GPE 4.4.3 discussion - One (M8) General

For those of you who had GPE phones(m7,s4, xperia ultra etc) how long on average do OEMS take to push updates? And is it usually just ota? Figure I would put in general for all 4.4.3 comments and questions
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

I just checked earlier and 4.4.2 was pushed on December, 09, 2013 and on December, 14, 2013 it was pushed to the GPE Edition One M7

Update to GPE usually don't come.too much longer after it gets pushed out to AOSP

As much as I love the gpe, the camera quality is a deal breaker for me. Even with 4.4.3

I agree that the camera could be better but all things aside, great battery, supreme build quality fast updates, SD card etc. Camera is a small price to pay. In actuality I find the camera isn't that bad for what it is

Android 4.3 coming to Xperia Z

According to multiple sources android 4.3 is coming to our Z. In this article it stated that it will release in the last week from November.
What do you guys think? Will the update get the Honami UI and hopefully some camera improvements?

Hope it will have honami launcher and camera improvements.
I think they should simply skip 4.3 and give us 4.4, I love the new features,
HTC One is getting within 90 days.

I thibk Sony is busy suing Google's ass to be able to come out with the 4.4 kitkat.

While we are waiting for 4.3, HTC One users and Galaxy S4 & S3 (Yes, S3) users are now enjoying it

I believe that Sony still wait till 4.3 stable just to make convinve, before they build their own, and launch to the end user..

Ha..i can see them "wow look at this nothing has changed I'm so enjoyed"
A lot of people will resent Sony for pushing the Z1's ui onto the Z but fortunately I'm one of those people that are in love with it. I'm already running the Z1's launcher on my Z but I really like the other UI improvements like battery icon and white themed settings etc. Since my phone's relatively new I won't be experimenting with custom roms just yet so I'm really excited about 4.3.
Additionally from past experience with 4.3 (via CM 10.2) on Xperia T it is faster than 4.2.2 so I'm wondering what that would mean for my Z that's already flying through everything I throw at it.

The worst thing was the Honami's camera
I don't care that much about 4.3 as it's a minor change. The thing I'm hoping for the most is kexec kernel. If the awesome devs here manage to get it working - CM here I come. If not - well, it's not a big deal for me.

Moto X will skip 4.3 and go directly to 4.4

via Motorola VP of Product Management, Punit Soni:

We are moving directly to 4.4. I dont like to discuss timing. It just puts a lot of stress on the team, and there is always a chance we find something which delays us a bit.
Rest assured, we are on it. You have seen the speed with which we are moving as a Google company, that shall continue.

I'm somewhat optimistic about it because they were relatively prompt in sending out an update for the camera. Not their fault that some of the carriers dragged ass.

They have broken the applications apart from the os and put them in the play store. Consistently updated their applications. Reached out to the developers in the community for suggestions. Have addressed a new concern of mine with the announcement of skipping 4.3. Saying that they haven't done anything is a bit of a stretch.

I went from an OG Droid (amazing, started my love for android), Droid 2 (meh), Droid 3 (meh), Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S4, now the Moto X. I kind of feel the way I did about the OG Droid with the Moto X. If Moto keeps pushing out quality phones like the X, with fairly timely updates, I'm going to stick with them. Hopefully Google and Motorola don't let us down
This is great news... May keep from buying a nexus 5....but I'm still gonna handle one just to see it and see how it performs and feels. I've been very pleased with my moto X though, more than I have with any other device.

I'm sorry about that. I was reading the thread and my one year old got hold of my nexus and must have accidentally posted. My apologies.

i dont mind this at all.
i mean i don't get caught up in the version numbers per se, but the features.
i honestly am not really sure what is so different about 4.2 and even 4.1 other than it hink some stuff in the settings bar is slightly different. 4.3 added trim support natively but from the anandtech review i know moto backported that to their version of 4.2.2. so that doesnt matter either.
4.4 at least i figure is a big enough jump. before the moto x i was using a razr M on 4.1.2 and honestly i can barely tell the difference OS wise between any of these (and i had 4.3 on a nexus 7 for a while, honestly all the jelly bean labeled 4.1-4.3 variants are basically the same)

Well besides trim it also adds opengl 3.0 support, which every currently retailing Nexus device supports.

Unfortunately not. They don't come with the necessary modem and camera code. I wish it was that easy to get stock lollipop on here, but at least Sony provides more info than some other manufacturers.

don't worry. we'll get modem and camera from jerpelea maybe not tomorrow, but one day for sure

Marshmallow 6.0?

Does anyone know if the S4 will be getting the new Marshmallow 6.0?
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
Official first batch upgrade list already excludes all variants of S4, and since Google excluded the Nexus 4 of around the same age, I think it will not be in.
Don't worry, CyanogenMod is there as long as our device (or similar-specced devices) is popular

At least a month, and even by then it will be somewhat buggy and not every CM feature will be ported. Can't expect much on a 2+ year old phone.

I'm hoping somebody will build AOSP M ROM for it. I looked into it for a few days and i clearly don't have enough exp to try and attempt it. Have tired to do stuff and failed.
