Updated 4.4.3 unusual event - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Updated my Nexus 10, this morning nothing, blank screen. Hold down power button for 10 seconds and it powered up. I know I left it on last night, as usual. Anyone else have a problem?

Also experiencing battery usage, thinking about going back to 4.4.2

Hi,
I don't quite follow your issue, can you please describe it better? Did it simply turn off a day to another? Did the battery drained all the way to 0%? Can you please be clearer?
~Lord

Doesn't matter now, I tried going back to 4.4.2 and now its bricked. I'm using Wugfresh toolkit. Close this thread or delete.

Anyone else having this issue? I was running stock 4.4.2 and had the same issue after leaving my N10 idle for an extending period of time and the screen would not turn on. Would have to hold the power button down to get it to reset. Finally got tired of it and wanted to start fresh. Wiped data and flashed the latest Omni nightly 4.4.3 last night. Came home from work tonight and once again the screen would not turn on and had to reset. Any ideas?

Also you can see how the battery stats are all screwed up. It has been off the charger for about 14 hours but only showing an hour and 6 minutes and the significant battery level drop

Hi same for me. I am running cm11 and ktmanta kernel with f2fs... since all changed at the same time more or less,I could not be certain of what was wrong. Weird random crashes, device not waking up. I tried removing xposed, then governors, it makes no difference. I found this article on code.Google.com titled 'Weird dalvik crashes since 4.4.3 on Nexus 5'. It may be the same problem, related to bitmap rendering

I am experiencing this as well. I had omni 4.4.2 running with no issues, tried flashing a custom kernel (kt I believe) and started having the issue you described, so I wiped and flashed omni 4.4.3, issue remained. finally "bit the bullet" and downloaded stock 4.4.3, specifically to run a rom with the newest stock kernel. I ran it a day or so and didn't have the problems I was having before, so I flashed the newest omni again and sure enough the black screen came back when I would let it sit idle long enough (usually a couple of hours). Really hoping someone has a solution, don't really care what it is, just want to be back to normal! This is a great tablet and this malfunction kind of ruins it for the moment..

Hi, i may have found a solution... i have noticed that wifi had an option to scan both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks. since i only have 2.4 in my home, i set it to only scan that, and since i did this last night, my nexus has not crashed once yet, in particular when turning it on. i am curious to see if this works for others!

Well just opened the case on my tablet after being gone at work all night and the screen turned right on. Not sure why that would have any interference with waling it up but glad someone figured it out.

Im afraid this did not fix it for me, left my n10 on the charger because it had died because of the issue ive been having, ill leave it on at 70% and the next morning the screen wont turn on and it seems to be dead. Anyways, left it powered on and charging, get home, screen wont turn on. I unplugged it, finally got it to power on, at least my battery is charged. I guess for now i will have to power off every time i finish using it

Hum.... I would suggest proceeding by elimination. You could try for instance to shut WiFi off for the night, and if that works, turn off each background task like Google synchronisation one at a time, this may point to one particular app that's misbehaving. Annoying and tedious, but may help!

Just a guess here try setting the wireless to go off when unit sleeps if you haven't already. I have mine se to this and have never had the issue you are having.

Well try shutting the WiFi off when I last used the tablet. Came back about 12 hours later and the tablet would not wake up. Now I have run into a new issue....it won't turn on at all. I have it plugged in at the moment and when you hit the power button is comes with the battery symbol showing fully charged. My computer won't recognize it since it is off and won't turn on. Any ideas?

Note 3 Battery Drained and Lock Screen Pattern Issue

Hello everybody I just got my Note 3 N9000Q this Sunday. I loved the phone except few things.
Firstly, i unlock my phone via pattern however, it sometimes does not recognize the pattern (it does not even show that red thing meaning i did wrong). Few times it even did turn its screen off while i was trying to unlock my phone (which neans it does not feel i am touching). Other than latter no issues with touch screen. Did anybody came across the same problem?
Secondly, my battery dies rather too quick. For example, 2 hours 27 minutes 10 secs and down to 86% battery (even dropped 1%when the screen was off in around 10 minutes). Backlight (brightness) is at -5 and screen is on for only 48 minutes. Anybody has any idea?
Thank you in advance.

My Note 3 model is N9005. having some battery drain too.. culprit seems to be Google Services on battery usage list
I noticed the battery drain yesterday aswell, google services seem to draw more power than it should.
I read some old threads about the issue (general on android, not on this specific phone) and they recommended turning off location services alltogether in the settings.
I did that last night and so far it has only drained 6% in 4h15m
Amazing battery life out of my note 3 I love it

Disable backup to Google in Backup and Reset solved my huge battery drain. BBS showed that it was continuously keeping the phone awake and disabling resolved the drain.
I have just disabled smart stay and my battery lasted more than 1 day from 75%. Tho after turning quick glance on it started to drain a bit faster (atill better than before).
The pattern thing annoys me tho. I suspect it is something about software. Also noticed a metallic sound on phone calls (time to time) like a metal cable got loose and hitting the ear piece. I will give my phone to service next week i guess and ask for a change.

No. I never turned on battery saving on my Note 2 and it lasted way more than 1 day. Same goes for this guy
Edit: Typo

Can you give more information on how you are achieving this ? It looks like you have smart rotation on too - I got 14 hours yesterday with 3 hours of screen time, but its not enough to last me a whole day. I turned it off today to see how it will do, but as I just posted in another thread, i had a huge problem with the battery jumping percentage today (39% to 1% then to 20% after I took it out)
Do you have auto backup turned off as some of the other people have suggested?

Phone nearly useless - Random Reboots, High Battery Drain, Radio Disconnects

So since like two weeks there's been a thing which bothers me a lot with my beloved Nexus 4 (that I bought in early Sept.): My phone keeps rebooting, losing radio connectivity A LOT, sometimes I have to re-enter the "sim code" while I use it, also the battery drains way faster than before.
I am on stock ROM with an (outdated) TWRP recovery. I have already re-flashed the stock ROM multiple times. Even the radio with no success. Is it maybe the battery?
Does anyone have a solution for my issue? I am really disappointed, before these things occured I always thought highly of Google, Android and the Nexus phones..
Please help me !

If I were you I would get a replacement, RMA the phone by calling Google support and arrange a date. They'll send you a replacement which is likely to be a refurbished device. Just so you know, not every phone that is pumped out of the manufacturing plant is perfect. A small percentage will be flawed. Again. call Google tech support by dialing 1-855-836-3987. Good luck. :good::good:

Thanks for your help. One question: I rooted and installed custom ROMs on my phone before (never had an issue with these). It says everwhere that I lost the phone's warranty by that. Is calling Google for an replenishment still an option?

You need to get completely back to stock and re - lock your bootloader. Google shouldn't give you any problems if you do this. You can look for Wugs Nexus toolkit and it will make it happen for you. It is possible you have a buggy rom. But if you don't think that's it then back to stock, RMA. Good luck!

Well there you go... Have you done the simplest thing. Which is to flash another rom or wipe the current rom and do a clean install? Sometimes you should do the simplest thing first.
Unless they've changed it, to RMA means you'll have to buy another one and then send yours back. Then they credit you for the second one you bought.

Already re-flashed stock rom. Is a clean install considered factory wiping and installing new recovery and rom?
I think I should try flashing a custom rom tomorrow.
Oh well. Sounds like I'm unlucky with the Red procedure. I'm a student and can't afford to buy a new phone.

If it were me and I was having doubts that it could perhaps be hardware issue I would completely wipe everything, get back to stock, unrooted and locked bootloader. Give it a few days and see what happens. Then call Google if necessary.. IMHO.

I have the same issue and I bought the phone on may 2013, makes no sense that a "new" battery drains this way. Started by turning off at 56%, then 60% then 80%, 95% and now, I have to keep it plugged to use it. Lucky me if I can cause it gets crazy by rebooting on the charging scree,n when the phone is off!!! which doesn't let the OS to start. Before it turns off, the radio does..as when you're between 1-2% and u configure it to turn off the radio to save battery.
When it turns off, it does it that way, just turns off..like a black out and resets basic configurations as language, wallpaper, sounds,...
I remember after updating to v 4.3, this issue came on. Before that, when 4.2,... my display/digitizer was replaced because it got broken (which hasn't happened with my ipod g4 that has had more falls than my nexus 4 =/ ) but just after updating to 4.3..problems came up.
This is the worst time ever with an android phone..I'm so disappointed:crying:, n more cause it's not so easy to ask for a replacement when u r not in a zone where the nexus is only sold.
Please help!!! really don't know what to do. Have wiped it many times!! is not rooted and I have v 4.4.2

For what I read so far, I think we're gonna have to replace the battery.
Since yesterday night, I try to turn it on but only gets to the Google screen and then goes back to charge..everytime I do this goes to 0%. Lucky if it starts the OS! but it turns off again..
This phone became so expensive now..

This bug watch thread suggests flashing the 4.2.2 radio, so I am doing that right now.
If this doesn't work either, I am gonna call Google.

Did you try to completely wipe every partition? I just did that, installed new TWRP. img and OmniRom as a custom rom. So far it's working out great. Gotta see how it will go on from this. I'll report back.
Edit: never mind, still happening.

Did it work? I tried many things and definitely, the battery is dead. Maybe it's because of the screen replacement as I've read that to most people on this forum have had the same issue.
I ordered a new battery, let's see what happens and let you know if you haven't decide what to do by then.
all of my problems also.i sent to lg service center(since google dosent do rma here in brasil)and they told me it will take about 2 weeks to get back.since it will need to change battery + main board(witch for me will be mostly a new phone, i already had sent to change the screen and they changed all the up part. so to get a new phone just need the nfc coil to break xD)

Didn't hear from you in quite some time. Decided to order a new battery myself. Worked out great.
For people with similar issues:
I ordered a new battery and built it in myself. It worked out great and fixed all issues. With the new battery all the problems are gone and my phone feels like its factory new. For anyone who wonders what my old battery looked like:

___ BATTERY LIFE THREAD ___ Being raped by Android OS!

Who is having issues with battery here? Android OS is killing my juice! I have gotten fed up and rooted my sheild and frozen most everything possible to try and get the OS down. I will lose like 30-40% overnight. I was thinking it was the shield or nvidia services tied into the android OS but that doesn't seem to be it. Blake_wavelock seems to have a lot of the activity and deep sleep isn't Happing as it should. I haven't tried WiFi off when screen is off and I'm going to use that tonight. I have all the location setting and Google setting inactive. I'm using optimized for battery.
Let me know what you think. I come from a posse of Samsung devices and get great battery life on them.(of course they are all rooted and ROM)

I don't. I actually have frozen most all the gaming processes. So far looks like it doesn't like the WiFi and having WiFi off when screen is off seems to be working. I'm going to keep tracking the battery cycle and see. Will repot back. Thanks for chiming in!

Have you checked under WiFi advanced settings for keeping WiFi off while screen off and WiFi optimization? (Sorry if these settings aren't there, looking at settings on my phone, as I don't have this tablet, but I am considering purchasing one).
Also, is your WiFi signal poor or strong? Because that plays a big role.
I have this happening with airplane mode on. Only seems to happen when I'm home though.
Weird.

Check out today. But haven't been wondering around apps and such. Lol
Yesterday all was well til I messed around on chrome and a few other apps before bed. I was pretty sure I had skinned the cat until I woke up with 2% battery life and it was 35% before bed.:banghead:

Those with bad battery life should check what apps they have installed and use wakelock to find out what's keeping your tab awake over night. I have had many android devices and unusual battery life like many of you report is virtually always due to a user installed app or combo of apps. I get 3 days use on one charge MINIMUM. This is with WiFi on 24/7, and I use it for homework for several hours a day and some light gaming thru console mode (maybe an hour a day). I use a custom power mode with 50% cpu clock, 2 cores and 30 fps. I never take it off this power mode cuz I never see any difference in performance. Il post pics from next cycle.
Yea I'm not seeing bad standby either, battery overall isn't great but OK. I get about 5 hours screen on but most of my usage is android games.

Twice now, I have gone from 70-80% to dead in just a few hours with the screen off. I have a few background apps with push notification (facebook, appy geek, mighty text) but they are all the same apps as on my oneplus one, and it only drains 1-2% per hour. Same with my Xperia Z Ultra (which I had set up as a tablet, no sim installed)

I have the tegra note 7 and this shield. I pretty much just got both about a month ago. I have figured out that the WiFi hardware is not as good as most phones. So it will cause a wavelock and drain the device (which is labeled under android OS). So make sure under settings<wifi<advanced you choose WiFi off when screen is off or only when plugged and not to search for WiFi networks if you don't need. I have also seen that if you root then you can use titanium backup or whatever you like to freeze all the apps that cause harm or excessive battery drain. Also, with root you can use app called wavelock detector to figure out what app is draining you down. I have just about everything frozen except for updates and a couple other services. Good luck report back on what's causing it if you can. Blakewavelock got me, lol.
Here is this cycle from yesterday (still going) What wavelock detector looks like

Having no internet connection, but i'm on wi-fi. This doesn't come from the network i'm using because it happens even when i'm connected to a different one.
My battery life is really ****ty... Plus when i'm around 30%, my phone shuts down and when i turn it back on again, i'm like at 1%.
I'm not root.
I really don't know what to do. Is there any information i can give you that will give you tips on things i'm maybe doing wrong causing my phone to have weird behavior ?
The thing i want to know is if flashing a new rom was a good idea, and maybe if you have advices to give me on roms.. I'd like to be as up to date as possible, and a light rom. Doesn't care about touchwiz feature. I just want my phone to be reactive, fast, and working normally.
Thanks for your answers.
Change your battery. Some posters claim to have lag when their battery are nearly dying as well.

Do you update regularly (Apps & OTA update)?
Try to turn off WiFi & then turn it on again.
As for battery....it's degraded to only 70% of its full capacity.
Usually when it reaches around 40% your phone will stutter + lagging heavily, so make sure to charge at around 50% if you are still considering to use that "broken" battery.
My Advice is to buy a new OEM battery or any good 3rd party battery.
It is a little similar with my 2014 Note 10.1. It also shuts down on its own at right arount 33%. But only sometimes. And yes, it also stutters. I can not vouch for other branded devices. But, I have heard similar stories from friends on their Samsung devices. Definitely get a new battery. Like another post staited. OEM is a great choice. Or, at least a very reputable 3rd party. I purchased a battery for my Note 10. And even though it was new, it was not the same. I found that the circuitry in the cheap aftermarket battery was sub par. The seller sent me a free replacement battery. And it also had issues. So, make sure you get a reputable battery.

Batteries aren't linear though. Its voltage drops off in a curve. (e.g. 4.2v = 100%, 4.1v = 90% and 3.7v = 20%)
Same problem on my 10 months old Note 4 N910C. And it was started about 2-3 months ago, so the battery lasted about 6 months!? Also, there's a burned-in damage on my screen (notification bar)! Yes, warranty is still valid, but anyway... NEVER AGAIN Samsung phone!

Hm... You right about signal. I never looked at this, because whenever I use the phone (at home) and I'm always on 4G internet (unlimited plan), signal meter is on 1-2 bars.I don't know why is signal so bad, when phone is off. Power saving is always ON. About wake locks... I believe that they are from my smart watch (bluetooth),but Bluetooth version on Note4 should be low-power (connection is lost when I'm 4 meters away (in my department)), so... This days I can't reach 2h of SOT (4h-5h when it was new).

Interesting. I'm curious about the power saving if that actually reduces your signal by keeping it in a lower power state. I have never used power saving mode and my rom doesn't recommend it. I wonder if running in normal mode would effect it.
Might look at what apps are using the bulk of your battery as well to see if something rogue is running.

Before Note my phone was Sony Xperia Z and power saving on that phone did a great job. That's why I still use this feature. I also put many apps into the "optimizing mode"... There's no any special app which uses battery. There was Facebook, but I uninstall it.Battery monitoring apps are useless for me because phone is not rooted (still under warranty). Maybe I should try hard reset.

I know it's old thread, but anyway... Last week I finally take my phone to the service, because it's still under warranty. They changed the screen because it was burned-in, they changed the battery (sudden power-offs) and strangely - they changed some faulty system connector. Phone worked and charge befor the repair. I always use only original charger, so how can be some system connector burned??? They changed it for free under warranty, so I assume that it must be some factory fault. I know few people with the same "sudden power-off" problem on different Samsung phones, so...

Sudden huge battery drop

Hi everyone,
I have a huge problem with my Huawei Mate 8.
I was using Android 6.0 without any problems, but as soon as I updated to Android 7.0 I experience sudden huge battery drops. And I mean really huge. For example in 2-3 seconds it can go from 50% to 2-3% and shut down.
If I leave it for 3-4 minutes and then start it again it goes back to normal.
I saw some recommendations about factory reset, so I have performed factory reset on the phone but the problem still exists.
The build number is NXT-L29C432B581
Take a look at my battery usage screenshots. Have you seen anything like that? Do you have any idea what causes the problem?
Thanks

This type behaviour usually occurs when a battery cell becomes damaged. It is then not a software related issue but a hardware one, the solution would be to replace the damaged battery with a healthy one.

to be honest, that was my first thought, but this problem began immediately after upgrading to 7.0. Not a week after, not a day after. Before that my battery was perfect. It was able to last 1.5days with the wifi and mobile data on, and never have this huge drop. I would expect it to have extensive drain before getting damaged, or at least show some signs.

Go back to Android 6.0 and see if the problem persists. If yes, then it is a battery problem...
I'm having the same issue with Nougat in my Mate 8 - battery gets to 30-50% and then drops like a stone - there are reports of this on Chinese Huawei forums as well going back several builds - I have the NXT-CL00 version from China Mobile. I haven't found a source yet for the OEM firmware/guide to flash back to Marshmallow to see if that fixes the problem. Would also like to know if the phone can be flashed to the global firmware for this version rather than having the stock China Mobile version.
As a follow-up, I was able to return to the stock Marshmallow/EMUI 4.0 Firmware via the Huawei HiSuite Application - the download was available through the application.

I've been experiencing this problem for a while too. Did reverting to 4.0 fix the issue?
Switching back did not help, unfortunately. Everyone else with the issue I've read about claimed there was a battery issue and replaced the battery. I have one on order from China. Good luck.
I have the same issue as well...device shuts itself off at around 39% battery power, not able to turn it on without charging. Once it is on, the battery shows only 2%. This is obviously a sudden battery drops.
Can you post if replacing the battery does help? and where to get it replace in North America?

My Mate 8 is 1½ years old. I've been using the new battery for 14 days now.

i think we have soon the same problem.
Did you install the battery yourself or have it made by a shop?
Hi, have the same issue. Changed battery but it didn't help. Well it stoped sudden drop down of battery % but now it lasts like 1-1,5 hr. Anyone have a clue how to solve this problem?
