays an important role.
I emailed gearbest they dint have it and didn't tell me if it was available for preorder looks nice though
I saw it on alibaba and I have contacted the seller and he said that is a prototype watch that could be available starting from the beginning of november.
Hello everyone.
I am very interested in this model.
Someone can facilitate link alibaba?
I order a unit to gearbest.
They have already announced also in Igogo, everbuying.
In gearbest they have told me that still has not arrived.
who is the manufacturer?
I like this watch alot. I think there is a need for round watches with android 4.4 and google play store loaded on it.
My main question is who makes this watch or even the original k8? I have seen aiwatch, invtepy and some other names but arent they just oems?
Thanks!
it look awesome , but the price is a little high ?

It looks great but no hands on information anywhere?
I'm thinking about buying this device, I've just got in contact with Everbuying (the site I am purchasing from) and I will be sure to let you all know what the response is. If I end up buying this I will also do an unboxing and review on my YouTube channel at youtube.com/theepiclysnipes
I am also thinking of creating a custom ROM for this device as the devices design is really quite great, however I feel like the UI makes it look cheap :/
Let me know if you have any other info! Cheers!!
Nice, keep us posted when you get it ?
Will do! Just ordered it then, not sure how long it will take to get from China to Australia but I will keep you all posted

Nice
Ok so it turns out that the website I ordered my watch from doesn't ship it... I was told by someone on YouTube that they bought it and they didn't ship it and they refused to refund their money... I've sent them a message though and if I don't hear anything by Wednesday I will contact PayPal and get my money back, then I will more than likely buy a moto 360 locally... I'll keep you all posted, fingers crossed.
Sent from my C6603 using XDA Free mobile app
where did you buy it?
I personally made an order via gearbest. they said that there is a delay in stock of 1-2 weeks, and offered to replace, wait or refund.
and what did you choose? refund or wait? and also , when did this happen? any chance it s back in stock now? I m using the zgpax s8 for a while now and this one really looks like it s worth the upgrade.
I purchased mine from Everbuying and it seems they just don't ship some of their products, weather they're out of stock or not I'm not sure because it didn't say they were but I've sent them a message and I'm hoping for a response... Also someone else had the same problem with the same product and they said after 3 emails to them they still refused to refund it. Hopefully either they will tell me they were out of stock or they will refund my money, because if not I'll have to sort it out with PayPal...
Sent from my C6603 using XDA Free mobile app
I just received a reply from Everbuying saying that they were out of stock and I should wait 10-15 days for more stock to arrive, however I now have enough for a moto 360 so I will be purchasing one of them... I may purchase a watch similar to this one and do custom roms, etc. In the future but for now I kind of just want to know what I'm purchasing, thank everyone!

The deal looks great, 50% off, however, the sites where you can buy all have a less than stellar reputation. I am concerned that they will let you complete the sale even when stock is gone and you will be waiting forever with your money tied up and no watch for days. It seems to be a normal practice among these sites.

Who knows when this "sale", and I use the term loosely since it doesn't appear to exist, is supposed to start. I was there at 00:00 Beijing time and it never happened. I even ask a representative at Gearbest whether it started at Beijing time and she said yes. I checked alternate sites, no sale price. I think this is just a marketing ploy to hype the product.

Tried snagging one on Gear Best for half price. There were only 15 at this price today. I got in and got the half price, then their site glitched and bombed out on the check out. When I went back to checkout, the coupon code was gone and when I re-entered, they were already used up.
I know what you mean, when I tried to reload the site, I got an even higher price than before something like $112

Yeah, but only to the first 15 people who use it. Tiny Deal had 100 units for $6.95 on a seckill. However, their site was so glitchy and it kept giving bad gateway errors I gave up. I think this half price sale is more gimmick than reality. After getting up at 4:00 am two nights in a row to try to get one at half price, I have given up. The sites are too unstable to handle the load of attempts. It is just too frustrating and unreliable to be the real deal. More hype than help.
Hi guys,
The Ticwatch S&E powered by Android Wear 2.0 will be releasing soon.
What do you guys think of these new watches?
Link to the Kickstarter page: http://kck.st/2h2OqGj
Personally I have good faith in the watch because it is produced by a company that has been founded by ex-Googlers and has been supported by Google.
Pro's:
- OLED Display.
- Cheap.
- With the E model you can swap the watch band.
Cons:
- No NFC.
- Plastic instead of metal..
- With the S model you can't swap the watch band

That's a shame I hope they'll do a better job with this watch
S&E model will use Android wear 2.0 instead of ticwear OS.
For Android user is better than iOS user.
Hi there, i will not buy this watch, because of having the ticwatch 2 onyx black since 1 year. It is running without problems and I use it every day. Iam happy with it. The only advantage of the new one is Andoidwear2, but not more. I hope they will port it on my ticwatch 2 Have a nice day...
Mtk is a killer for many. It is a deal breaker.
Kinda sad how no one is able to top the original Huawei Watch. It came out in September 2015!
I've first backed for the TicWatch S on Kickstarter but witthdrawn my pledge as IP67 is really not enough for me, I was really excited about the TiWact S when first heard of it, but the lack of a proper Water Proofing (not water resist) made go for the Nixon MIssion, of course it's a far more expensive watch but it also is tougher.

i think the lg u2 tops all. and its also from 2015 (ok last rev. 2016)
I just received the Ticwatch E, I backed it on Kickstarter. Honestly, I just wanted to be able to change watch faces whenever I felt like it and it was only $99.00. If you have questions I'll try to answer them.
I just got mine and I love it a ton. It's exactly what I want, which is notifications on my wrist, and Google Assistant in my wrist. I'm already missing a lot less notifications. It's also charging quite fast! Two hours for a full charge at most.
I got mine delivered yesterday (S Model). So far I like it! I have a Moto 360 Gen2 so it's not a huge upgrade but it's more responsive and yes it seems to charge really fast.

Hi I have also just received them and I found them to perfectly fit my needs.
I have one question however hoping to find positive answer. As you might know, there is NFC chip on the watch as well, however is disabled thanks to some Android Wear security rules. Do you think there will be a way how to enable the NFC chip?
Having working NFC on the watch would be really nice bonus.
Ticwatch S impressions
I got my Ticwatch S on Thursday last week and I am mostly disappointed with the watch. My main complaints are:
1. The wakeup gesture doesn't work reliably. Most of the time it doesn't detect my wrist gesture and stays dark. Sometimes it needs around a second to detect it and to lit up.
2. The battery life is horrible. It hardly lasts more than a day, sometimes even less.
3. The OK Google command is not working very well. You need either to talk very close to the microphone or try couple of times to make it working. In general I think this is a problem of the microphone, because it doesn't work reliably in other applications as well
4. The watch is not very legible exposed to direct sunlight and it lacks automatic brightness which makes it extra bright during the night and not very bright during the day.
5. There is a rainbow effect around the screen edges, which is a bit annoying
6. I think also that the watch is a bit bulky and a bit on the heavy side, also the strap is made of rubber so your wrist sweats a lot during exercises.
And last but not least the Ticwatch forum is complete garbage. I tried to post two threads regarding my initial impressions and a question about how to switch from Fahrenheit to Celsius in the forum and they never showed up there, which means that the admins didn't approve them! So my advice is not to buy any Mobvoi product!
Ticwatch E compass ???

Have you been able to find and use the E-compass supposed to be built in the watch??
I can't find any compass app in the watch and any I've installed from Play don't work (either with location turned off or on). GPS works well, but compass seems dead or absent?

Hi, don't know your source of information, but to the best of my knowledge Ticwatch S & E use a Mediatek CPU that has no NFC and there is no other NFC built into the watch.

What really drives me crazy about this Ticwatch is that my two threads didn't even appear in their forum. I got a message that they have to be approved by the admin beforehand and then disappeared. I guess they are even censoring their own forum. After couple of days of use with the watch I can report that the battery is lasting not more than 24 hours with very little usage. This is far from the advertised 2 full days. Usually if I track an exercise I need to re-charge it more often.
It would be interesting if someone would find a way to gain root access on this smartwatch. I can confirm that there is NFC and that it is not enabled because the processor doesn't support android pay, but in Chinese version NFC is enabled.
I was a super early bird backer of the S model on the Kickstarter campaign. So far my experiences seem atypical:
1. Got my tracking number and received my watch with no real issues.
2. Battery life for me seems pretty good. As I'm writing this, I am at 30hrs of use with 25% charge left. I have both bluetooth and wifi on, display set at 4 (is that 75%?) , OK Google detection is ON, Always on display is OFF.
3. Wake up gesture is ok, not as laggy as what I have read from others. I'd say it wakes about 90% pf the time.
4. Google Assistant detection only seems to work when screen is on, but i think that is how its supposed to be right? It recognizes the OK Google prompt, pretty well for me, however, I have been told by many many people that I am a loud talker.
Overall, I'm digging it, and am pretty happy with what I got from a $119 investment.
