Well if you count 4.0.4 as the first release. Remember 4.0.3 even though I am glad we didn't get it . Anyways I can finally flash the radio with peace of mind.
So this is identical to the latest leaked release right?

The build number is the same so I assume it's identical.
Ha I might go back to stock and receive the update just so I can see what my nexus looks like with a "system update" notification. Lol. Jk. This is cool though, glad that sprint is finally on board.

I'm actually shocked that sprint released it before the galaxy nexus or HTC evo one were released.....
They have held back updates in The past so that they could release an upcoming phone and have the selling point of using androids latest version first in the sprint now network....

Agreed but with this being leaked already I don't think they had much choice. All the non-rooted people would be circling the wagons at Sprint headquarters.

Mmm... I don't think the update is rolling right now... nobody I know or or no other forum is reporting that they got the OTA...
They said it was rolling out over this next month

Hi all,
the nexus 7 is my first nexus device (although I am drooling at the nexus 4 ),
but I was just wondering if anyone else, who has owned a different nexus device, could tell me how long you normally have to wait for the next version of android?.
Thanks in advance

Some of the features will be available on the Nexus 7, some won't and you'll need to get a whole new device costing a small fortune to get the full update. It might break things along the way without giving you a way back.
....but then I remember it's Android and not Apple!

Being part of the whole Nexus line, there's a good chance we'll get 4.2 pushed out when the Nexus 4 and 10 get released. Google will be keen to have its flagship line all under the same version.

I agree. Google made it pretty clear (to me at least) that the Nexus line will be receiving the 4.2 update. There was absolutely no mention of Nexus 7 not receiving certain aspects of the update. I would say that Nexus 7 would receive the update the same day the 4 and 10 are released as well.

This is a joke for you guys who don't get it. All Nexus devices get updated I think. I think even old ones like the Nexus S and all that.
Lol well if he meant it as a joke it didn't read like one. Especially since a new device owner was asking about something he deemed a legit concern. If it was meant as a joke then my fault.

I agree. Pretty dumb answer to someone asking a legitimate question.
Google was supposed to release the 4,2 update on October 29th, but according to Asus it has been delayed ever so slightly.Asus says to expect an update to android 4.2 very soon.

Thanks heaps guys, as long as we with the n7 arnt left in the lurch for weeks after the update comes out on the n4

Got a reliable source on that? I'm guessing no because it's not true. Google has never released an OS on the day it was announced, and when they announce a new device, they never release the OS for older hardware until the new device is available. So the correct answer is to expect the update in the weeks following the N4/N10 release. Hopefully it will be out within a week, but it can take longer.
Google has said they will start rolling out 4.2 from Nov 11th, 2 days before new devices release.
According to droid-life.com:
http://www.droid-life.com/2012/11/1...te-for-razr-hd-and-maxx-hd-likely-jelly-bean/
I can neither confirm nor deny if such a program exists due to agreements I may or may not have made while filling out a form that may or may not exist.
I know that the rumor is Dec 17th but I wonder if a soak test means that time frame will be moved up or not.
I may have received an email this day that may have been similar. Was kind of surprised that they asked if you're rooted and sounded pretty cool with it simply requesting that you unroot before they pick your brain. Never ran a presoak before unless you count washing my car. Usually just grab leaks once they're available but didn't want to grab the recent leak knowing official JB was right around the corner.
Here's to a great phone getting a great OS update!
Hope I'm included in this!....

Any idea as to how long it will be before the soak comes out? I tested ICS on my Bionic, and can't remember how long it was between the time I received the email and the update came to my phone.
They will send out another email when they start releasing the OTA update for the soak test.

When I did the soak for the OG MAXX, they sent a second email saying it was being sent out for the testing phase.
It was only a few days after the invite email was sent that the 2nd one was sent out and, that Saturday morning it was available to install.

if you are wondering if it will get the next version of android - yes. it's a new(er) nexus device. look how long the nexus s was supported.

OMG. Dude, this is just a list of SAMSUNG devices. Nexus devices are GUARANTEED to get updates for at least two years. AT LEAST. You really think Google would stop giving updates to a device that was just release LAST YEAR?
I don't see why some people make such a huge deal about these updates. Sure they are nice to have, but they don't make or break a Nexus device.
I know when it will be released - when it's released.

There will be a lottery, 100 first lucky ones will be upgraded to 5.0, next 100 will be downgraded to 2.2, rest will be switched off and used as cutting boards.

Pretty sure the N7 will get KLP somehow, be it by the wonders of the devs at XDA or by those at Google. I prefer the former over the latter, though. Stock has never suited me.
Wow. It's not like this hasn't been asked numerous times.
Will it get KLP? Assuming that will be the official name, it's likely that it will. The N7 is still well within the support life cycle for updates. Eben if it wasn't, the dev community is more than capable of cooking something from AOSP.
When will it come? Sometime after Google I/O. No one has a crystal ball and can forecast this far out what day Google is going to push the update or release the source.

If we don't get it from google the developers will get it working for us. In about half year I'll buy a new nexus. I think I'll wait for a new nexus 10 and upgrade, I never looked to see if a new nexus 10 was released yet.

There was literally a week's turn around. How can anyone be unhappy with that? Fingers crossed that they keep it up. Any indication on if the update came from HTC or Google?
People are unhappy with the turn around on sense based roms. We haven't gotten one of those yet.
Porting aosp with some modifications to a device is relatively easy, especially if it's the manufacturer of the device.

I was very shocked when it dropped on Friday. My wife's Nexus 7 didn't get it until last night.

yea can't be mad with a 1 week turn around time on AOSP. I wonder what other changes they will do in the sense 4.3 update other than the 4.3 changes.
This is easily the most positive press HTC has EVER received regarding an update. Google/Samsung/HTC did a great job. Let's hope they keep it up.

I'm not making excuses for them... But it is way easier to update the vanilla android experience than it is to do the same for sense. They have to build and test sense on top of these updates. They still haven't updated all the unbranded unlocked devices or developer editions running sense.
Add carrier testing on top of that...
