Auto-Brightness not working - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For the past few days, I noticed that my screen was very bright in dark conditions when checked on Auto-Brightness, so I would uncheck and recheck the box and it worked fine for a few hours until I had to repeat that step
Now, when I have it checked, the screen is extremely dim and not adjusting at all to brightness levels.
As a result, I have to manually adjust it.
Anyone else notice this weird phenomenon?

Try LUX application.
I am not satisfied by the original auto brightness function.
LUX works fine. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53079469)

just keep in mind the application is not for free (although it is cheap), and it consumes around 5 Mb's from the RAM.

Hey bro try this, it's annoying but it worked for me. Turn off wifi, then go to "settings> location & security" and disable "use wireless networks" restart the phone and gps should be working. This is how a few other people have got the gps goin again after the update. it might or might not stop working when you turn wifi on again after gps is working
No issues indoors or out.
D107 changed the relationship between screen brightness and perceived ambient light. Prior to this update, the brightness vs. ambient light was PERFECT. Now, it's too dim in low-light conditions!

Same here and nothing seems to be helping
I'm not having any gps issues. It actually locks on faster than it did before. I got a lock within 3 seconds inside my house.
I just got my OTA for D107. I heard alot of people were having problems that if they were rooted it wouldn't install. I didn't have that problem at all. I am rooted and it installed just fine plus I've had no problems with my paid apps or the market.
What I did was when the OTA came in I clicked on "more info", then I clicked on "Reboot and Install" or "Restart and Install". I can't remember exactly what it was. It turned off, it installed, and then started the phone. Everything works great including the media hub, paid apps, and the market.
Alright so I got mine working. Started Sprint Nav and had it search for something, it came back and said no GPS could be found, backed out and exited the program and openeds maps and it worked. Foursquare is working now too..

yea it sucks .
Agreed, I have the exact same issue, and it has led to me turning off the auto-brightness function...
Sprint Nav used to work fine.
This morning on a 40 minute drive to a photo shoot in Boston, it lost GPS 4 times without a cloud in the sky and twice when it came back up, it thought I was in Rhode Island.
is this what they call GPS Enhancements?

I like my screen pretty dim so this kinda makes me happy... Different strokes for different folks it looks like.
GPS is locking on satellite, however I can only get it to put me within a 30 meter proximity.
The 30 meter distance is apparently coded into the software of the phone so pay not attention to it as it doesn't mean squat.

Light Sensors in Gingerbread

I believe that the light sensors are broken in GB (JVK,JVA,JVB,JVH) all
anyone noticed this?
it goes only from 5 to 5000 if you want to make sure you can use apps such as phone tester to check it.
This is an important problem because it affects the auto brightness settings and other screen settings.
if you tick auto brightness what happens is it increase/decrease dramatically not gradually is it was in Froyo.
Any ideas/fixes ?

Yeah, there's definitely something up with it in JVB, had to switch off auto-brightness, it was driving me nuts while reading or gaming, I noticed it change many times for no reason while I had the phone left down and wasn't using it too. I leave it on 25% now but it would be nice to be able to use it again.

I believe the problem was present in SGS II but the latest firmware (I9100XEKE2) fixed it if someone knows how to port it...
mine goes from 10 to 160 in cm7 but its a jump not gradual. im on cm7 nightly 2.3.4
i hope this will be fixed soon!

I noticed this in JVK but since putting on JVO, I have not had this problem and compass seems better too.

Brightness slider resets to 50% automatically?

When I drag my brightness slider to a diffrent position it doesn't remember the value, after waiting or turning my screen off and back on it always resets back to 50%.
Do more people experience this issue or is it just me?

Try to set it to 100 %, then restart the phone. Worked for me.
I think it`s just the way it works now, they changed it..it`s showing the "right now" brightness instead of always having the same position even if there is diffrences in the brightness.

[TIP] Reduce screen burn in on your LG G5

I had problem of "screen burn in" on my LG G5 and I tried different apps which reduce the burn in for time being but they didn't solve the issue.
Recently I tried "turning off the always on display" and I have noticed that the screen burn in is reduced by 80% I can barely see the burn in previously I was able to clearly see the burn in.
Also don't let your phone get too hot like really hot, burn in is maximum when the phone is very hot.
Hope these tips help you.
P.S. Please try these tips and post replies if they worked for you.
Wish it would help bit doesnt... Since day 1 always on is turned off and the phone doesnt get too warm... It`s the brightness or whatever that causes this
My friend just change theme and after that dont have burn in effect. You can try
I think the burn effect is caused by blue subpixels, so you need to lower the brightness of these. I'm using the built in color control in cyanogenmod but you can use an app like CFlumen or Twilight, Blue Light Filter, etc. I had no more status bar icons stuck.
Yes it mostly happens to me in summer/high degrees also when the phone over heats

I most def wont call it burn cause burn stays on almost all the screens this is never on white black. Just at random times. More like when screen animations are happening
I just use Blue Light Filter (Dev is hardy infinity). I've been using it for the past 7 months or so ..solved all my issues with the screen . If I turn it off, I have very bad images retention. Works perfect. Install and forget it's there.

I'll try it, thanks.
If you are rooted you can set bgr by installing some kernel. If you are using custom rom, you can just set colors in color calibration to 90% (all three). For people with no root, use blue light filter and thats it..

Unfortunately can't touch the NAV bar. Change it to Black color to have less effect.

Use Night screen (Paper airplane dev team).
change to system overlay mode.
It'll cover the whole screen including the navbar

my screen got a really bad case of image retention so i set the slider at about 80% (far to the right).
even with maximum brightness i don't get image retention anymore.
If you reboot the phone it wont automatically start by itself. you have to manually turn it on again.

This is the best recommendation I have read on this issue for a long time. This app works like a charme. Perfect for everyone struggling with image retention on his lg g5. And you even don't have to change the colors. It just lays a mask over your display and that's it. :good:

Auto brightness training

I often have to be very persistent in training the phone for brightness in the auto mode. Especially in the evening, when the brightness slider is to the left of the middle. I set the desired brightness, but it is not fixed. You have to do it 10 times or more, and after a minute the brightness again lives its own life. Has anyone come across this on customs ROMs? Everything was great on stock.

Maybe you don't know auto-brightness can be trained due to users preferences. At least it works on stock.
Or don't you use auto-brightness at all?
I am accustomed to auto-brightness at any time of a day and I like to use it. I don't want to change it mannualy after each changes of circumstances.
However on the custom ROM the process isn't so easy. I just have doubts if it will be successful at all.

There is nothing special to say more here. Just in the auto-brightness mode, the user sets the slider to the desired level at any time. This is repeated a certain number of times and after that the phone remembers the new settings and, depending on this, the new auto-brightness algorithm works. The learning process for brightness is endless. You can adjust it anytime to your preference. In any case, it worked fine on stock and the phone memorized new settings very quickly.

I tried A11, A12, A13 ROMs, and after that I'm on A10 stock again. I think that's the best way for me to keep my nerve sells. Now the autobrigness doesn't even need additional training.
