P600 usual lag after Kitkat update - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) General

I applied the manual Spain Kitkat update via Odin to my P600 and performance seems to be the same as 4.3. Are there any tweaks I can apply for better responsiveness?
Sent from my SM-P600 using Tapatalk

It gets fixed by clearing the ram for me. I shouldn't have to do that though

If you haven't reset your tablet after the update give that a shot as there is a difference...

Is there any way to save my apps without rooting for TitaniumBackup?

you can try helium to save apps without root. But it didn't work with all apps, you need to try...

ES Explorer

When i flash the Spain one from 4.3 throught Odin my apps and everything remained the same as if i just flash a minor update.Even the homescreens and widgets.I was waiting a format(like the i9000 i have) but no.By the way the only stuttering after the update is from the launcher in portrait. With apex everything is superfast and smooth and the tablet ui it has(just tick the box in the options) is very nice.i also saw a 1500 more points in Antutu.

Jpy through kies faster then jpy through odin

I just noticed that upgrading throuh reg hack on Kies makes the phone run smoother than the same firmware while upgrading on Odin.
I don't know if this has to do with using one file in Odin however just wanted to share.

Is it the same file or two different files .
Kies your official network firmware Odin presume you are using a stock non provider file .

Is JPY officially available on Kies?

How did you determine this? Might just be a placebo effect or related to something else you did / didn't do (e.g. factory reset / cache wipe).

Yes. I flashed to it last night. I downgraded via odin back to 2.1. Downloaded kies 2.0 and it came up with JPY firmware. So far so good, GPS is meh, didnt use it enough today though. Ive never had GPS issues previously, through either official 2.1 roms or non official 2.2 roms. Ill test more 2 moro
This is pure bs as usual. When u install a new f/w benchmarks always run slightly faster till u get memory filled up with installed programs.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I don't care about benchmarks. I was speaking of generally using the phone.
The phone is smoother, there is no more lag. There was always lag before even with no programs installed.
However it can be placebo,
I also noticed that after flashing some kernel (for going back to 2e recovery) immediately reappears the lag
The stock 2.2.1 is also smoother to me than Darky rom, however they equal after applying lagfix on Darky.

[ROM][Stock 3.2]][CWM][XXKJ4][rooted + busybox] P7310 WiFi only

Here is a stock 3.2 ROM for P7310 (WiFi) that I built from a system.img and boot.img from P7310XXKJ4(thanks poolguy!). This is good for testing, ROM bases, or for folks that like stock and don't want to flash XXKJ4 with ODIN.
HC 3.2 P7310 XXKJ4
CWM Recovery flashable (system and stock boot.img)
Deodexed
Zipaligned
Rooted + busybox
Added Email.apk from 10.1 ROM
Works great with my v2 kernel for HC 3.2
MD5 ef6dd6a525fda5d5931369b9839cf082
StockHC32_P7310XXKJ4.zip
http://www.multiupload.com/MZ4KY8ZGZ6
As-is...I will provide no support for this stock ROM.
Thank you! Doing a Nandroid backup now and checking this bad boy out!
Edit: Its running great so far. Installed the kernel and OCed to 1.4 (1.5 would shut down half way through the benchmark). 5815 in Antutu. Thanks!
3.2 Not as good as 3.1
Having tried both your modified 3.2 ROM for my GT-P7310
and an unmodified 3.2 version,
I'm VERY disappointed in the results.
In both cases, EVERYTHING on my 8.9 WiFi Tab runs slower.
Superuser problems arose when I tried to run Root Explorer or any
other apps that require SU permission. Updating to SU 3.07
didn't even fix the problems.
Used CWM restore and went back to stock 3.1 (P7310ZSKH4)
with your motley_v1i.zip and everything running fast & smooth again.
I have CPU Max at 1504MHz and Min 216 MHz with Scaling on conservative.

Glenn, after running on this for a couple days I have to agree with you about performance on Samsung's 3.2, although I didn't have any of the SU issues you are reporting. I don't think Samsung has released 3.2 officially for the 8.9, perhaps due to this reason and all the issues they had when rolling out 3.2 for the 10.1. Even though we can get the early update from Samsung using apps like the Check Fus Downloader (where XXKJ4 originated from), I just don't think it is ready for prime time yet. If you look at the Overcome thread, users are expressing the same frustrations with the 3.2 based ROM.
Good news, we have the 3.2 kernel ready to go even though we don't have official kernel source from Samsung.
Bad news, I don't think we have stable 3.2 base yet...at least for the WiFi version...not sure about the 3G model.
I'll probably go back to 3.1 as well and sit tight until we get an official release. Thanks for your observations and comments.

P.S. Forgot to mention that I also tried the V3.2 for 7510 (10.1" WiFi Tab)
which made me thankful that we can reboot into ODIN mode.
What kind of performance issues are we talking about? Mine seems fine. Are those benchmark scores not good? I dont notice any lag that wasnt already there.

One thing to remember about this ROM is that it is deodexed so it will be slow the first time you boot and the first time you run any system applications. After you use stuff once, it will be fast the next time (boot will also only suffer once).
I didn't have any major issues, I just feel that 3.2 on kernel 2a is less fluent than 3.1 on kernel v1i. Stock for stock it seems the same way to me (3.1>3.2), but the overclocked kernel is able to hide performance issues mentioned by some GT8.9 reviews. The difference is very subtle and won't be noticed by most. It probably has something to do with Samsung and their modifications of Android 3.2 and Touchwiz. The benchmarks I ran were the same on 3.1 and 3.2 and I have had no issues with any hardware on either version. In my mind, the issues are very small and unnoticeable by most.
I hope this helps clear things up for you and others that are wondering and experimenting.
Update: I am back on this 3.2 WiFi ROM and don't have any issues. I did two things different this time. First, I wiped data (factory reset). Second, I installed my new updated kernel v2b. While the latter may give some smoothness improvements, it is the former that is likely making the difference. When I did this the first time, I was lazy and didn't wipe data. The ROM install itself wipes cache and dalvik cache, so this was the same for everybody, but the data wipe may have been a wildcard and may have been worse for some due to the settings they had etc.
If you do decide to do this (wipe data and upgrade), you won't lose all your SDCard install zip files, but it will erase system settings (WiFi networks/passwords), email accounts, browser bookmarks, installed apps and their settings. You will boot into a new tab this way and start from scatch. You can use Titanium Backup so you can backup on 3.1 and restore apps quickly. Also, make full CWM backup and you can just go back to 3.1 as it was if you like.
I'm definitely happy and staying on 3.2 now. It sounds like the Overcome ROM is also flying along on 3.2 as well after his last update. Moving onward and upward!

Although I did a complete wipe before installing this one, I still feel 3.1's a bit smoother at landscape and other animations on my tab. I shall wait for another leak hopefully by Christmas. Thanks once more for your efforts
thank you
running 3.2 as well
I noticed slow performance at first which was expected. But then it persisted.
I updated to _motley kernel v2d i think it was. Seems tolerable now.
The huge difference was when i switched to ADW launcher EX. Now its very smooth transitioning from one screen to the other and the application drawer opens nice and smooth. Everything is working as I want it to.
I'm happy with it. :3
Thank you so much!
Btw, is there a better release of the 3.2 rom for the 8.9 tab? Not looking to switch, but I do want to stay informed.

Any idea if there is support for Bootanimation.zip ?
I'd like to modify my boot animation but im not seeing the files in the system media folder. I do see *.qmg (bootsamsung.qmg, batery_charging_##.qmg) which seem to be proprietary format.
I saw another rom that says support for bootanimation.zip and it had me wondering how hard would it be to add that functionality for my tablet.
If any cares to share thought?

I'm still waiting for my P7310 but from what I've seen so far the stock ROM runs /system/bin/samsungani rather than the standard android /system/bin/bootanimation at boot time.
I suspect that all you have to do to enable standard android bootanimations would be to copy /system/bin/bootanimation to /system/bin/samsungani and overwrite the samsungs version.
I will not go into detail on how to create a bootanimation.zip but the most important thing to remember about it is to use an NON-compressed zip file.

[Q] Jelly Bean on N8010 (wifi only)

Hi Everyone,
I have a Galaxy note 10.1 (N8010 wifi only), and I was wondering if anyone has been able to find a good Jelly Bean firmware for this device.
I have installed the Stock N8000 (3G version) on my N8010 using Odin, and while the software works great as long as the screen is unlocked, random reboots occur when the screen is locked.
I don't really want to give up Jelly Bean on my tablet as the Samsung apps (S Note, multi-tasking, etc) are much improved, the improved usability has led me to the decision to deal with the random reboots for the time being.
Is there any way to port over the upgraded Samsung application software (improved S Pen functionality, updated TouchWiz sustem) to the ICS stock firmware? If not, is there a firmware/ROM out there for Jelly Bean that is made to operate on the wifi only version?
I could flash a custom ROM, though I haven't found one with the Samsung apps included - would this be accessible by flashing gapps or something similar (probably not gapps since it's Samsung software).
I would happily stick with the JB ROM I have now if there was any way to address the random rebooting issue, I've tried uninstalling any phone/SMS/mobile network related software using a utility called Link2SD but the random rebooting persists.
I have also tried (per the advice of another thread) enabling airplane mode to that it stops seeking mobile networks, though I have enabled wifi from here to make my tablet useful...rebooting still occurs, though it may be less frequent.
I'm rooted, so if there's anything I can do as root to address the rebooting issue, advice would be much appreciated. I just want to take an axe to all things mobile data/3G related. I'm sure I'm not the only one suffering with this issue here!
Cheers,
Nick
If you read here for about 15 min, you will find all that is needed for your problem. Get setcpu app and set to on demand and no more reboots, flash the n8010 fix to eliminate the phone framework.

Missing Toolbar
Thank you very much for this info, much appreciated!
I have overcome the random rebooting issue, though my toolbar seems to have gone missing! I wiped the dalvik cache, not sure if that's what cleared it out? Anyway, I'll wipe my tab and set it up again to see if the toolbar returns. Thanks again!
Cheers,
Nick

The fix for 8010 worked for me, I used the German deodexed Rom. After you flash the jb Rom, boot in it and set-up your stuff, only after that get in cwm and flash the fix.

Samsung Galaxy Grand Philippines

This thread is for those who own the Galaxy Grand from the Philippines.
Mine has been updated to 4.2.2 XTC. So far these are my expwriences:
1. it has better memory management.
2. battery life is about the same as 4.1.2
3. google play now recognizes some games like subway surf as compatible.
Please comment if you are from the Philippines.
Nice one... a dedicated thread...
Same here Grand owner from the PH.
Still on stock.. waiting for the right FW for phone..and unrooted...
Will be rooting soon too...there are so many mods to try
FYI the firmware marked "XTC" on sammobile and samsung-updates.com are Vietnam CSC. I have not tried the other fw. I had to root then used csc chaner app to change to sun csc. It us not reallt of utmost importance but then it is good feeling to have the proper csc.

did you factory reset and wipe cache after updating? You lose data and settings but you start fresh in doing so.
Right there seems to be worst lag in XTC fw. Might get back to SER Russian rom or Gennxt SER. Indian fw also showing lags according to users.

Hi kabayans!
I might make available/share for download the "rooted deodexed zipaligned" and cwm flashable XTC 4.2.2 I cooked using kitchen. I am reluctant to do so because I may not be able to support it. I am not a dev.

How are your galaxy grand doing guys? My grand has a broken usb port. It can charge but is not recognized by the pc. So i cant update nor root my galaxy grand. Im just waiting for someone to post an update or a root tutorial capable of flashing through stock recovery and not using odin and cwm. In technicalities i would rate myself 9 from 1-10.. so i pretty much know what im doing. And btw for what its worth, using the philippine update is actually ok.. all updates are fluid and good but u need to make sure first that before u update to a new firmware that your device is reset to factory default. And before you install an update, make sure to clear cache and factory reset the device first for effecient and smooth update. How i wish i could update and root my grand.. looks like i need to spend 2k-3k more just to have it fixed. But anyway, if you guys need my help, just reply to this thread.
And for faster and more efficient usage of your sd cards, make sure to use CLASS 10 SD CARDS ONLY.
BNB2 stock rom here. so far no lag issues.
for those of you who are experiencing lag on any stock rom you might wanna try this:
format /sys
format /data /media /sdcard
flash AMF7 4.1
flash BNB2(which ever stock rom you prefer)
I've been using BNB2 for less than a week now. the only issue that i've encountered is the color turning negative. i dont know if it has something to do with the rom or the system apps that i've uninstalled using nobloat app. anyways, it only happened once and the fix is just turning the screen off then on again.

i just updated to this I9082XXUBNC1 >> http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9082
stock 4.1 - AMF7 4.1
again no lag issue. you can also try changing launchers. Touchwiz is really laggy on previous stock roms. Although touchwiz is pretty decent on the new rom, I still prefer nova launcher, much faster.
here is a video on the new rom(I9082XXUBNC1). nova launcher vs touchwiz
Video is a litlle bit slower while using screen recorder.

Steps to reclaim your Grand-
1 - Root the device
2 - Install Titanium app
3 - Download Gallery and Launcher alternatives from the play store...i installed quickpic and nova launcher.
4 - Take backup of Gallery and Touchwiz in titanium.
5 - Uninstall Gallery and Touchwiz in titanium.

guys..is it really that important for notification about OTA updates..its always better to flash full firmware ....and we can always know when there would be an update for the device we are using...through all these beautiful places like xda, gsmarena and et al..isnt it......
