Is it possible G2 can use ROM from G3? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Like G Flex and G Pro2

The hardware is pretty the same, except cpu and ram, that are not a problem for software side
So yes, the rom is 100% fruible, but devs ,maybe, will need to resize thing to match our resolution

I guess the wizard won't be able to get this...

http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/06/is-this-windows-mobile-7/
why not? unless the cpu requirements are massive or v7 requires new hardware then i dont see a problem.
btw whats wm6 like? does the wizard handle it ok and what are the killer features?

Well, sounds like it would need a front-facing camera, some motion detection hardware, and a touch screen capable of dealing with multiple contacts simultaneously, so yeah, not likely to see this on a Wizard. (RTFA)

Xperia X1 running Windows Mobile 7.

Hehe
It gives us a sense of false hope.
Man, i would love to see 7 finalized! itll prolly look too sexy for today's phones to handle
Wow? Frankly speaking, any possibilty that the video is trying to tell us SEX1 is able to run WM7?
Like maybe make a special version of WM7 for those phones without accelerometer?
Well the screen are most probably added in post-processing .. it is a professional advertisement. A lot easier than to install WM7 on device clearly under specs, and then shoot the display so it looks good.
They just take current devices to show in this video
The X1 is off: there is no lights in the hardware keyboard when in use...
hope is such a wonderfull thing ^^
Kinda like the original X1 advertisements. No way the R1 stock ROMs were as fast as those shown on the videos.

I don't really think WM7 will be too advanced for the X1, but please don't expect an OEM upgrade.
Minimum specs for WM7 contains 1GHz CPU, g-meter and compass (IIRC). Xperia is clearly not WM7 compatible.

you can say that again, im more satisfied with my rom than the stock R3A
to Dr sid :
Really ??? that doesnt seem to make much sense ... i mean why should be the accelerometer a dependence or even more the digital compass ... they are almost useless features. one for auto rotation and the other for navigation.
about the speed ... hmm im not sure that MHz make incompatibility ... maybe the ram size can be a problem but the Mhz ... a pc can work slower or faster ... but it works in most cases, it seems extreme to go just from wm 6.5 to wm 7 ... and require double processor speed. this has never happened in any wm upgrade ... there are so many old devices running fine with wm 6.5 ... kaiser for example which has even resoultion 320x240 and came out with wm 5... so to me Xperia will be able to run wm 7 ... and i have to agree anyway that the Xperia in the adertisment is tottally turned off ....
a phone with a 1ghz processor!?
I will buy a new phone when they come out with dual core for it
Look, it doesn't matter if its going to require an accelerometer or a compass... while it'll be nice to have, there's a 99% chance that it'll get ported over for WM6.0-6.5 devices, maybe with one or two features missing. Touchflo was never supposed to run on the kaiser, let alone titanium... that phone is a great example of 3 generations of windows mobile upgrades... our devices won't be any different. I'm planning on my topaz and raphael to be running WM7 when the big day comes

Porting Android >1.5 to T-Mobile Pulse

Hey Android hackers,
I would have an idea, and would like to ask for confirmation(or info).
So the T-Mobile Pulse has the same chipset and everything as the Magic (Qualcomm MSM7200A), what includes the wifi, gps, camera and who knows what else. We have ROM's for Magic, so my idea would be if we could use the drivers from the Magic's rom and build a kernel with the proprietary drivers for Pulse.
My questions:
-Is this possible?
-How can i start playing with the kernel compiling (I have Ubuntu 9.10)
-Witch rom should i use for driver extraction?
-else what i should be aware
Thanks,
Chronos
Did you forget about the screen size of pulse?
it has 3.5" which is higher than MT3G/Magic and plus pulse will be getting 2.0 update so wait a while.
They have the same resolution, physical size doesent matter ifiak.
I'd be interested to know too... why wait for official?
We have Android on WM based phones with working drivers so surely it's possible get the Pulse upgraded?
Would be nice to get a Pulse forum here at XDA-Devs but I don't see that happening

Uhh no it doesnt
Magic has: 3.2" screen
Pulse has : 3.5" screen
Res for both are same but you should wait for pulse to get 2.1 update later this year.

The size of the physical screen doesn't make a bit of difference. The resolution is the same. Just as the Liquid has a 3.5" screen and the Nexus has a 3.7". . . they're both still 480x800 resolution.

Is another big firmware update coming soon? According to G Flex 2 photos - yes!

Hey guys!
I was very disappointed with the G3's Lollipop because it seemed exactly like Kitkat but with a few feature of the Lollipop.
System apps changed nothing, soft keys are the same, etc. It was a really messy and ugly job from LG.
But if you check out the video and the photos on The Verge you can see that the G Flex 2 has Lollipop - but with the new Lollipop styled buttons - even in the camera app.
http://www.theverge.com/2015/1/5/7493067/lg-g-flex-2-hands-on-preview-ces-2015
It's logical to assume that we will have the same look and update on our G3s too, right?
i was about to ask the same question , the first thing i noticed about the G flex 2 was the Lollipop Softkeys
i hope LG Update our G3 With this softkeys soon
Just for the record, the G Flex 2 is an absolute BEAST! I skipped the G3 cause of the S801 with the QHD display but I'm so getting the flex 2.

Yeah, nice specs, would have been cool if it was QHD but should make little difference. Also hoping that refreshed software build comes to our G3 also - would be nice !

I prefer the look of the G3 and the QHD - but if they won't update the firmware I will jump to G Flex 2.
If not I will wait for G4. (Or G5, who knows? G2 is still a beast!)
After seeing this - I might be wrong.
System apps seems unchanged in this video - only the soft buttons are changed.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkAjp8i9_Co
If you check out - the 'three dot' menu is still the old square-y one not the Lollipop circle one.

What are you running on your G3 currently? I'm running the current official from Illusion and it's a great ROM, far better and much different than anything KK I've ever used. BTW, the softkeys look exactly like the ones in the Flex2 review.

I'm running the original stock firmware.
I did not tried any non-official roms but I might change my mind in the near future after my experience with LG's Lollipop!
Have any of the other manufacturers made any major changes for their lollipop update? I doubt it tbh. The update looked exactly as I expected I imagine its similar for Samsung and the like keeping touchwiz the same and probably HTC unless they have made changes to sense apart from maybe on new devices
I'd suppose the next update will be to fix the lollipop memory leak 5.0.3 or whatever they number it

Even Samsung revamped system apps completely!
It's true that it was way older and more ugly, but still they changed the system apps and look completely.
I don't know anything about HTC yet.
I'm a little surprised a lot of manufacturers get a little lazy about that and when you expect change with a new android version you get minimal if any usually

WUT? Their dialer looks completely the same as it looked in 2.3 GBread. Only flattened a bit
So LG's UI is still MOST conforming to Lollipop's guidelines UI as of now

Screen resolution change ?

I see that samsungs and v30 got the option to change screen resolution to save battery. Is that option in the G6? (I currently got an LG G2 and want to upgrade)
No all we got is the option to change the acpect ratios for the apps

That's exactly why Im asking. Its a shame if you cant tune down the resolution and loose performance. Perhaps a custom rom may steal that function from the v30 now that is released.
My LG G2 never get hot. I wonder why new cellphones got this problem.
Yeh my phone geta hot after 15 min and loose fps....almost to unplayable state.... I need underclock cpu or lower resolution.... To keep it little more cool

Just tried the otpion from battery settings...game battery saver..custom. And for the game i play (mobile legends) i lovered resolution to minimum and i lovered the fps as well.. Its much much better.... But will test it more... It says resolution lovered .... So i asume it must be doing something... As i am sure we cant notice 2k and 1080p drop on such a small screen....but cpu should stay cooler... Test it as well and let me know how you get on...please
Note i launch the game from the menu itself...by choosing option play....

I think that only works with 3d applications but not affect daily use in wich the cpu/gpu need to move full screen resolution.

I still dont own the phone so cant test it but see a few videos/reviews about it and it render games at lower resolution. But only that, games, so all other drawing functions from normal aplications are not afected. It works as intended and indeed it help a lot in fast demanding games (like racing, shooters ,etc)
Yes like you said...did today hevay gaming over 1 hour.... No heat like before....warm yes...but no even close to it.... The resolution is noticeably lower..but i went to max fps and min res....
Defo a good feature...better then lower all res....
Cheers
I havent had any heating issues with g6. But resolution change would a thing nice to see with oreo update.

I bet we gonna get this in oreo update
https://goo.gl/UKaif3 This will help for the resolution but you have to be rooted
Oreo should bring resolution change option.
Non-rooted option: search Google for adb shell wm size and adb shell wm density commands. I haven't tried the size command but density gave me little bit nicer look and feel.
Bit of an old thread, but right now I'm running this res for better game performance:
adb shell
wm size 1080x2160
wm density 480
Notice that this causes the viewfinder in the stock camera app to be zoomed in and you won't be able to see the full image being captured. But I use the ported Google Camera which doesn't suffer from the problem.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g6/how-to/guide-best-battery-life-t3735720
here it is step by step with example for our loved G6... I didn't try it tho, and if you do, do it at your own risk!
can't wait to see if any of you isn't such coward, tries it, and tell us that it makes wonders for battery and heating....
edit: found the post here on XDA with the step-by-step guide!! give it a try someone!
