[FIX] Workaround of the latest lagging Grand update - Galaxy Grand Duos i9082 General

The horrible BNB1 update this month has left many grand users with a laggy and slow device. After 5 days playing around with my frustratingly slow device, i managed to set everything right.
Steps to reclaim your Grand-
1 - Root the device
2 - Install Titanium app
3 - Download Gallery and Launcher alternatives from the play store...i installed quickpic and nova launcher.
4 - Take backup of Gallery and Touchwiz in titanium.
5 - Uninstall Gallery and Touchwiz in titanium.
6 - Reboot and enjoy lag free Grand like always. :good:

Hello,
Just follow the steps in this video to get OTA Updates.
Only requirement is you are on Stock rom and it does not matter if you are rooted or not.
It works I have tested it:

Note: All credit goes to Anindya Mukherjee for this youtube video.
Hope this helps. Cheers!:good:

Lag after rooting
Rooted Grand duos recently. But lags even more . Cant even open antutu cpu master to do certain changes in the cpu speed. And i recieve messages saying Alarm stopped, Messenger stopped, UI stopped......etc

guys..is it really that important for notification about OTA updates..its always better to flash full firmware ....and we can always know when there would be an update for the device we are using...through all these beautiful places like xda, gsmarena and et al..isnt it......

does it work on fame

New to GS4 - Couple Questions

My new GS4 should be delivered today! I am retiring my beloved Motorola Photon but am very excited at the prospects of having the best device on the market in my hands. My question concerns all of my backed up apps and games from my rooted and modded Photon. Is it possible to restore them from my saved "Titanium Backup" files to the GS4? Is it better to download the apps again from the play store and just restore the data? Thanks for any help.
most of the apps will f/c, just download them again, and save you the trouble and time.
Thanks for the reply. I will go ahead and just download all of my apps from the play store but my main concern was more about losing the app data. Can the data be restored safely via saved Titanium Backups?
I think this thread should maybe have been posted in the Q&A forum. My bad.
You should have no problem restoring the data using TB, just make sure you don't restore any system data.
On another note, since you will be getting your phone today, I would recommend that you take both firmware updates before you root. The most recent firmware is MF9, when you receive your phone it will probably be on MDC. So goto settings my device and then select update firmware and let it upgrade to MDL, then after its upgraded have it upgrade again to receive MF9. Then you can use chainfires cf-autoroot in the development section to root it and follow his instructions to load a custom recovery. This will save you a lot of headaches in the upgrade process and get you rooted with the latest software on the phone.

Or you could use the Helium app for your transfers. No root required! I was able to transfer all of my apps+data from my E4GT via WiFi with no force closes

When I switched from my tmobile note 2 to the sprint gs4, I used titanium backup to restore user apps with data. Never had any issues.
Just make sure to not backup any system data/apps only user apps

Enjoy the S4. :good:
I got the Photon right when it came out and someone here in our office still has one. It really shined in the short span it was one of the top devices but crazy how much of an improvement the S4 is. First thing I always notice is how much better the screen is and how much thinner the device is. Not to mention moving from GB to JB is huge.

Thanks CC. Yeah, the Photon was a great phone. Still is. Was Sprint's top device when I ordered it. I had mine rooted, overclocked and modded almost from day one and have had a custom CM10 JB rom(Thanx jokersax) on it for most of the time I've had it so I'm very familiar with JB. I'm really excited for the S4 though. Cant wait to get my hands on it. Hopefully today! First thing I'll do after I activate it will be to update the firmware to MF9. Then I'll have to figure out how to root it. Then I have no idea what I'll do as far as kernels/recoveries/roms yet. Have lots of reading to do. :silly:

Try running it with rooted stock for awhile. Maybe even with a custom launcher & kernel. You might be pleasantly surprised at how well it runs. Plus you can play with all the fancy stuff on the phone and see what you like and don't like.
CF Autoroot has been confirmed working for MF9: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2291827

Well, I got my new GS4 on Friday finally! This thing is really nice. The screen is amazing. Hard to believe how much better all of my photos look! Anyway, what I'm looking for is advice on what to do next. I just rooted it with CF Auto Root (Thanks Chainfire) and it went very smoothly. Kernels, custom recoveries so I can run a nandroid backup? What have you done??
I just upgraded from a photon...I restored about 80 apps+data, text messages and call log. I actually didnt have a single issue. Titanium rocks.

To root or not to root

To root or not to root
After my last bad experience and also after reading how some have faced issues after rooting their note 3 I was wondering if rooting has any adverse effects on the phones functionality. What are cons of rooting?
There's bit of lag on note 3 which is really annoying for such a beast.
Any advice would be much appreciated thanks
I own N9005 model from O2 unlocked.

Hmmm....are current roms poor or no improvement?
I've rooted my phone and hence sacrificed the ability to get OTA update from Samsung... but still, in my opinion, it really depends on the user own personal preference. I root my phone because there's a lot of apps that I am using requires root access (tasker, xposed, etc)...
There are currently not too many custom roms available for note 3 yet (as far as i know), better wait for a while if you're planning on rooting simply for the sake of flashing new rom. :good:

But for a popular device like taht i won't take too long
I'm tossing up the same thing and wondering if anyone can answer this question. If I flash back to stock firmware after rooting will device status revert to official thus allowing me to have ota updates again or does setting the knox flag mean I will be system status modified forever?
I know knox flag can't be reverted but what about system status?

Same here.
Although I'd liked to get a good recovery, too. I just rooted with stock recovery, so I can't make a full nand-backup so far. I tried xposed yesterday, but it didn't work. And as long as there isn't a working recovery option (except for going back to stock and installing my apps again vs. installing the full OS including apps and settings), I probably won't try xposed again. But I do miss the "skip tracks with volume rocker" feature.

Which is the safest way to root please?
My main reason for rooting is to reduce lag and install custom ROMs, at the moment their aren't many ROMs to choose from but I'm sure it won't be too long before that changes.
Also My phone is from o2 and they are one of the carriers who still have their ugly logo bootup at startup, shut down which is very annoying.
Also if things go wrong I can still revert back to stock via Odin?

Rooting or putting a custom rom(based on touchwiz) won't probably change anything.

Yes that's true simply rooting wont get rid of lag however my main questions are which is the safest way to root and would I be able to flash generic rom via Odin? It's been awhile since I used Odin.

Ever time I consider rooting I come across post were user bricked phone. This is really of putting don't fancy bricking my phone. However can't do with lag which is very annoying.
Which is the simplest and safest method of rooting?
Not worried about knox my Model N9005 on MJ3 FW, unlocked version from the UK. Thanks
Rooting does not brick your phone. Only users who don't read the instructions properly bricks their phones.
I have been rooting andriod phones since Samsung S2 with no bricks.
Rooting gives you 'Admin' rights on your phone and I want / need that to have full control of my device.
Rooting does not stop OTA updates but you will need to re-root for every new update.

I had the same dilemma. I rooted my Note 1, flashed mods & ROMs, and it was eventually what I wanted. It was, however, locked in that version. I had no time to play with it any more, so left it.
On buying the Note 3, I flashed a stock ROM for the Note 1, got the updates, and it was much better than what I had customised. I guess I had my customised ROM earlier than any OTA update, so did benefit.
The other aspect is a firewall. You can now block apps from Mobile data access (although it is tedious), but not from WiFi access. You can, however, block the access that apps have to your data (although also tedious), so at least you may be safer.
Finally, we have the bloatware on the device. This generation of Andoid seems a bit better behaved than previous ones, and I can disable a lot of the stock apps, which is good. I am not finding any wakelocks (or at least not a great deal), and battery life is very good overall.
So, for me, I would like to have a firewall, but as for the rest of the system, it is perfectly good for me, and I have no current plans to root this device.
What's the easiest way of disabling stock apps such as trip advisor, flipboard, ant bloatware etc?

Unfortunately some of the ones you listed cannot be turned off in the app manager. Many other apps, can however be turned off. Once I rooted I deleted most of the third party nonsense and froze most of the extra Samsung apps.

MIUI for Note 3 - Talk & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I installed the official MIUI 4.7.4 build on my Note 3 N9005, all I get is a black screen after a reboot. I can get to Downloadmode and CWM recovery, so I got that going at least ^^
Things I have done:
- Flash via CWM
- I did the regular wipes and clearups
- I waited about an hour for the first boot, but nothing
- 2 restarts with 30 minutes waiting time for boot each, but nothing
- Installed it again after wiping a second time
The version is for N9005 (which I have), so this couldn't be the problem either. The downloaded file is also complete and not corrupted or anything. What did go wrong?
Edit: Solved. Philz Recovery was required for install.

Yeah, I read that too somewhere. I will report later if it worked with Philz Recovery
Edit: Awesome, it worked!
To anyone encountering the same issue: Replace your CWM recovery with Philz Recovery, and install MIUI with Philz Recovery...then it should work!
You will be stuck in the bootanimation after the MIUI install, wait 10-15 minutes first, if nothing happens, just press and hold the Power-off button until the phone shuts down and restarts again. Then MIUI shouldn't be stuck anymore.
First impressions: Bloody brilliant! Everyone loving a beautiful lightweight Android should get MIUI!
Everything seems to work fine. Make sure you install Google Apps alongside MIUI.
Samsung features: S Pen works perfectly, you just won't see the floating pointer indicating where you are. As it is the first version, it will be only a matter of time seeing MIUI builds with that kind of adjustments for the Note 3 So exited!

Battery impression
@btimeh
The battery life is amazing in MIUI - it was one of the things I was watching first.
I seem to get about 1 to 2 hours more of battery life compared to any of my previous TouchWiz ROMs like X-Note or Omega...well it is obvious because MIUI is very lightweight and isn't filled with junk or features noone uses. MIUI is also faster than anything you have seen.
I am using the stock Kernel and get these good results. And that with the first MIUI version ever, who knows how even better it can get in the future.
Yes, there are some bugs for now, but these things will be fixed soon. For being the first version, it amazes me how good everything is already
Great,will test asap.
I tested the rom and put back my backup. This is close to daily use but for some reason I can't use whatsapp. It will fc and Google playstore does fc as well after you've installed it. Also I keep getting that my system storage is full (even though it's not) still as smooth as ever tho, just not rdy for daily use yet. We'll at least not for me

All Google Apps do work though, which version did you install? I installed the gapps-stock 4.4.2 (20140608), everything works fine.
Your system storage shows to be full? That is strange, I don't know what could have been the cause. I had something like that on some other ROM in the past, I wiped the internal SD card and formatted /system with CWM, then installed again (make sure keeping the .zip files on external SD ^^). It had worked for me.
I did wipe everything. I installed the rom 3 times just to try. I'll wait till whatsapp works in the following update and I'm ready to use this baby daily

[Q] Need help switch from lollipop to KitKat on my NOTE-3 SM-N900.

Hello XDA,
I have tried numerous ROMs/apps in last few weeks of time and very very thankful to great developers of XDA.. (THANK YOU very much).
But I am unable to control my battery drain issues (I thought my battery is old and bought a new one) but still having same issues.
1. Battery charges normally from 2% to 100% in maximum 90 minutes
2. Battery drains from 100 to 0 in 90 minutes while playing games like Hungry Shark Evolution with sound, same happens with some multiplayer games like Ninja Dash and/or subway surfers etc.. (my kid wont stop playing same on my cell)
3. Battery drains from 100 to 0 in maximum 8 to 10 hours with wifi ON.. Whatsapp and Facebook running in background, using phone hardly for 10 minutes in voice calls (incoming/outgoing)
It seems I am unable to control some advanced features in custom ROMs.
I am travelling out next week, and hence want to switch back to KitKat (latest whatever supports my mobile)
Please help me, understand which file to download (how to flash right way), how to root my mobile.
Just explain in simple instructions, learned a lot trying different roms here.. if anywhere I am stuck. I will reply back.
This is my current stuff posting screenshots.
My experience
I have flashed back to kitkat from lollipop more than 4 times by just flashing via Odin without any problems. I haven't rooted my device yet. But I tried the same steps (lolly to kk) for S4 GT-I9500, with the result of "null imei" issue. I think there is no issues with note 3 N900. I don't know how it will become after rooting. If you are on stock Lolly without root, you can simply flash KK firmware via odin.
Thanks vishnu ji.

Planning to buy another right app, to remove unnecessary appz from this mobile. (any suggestions ? i am planning to remove system apps like hangouts, watchon, etc. which I never use but always takes up stuff) though everything is now greenified.
Regards.

AT&T LG G Pad 7.0 LTE Lollipop Released

Hi all,
For those with the AT&T version of the LG G Pad 7 the Android 5.0.2 update is here. Looks to have been released 2 days ago actually. See http://www.att.com/esupport/softwareUpdateArticle.jsp?sid=KB425003&cv=820
My tablet is not rooted or modified in any way. I checked for updates, says none available so no upgrade for me yet. Will post back once I get it. I've upgraded other devices from KitKat to Lollipop and they are always laggy after the upgrade. I plan to upgrade then factory reset the tablet as that seems to work out much better.
Finally received the update. All went well since I as not rooted or anything like that. Not used it for long but seems a bit more responsive. I did factory reset and set up as new after doing the Lollipop upgrade.
Does anyone know a successful root method. I've tried everything with no luck. There's got to be some way.

hi, were you connected to att network when recieved the update?
Yes my G Pad 7 has a valid/active AT&T Sim card in it. I have it on my mobile share value plan.
Is there a way to root 5.0.2? Everything I have tried seems to fail.

Anyone???
No way to root lollipop. I'm back on KK and working on PAC Rom build.
Sent from my D6503
I have the KK source code for the v410. Is there no way to build a KDZ from it? I am guessing there is not because someone would have though of this by now.
I still don't see this update available. Im using it on wifi only, with no sim card. Can this be the issue?
The mobile(SIM) network is used to access protocols(most common is time/date and OTA) that routers ignore. To update go to AT&T and ask for a new SIM or root; custom recovery; flash update.

Hi, dear, I have been looking for that zip for a long time, can you please give me a link of that as you have said there's a zip with the update, But you didn't share the link of that update kindly do please.
As far as i don't have an AT&T SIM and if i would have one i don't live in the US of America so the OTA on the SIM card is impossible, that way i have asked you guys to share a link you have or someone might have seen it somewhere around the world.

I downloaded KingRoot from app store and that does the trick.
Is there a manual zip file or something for lollipop? Att with no sim. No OTA available
KingRoot APK worked for me..took two tries..then I replaced their flavor of SU with SuperSU....I still have not been able to custom recovery the beast tho.. Lollipop 5.0.2..tried to Flashify with TWRP 3.0.0.0 Bumped..I get boot certification error when I try to go into recovery.. But I can reboot back into Stock ROM..kinda got cold feet..don't want to hose the device!

Memory woes
I've been running my v410 with lollipop for a while now and was getting pretty discouraged that apps keep crashing. Large apps like games will crash when a calendar notification pops up, etc.
I used KingRoot to gain root and then SuperSUme to replace SU and remove KingRoot bloat. Mostly to kill ads since I'm running stock with no custom recovery (there are only about 6 apps I use that require SU)
So anyway, I recently installed Kernel Adiutor to take a peek at some kernel tweaks. Low and behold, the default low memory killer settings are set super aggressive! The most aggressive preset available in Kernel Adiutor is still only half of the default values. I knocked it down to "moderately aggressive" and my memory problems are gone (mostly). I'm now playing with the Z-RAM settings to try and get my memory usage to be more efficient.
I was afraid I would have to downgrade to KK to get this thing back to usable. Perhaps not...
