Android Wear Boot Animation for MotoACTV - Other SmartWatches

Many of your likely saw the news of the LG G Watch system dump yesterday. It was pretty exciting stuff. I thought the boot animation looked really cool and I have just got hold of a MotoACTV and thought I should try and put them together.
I have managed to port the Android Wear boot animation from the LG G Watch system dump to the Motorola MotoACTV succesfully and I think it looks really nice. It is running at the same 30fps as it is designed to on the G Watch which looks a lot nicer than the 15fps stock animation. Obviously you still have the Moto logo on the bootloader but I may try and swap that for something neater too at some point. Anyway enough talk, below is link to a video of it in action!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DI5j4ScKt8U
I have attached the bootanimation.zip for other people who want to try it out and I'll add instructions on how to install it for those unsure a bit later on.
Update! - New version with more optimised frames for a smaller filesize and an even smoother animation on the device. Grab the replaced attachment! Also I have created a preview gif as you can see below. The video is still nice to look at to see how it actually performs during the boot but this gif gives a clearer view of the actual animation.
Update 2: - New PNG version! JPG version normally works better on this device though. See post #11

No problem, glad you like it! But yeah this one is designed specifically for the MotoACTV and although it will be compatible with some other devices which support this type of boot animation it won't look good. I could potentially make it for other devices too though I just thought doing it for an existing smartwatch would be a cool thing to try first given that is what it was designed for.
The main issue is that the LG G Watch has a pretty small screen too (not as small as the ACTV) so the resolution of the source images is not that high. I may have to recreate each frame from scratch at a higher resolution to make it look good for large devices which would be very time consuming. I might be able to vectorise each fame and then scale them it I guess. There are a few other things I could potentially try to make it look okay as well.
Anyway, I have the Nexus 4 so I'll see of I can produce something for phones of that display size which still looks good. If I do, I'll post it.

It's up to you!! .. Now I can see how hard it can be to done this.... I like the idea of this boot animation ... but if it takes to much energy and time ... don't do it ....
.. anyway good job!!!!

@IgnorCZ Good news! I have managed to make a version for the Nexus 4! I was able to trace and vectorise every frame to create scalable SVGs of each. From which I can create PNG or JPG frames (depending on device requirements) of every resolution. That means I can make them for any device now. Also, because the Nexus 4 has greater than Android 4.1 I can use C loops in this one which means the loops of the animation work in the same way as you would see on the LG G Watch (which is better than what I did on the MotoACTV as it runs Gingerbread). It doesn't matter so much for the ACTV anyway because the boot time is so low and is pretty consistent.
See a video of it in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jior6pwamg The boot animation is attached here but I am also going to do a separate thread explaining the installation process, how I made it and taking requests for other devices (I shall be doing the N7 2013 next).
I may also make flashable zips for ease. Eventually I'll probably bundle them all together with an AROMA installer zip so you can flash it to a range of devices (choosing your resolution and Android version in the installer).
This zip is for the Nexus 4 but will work well on any device with a 1280x768 display and Android 4.1 or higher. Enjoy!

Nice to see you enjoy it! I have actually found I can improve the animations for the Nexus 4 and 7 (and other future devices) by quite a bit through better optimising the PNG frames in the animation to reduce the boot-animations overall file-size. The result of this is that the animation looks much smoother. I will post an updated version of the bootanimation.zip in the new thread I will create later and add a link to there from here.

The new optimised version for the Nexus 4 can be found on my new thread along with other devices here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...-boot-animation-devices-t2776091/post53236022
This thread will now only be for the MotoACTV version. I have also uploaded a new version of the MotoACTV version in the OP here (replacing the old attachment) which is better optimised as well although the difference is less significant than it is on other device versions as due to the resolution being so low and using jpg frames the MotoACTV version was already tiny!

Quick update
Turns out the PNG frames will work on the MotoACTV however it doesn't seem to load them as fast as JPGs for some reason despite the opposite being true for the bootanimations on most other devices and so in my experience at least, the JPG versions are better (smoother) on this device.
However I understand people's mileage may vary and some people will take a trade off in framerate for the sharper edges and so I have uploaded a PNG version. This will of course need to be renamed before dropping in /data/local or /system/media. You will also notice I have also replaced the preview gif for one with a higher framerate that more accurately represents the speed it appears on the device!

How do you change it?
So, how do you change the boot animation? Do we just flash the attached zip in recovery?

Hi, no this is not a flashable zip. You push it to /data/local or /system/media with adb or using a root file explorer. If pushing to /system/media it will actually overwrite the existing animation so I suggest backing it up first. If using a root file explorer then you will also need to set the file permissions to 644.
For example: running "adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/" should do the trick.

Hey Guys!
Stumbled upon this thread and the fix,
im using Phiremod ACE Sense HD build
The way to push this fix to your device is as follows:
Insert SDcard in computer (through mobile or cardreader)
In the camfix file youll find 3 folders (you can download in the first post)
Ignore meta-inf
Copy the file HTCCamerpa.apk from sd-ext/app_s to your sdcard in the folder:
sdcard/android/root/system/apps
If the folder does not exicst, creat it!
Then copy the contents of the system folder (all of them) to Sdcard/android/root/system
After this reboot your device
WARNING! You are doing this at your own risk!
This "fix" creates graphic glitches on the screen!
Make a BACKUP!!
Camera DOES work
Camcorder DOESN'T WORK!
Goodluck!

Just tested the files using the root folder method and it DOES seem to work very well on the HD2.
I'm using it on mdeejay's Froyo HD 3.7. I'm able to take pictures with a working flash(no green tint). The only downside I'm seeing is that it creates a glitchy affect where horizontal lines appear randomly(but consistently) on different parts of the screen unless there is motion on the screen.
I'm going to modify mdeejay's build and cook the files into the build and test from a clean install and report back if the glitch is still present afterwards.

Hi, people and Devs, some Desire Devs are working hard in camera port to HD and Z Rom.....and they solve the camera issue, We are in, too.
20\10 - Today they was able to run a camera on HD Rom!
I have much hope in their work, and maybe our Devs can give a hand to Desire Devs, to solve this issue......We are all XDA bro.

BlueVD said:
Well, first of all, I've already released the libs and binaries in a previous post (the one with the screenshot, not the video). Right now I'm working on the framework. And it is GPL since most of the things I've done is to recompile allready published source code. What I did modify are some files needed to build the Androis Os (taken from nexus one and adapted for the bravo board), not the kernel and I'll publish them soon. Just so that you know, I'm not keeping anything under "wraps". All the work I've done so far is with the help of google, readme files and comments on xda. Guess than in short it's something in the borderlines of RTFM. The framework is the toughest sob but with the subtle hint from ownhere I'm making some advances here also. I don't want to give false hope, but a release should come soon. It's moving slowly because of my job and the sleep depravation not to mention my old laptop running a dozen tasks and a VM.
Keep you posted on my progress.
PS: video recording might not be able to record sound in the first release (since there's somewhat of a rush to get the photo capabilities). The audio part of the framework will take some serious modding.

Ok folks, another status update: had 3 frameworks so far, 2 fc'd and one didn't do anything at all. Right now I'm having one of my servers reinstalled in order to compile android to produce a custom framework. This one will be compiled with all the required stuff in it so it should work. As to sound recording in the video, chances are we're getting it too! It will take a few more hours to get the framework compiled, but please bear with me.

#4 - New update
BlueVD said:
..... It's the sourcecode for android and I'd have to be darn stupid to post it once again since google took care of that. People can get their source code from there. And as a refference, all mods were done on the nexus files that came with it since desire shares most of the hardware. Geez folks, if you would know a bit of programming you would know that. And since you don't know programming why the heck do you ask for them? Sorry if I sound harsh, but these past few days I barely got 2 hours of sleep per night and all I'm chewing at is the camera, even at work. Have patience, redoing the framework takes some time. Trust me when I say that I'm doing everything humanly possible to get the fix as soon as possible. And if any dev wants to get the files I moded, he can PM me.
And stop posting friggin comments that have nothing to do with devel stuff! Makes it hard for me and the other devs keep track of stuff.
PS: let me make this clear, the existing framework is compiled with different drivers so to say. And the only way to change that is to modify it. I'm compiling a new one to get all the right values for the cam part and patch the existing one since the framework for a nexus would be incompatible with the one needed by SenseHD. If it were as easy as fooling around with a hex editor I would have done it already. And keep in mind that this is my first clash ever with android code. Besides doing the work I also need to learn a lot of stuff on the go! These being said I hope I won't have to read any more mindless posts. And yeah, if any other dev wants to do this step in my place, do tell. I'd be more than happy to give you all I have (and that is sidenotes! Cause the code is already available online). This way I'd finally be able to take a good night sleep
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
[EDIT]: there's no front camera on the Desire Hd/Z. But HTC added the code for one. All I can presume is that they have one with SenseUI2 but no news of that phone leaked yet. Though it would seem sloppy of HTC to make such a silly mistake
Ive jusr noticed that the user asking for the sourcecode was neophyte. Mate, all I did was copy the vision files that came with the official source of android, comment out some lines related to the colors of the trackball and pull the proprietary files out of my desire. That's how the libs got done. All of this know-how came from xda forums. Like I said, there's no special voodoo I'm doing. As for the files, I'll get them online if you think it helps (but it doesn't since they only help with the making of the libs and those are already done and working).

Ok, here are the files needed to build the libs and the framework with the correct interrupts. Hope you guys will be happy with them (like I said before I just copied the whole nexus one files and named them/modified them to suit bravo).
http://wbss.ro/android/device_htc.tar.gz
Prerequisites:
1) A linux machine with a x64 distro (I recommend ubuntu 10.10, even if Canonical said it's not all that stable. Also Mandriva 64 bit should do. I run these 2 distros and both seem to work) OR a windows machine that has a case sensitive FS/Partition (I never herd of such a thing, so I recommend linux)
2) 6GB free space
3) a lot of time
Steps:
1) get the android source (see http://source.android.com/source/download.html )
2) download the file I provided above and extract it into ~/devices/htc (~ represents the root of the sourcecode folder for android)
3) just build the thing. (make -j2 TARGET_PRODUCT=htc_bravo)
At the end of the build you'll find the libs and whatever else you would require... Happy compiling time to you all.

#5 - Big update!!

BlueVD said:
OK people, I will keep my english plain:
WHEN a flashable zip will be ready I will say it in BOLD that you can flash it via recovery. Until then, NO, THERE IS NO FLASHABLE ZIP.
And I'm not yelling, just pointing out what should be obvious.
And now, a requst for someone that has a HTC Leo with gauner1986's HD Rom:
BACKUP the files you will replace first!!! Otherwise you'll have to extract them from your ROM to put them back!
Download the following file http://wbss.ro/android/Bravo_Sensehd_workingCameraLibsAndBinaries.zip and upload the *.so files (via ADB with the phone in recovery) to /system/lib
After that upload the rest of the files (the ones without extension) to /system/bin
Reboot the phone, open your favorite console and run as root (and landscape mode, that it keep the phone upright):
Code:
awb_camera
I need to know if it outputs some text (like camera calibration status, etc). If it does, you should see a camera viewport in the upper left corner of the display. If you don't, just swipe your finger across the display and you should see some flicker in the upper left corner. If it does, good news: owners of LEO will get the camera fix as soon as the Desire one gets it.
PS: I've got a seminar coming this weekend... Hopefully, I'll finish the fix by tomorrow evening, if not, it's up till monday

I love this post (i found this posted by some xda member) NOW that's showing CLASS n RESPECT
There are many aspects to making a ROM; I don't think it's ever been required that one be a super-awesome code-hacker magician to have the right to release one
A ROM is more than just technical merit, there is also a good dose of artistic/cohesive vision, the ability to put all of these components together in the perfect way that makes the entire package amazing. This could be that, so let's not take a dump on it without even trying it, okay?

lol you were sitting on a "JS8" rom for months???
BTW curious to see screenshots, and link too
Just for clarification in case i want to try this ROM, What is it based off, features, and where is the download link... just extra info could be helpful for potential flashers
EDIT: looks like your on top of it
More rom is good , more is good !
change logs please ?
P.S. : Js8 been out less then a month so there is obviously a typo in the OP

CM10-4.1.2- "Nobe"l-laureate (discontinued-get smoothbean now)

(11-8-2012) UPDATE - bug fixes,TWEAKS by NOBE, still needs GAPPS, needs a 350mb system partition, use the dirty-bean method of installation. 5735 on antutu right out of the gate. GAPPS,FACEBOOK, anything else that runs at startup, will s.........l.........o.........w you down, so just kill the startup process whenever you can to help preserve your high score. Im pretty sure these tweaks will find themselves in a themed rom, but I am gonna focus on making paranoidandroid what it should be, and this I would like this one to be handed off to the guy who pimped it out, but of course I will run the builds from my environment if need be. Here is the update for you guys.
(Tweaked)
http://d-h.st/KPU
P.S.- Did you go buy someone from TeamDRH a beer yet? Did you go buy Fosser some "coffee?"
Or.... you can contribute to nobe's "wife needs her own tablet fund"
and go hit thanks on a post from any of these guys.
_______________________________________________________________________________
THis is pure CM10, built from source. It has one modification, and that is forced tablet UI. You will be in tablet mode no matter what dpi you set in build.prop.
It needs audio policy fix for hdmi audio, and probably some trimming. This is for Nobe to do his SMOOTH thing or Black Jelly thing, it is not to be considered "ready to roll" as much as it is for crack flashers or people who want a blank canvas. This is just pure CyanogenMod10 goodness.
I will answer questions and try to help but please dont expect it to be polished and shiny. It is however nice and fast and capable.
Work calls and I have to go out of town for the rest of the week, so I will not have access to my build machine, but I wanted to get this out for nobe before I left.
Please use install instructions from one of Nobe's roms, or of course you can use teamdrh's 350meg setup as well.
I will probably need a mirror if someone could because I procrastinate and havent set up an account at dev-host yet.
Enjoy.........
(Original non tweaked build)

As usual, go find a teamdrh member and hit that thanks button, because you know we got nothing without them.
It wouldnt hurt to buy them a couple of beers either.

so the spec read out from the Gtab is that the 2D, 3D, Database IO, Sd card Write and Read are all faster than my TF201 running HB and on performance mode clocked at 1400 MHZ. I just have one question, does this little guy run choppy when switching apps? That is the reason I am avoiding JB on my Gtab for my wife. She complains that it would take forever when switching between apps. I have also noticed that when opening an app on JB it would take it forever to load. I was just wondering if you are seeing overall improvement on the system.

We run out of RAM on big games, everything else FEELS better than tf101, acer a500, in my experience. Nobe has two different roms, and I have paranoidandroid and this one. Out of the four, you are bound to find one that you like. No stock camera is the other negative though.

I saw paranoidandroid get dropped the other day, but haven't gotten around to flashing it since my wife is busy with her tablet (She doesn't like me taking it away and testing roms on it very often) but I did test both of Nobes and they felt sluggish and choppy. From basic tasks like changing screens opening the app tray checking the play store and checking Facebook... to anything else. I love Jelly bean on my phone and tablet, and I even put Jelly bean on my wife's phone and she loves it. The problem is it hasn't played well with the g-tab yet. I will keep watching though to see what results come of this in the future.
Thank you
Wow... you are a monster!
The gTablet is alive ...again!!!!!!!!!
I got really close to selling mine the other day, now I'm glad I did not. I've had it since November of 2010!
Does this require 350MB or 300MB system partition?
Thank you

As long as it is the Dirty Bean setup. If you are planning on adding gapps then you must have a 350m system for everything to work right.
Sent from The Darkside via Me...
with the smooth version are you going to keep the original AOSP look and feel?
Yes, 350MB on /system is a must: after flashing ROM and gapps-20121011 over 300MB, there was only about 60kb left in system partition, not enough to even update host file.
The interesting thing was, it was running really, REALLY fast and smooth! No lag whatsoever. The extra available RAM made a HUGE difference.
I'm going to try to "trim" some stuff from the ROM (like CMWallpapers.apk is 8MB, VideoEditor.apk and LiveWallpapers stuff), and gapps (Thinkfree is almost 8MB) and then flash again; we'll see if it will flash on 300MB and run stable.
The more available RAM the better!

One thing I did notice: when you insert MicroSD card, the system will unmount the internal sdcard....

Edit:
Ok, so I've tried this rom out now. It's exciting to have something new to play with on this tab. haven't been running it for long.. just looked through (adjusted) some settings/ set up halo and notifications ribbon and what not. played some games (Words with friends--cause i'm an addict/ minion rush--aka despicable me). The games dropped frames... even the WWF animations.
it's all very good and your efforts are greatly appreciated.
i wanna be clear that i'm not in any way complaining. only reporting back a little. overall the rom is sluggish for now. so not a daily driver. but again very exited to have something new in development. and i know already that once you've figured everything out this will be a great rom to have. wish you had source already cause judging by what you've done without it, i know it'll be awesome.
Netflix opens, but would not play-- don't know what it's got to do with but it's just one of the issues i encountered.
and... no keyboard. I fired up XDA to add this comment, and there was no keyboard.
OK.. keep up the good work!
cheers.
Edit 2: so I began to suspect that much of what I was experiencing might have been due to the fact that I'd done a dirty flash. So do a clean install folks.
So I did a factory reset' and sure enough everything is running much much better.

Request denied set up adb properly unless you are saying ums isn't working in windows? I will test on my wife's windows box I run Linux exclusively and it works there, in settings storage menu there are USB connection options you can try if you are having issues.
Thanks for all the feedback guys keep it coming I'll be working on cam today
Alright I have found some odd issues with audio on the 10/8 build. Sometimes I'd get either no audio on some apps (ie: Al Jazeera English Tablet) or really high pitch audio (ie: MLS Match Day). I posted a logcat which I do apologize for its size but I do hope it helps with figuring out what is going on. From what I noticed it seems like both apps are playing the video through Gallery or at least some kind of variant of Gallery if that helps any.
USB for device storage not working in windows but when I change it camera storage it does detect the camera connection.
Also not able to get nexus importer working. Doesn't detect my otg flash drive properly. Nexus importer shows some error message for 4.3
Thank you. Hopefully a easy fix.

usb otg doesn't work in the stock rom because of a kernel incompatibility since I'm using the same kernel it will not work on this rom either.
One more reason why we all need to continue to express our frustration with Hisense for not releasing the kernel source!

was trying to get this kernel to load a spoofed module but it isn't being agreeable first I can't export the symbols via a Module.symvers file then even after I got the release name to match the module it decides to play coy by saying it can't find the module when it is there in the path and I can copy it delete it rename it etc rawr I want kernel source

Thanks!
Really liking CM10.2 on this. Is snappier, better battery and now able to do separate user accounts. Conduit Tegra 3 game also works, which didn't with other custom ROM. No camera or NFC but I don't use those on tablet anyway. Essentially performs nearly same as first N7 but with much louder speaker.
One thing I noticed is that Battery listing shows a bluetooth process as 2nd highest process eating battery (behind Display) even though BT not turned on, yet battery life is not bad.

Nexus 5 HDR+ port?

Since the Nexus 5 has the new "HDR+" mode in it's camera, essentially an optimised HDR mode, would it be possible to port this to non Nexus 5 hardware? Specifically our Nexus 4? I haven't seen any thread asking a similar question or any attempted port of the mode. Some might say it's not worth it, but I personally notice great improvement with HDR enabled on most of my photos apart from the low lighters.
Since a few people tried, and sort of saw improvement, I got some motivation and am attempting my own port. I don't think it will ever be a flashable zip, but maybe some actual developer can convert it if I succeed. I promise nothing, but it'll be awesome if I or someone else gets somewhere
EDIT: I've got good enough reason to believe that the 4.4.1 software update introduced this algorithm already, since everyone is reporting HDR improvements on all ROMs with 4.4.1/2.
Thread isn't getting closed because if I'm wrong and someone has any ideas, I'm open.
dosent that uses some hardware resources witch are not avalaible on nexus 4?
I don't think so, its just an advanced image processing algorithm for merging the shots taken. Its like the GEL launcher, another random exclusive.
The nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus also have no shutter lag, the only lag is really down to the image processing itself since 5 mp and 8 mp shots taken take some time to get rendered fully

Only exclusive camera hardware I can think of is the OIS, but that shouldn't affect image processing since it's just an accelerometer and ball bearings that allows the camera to move around to reduce shaking during video

First, merry xmas all
As the OP suggested, i also believe that hdr+ is some sort of better algorhitm. Hdr taken with camera hdr studio apk on nexus 4 is much faster and almost blur free, plus better saturation.
I have tried to replace camera and gallery apk with those of nexus 5 4.4.2. They work alrite, but generate more or less the same image quality. I tried to replace the lib files also but then the camera wont open, spesifically libmmcamera_hdr_lib.so, libmmcamera_wavelit_so. However replacing libmmcamera_image_stab.so does not cause any problem, yet it doesnt seem to affect the image quality
Replacing some other camera name related lib also do not cause any problem, but their file size are the same with the ones in nexus 4 4.4.2. So i guess, they are the same and no need to replace.
It would be awesome if someone can port hdr+ or any other better algorhitm for nexus 4 camera.

Replacing some other camera name related lib also do not cause any problem, but their file size are the same with the ones in nexus 4 4.4.2. So i guess, they are the same and no need to replace.
It would be awesome if someone can port hdr+ or any other better algorhitm for nexus 4 camera.

Totally agree, I've heard good stuff about the HDR+ mode so I was hoping it could be ported. Thanks for testing it, its a shame its not that easy, although heck this is XDA, there'll be someone with a cup of coffee and 5 minutes of free time who can do it

Not to be discouraging, one post in another thread mentioned that the HDR+ is a cpu feature. I can not confirm this is true or not.
HOWEVER, in another thread about porting the whole nexus 5 4.4.2 ROM to Nexus 4, i found this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48216227#post48216227
Although the HDR+ is not available, but as you can see the image quality is waaaaayyyy better suggesting a new algorithm is at work starting in 4.4.1
I do not wish to flash this ROM since some users reported bugs. Hopefully, others can make a flashable zip only for the camera from this ROM.

I doubt its a CPU feature, its just a HDR mode. The only CPU related task in that is rendering and merging the shots, which our S4 can do just fine.

My thoughts exactly. Looking for a better camera quality solution myself. I hope someone could get into this.
i am not sure whether this will help or not. following this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2558142
i found that the zip contains the following apk and lib:
GoogleCamera.apk
libgcam.so
libgcam_swig_jni.so
libjni_filtershow_filters.so
libjni_mosaic.so
liblightcycle.so
libnativehelper_compat.so
so, i decided to manually replace all the above files in 4.4.2 nexus 4, with those I extracted from stock 4.4.2 nexus 5 plus the gallery apk, and the corresponding odex file (i am completely stock, rooted only). set it to rw r r, then reboot.
I did not do any detail before after comparison because I am doing this from office, sstttt... last day before holidays  still no HDR+ but i do feel: open faster, the color improves a bit. again this is probably purely just my feeling. nevertheless, decided i am going to stick with this for my new year holidays/until another solution comes up. hopefully, it will help me take awesome photos
I am attaching all those files here in this zip file. Unzip and copy manually to the root/system/lib folder and root/system/app folder, replacing each file accordingly. permissions rw r r. reboot. Dont forget to back up your old ones. Please feel free to try at your own risk. Happy holidays all!

I'll test it, see whether it works

and this confirms that... it is just my feeling :silly:
do you think the red glow is even worst in the after? which maybe will give better saturation in case of outdoor photo?
thanks for testing!

I'm not sure, I'll take exactly the same shot with N5 port tomorrow

Can't really tell from the pictures posted since they aren't identical in setup. It takes just that small difference for a camera to change the settings for the picture taken (and the post processing as well).

That's true, it was a before'n'after shot of the stock camera, and the one with ported libraries. I'll look into my own porting tomorrow

Good luck. Always interesting to see how people customize the phones so much. Hoping you or someone is able to get somewhere with this.
