Hi everyone,
I have a huge problem with my Huawei Mate 8.
I was using Android 6.0 without any problems, but as soon as I updated to Android 7.0 I experience sudden huge battery drops. And I mean really huge. For example in 2-3 seconds it can go from 50% to 2-3% and shut down.
If I leave it for 3-4 minutes and then start it again it goes back to normal.
I saw some recommendations about factory reset, so I have performed factory reset on the phone but the problem still exists.
The build number is NXT-L29C432B581
Take a look at my battery usage screenshots. Have you seen anything like that? Do you have any idea what causes the problem?
Thanks

Hi,
I had the same problem, and it is getting worse after time.
Afterall it turned out to be that the battery was dead.
Replace it and you will be fine and the batterylife is just like new.
Hope that this wil help you.

This type behaviour usually occurs when a battery cell becomes damaged. It is then not a software related issue but a hardware one, the solution would be to replace the damaged battery with a healthy one.

to be honest, that was my first thought, but this problem began immediately after upgrading to 7.0. Not a week after, not a day after. Before that my battery was perfect. It was able to last 1.5days with the wifi and mobile data on, and never have this huge drop. I would expect it to have extensive drain before getting damaged, or at least show some signs.

Go back to Android 6.0 and see if the problem persists. If yes, then it is a battery problem...
I'm having the same issue with Nougat in my Mate 8 - battery gets to 30-50% and then drops like a stone - there are reports of this on Chinese Huawei forums as well going back several builds - I have the NXT-CL00 version from China Mobile. I haven't found a source yet for the OEM firmware/guide to flash back to Marshmallow to see if that fixes the problem. Would also like to know if the phone can be flashed to the global firmware for this version rather than having the stock China Mobile version.
As a follow-up, I was able to return to the stock Marshmallow/EMUI 4.0 Firmware via the Huawei HiSuite Application - the download was available through the application.

I've been experiencing this problem for a while too. Did reverting to 4.0 fix the issue?
Switching back did not help, unfortunately. Everyone else with the issue I've read about claimed there was a battery issue and replaced the battery. I have one on order from China. Good luck.
I have the same issue as well...device shuts itself off at around 39% battery power, not able to turn it on without charging. Once it is on, the battery shows only 2%. This is obviously a sudden battery drops.
Can you post if replacing the battery does help? and where to get it replace in North America?

can you solve the battery[emoji367]problem with replacing battery[emoji367]?
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
I had the exact same problems with my Phone. I replaced the battery with a new (original) battery. Since then the phone has been running like the day I first unboxed it. It's fairly easy to change yourself. It only took me 10-15 minutes.
So for me the problem got solved, replacing the battery.

Hi, have the same issue. Changed battery but it didn't help. Well it stoped sudden drop down of battery % but now it lasts like 1-1,5 hr. Anyone have a clue how to solve this problem?

So I successfully installed Cynogenmod 7.2 but the 99% battery thing is pissing me off. Yes I did use BatteryCalibrator and also tried deleting the battery file through advanced option via CWM.
But I still have the 99% battery thing. Whenever my cell reaches 100% and I unplug it and it goes to 99 instantly too. Any help? I seached almost everything but no help.

pure logic bro...it's 100% when u have it plugged in and then ofc it drops to 99% because it looses some mili amps
if u don't want to see that..just don't use any soft that shows u battery percentage

The same problem here, i tried many batt fix but no one works. It has started since i first installed CM7.2 ( mine is defy plus ). Still keep searching. It's because of the kernel i guess. Anyway to change it ?

Hi guys, I wouldn't accuse ROM or kernel, more I wouldn't bother too much, till I do not have to charge twice a day.
I have the same issues with two different phones at home, different kernels and different ROMs. Though I tried batt calibration and CWM wipe, it does not help. Both phones never reach 100% - go to 99% even if you charge for several hours then.
Sometimes I have 7% drop per 8 hours, sometimes 5% in 20 minutes - both cases only 2G is working (and of course some mess in background ;-)). I would rather accuse some applications working in background. Anyway rebooting helps.
For the case of sudden drop by 15% - do you have any task killer killing your batt widget? Or, may be, your battery widget is refreshed once per hour or so? Just proposals to check. (it is funny when task killer kills your clock widget - might be a lot of fun when you suddnely find you are two hours late. Know such case)

The 100% to 99% when you unplug is not a problem. its because when it calculates the battery "%" it always takes the lower value
Example:
Battery level is 80.9 -> shows 80
Battery level is 99.999999999 -> it shows 99!
that is not a bug
Mine is also having this problem. Jumps from 30% to 20% instantly if the phone has been fully charged. However if I only charge it to 50% it does not jump.

Mine also drops instantly to 99% after unplugging, however it does not seem to affect the functionality of my phone. I got usually 40ish hours with ms2ginger4 and now I am testing it with quarx ics 0413 defy+ build to see what that drain is.
Also every time I install a new rom I use.

Works great for battery charge issues
Well in my case the problems came when I started changing roms frequently ... bought defy around September last year, started the custom rom changing week after purchase ( rom changing frequency was about a different a week ) ... and battery skips started happening around December . .... and from then m always searching for a solution to it ..... unsuccessfully

If you get more than 4or 4.30 H screen on time without heavy usage, thats normal. I didnt see your info about your battery life and etc. But before rooting and tripping your knox, you should send your phone to warranty, they may replace it. Also they may send you a new buggy device too. Who knows..
At the other hand, there are some good guides to root and installing a custom rom. You can easily get it done if you are a good reader.

21H total and over 5H SOT is normal bro.. I see that you are also using 'data roaming'. It sucks the battery bad.. When you want to make it deep sleep with less drainage, you better turn off the wifi(Also Turn off ''Keep Wİ-Fİ on during sleep'' and ''Always allow scanning'' in >Wifi>More.) And change your network mode to GSM/2G which you got, clear ram memory, kill all the recents and put it to sleep. Your device's battery life is normal man..

Thats deep sleep issue in my opinion. As I said before custom kernels fix this. Look, thats mine: %2 for 7.2H:
if you came from custom rom to stock, make sure to flash the latest supersu, because if you dont, deepsleep will not work.
once youve rooted your phone, it should always be rooted inorder for deepsleep to work

Having no internet connection, but i'm on wi-fi. This doesn't come from the network i'm using because it happens even when i'm connected to a different one.
My battery life is really ****ty... Plus when i'm around 30%, my phone shuts down and when i turn it back on again, i'm like at 1%.
I'm not root.
I really don't know what to do. Is there any information i can give you that will give you tips on things i'm maybe doing wrong causing my phone to have weird behavior ?
The thing i want to know is if flashing a new rom was a good idea, and maybe if you have advices to give me on roms.. I'd like to be as up to date as possible, and a light rom. Doesn't care about touchwiz feature. I just want my phone to be reactive, fast, and working normally.
Thanks for your answers.

I have a Note 4 (SM-N910F) running android 5.1.1 (build LMY47X.N910FXXU1COH4) for about 1 year and a half now and i'm so surprised of how the performance have decreased, plus i have some weird things happening every now and then such as :

Do you update regularly (Apps & OTA update)?
Try to turn off WiFi & then turn it on again.
As for battery....it's degraded to only 70% of its full capacity.
Usually when it reaches around 40% your phone will stutter + lagging heavily, so make sure to charge at around 50% if you are still considering to use that "broken" battery.
My Advice is to buy a new OEM battery or any good 3rd party battery.
It is a little similar with my 2014 Note 10.1. It also shuts down on its own at right arount 33%. But only sometimes. And yes, it also stutters. I can not vouch for other branded devices. But, I have heard similar stories from friends on their Samsung devices. Definitely get a new battery. Like another post staited. OEM is a great choice. Or, at least a very reputable 3rd party. I purchased a battery for my Note 10. And even though it was new, it was not the same. I found that the circuitry in the cheap aftermarket battery was sub par. The seller sent me a free replacement battery. And it also had issues. So, make sure you get a reputable battery.

Batteries aren't linear though. Its voltage drops off in a curve. (e.g. 4.2v = 100%, 4.1v = 90% and 3.7v = 20%)
Same problem on my 10 months old Note 4 N910C. And it was started about 2-3 months ago, so the battery lasted about 6 months!? Also, there's a burned-in damage on my screen (notification bar)! Yes, warranty is still valid, but anyway... NEVER AGAIN Samsung phone!

You also need to look at your signal - it is awful and you have some wicked wake lock issues that need to be addressed.

Hm... You right about signal. I never looked at this, because whenever I use the phone (at home) and I'm always on 4G internet (unlimited plan), signal meter is on 1-2 bars.I don't know why is signal so bad, when phone is off. Power saving is always ON. About wake locks... I believe that they are from my smart watch (bluetooth),but Bluetooth version on Note4 should be low-power (connection is lost when I'm 4 meters away (in my department)), so... This days I can't reach 2h of SOT (4h-5h when it was new).

Interesting. I'm curious about the power saving if that actually reduces your signal by keeping it in a lower power state. I have never used power saving mode and my rom doesn't recommend it. I wonder if running in normal mode would effect it.
Might look at what apps are using the bulk of your battery as well to see if something rogue is running.

Before Note my phone was Sony Xperia Z and power saving on that phone did a great job. That's why I still use this feature. I also put many apps into the "optimizing mode"... There's no any special app which uses battery. There was Facebook, but I uninstall it.Battery monitoring apps are useless for me because phone is not rooted (still under warranty). Maybe I should try hard reset.

I know it's old thread, but anyway... Last week I finally take my phone to the service, because it's still under warranty. They changed the screen because it was burned-in, they changed the battery (sudden power-offs) and strangely - they changed some faulty system connector. Phone worked and charge befor the repair. I always use only original charger, so how can be some system connector burned??? They changed it for free under warranty, so I assume that it must be some factory fault. I know few people with the same "sudden power-off" problem on different Samsung phones, so...

The only working solution for now: flash Lollipop. It's not perfect but it heats and drains battery much less than Marshmallow.
I'm creating this thread so that we can discuss battery life issues and look for a solution.
There is a popular thread on this topic but it is marked as solved, and while the original poster's issue has been solved there are many others that remain.
For some people the issue was solved when rootkernel was updated to fix some bug. But that was a long time ago, and some bugs are obviously present even in the latest kernels rooted with the latest rootkernel versions. It's still unclear if the issue is present on non-rooted kernels.
I will create a poll, please consider answering it to help clear the issue.
By the way, has anyone encountered any issues on 5.1, or is it just a Marshmallow issue?
Partial solution: I installed OM5Z kernel and it has significantly improved battery life on Marshmallow.
While it's still much worse than what you would expect from a Sony compact, it's not awful anymore. The phone can go a day (no heavy usage) without charging now.
Stock or Xpower 4 ,rooted or not dosnt metter - i have a drain every night(8-9 h of sleep) about 5-7% in airplane mode.Try BBS and WD now but seems phone sleep good.Think i lost about 15-20% at 24 hours
On Xpower 4 lite as is...with andro kernel v36 same issue. And i dont have any other soft. Goggle sync and other garbage is off.
Dont now where is may be problem.

Try Xpower3, it looks like X4 got more problem. I'm running v3.0 Full(stock kernel), when I set it to airplane mode over night only drain 1~2% everytime but I've installed greenify donated and used xposed amplify.
For anyone reading this thread, are there any other things people can note about their setup?
Country? Carrier?
If you are having issues, what apps do you use? Do you have a microSD card and if so, what brand/model?
If you are not having issues, same question about apps and microSD card.
I have seen on my phone the higher Android OS CPU usage which is of course the black hole of power drain for many people. I still need to do more scientific testing of usaging or avoiding apps to see if anything is triggering the drain.
T-Mobile US customer here, typically on Wifi at work/home also with T-Mobile cellspot for signal strengh. Standard apps for messaging and social media including Snapchat (bad app for power usage) but avoiding Facebook for now. Google Now Launcher.
Stock firmware, rooted stock kernel, don't have issues
1) Z5 was incredibly hot out of the box
2) Wiping the system, rooting the kernel etc. fixed this but gave me awful battery life
3) Installing the modded kernel then fixed the battery life (found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-compact/general/9-battery-drain-overnight-97-deep-sleep-t3382145)
I can stretch it to 3 days with light use, a day of heavy use can put me back 50-60%
I'm from the UK with the UK unbranded official ROM.

Ок i try.
I found software RealBattery and CaliBattery.Try this too.
I have also recently upgraded from Z3C to Z5C with stock Singapore Customized FW, but I live in France (ordered from eBay).
Weird thing is that during the day it loses may be 30-40% in 6 hours, but every evening after I come back from work, phone overheats with battery up to 50 degrees and drains 30% in 1 hour...
In stats, it shows Android OS using most of battery and keep awake being 80% of up time...
I had same issue on Z3C with last 6.0.1 MM.
During the night I usually lose 5-10%.
Any advice?

The problem is that I have E5803, and not E5823...
Will the HK FW work on it? It's only for E5823 I think (according to Xperifirm)
Also, what exactly should I do - I should wipe everything when installing using Flashtool right?
Should I also do reset after installation?
Can I restore my backup or you would recommend to make a clean install of the apps as well?
I don't want to lose data of apps.

Okay, now that I have gathered some statistics I take back my words about significantly improved battery life. It's slightly improved and still awful.
I'm using stock fw, but have deleted about 60-70 apps I don't have any use for. I also use OM5Z kernel. I experience no drain what I know of, usually have about 3 days with normal use.
The only issue I experienced is that the phone totally crashed a couple of times. I can't wake it up at all, and it doesn't take any charge (LED doesn't lid up). I have to use the reset button to reboot it. But so far, it's a small issue

What's new:
Improved camera UI
That's it. No other improvements. The update is 150mb in size, so i am hoping there would be behind the scenes bug fixing. Especially hoping it would fix the wifi sleep battery drain issue. Will update this thread in a couple of days on my findings.

Update: I can confirm that this update does not fix the wifi/sleep issue. Went to bed at 10pm and checked the tablet at 6am. Lost 12% battery. Battery Usage tells me the tablet was awake the whole time and did not go to sleep mode. This is really bad compared to my S8+ which only loses 3% battery overnight.
Still the fix would be to switch off wifi before going to bed and the tablet will only lose 1 to 2% of its battery.
This one lost 5% over sleep but that's still a lot. I'm testing an old Asus Nexus 7 for the hell of it (it hadn't been turned on for 4 years and literally two days ago updated it to 5.1 and just left it to see if the battery would hold). The Nexus 7 is beating the S3 so far. Also have an iPad to compare and that thing can stay in standby for a month solid.
I'm just going to turn it off when not in use, waiting a minute for bootup (plus fingerprint so no having to fiddle with pw screen) isn't a huge deal to me.
Yeah it's annoying that Samsung can't get it right, even after more than a year with several devices running on the SD820 platform. I just don't get how my pixel, with nearly the same hardware, is so much smoother and more battery efficient. /rant
Anyways, I just have WiFi set to turn off when the screen is off. I only charge it once every 4-5 days with light to moderate usage
Idiots are probably not aware of the issue. WTF is there no theme store?? Getting tired of this SAMMY BS.
Download LInk?
Does anyone have a link so I can Download the latest update? Or do I need to remove root and then update in the traditional way? (I would prefer to have a file I can flash in Odin)
your help is appreciated.

FYI - I have a case I keep my tablet in. WHile in the case, I didn't use the tablet for two weeks. Busy having fun with new S8+) anyway, I still have over 50% of my battery remaining. When I open the case, the screen comes on very quickly. It appears that being in the case has helped to put this thing to sleep and I guess that puts battery drain down to about that 2% to 3% your S8+ gets.

Everyone seems to be using the tablet for light duty thus far.
I'm going to chime in and add that I'll be using it for CPU intensive apps. Re: SoundCamp, FL Studio, and other heavy tasks. Don't think this will live up to "12 hour run time" that everyone's oohing and awwing over XD
I wound up getting the battery to about 13% and turned on "battery saver" for the day. It was supposed to last 23 hours. When the work day was over (about 16 hours by the time I got home) it was off. Figured it was worth testing time to complete-off from full charge. No idea when it actually turned off, but the system isn't optimized for this so-called battery saver mode either. Every other device I've owned with this feature has had accurate results (sometimes more), but not here.

What kind of bug? Lost connection? I have this issue on mine s3
Enviado do meu ONEPLUS A3003 através de Tapatalk
The battery drain bug thats been referred to in many places here. Not sure if and when it will be fixed.
The older S2 doesn't have this problem and it seems like the Exynos 5433 with it's 8 standard ARM cores as opposed to Qualcomm's custom 4 cores in 820 (though theoretically faster) handle Touchwiz better with less UI jankiness since both run Nougat 7.0 now.
There is a a ADQC firmware out for a lot of countries including UK, trying that one to see if the Wifi bug is fixed. Why do they delay the US version so much is beyond me? Same story with the S2 firmwares, went to the Germany/Singapore version since US receives firmware updates last, even though there are no carrier delays for the Wifi only versions.
This firmware resolves the issue: http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?record=1D0F4E90377111E7963AFA163EE8F90B ! Confirmed 0% drain over 3 hours on standby would have def lost at least 2-3 % by now.
Look for BTU firmware T820XXU1AQDC if the link expires.

I charge on the weekends. I use the tab to take notes for work during the week.
Currently, I have tasker turn off wifi when the screen is off. I have updated, so I'll try without tasker.
I take my earlier comment back, aqdc still has the wifi drain bug, very annoying. Also, the new ipad pro makes this look like a joke. We need an 8895 in this tab not useless qualcomm chips.

I have a EU LTE Tab S3. It's connected to Wi-Fi continually when I'm home. I lose 2-3% when the tablet's sleeping overnight. I didn't know there was a Wi-Fi bug until I saw this thread. But I do have a Netgear R9000 which is a beast of a router. Is there any commonality to the Wi-Fi drain problem? I don't remember which Samsung phone it was but one had a big problem with D-Link routers specifically.

So it's now referred to as "*****ing" when people are noticing a very clear obvious issue with a device and would like to see it fixed. Amazing. Maybe for the S4 they can just not put speakers on it and we can all be considered "*****ing" because we should all just use headphones?
Anyway......completely ridiculous that there are constantly issues with these things. I TRY to switch away from iPad constantly and there is just not an Android tablet on the market that is in the same ballpark and at this point I doubt there ever will be. I've lost 8% of battery life today already and the thing has been on for like 2 and a half hours, and of that time I've probably spent like 5 minutes actually using it. The rest of the time it's just been sitting there, screen off. Pathetic. An iPad would still be at 100%, MAYBE 99%.
