The deal looks great, 50% off, however, the sites where you can buy all have a less than stellar reputation. I am concerned that they will let you complete the sale even when stock is gone and you will be waiting forever with your money tied up and no watch for days. It seems to be a normal practice among these sites.

Who knows when this "sale", and I use the term loosely since it doesn't appear to exist, is supposed to start. I was there at 00:00 Beijing time and it never happened. I even ask a representative at Gearbest whether it started at Beijing time and she said yes. I checked alternate sites, no sale price. I think this is just a marketing ploy to hype the product.

Tried snagging one on Gear Best for half price. There were only 15 at this price today. I got in and got the half price, then their site glitched and bombed out on the check out. When I went back to checkout, the coupon code was gone and when I re-entered, they were already used up.

I know what you mean, when I tried to reload the site, I got an even higher price than before something like $112

Not to mention I had to wake up at 4:00 am my time to get in on the deal. Such a mockery of a sham....

i am very disappointed with this attitude as well

those site i'll never buy from them even if they have good prices of all i've read in many thread about them.

Yeah, but only to the first 15 people who use it. Tiny Deal had 100 units for $6.95 on a seckill. However, their site was so glitchy and it kept giving bad gateway errors I gave up. I think this half price sale is more gimmick than reality. After getting up at 4:00 am two nights in a row to try to get one at half price, I have given up. The sites are too unstable to handle the load of attempts. It is just too frustrating and unreliable to be the real deal. More hype than help.

HOT Watch smartwatch [UPDATE: VIDEO! JULY 31st 2014]

i think this watch deserves it's own topic (and no, i don't have shares or any ties with them )
original kickstarter project here
now that i have had the Sony Smartwatch 2 for a month or so, i'm glad i backed this project
yes, the SW2 has apps and a color screen, so?
it's not like many of the apps are useful anyway
no microphone, no speaker, no response from Sony on reported issues/wishes
and i really don't need a smartwatch to replace my phone, tasks like browsing, reading email, news, etc and playing games are perfect on the 5 inch screen of my Butterfly S, so i don't really need a big color screen
there are 5 things i want from a watch
-long battery life, 4-5 days minimum
-thin, about 8-9mm should be the max
-a lot of choice in watch faces, being able to design them myself would be the ultimate, all of them should show time+date, extra info like weather would be nice (like min/max temp for the day)
-handle calls
-show important mail/whatsapp/twitter/facebook notifications (from people i find important)
the HOT Watch does most of them, i especially like the way it handles calls
you can pre-order the watch since a couple of weeks
pics of the 4 models (Basic, Classic, Edge and Curve):

Features (copied from kickstarter):
-Private calls amplified by the palm of your hand
-Speakerphone
-Voice activated calling and other phone control using your phone’s native voice recognition such as iPhone SIRI
-Receive and reply to Messages (SMS, Email, Facebook and Twitter)
-Music player remote control (for your phone’s native player)
-Multiple dial faces
-Automatic fast contacts sync
-Caller ID
-Audible and silent vibrating alarms and alerts
-Pedometer: Record running, walking, steps climbed, calories burned
-Fall detection with automatic text to emergency number (unless cancelled in 30 seconds)
-LED illumination
-Note capture: captures your handwriting on the watch face
-Tactile vibration feedback
-HOT Proximity Alerts: Never leave your phone behind and prevent theft
-Find your phone with remote beep
-Built-in LED Flashlight (ONLY in Curve)
-Water Resistant
-Multi-touch projected capacitive screen (Skim finger above glass to change screens)
if any info is missing/incomplete, let me know and i'll add it

I too have backed this Kickstarter project, I think this watch will be great for formal occasions. Nice looking sleek and thin unlike Omates true smart watch ,that I backed also, but will only use for outdoorsy stuff, kayaking ,swimming ,beach, etc.
TBO it does sound like you have a vested interest in the Hot watch. I agree , great looking watch but it does not have that much more on the competition except looks. I really doubt if there will as many Apps as there is available for the Pebble, only due to the popularity of Pebble compared to Hot,first to the starting line I guess

i don't care for apps, really. like i said, it doesn't need to replace my smartphone at all, i just want a watch with some additional functionality
the HOT Watch doesn't even run apps, does it? or very limited
i just hope there will be plenty watch faces to choose from or have the ability to design/add them myself
ps: would you mind removing the quoted part? don't need all those pics twice... thanks
A sdk is coming out. I was hoping more excitement and buzz for this watch..can't wait to get mine.

i don't get it either, maybe once it's available in stores that people will start noticing?
i also don't understand why people prefer those clunky things on their wrists
i think it's too early for those mini-smartphone-on-your-wrist things, they need to make them (a lot) smaller/thinner first, use flexible displays, way better batteries, that kind of stuff
in the meantime, watches like the HOT Watch are ideal
IMHO ofcourse
I was close to getting the Omate. But I can't imagine charging twice or three times a day. Plus the private is pretty cool.. We need tasker support out the box or early on.

Two more e-paper watches
Two more e-paper watches from China:
(1) Sonostar - http://www.sonostar.com/Smartwatch/Specificaion
(2) Tomoon - http://www.tomoon.cn/index (No English)
Dunno what processor these two watches use.
E-paper watches should be more battery frugal because power is only used when the screen is refreshed. However, e-paper screen refresh rate is low (< 15 fps) so don't expect fluid youtube video or game playing (if these are ever possible), and there is "ghost" problem during refresh. Also the older e-ink / e-paper devices don't have night light, but the latest models eg. Kindle Paperwhite and Kobo Glo have front light (e-paper is opaque and doesn't use back lighting).

If you are talking about Omate, the correct statement would be charging every 2-3 days, NOT 2-3 times a day. I think you mixed it up with Gear (which btw last more than 24hr on a single charge)
Regarding HOT Watch, I can tell you from experience of owning MetaWatch and Omate TS, as well as reading plenty about Pebble at the time of the release - when it comes to KS projects, their focus is to deliver hardware first with unfinished software/apps. After all the delays and final release of hardware, all users become beta testers of software, and often they rely on XDA and other developers to release custom ROMs and write their own software. I don't expect HOT to be any different, although would love to be proven wrong. Even big guys like Sammy and Sony can't get fully functionality software out of the door with hardware release. As I said, every company just wants to get to a final hardware production to start shipping the units. Then, software will follow up.
Two to three days sounds good but what kind of use are you doing? Screen on times ect.
I was hoping the hot will get the support level the pebble did as I like the ts a lot but not quite sold on it yet.
hoping Google will announce something this coming year.

Not as much use yet, with heavy use realistically it will probably be a day considering this is a real android "smartphone" on your wrist
Regarding Pebble, it only took them what, 8-9 months, million$ of investment, and being sold in Best Buy, Amazon, AT&T stores, etc.
I do agree with you, once Google will release something, it will be at a reasonable price (obviously subsidized) and will have a working native android software from get-go.
@slim_thumb that sonostar watch looks pretty decent actually, nice resolution as well
but you still can't order it, there's a video of over 6 months old on youtube where they show a mockup, because that's all they had at that point, maybe still is a mockup
then again, it really doesn't do a whole lot more than my SW2
that's why i want the HOT watch, the private handsfree function seems ideal to me
@vectron you're probably right about the software, but as long as the hardware is right, they can always fix the software
Sony did release a reasonable update recently, but they're not there yet and their support is a mess
very interested in whatever google will come up with, but again, i think a watch with flexible display and (very) good battery life (and hopefully private handsfree function like the HOT watch has) will be the ultrimate (maybe HOT Watch 2 )
until then, i think i'll be very happy with the HOT watch

@dang1 good idea, hope this watch will pick up some more attention once they present it on CES next week

inWatch Z - available in China. http://www.inwatch.cc/ not sure how much, Google translate won't work on all the pages.
Its on indiegogo, they want to raise funds for the 'western UI and cloud services', retails for $299. If you want to take a risk (release date Nov) its $199 for early backers ...however they seldom deliver on time and with the LG watch and Moto 360 coming soon, its even more risky to back it.
Similar specs as the Omate but with 'transflective' display so you get more battery life apprently, that's the only reason its interesting.
Made in Shenzhen, I've tried to search for it on Alibaba but can't find it. Anyone find the unit please do let us know. :good:

Yes, its the best smartwatch! Look in aliexpress, its about $300-400.

I mean the sensors are amazing too ... as well as the battery life. But I need to know for sure that the battery life is roughly around 7 days.

Its says 2MP camera on Aliexpress. $321 is pricey, if they could guarantee (which they can't) that the spec's are as they claim on indigogo site also that everything will work like how an Apple products does ... mostly, then I would buy it.
Notice on their indigogo site they are comparing their screen with a Gear's screen, however they not showing the same image, for the Gear they are showing an icon with a black background.
Just spotted the specs' on their http://www.inwatchz.com - they slightly differ to their indiegogo site. So i've emailed them for following:
The information on your indiegogo website and on www.inwatchz.com is not consistent. Could you kindly confirm the following please:
1. What are the dimensions of the watch?
2. Can you confirm that the watch's screen is made from Sapphire Crystal or is the screen coated with Sapphire Crystal?
3. Is the watch IP67, as in, 6 = 'Complete protection of dust' and 7 = 'Protection against temporary immersion between 15cm and 1m for 30 minutes'?
4. The camera is actually 5MP and not 3MP with software Interpolation to make it 5MP?
5. The standby time is 7 days?
6. It has 9-Axis Sensor, idle gravity, terrestrial magnatism, gyroscopic sensors?
7. Does it have voice control or not, one site says yes and one sites says no?

10. Are there screws to remove the battery?
11. What is the mAh of the battery?

They are asking for money based on the info they have given on their indiegogo site. But its inconsistent compared to the china and US websites.
If they don't reply to my questions I might email indiegogo to ask inWatch Z to clarify their info on indiegogo so people can make an informed decision.

Dont buy from this seller. Dont have high score, and sell all products cheap. Its bad. Buy only from high score sellers. This watch cost about 300-400.
Thx. Will look for high score seller for the inWatchZ. Let me know if you find one too please.
Reply from CEO InWatch Z USA
I received a reply from the CEO of InWatchZ USA ...
I am glad to hear the interest is growing and the questions are all good ones. I am concerned about the fact that we have inconsistencies between the campaign and the website, that makes it incredibly hard to make an informed consumer decision. Apologies. I will get to fixing that as soon as I finish writing this. If you have any pointers that you noticed specifically, I will start there. But first thing is first, lets get to those questions!
Q1) 1. What are the dimensions of the watch?
1) The size of inWatch Z is as follows. This is based on me with my own digital calipers and the current prototype which should not differ externally with the production model.
Z face width – 1.5 inches (3.81cm)
Z face height – 2.3 inches (5.84cm)
Z body width – .5 inches (1.27cm)
Z band width – .8 inches (2.03cm)
Q2) Can you confirm that the watch's screen is made from Sapphire Crystal or is the screen coated with Sapphire Crystal?
2) The screen is made entirely of sapphire crystal
Q3) Is the watch IP67, as in, 6 = 'Complete protection of dust' and 7 = 'Protection against temporary immersion between 15cm and 1m for 30 minutes'?
3) Correct, IP67 exactly as you have stated. Z is nano-coated with a superhydrophobic coating both inside and out. This is well within its water resistance capabilities and further testing is being done to see just how far Z can go
Q4) The camera is actually 5MP and not 3MP with software Interpolation to make it 5MP?
4) A true 5MP sensor is used to capture Z's images. MIraVision tech further enhances onboard playback of the content but the language of upscaling for capture is not spoken here *spits*
Q5) The standby time is 7 days?
5) The standby time will indeed be 7 days. That software is still being optimized and we hope to be able to revise that number with a higher one once the final power optimization code is completed for the rest of the components.
Q6) It has 9-Axis Sensor, idle gravity, terrestrial magnatism, gyroscopic sensors?
6) YES YES YES and YES
Q7) Does it have voice control or not, one site says yes and one sites says no?
7) I am SO glad you pointed that out. We changed it after the mistake was caught on teh campaign but the site never got the TLC it deserved. YES yes a thousand times yes. Android voice control will work just as it would any android phone.
Q8) The delivery date is definitely in 2014?
8) delivery date is DEFINITELY in 2014.
Q9) Is the battery removable
Q10) Are there screws to remove the battery?
Q11) What is the mAh of the battery?
9, 10, 11) THE 500mAh battery can be removed and replaced but it is not intended to be a user serviceable part. That said, neither are a certain fruit-affiliated phone's batteries and that happens all the time. It is an at-your-own-peril kind of thing. The screws are there and accessible on the back and the internals are yours to mess with once you purchase them.
OK, if there is anything else, just message me on the indiegogo campaign, I am always on it. Have a good day all and I hope this helps you narrow down your decisions. OH! We have a new campaign video coming out in a few days, go check it out when it does!

Interesting.
I think the watch looks interesting, and the design seem like it is pretty fashionable also.
However a couple things I notice:
1) On the indigogo website, it list the watch as being 3G, however based on the chinese website and all the youtube reviews. The current version is only 2G (EDGE), that take a full size sim card. So unless they planning to make a new version of the watch, I think buyers/pledges should be aware.
2) Also based on youtube review sites, and the Chinese website, it list the watch coming with Badu app store, instead of Google Play store and services. So for people who are thinking about using the watch with google store/services, this might be a big problem.
Still interesting looking watch, for people who doesn't mind the 2 above problems.

And it HAS Google play Store.
InWatch Z - Annoucement :highfive:
If anyone wants to test, hack and send ideas to the InWatch Z dev team they can get a unit ASAP (I'll confirm the date, a batch is in transit to the CEO and he needs to check it before sending it to you) but you need to back it ($199) it will be without the graving, because it takes too long.
The software is still in the development stage, you get a report of the known issues, but the hardware is as the spec's.
Let me know if you want more info' or want one. Not sure about the colours yet.
i wouldn't mind testing one
i do however wish they would drop the camera, i don't feel the need for one and it messes up the design of an otherwise pretty good looking smartwatch
@ JarlSX - I'll pm you the details.
Do you (or anyone) know what are:
idle gravity,
terrestrial magnatism,
gyroscopic sensor
well, the 2nd one is probably a compass (magnetism)
the 3rd one a gyro sensor, to measure movement
idle gravity, you guess is as good as mine, also movement sensor?
i've sent Sam a mail, thanks for the info
Hi everyone, Sam force from inWatch here to talk about Z
Hi folks,
I wanted to stop by here personally and chime in on the conversation. I have been in contact with a few of your members and had some great discussion already so thought I may as well do it here.
So some basic stuff first. Both myself and Neo Wang, CEO of inWatch China, have agreed not to sell Z through any other channels until the indiegogo campaign is complete. Any inWatch Z units that you see for sale are a part of the iterative nature of development in China. Batches are made, things are changed, those units need to find a home. Enter Alibaba. Someone buys the prototypes and resells them because we cant stop them and they still have market value, just less. Once the main device hits market, that small value will be null, hence the "good" price. These devices are not knockoffs, they are just not retail either. Which brings us to Z in the present.
Z is currently 99% hardware complete. The firmware is non-final, has some bugs (none showstoppers) and a quick reboot will fix the worst of them (getting stuck on the video recording screen, only happened to me once). The two most visible ones being the standard keyboard overlapping text fields at times (fixable by switching to the other keyboard) and the video being taken in vertical rather than normal horizontal mode. Other than these two, the rest are few and tame. Your watch would be one of the first ten in the wild. When the firmware is complete, an over-the-air push should take care of the update. We just got Swype + Dragon loaded on one and are testing it literally as I write this post (FUN!)
What we are asking from pre-ship international backers is that they back the campaign at $245 to cover international shipping, differentiate you from the other sales and to not use up all the earlybird perks. At this time, please also email me at [email protected] to let me know you are doing so, provide me with shipping details and a place to send an invoice in case we don't reach our goal. If you are inside the USA, back us at $215 and send the above email. If the campaign does not reach the goal and your funds are returned, we will simply invoice you directly. This seems like it will work fine but I welcome any suggestions.
This seems to be a great way to actually get the ecosystem moving. I currently have 4 units available, I will order more if there is more interest. I know two are tentatively spoken for so be that known.
All this is well and good for those four but for those who are just curious and want to learn more in a hands off manner, let the questions fly! If you are really interested, I am happy to skype people as well (I was considering putting my skype on the indiegogo page because nothing takes the place of a good conversation with someone who can actually give you answers. And when I don't have an answer? Thats when I really strike gold. Thats when I get an insight from somewhere, thats when I learn and shape the next device differently.
So this is me, Sam Force, President and CEO of inWatch USA. We thrive on open communication here and know there is worth to be found in including many voices in the conversation around wearables, fashion and how they can meet. I know, I am beginning to sound a little "synergistic" here so I will leave it at that. Excited to be here and glad to meet you all.

To clarify you are talking about backing without a perk, correct?
Also with regards to the device and IGG campaign, I'm guess that if you do not reach goal this will delay the intended release date. You or your team have said elsewhere the device will be released even with full IGG funding? Is this correct?
There is a question about specs for 3G. In the U.S. 1900MHz is the most common and 2100MHz is not used. Will their be different models or will it support both? That being said, if the final product matches what's being marketed then you have a very nice device.
Sorry if I seem skeptic about some things but considering my experiences over the past ten months with funded smartwatches it's hard to not be. That being said, if the final product matches what's being marketed then you have a very nice device in the works.
i'll reply here, as the info given here is the same as sent by email
with my experience with funding projects like HOT Watch and Kreyos Meteor, i will not back another crowdfunding project
the perk here is, you get a watch now, no waiting for IGG
but you pay full price, no matter if the IGG project reaches it's target
on top of that, the software isn't finished and if this watch doesn't attract users and developers, it will be dead in the water
i'm willing to give input, based on my experience with smartwatches so far, but that's where i draw the line, sorry

GV08 Smartwatch for $33.00 USD

I know that the search for a smartwatch is prominent for most, and the GV08 is nothing "new" in tech terms. I found a seller on eBay pushing them out for $33.00 shipped.

Now, I've done my research and wanted to answer some questions for potential buyers:
1. Does it run Android Wear?
No it doesn't. It uses an OS called Necleus RTOS (OS used by Pebble Smarwatches and the Omate TrueSmart Series watches from what I've read) that is more so a single app with multiple functions than an independent OS with interoperable core system processes, etc. (Pretty much the opposite of Android).
2. Can we port AW to it?
No, it only has 128MB of ram and a 360Mhz processor, which doesn't meet AW requirements
3. What does this have that the (insert AW watch name here) doesn't?
Well from my readings, despite RTOS being simple, it can function completely as it's own entity, unlike AW. This watch has a SIM card slot, microSD card slot, pedometer, music player, browser, etc. Etc. With the same "premium" build as gear watches. Though it doesn't have wear, it has a lot to offer, and it pairs seemlessly with Android for texts and phone calls and stuff.
4. Drawbacks?
Obviously, no Android Wear (dead horse officially beaten). Also, because RTOS is sort of like an app, I haven't seen any app offerings for watch faces and stuff, so there's very limited add ons outside of what is already present.
5. Did I miss anything?
Now because it's from China and I'm in the States, I'm looking at a 2+ week shipping time. But I ordered at like 1 in the morning central time Saturday and they shipped it by 3 A.M. CST. I'll be back in the future with a little review of the watch to help potential buyers. Hopefully it's still this cheap by then lol!

The time is synced with data and wifi, same as phones.
When there's no data/wifi or the watch is in Airplane mode then the accuracy is off by seconds. Over time the inaccuracies build up.
If you don't have data or don't bluetooth it you can always adjust the time manually.
Support
Is there any support for this watch what so ever?, cant find a website for it, or any downloads firmware updates ?

Been searching for over 8 months, for upgrades, how to remove shortcuts, how to reprogram this little gem, developer codes, but no luck yet.
But other than that, this watch works GREAT with my Galaxy 5.
BTW ordered a " 1.5Inch ZGPAX S8 Smart Watch MTK6572 Dual Core Smartphone Android 4.4 WIFI GPS", witch DOES run android 4.4
and is almost the same look as the GV08.
where have you ordered your "1.5Inch ZGPAX S8 Smart Watch MTK6572 Dual Core Smartphone Android 4.4 WIFI GPS"?
Do you know if it is possible to connect the GV08 with a bluetooth speaker/headphone?
So you can play the music on the inside microSD on an external bluetooth speaker?
Has anyone bought this smartwatch? Because I have a problem and don't know how to solve it. It's not a big deal, it's just that I can't edit the shortcuts on the tools screen. Can anyone help me?
Texting from watch to phone via BT
Sorry to bump this almost a year old post. I just wanted to ask to those of you who have used it already, can it send a text message without the SIM Card? I mean you received it on your android phone, it pushes to the watch and you can reply straight from the watch.
Hoping someone will answer, thanks!
I bought one too
I have one and the QR code for the BT Notifications app on the watch does not work on Android higher than 4.4. Smart Wear works with 5.0 and 5.1, just upgraded my S5. I screwed up and got into the shower with the watch on. It went dead, I opened it up all the way to the screen and dried it out. It works fine, but make sure you reconnect all the wires. Its a great watch for the price, I paid $58, wish I would have seen your post before I bought mine. http://cdn3.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Mine does not enter the engineer-mode. Also it does not crash when entering the shortcut manager. Maybe it is because I have the GV08 (not GV08s) I don't know but still you seem like a person who dug this through. We should look for another watch that does support something like changing firmware, like the AN1 maybe, which has normal Android built in rather than Android Wear or some unknown OS.

No.1 Watch S3 - New circular Smartwatch by No.1

I recently found a new smartwatch on the NO.1 website which I did not see listed on any shop yet, it's called simply No.1 Watch. It pretty much looks like the No.1 Sun S2 in a more subtle body, but without the heart rate sensor. Additionaly they added a SIM slot and MicroSD slot to it instead. Here's a little overview:

The watch is now listed as No.1 T3 in some shops for a price at 60$ for the end of august.

Seems that S3 change to mt2502 cpu, so it can connect both android and IOS system, that will be great
We have adopted a similar solution, also our Android/Linux watch can connect to Android, iOS and Windows 10. In order to achieve that we had to modify the Bluetooth module so the watch is visible with two different channels, one to act as a Bluetooth headphone and one to act as a Bluetooth device. This is because iOS does not allow any Bluetooth device to connect automatically so some workarounds are required on the hardware profile.
NO.1 S3 MT6260 Capacitive Touch Screen Bluetooth 3.0 Smart Watch Review:
Yes but they are way behind the current technologies. They still have Bluetooth 3.0, what's the point considering that Bluetooth 4.0 has been released a year ago or even more?
I have seen this watch also on an other store, there it is called No.1 T3, but it is the same thing.
By the way, if you are looking for a round smartwatch maybe this one is worth a look:
http://www.gearbest.com/smart-watches/pp_203003.html
It has a heart rate sensor, and infrared remote controller. It is waterproof and quite thin for a smartwatch and costs below 50$. Sadly it has no slots for sim and TF card so it can't be used as standalone device.

Current market trends:
1. There's the Chinese poor quality manufacturers - cheap price and quality. With the Chinese rubbish you know where you stand, you pay less and then after a short time you buy another cheap product and there's no support at all, they copy others people's hard work.
2. The bigger companies (Samsung, Apple, sony.. Etc) that will actually spend more money and time in R&D to intentionally design products so it won't last long, Planned obsolescence (Wikipedia). So that they make more money as a policy. Also massive marketing campaigns that makes you feel yo need the next version, every year. With the large corporations, they very are sneaky by what they say and what they actually do, because it's all about profits.
3. Good quality manufacturers, like some Swiss, very good quality, but expensive.
In these modern era of entrepreneurs, Open Source (3D printers to help with concept designs), online collaboration ...etc there's a middle way, that's the route we should hold on too. The dreamers with a vision, with a lot of hard work. OXY smartwatch seems like those dreamers with potential, there's others too, I wish them all success, as all seem to want to build a genuine solid product, but finance is always an issue, but its doable.
It's tempting to buy the cheapest stuff because it fulfills a short goal to have a nice looking watch that will impress for a while, there will always be a market for these cheap products and for the uninformed that want the 'latest iProducts' who will overpay as long as they have the latest famous brands.
As ethical humans I think it's important not to support the unethical companies mentioned above and give the entrepreneurial who are taking massive (calculated) risks with their wealth, time/life our full support as long as they hold true to the ethical values. ... So nice to have a watch that just works, one that I can pass down to my kids if only for sentimental reasons.

Hello!
Of course I get your point and I truly respect your 'buy quality or nothing'-opinion.
I think this thread is made by (and meant for) users who can not (or want not) spend 300$ or more for an original Samsung/Apple smartwatch. We know of course, that we don't get everlasting high quality products, but anyway we also like to have nice gadets and we can get happy with the cheaper stuff, too. Some of the chinese products also have functions and abilities that the original and expensive devices don't have, like slots for SIM or TF cards or full android system sometimes.
Talking about technology: smartphones, tablets or smartwatches are replaced after a few years by most users, because they simply want something new or better, although their old devices still work. We don't even wait for the 'planned obsolescence'. I think my kids will not be overwhelming happy, if I pass them my old Galaxy S3 smartphone or my old not-flatscreen-TV from the 90s in about 10 or 15 years
But again, I know what you mean and I respect your point. It is just economic and responsible long-range-thinking against trends and wishes for something smart and new.
Being entrepreneur in the field of IT hardware nowadays can be easy, that's true, but it is also an high risk and investment. We started with a Nordic Semiconductor PCB more than 1 year ago and we end up with the PCB of Ingenic Newton2 after 12 months of R&D which drained my personal investment, and I have a wife and a baby boy. Of course with 3D printing you can achieve a barely acceptable prototype and we have one like that but do you have any idea of how complex it can be from there to achieve a full watch case in Stainless Steel including an OS like Android? It take times, resources, communications and a lot of passion and perseverance. If one of these factors lack, your project will die within few weeks. Trust me.
Plus hardware is manufactured only in Shenzhen and Taiwan, that's it, and trust you have to fly there, meet people, speak, give them a try and that takes really a lot of time. For me almost 5 months.
Many times I decided to quit, to give up cause no VC is interested in an Open Source platform and no VC is interested in selling a Smartwatch for 200$ when the production cost is over 50$. But for us, our margin is more than enough to keep running our company and our vision and of course pay out the bills and the salaries.
The dream is to simply give an open platform. Buy our product (Smartwatch, Smartphone or Tablet), which run an open source version of Android. Download the source code if you want or simply download the free apps available on the market. That's it. That's what should be technology in my own opinion . We saw the Ingenic Open Platform and we are one of the first manufacturers in adopting it and I personally believe that is a good platform that can easily compete with WEAR or Tizen.
We also want to deliver quality. Our Round Display amoled costs us 40$ per piece, so as you can imagine we are not giving to customers cheap crappy chinese hardware that last 2 months. I am wearing OXY Square for more than a month now and every day I am more impressed about durability and battery life. But of course we still have so much to do before sitting down and watching our e-commerce getting orders
Of course we will run a Crowdfund in November, but not because we are not ready for mass production but because we need cash. To produce 20,000 pieces Ingenic wants cash and the best way to find 20,000 buyers within 30 days is to launch your Smartwatch on IndieGogo or Kickstarter. It's risky, because the exposure can be massive, but this is what we want. We have a system which is now stable, we have an SDK, two manufacturers and a marketing campaign. If we will succeed I don't know but we are doing our best to break the massive market of fidelity and show to the world that a quality product can be released and does not have to cost a fortune.
If OXY Watch will be a success, next year we will release OXY Phone, a quad-core phone 4G enabled for a very competitive price.
As I said before, I have a mission and hopefully I will find people passionate like me that want to join my train and ride it with me.
meh...
...this is called 'viral marketing' I suppose...
Why don't you OXY-guys make your own thread? Give specs of your watch there and put a price tag on it and then see who cares. Maybe you can tell some fantasy stories there about your struggle and fight against the evil chinese companies and your sacrifice of women and children just to built a smartwatch.
My opinion.

Ticwatch S&E - what is your opinion & More information

Hi guys,
The Ticwatch S&E powered by Android Wear 2.0 will be releasing soon.
What do you guys think of these new watches?
Link to the Kickstarter page: http://kck.st/2h2OqGj
Personally I have good faith in the watch because it is produced by a company that has been founded by ex-Googlers and has been supported by Google.
Pro's:
- OLED Display.
- Cheap.
- With the E model you can swap the watch band.
Cons:
- No NFC.
- Plastic instead of metal..
- With the S model you can't swap the watch band

That's a shame I hope they'll do a better job with this watch
S&E model will use Android wear 2.0 instead of ticwear OS.
For Android user is better than iOS user.
Hi there, i will not buy this watch, because of having the ticwatch 2 onyx black since 1 year. It is running without problems and I use it every day. Iam happy with it. The only advantage of the new one is Andoidwear2, but not more. I hope they will port it on my ticwatch 2 Have a nice day...
Mtk is a killer for many. It is a deal breaker.
Kinda sad how no one is able to top the original Huawei Watch. It came out in September 2015!
I've first backed for the TicWatch S on Kickstarter but witthdrawn my pledge as IP67 is really not enough for me, I was really excited about the TiWact S when first heard of it, but the lack of a proper Water Proofing (not water resist) made go for the Nixon MIssion, of course it's a far more expensive watch but it also is tougher.

i think the lg u2 tops all. and its also from 2015 (ok last rev. 2016)
I just received the Ticwatch E, I backed it on Kickstarter. Honestly, I just wanted to be able to change watch faces whenever I felt like it and it was only $99.00. If you have questions I'll try to answer them.
I just got mine and I love it a ton. It's exactly what I want, which is notifications on my wrist, and Google Assistant in my wrist. I'm already missing a lot less notifications. It's also charging quite fast! Two hours for a full charge at most.
I got mine delivered yesterday (S Model). So far I like it! I have a Moto 360 Gen2 so it's not a huge upgrade but it's more responsive and yes it seems to charge really fast.

Just got mine a few days ago - I will say this - it's worth the $
Hi I have also just received them and I found them to perfectly fit my needs.
I have one question however hoping to find positive answer. As you might know, there is NFC chip on the watch as well, however is disabled thanks to some Android Wear security rules. Do you think there will be a way how to enable the NFC chip?
Having working NFC on the watch would be really nice bonus.
Ticwatch S impressions
I got my Ticwatch S on Thursday last week and I am mostly disappointed with the watch. My main complaints are:
1. The wakeup gesture doesn't work reliably. Most of the time it doesn't detect my wrist gesture and stays dark. Sometimes it needs around a second to detect it and to lit up.
2. The battery life is horrible. It hardly lasts more than a day, sometimes even less.
3. The OK Google command is not working very well. You need either to talk very close to the microphone or try couple of times to make it working. In general I think this is a problem of the microphone, because it doesn't work reliably in other applications as well
4. The watch is not very legible exposed to direct sunlight and it lacks automatic brightness which makes it extra bright during the night and not very bright during the day.
5. There is a rainbow effect around the screen edges, which is a bit annoying
6. I think also that the watch is a bit bulky and a bit on the heavy side, also the strap is made of rubber so your wrist sweats a lot during exercises.
And last but not least the Ticwatch forum is complete garbage. I tried to post two threads regarding my initial impressions and a question about how to switch from Fahrenheit to Celsius in the forum and they never showed up there, which means that the admins didn't approve them! So my advice is not to buy any Mobvoi product!
Ticwatch E compass ???

Have you been able to find and use the E-compass supposed to be built in the watch??
I can't find any compass app in the watch and any I've installed from Play don't work (either with location turned off or on). GPS works well, but compass seems dead or absent?

Hi, don't know your source of information, but to the best of my knowledge Ticwatch S & E use a Mediatek CPU that has no NFC and there is no other NFC built into the watch.
I'll be overjoyed to be proved wrong of course!!

^this!!! I also have the S model.
I am truly much more satisfied with my two year old Fossil Q Founder 1st Generation. There is also a lot of trouble with Google Fit. The values are all over the place. I sent several tickets to the support and haven't received any answers, just a note that the message has been received.
So far a bad expereince. And I thought OnePLus has terrible customer service...

What really drives me crazy about this Ticwatch is that my two threads didn't even appear in their forum. I got a message that they have to be approved by the admin beforehand and then disappeared. I guess they are even censoring their own forum. After couple of days of use with the watch I can report that the battery is lasting not more than 24 hours with very little usage. This is far from the advertised 2 full days. Usually if I track an exercise I need to re-charge it more often.
It would be interesting if someone would find a way to gain root access on this smartwatch. I can confirm that there is NFC and that it is not enabled because the processor doesn't support android pay, but in Chinese version NFC is enabled.
I was a super early bird backer of the S model on the Kickstarter campaign. So far my experiences seem atypical:
1. Got my tracking number and received my watch with no real issues.
2. Battery life for me seems pretty good. As I'm writing this, I am at 30hrs of use with 25% charge left. I have both bluetooth and wifi on, display set at 4 (is that 75%?) , OK Google detection is ON, Always on display is OFF.
3. Wake up gesture is ok, not as laggy as what I have read from others. I'd say it wakes about 90% pf the time.
4. Google Assistant detection only seems to work when screen is on, but i think that is how its supposed to be right? It recognizes the OK Google prompt, pretty well for me, however, I have been told by many many people that I am a loud talker.
Overall, I'm digging it, and am pretty happy with what I got from a $119 investment.
