[TIP] Reduce screen burn in on your LG G5 - LG G5 Guides, News, & Discussion

I had problem of "screen burn in" on my LG G5 and I tried different apps which reduce the burn in for time being but they didn't solve the issue.
Recently I tried "turning off the always on display" and I have noticed that the screen burn in is reduced by 80% I can barely see the burn in previously I was able to clearly see the burn in.
Also don't let your phone get too hot like really hot, burn in is maximum when the phone is very hot.
Hope these tips help you.
P.S. Please try these tips and post replies if they worked for you.

Wish it would help bit doesnt... Since day 1 always on is turned off and the phone doesnt get too warm... It`s the brightness or whatever that causes this

My friend just change theme and after that dont have burn in effect. You can try

I think the burn effect is caused by blue subpixels, so you need to lower the brightness of these. I'm using the built in color control in cyanogenmod but you can use an app like CFlumen or Twilight, Blue Light Filter, etc. I had no more status bar icons stuck.

Yes it mostly happens to me in summer/high degrees also when the phone over heats

I most def wont call it burn cause burn stays on almost all the screens this is never on white black. Just at random times. More like when screen animations are happening

I just use Blue Light Filter (Dev is hardy infinity). I've been using it for the past 7 months or so ..solved all my issues with the screen . If I turn it off, I have very bad images retention. Works perfect. Install and forget it's there.

I'll try it, thanks.

If you are rooted you can set bgr by installing some kernel. If you are using custom rom, you can just set colors in color calibration to 90% (all three). For people with no root, use blue light filter and thats it..

Hello. What about nav bar? I have been using an app called sFilter bluelight app and it clearly removes image retention except the navigation bar, that one you say can help me with this?

my screen got a really bad case of image retention so i set the slider at about 80% (far to the right).
even with maximum brightness i don't get image retention anymore.
If you reboot the phone it wont automatically start by itself. you have to manually turn it on again.

This is the best recommendation I have read on this issue for a long time. This app works like a charme. Perfect for everyone struggling with image retention on his lg g5. And you even don't have to change the colors. It just lays a mask over your display and that's it. :good:

[Android 2.2+][11.11.2011][v1.3] CF.lumen (for Chainfire 3D)

THIS APP AND THREAD HAVE BEEN REPLACED BY THIS ONE HERE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711912
CF.lumen changes the colors of your Android device's display based on the position of the sun. With the default settings, your display will get a warmer tint (lower color temperature) when the sun is down, to look more like indoor lighting and less like the sun, which causes less strain on your eyes and doesn't keep you awake as much.
This is an addon for Chainfire3D, you need to have both Chainfire3D and Chainfire3D Pro installed to be able to use CF.lumen
With the default settings, blue tints will be reduced in brightness when the sun goes down. This reduces how much looking at the screen keeps your brain awake later at night. If you have sleeping problems, you should definitely be using this. Do yourself a favor and install similar software ("f.lux") on your PC as well - it fixed my sleeping cycle.
There is also a full-on sleep mode that runs on a pre-set schedule. By default it shows the entire screen in red, so as to not destroy your night vision when you look at it.
When you want the screen to look normal for a bit (for example for gaming or looking at pictures) simply tap the notification in the notification tray to disable CF.lumen until the next time you turn on the screen.
Additionally, it can also use the light sensor to automagically switch to sleep mode when it is fully dark. HOWEVER, you should be aware that most devices do not have a sensitive enough light sensor to detect the difference between house light and darkness, so this function may not work very well on your device.
Last but not least, a function is also provided to turn off the screen based on proximity sensor activity.

I can't get it to work, because when I click Location it just keeps trying Finding location... I left it there a couple times for 15 mins... nada. (GPS and Network location turned on).
Maybe a simple Latitude/Long field would help?

Works pretty well, except for that when it's enabled, it seems to somehow turn off the fade screen transition in CM7 when you hit the home key. The screen still correctly shrinks, but once it shrinks it just waits for a split second, then disappears. Normally it shrinks and fades at the same time. This isn't a big deal really but I figured I'd post it here in case I'm not the only one.

Still thinking about how to best do that. In the newer Android versions (Gingerbread and up) you actually HAVE to have that icon to make sure Android doesn't constantly kill the background service.
Alternatives are for example to restart the service on a timer, I think I'll build that in at some point.
CF.lumen updated to v1.2
Changelog:
- "Sleep in the dark" now checks for proximity as well as light levels
- "Bright light" mode added, switches to Day mode in bright light even when in Sundown or Night mode
- "Notification Mode" settings added. Can remove notification. WARNING: Doing so may lead to CF.lumen being shut down by Android at random times.
Can you add the option for the bright light mode to switch to night sundown mode instead of day mode? I'm also seeing 7-8% CPU usage with the proximity sensor enabled. I like the idea of this feature for battery savings (example, putting the phone in my pocket and having the screen turn off immediately) so if there is any way to tweak the battery consumption it would be great! Would you be able to have the icon displayed change to reflect the mode it's in? For example a sun for daytime, moon for sunset mode, etc.?
One last thing, noticed that the Sleep filter setting does not get saved with version 1.1. It says Unknown even after you have selected a filter.
v1.3
Minor bugfix release v1.3:
- Minor crash fixes
- Current color filter display no longer says "Unknown"
- CPU usage reduced
- Power usage reduced

I had this issue due to using waze 3-4 hours a day.
Only way to fix was to get screen replaced under warranty. I'm still weary in using waze again though.

Lol why are you providing a screenshot? screenshots won't show screen issues, they're internal images.. ._.
On that note, no "tool" is going to fix this, since you had to open *#0#* to even notice this, it's not a problem - if it becomes a problem and you have warranty they'll change it.
How the hell are we going to see a hardware issue on a software screenshot?
That said, mine appears to have it too in the test menu.. Looks more like something intentional if you ask me. I have had the notification bar set to transparent since day 1. (As such there is no possible means by which it could have burned in.)

An big issue with cynogen 12s

When we reduce the screen brightness to the lowest the screen goes dark completely! We cant see anything!
Again we need to restart and the screen stays on for just 3-4 seconds!
In that 3-4 seconds we need to swiftly increase the brightness or else it ll get off again !
Den we need to restart and try again!
It happens nly if adaptive brightness is on!

You can resolve it by turning off color enhancement in the display option. Its a software issue. If you want to view your screen which is completly dark now, go to a bright place and hold the mobile.. It will be visible.. Then change the settings.

Always On Display bug/issue after latest Firmware update 09.April.16?

Hey, i updated to the latest firmware that came out today 9. april 2016. Firmware version : G935FXXU1APD1/G935FNEE1APC5/G935FXXU1APD1. My Phone is a Nordic Edition S7E with Carrier Telenor Norway.
after the update everything works like it should except the Always on Display. The AoD works but its always on the lowest brightness... it moves around, shows what i ask etc but it wont get brighter when i go outside or shine something at it, auto brightness works fine on the screen when its on. my question is: does this happen to anyone else? this has to be a software bug within the AoS app or the OS itself :/ cheers
What version does it show in the AOD settings ( About AOD)
Version 1.1.14
I guess its a change, this is the version i have. Im on fw PB6
it seems like it does work tho much slower than before, i think they tweaked the sensitivity on the brightness, because before it changed waaaaaay to easy, now it stays on the right brightness for the area you are in, tho if you go from a dark room to a bright room it takes waaaaaaaaay to long for it to change, and when you take it out of you're pocket it will still be on the lowest brightness for some reason... so AoD is now useless outdoors if its sunny out, ill guess they will change it again since i think they over did it.
it is not a problem it is intended to reduce power uage.

iknow that, but the point of AoD is that you should not need to turn ON your display, now you have to if you are outside, since the update rate it so low on the brightness. for indoor use its awesome tho.

Idk about the brightness, mine bases itself off of lighting around me. As for it moving, that is to save your screen from AMOLED burn in.
I have a real problem with AOD, after the latest T-Mobile April security update, AOD doesn't move and it should to prevent burn in. I currently have it turned off until it's fixed.

i know it has to move the issue is that it takes so long for the brightness to increase/decrease after the update when the light changes in the room/place you are, so when you are outside and take your phone out its on the lowest brightness, so you cant see anything, it takes over 20 sec before it increases the brightness. but why there is so many " latest version" of the AoD is weird if you ask me. it worked before the firmware update tho it increased the brightness to the max much easier before, so it used a lot of battery, i think they tried to fix this but overdid it. that is why i'm asking if its happening to anyone else.

Yeah they really should put it in the app store, just like they did with the edge features, but i didnt receive the new updates yet, so im waiting for it
i did a test now, it only changes brightness when the AoD moves for me, i guess that is how it should work, i don't remember how often i did back on the PB4 firmware but it was much more sensitive that is for sure.
latest firmware did break AOD for me too, T-Mobile US. AOD no longer moves. Not sure if I noticed before but waking the screen up now with power or home button, the screen fades in somewhat. It's a very quick fade in but noticeable because it's not instant.
I am seeing some serious problems with the AOD- I even asked for an exchange thinking something was defective. I got my new phone today and it reacts in the exact same way: AOD brightness changes completely at random ie I am not able to see any sort of correlation between how dark/light it is where I am. AOD version is 1.1.06, while the firmware version is PB9.
The other issue I am seeing is with GPS- worst that I have seen until now. I tried it with GMaps and a couple similar apps- the arrow that shows the direction does not move around based on which way the phone is pointing. This was the exact same on the phone that I sent back in exchange for the new one this morning..

2nd screen - on only when there is notification?also question about 360 wallpaper

Hi guys
i purchased v20 few days ago n i m loving the 2nd screen. however, i cant find the settings for the 2nd screen to switch on (when the main screen is OFF) only when there is notification. I can either set it to either ON or OFF all the time (though i realise the proximity sensor will switch it off if it is in my pocket - correct me if i m wrong)
Furthermore, does the 360 live wallpaper drains as much battery as usual live wallpaper?
Sorry for my terrible english, thanks for the help !

I don't think there is a setting for this but there is a workaround to get the effect you want.
1) Set a second screen signature to just a space
2) Set the default second screen to signature when the screen is off
The result will appear as if both screens are off until a notification is received. The only time it is apparent that the second screen is still on with this setup is in a very dark room but this is the closest you will be able to get what you are looking for and will keep battery drain to a minimum.
I don't know about the live wallpaper question but I suspect it would slightly drain the battery more because it needs to keep the device sensors active/working harder to react to your movements.

1) Yes, but it is really only noticeable at night or in a very dark room. Currently, it's the best option available and is only a workaround.
2) I suppose in that case, it probably wouldn't drain the battery any quicker than a live wallpaper would.

just 1 more question - i dont mind if there is still backlight on the 2nd screen - but can it actually save some battery juice by leaving it blank with backlight on? (i dont really understand how all these screens work - i thought only AMOLED benefit from black screen?)

My understanding is that with the newer panels, they are somewhat similar to how AMOLEDs work in the sense that brighter/active pixels will draw more power than not having anything shown.
My limited experience/testing with the phone has shown the same but more thorough and consistent test would need to be done to confirm if it's actually true.
Considering the backlight will be on in either case, it will still consume more than an AMOLED display when nothing is shown.

This is a feature I would love to have...
To activate the 2nd screen only when there is notification. I don't really see a use for having the clock shown always.
Hope some developers will find a way.
Maybe the always on is possible whit the OEM case. Check the video [YOUTUBE]https://youtu.be/PagmYqgNzp8/[YOUTUBE]
