Milestone dead/power issues

Recently my phone was acting weird, the phone wouldn't charge in USB mode, and when I disconnected the cable it still thought it was in USB mode, the next day it went from a full charge to off in a few hours. After then it refused to charge, with the side light blinking. It sent off for a repair/replacement to the place I bought it from clove technology.
Just wondering if any one has had this problem, or has ever dealt with clove and their experience when dealing with them.

I had a similar problem. I notice a lot of people here are having such issues...
I my case the solution was to keep the charger connected for about 5/6 hours, after which the battery was charged 5%. After that it took a few more hours to be completely charged, but since then there were no problems.

My unit is bought from Clove also but is working well. Mine is UK unit.

5/6 hours, wow that's determination, i think i charged it for 2 hours before sending it off to the place i bought it from.

I bought mine from an authorized dealer in malaysia, and I had the same problem. The charge light was blinking in rapid motion, and the phone failed to charge. Upon replacing the part, they noticed a problem with a component on the motherboard thats draining too much power. They gave me a new unit there after. Touch wood no problems with that. Some searching around got me to notice these problems have plagued the milestone range eversince, n motorola hasn't rectified it yet

Rant: Second Replacement

So, I just replaced my second Epic due to the charger port going out and no longer charging on the phone. I knew it was happening Saturday because the symptoms were the same as before. The phone thought it was charging and even counted up, but as soon as it was unplugged, it dropped faster than normal, or a restart made it *reset* to the actual phone battery level.
Today, it would not even recognize the charger at all. Luckily, Sprint had a replacement for me in-store this time, so no week wait.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I think mine is going bad too. Sometimes it charges and sometimes it doesn't ... did they charge you to replace your phone? How long you've had it for?

I bought mine pre-order and picked it up the day it came out from Best Buy. My first replacement was right at the one year mark. This last one didn't last a year, but since it's refurbished, there's no way to tell how much wear there may have already been on the port.
I have insurance through Sprint, there was no charge.

[Q] Phone Won't Charge - Gets Extremely Hot When I Try

So all this happened sometime during the night of 7/1 & morning of 7/2. I noticed when my alarm went off on my phone, my phone was EXTREMELY HOT. Very uncomfortable to the touch. However the battery was at 100%. Not really thinking anything of it, I used it as normal and when bedtime rolled around, I plugged it back in the stock cable & charger. No "beep" indicating it's charging. No change to the battery icon. I started troubleshooting and testing it with different cables/different charger combinations. My phone would not charge at all but everytime I connected a charger to it while it was turned on, it started getting very hot.
I eventually just turned the phone off and attempted to charge it again. When it's off, it won't charge (but won't overheat).
I did notice that when I used another charger (that had an LED indicator of when it was charging), it would completely go off when I plugged my GS4 to it.
I'e never used any other charger with my GS4.
Any ideas WTF is going on?

Can you give us any insight on the phone such as any custom flashes or possible root permissions to apps that might affect the battery?
Most likely than not the battery might be fault, I highly doubt it would be anything else unless it's flashes with a certain kernel or rom that might have a bug or two.

Oh. Sorry about that. This phone is as stock as it gets. Nothing custom about it.
I talked to AT&T Chat this morning and they said they think it's the battery. I've never really heard of a battery preventing a charge problem, but that's what they told me it was.
The crappy part is, they are sending me a battery first (and if that doesn't work), they told me to call them back to have the phone replaced. What's worse is if it isn't a battery problem, I'm out a phone for the entire weekend until Monday or Tuesday.

I think in most cases (i don't know AT&T) they send you a replacement and ask you to ship your phone into the box your new phone came in.
Either way I would think that it is the battery especially with your phone overheating while charging Of courses there are cases where the plug or cord is at fault so you might want to give those options a try as well.

I might want to try that option (get a new phone) despite them sending me a battery first. I'll call them back.
My phone has about 15% left (I turned it off after I realized I couldn't charge it for troubleshooting purposes). I notice now that the phone gets really warm (around the camera flash) when on. This is without it being plugged in and only turned on.
I've tried 2 other chargers (A Griffin and a Belkin that I use for my other phones for work) and none of them charge my GS4. When I plug it into my Motorola Droid Razr (work phone), it charges that just fine. This is really frustrating. Any other weekend would be fine, but it's the freaking 4th of July weekend and I won't have a phone for the entire holiday.

I'm not the biggest tech guy when it comes to phones but I think around the flash area is where the battery connectors are (where they make contact with the phone), so that might result in it getting warm. Although with you not charging it it can still be the battery being faulty.
I would call them back and try to exchange the full phone just to be on the safe side. I still think it is the battery but if your under warranty why let it go to waste?

This happened to me with an HTC Sensation back in 2011. They sent me another battery and it still did this. This could be a common defect among logic boards. Anyway, I get a warranty replacement right away. In your case, it won't matter what rom your using, it will always do this.

Thanks guys. I did what you said on Wednesday and AT&T is sending me another phone. Should arrive sometime today. My phone's been off for 3 days now. But with about 10% charge left, I'm curious about something.
Do you have suggestions on how I can make a backup/copy my settings from my old phone to the new one? Remember, my port isn't working. So not sure if this is even possible.

Best bet would prob be to see if you can get an app quick that backs up everything onto the SD card and swap the SD cards when the phone arrives. Or manually back up what you can to SD (pictures, songs etc) using apps like ES manager etc

PLEASE! Im experiencing same issue with my phone, any solution?

I purchased a defective sgh-i747m (Canadian version of the s4) and, when I connect the phone to as charger, the area where the charging cable connects to the motherboard gets extremely hot. When I try to boot the phone with a good battery, the Samsung logo appears, then the phone turns off. Can't seem to get the phone to charge the battery without getting really hot. Only solution I found was changing the motheboard.

i just got this problem today and a bad time because im leaving in a week, but i decide to leave with out a battery for a couple days see if that does anything

It works, but many of us have problems with the Qi charger disconnecting charge at 100% and then reconnecting after about 5% has drained. Motorola is looking into it. I may be picky on which Qi charger you use.

Maybe I did not notice this problem - as I put the phone on charge in the evening, until the next morning I take it to work.
I use cheap qi charger from ebay - ~$2.5

Use a ravpower qi charger every night, no issues, phone comes off 100% full, cool to the touch. I know some units I've tried with my Maxx back in the day kept it warm through charging.

Hm, I haven't had this issue yet. I use a cheap generic three coil Qi charger. Is the issue just Qi or PMA chargers too? Because I was looking at buying another but this issue would be a little annoying to me.

Exactly how it should work to prolong battery life. Keeping any battery (especially lithium) full charger for long period of time will significantly decrease its capacity.

My phone gets very warm wireless charging. I prefer fast charge

Never had a problem with that in the past even with wired chargers. I don't think in recent phones that there is actual current on the battery at all times past 100% whether charging wirelessly or wired. I'm pretty sure it goes into a maintenance mode, but it will still show charging on the display which is the important part. That is important if you use it on your nightstand as an alarm clock with wireless charging. My Sony Z3v had no problems staying in a charge state even after 100% but my Turbo 2 does not which causes it to disconnect. It will reconnect after it loses about 5%. If I don't have it silenced, it will wake me up when it reconnects. It also affects any tasks you have programmed to happen when it is charging.
From my understanding, the first Turbo did not have this problem. I think it cropped up from the inclusion of the powermat charging or maybe something related to the 810 processor. Anyway, just waiting for a definitive answer from Moto.

It doesn't seem to affect everyone which may mean it is more dependent on your charger.

Have any Qi charger brand to propose ?

I'm using a Samsung Qi puck - not the newer round plastic one, but the older more squared soft-touch one. Works great, I don't have the 100% disconnect issue.

I use the tylt qi charger the desk top one so my phone is sitting at a 60 degree angle. It works great no issues and every morning my phone is at 100% and cool to the touch

This all sounds encouraging. I think it would be helpful if people could also add a few common notes:
charger / model
any case they have on the phone (or not) when using a Qi charger
whether the phone must be in a certain orientation (e.g., horizontal vs vertical) to charge
whether the phone is at 100% - and stays there after a charge
whether the phone is cool / warm / hot once charged
A cleaned up list developed from this would be a good resource for the user community

Tylt works great phone gets warm. Itian charger is cheap from Amazon but is very finicky.

Uhm, that's one of the sillier things I've read today.
If it drains to 5% it's not terribly useful as a charge system regardless.
A charge controller chip is supposed to be designed to PREVENT the problem you just described.
Each charge cycle, regardless of it's form shortens the life of the battery, period. If you charge it up and then let it deplete it like that, you're damaging it as much as if you left it charging.
You kind of need to leave the stupid thing plugged in or in some wireless charge hysteresis loop so that the device isn't drained. In light of the charge system being supposed to keep the battery out of the loop until it needs to charge it again (some threshold below 100%) it shouldn't MATTER if it's "plugged in" and the device won't be pulling from the battery.

I picked up 3 Samsung qi chargers at 6 quid each on offer on Amazon (UK). They work very well although they are more a convenience thing rather than a method of charging. I use one at work. One in the bedroom and one next to the Xbox great for the work desk to keep the device topped up and frees you up from plugging and unplugging constantly BUT.... It takes absolutely ages to charge so you dont go expecting to be dumping your cabled chargers. I use the work one most of the time as I'm out and about a lot and its very useful to be able to just grab the phone without unplugging and placing back on the pad when at the desk. The turbo charger gets used at home more coz in more likely to plug in to that and jump in the shower knowing that I'll have a nice reserve of power for the pub so yes they work as advertised and work well great as a trickle charge device when you ain't in a rush. If anyone is interested ping me and I'll spend some time on giving more detailed stats such as charge times from 0% and model number of the devices I use. Away for work at the mo so probably the weekend

I bought the Raynic Orchard I. It charges the phone just fine, but I noticed that if the phone wants to wake up because it senses movement, it detaches and reattaches to the charter, which gets very annoying. I moved the phone to an angle where it couldn't see me (but I could see it; sensors were under my monitor stand but the rest of the phone was sticking out) and everything went smoothly after that.

Verizon QI charge stand, Verizon case, have to charge upside down
To charge our new Turbo Droid 2 in a Verizon QI stand with the Verizon case on it, the phone must be upside down. It's OK if out of the case. We have a car QI 'base' which it won't charge in either; probably exact same issue, whatever that is. Any ideas appreciated!

Charging bug?

The turbo charger that came with my G4 charges the phone pretty quickly from whatever percentage it's on when I plug it in up to like 75%, then from that to 100% it might take up to two hours! This started happening recently. I remember it used to charge all the way at the same rate, and the phone used to get a bit hot, now the phone stays dead cold. Anyone having the same problem or is it just me?

But it slows down so much to charge 20% in like 3 hours? I was thinking maybe the charger was faulty. I've ordered a new quick charger from Amazon.

That is the way it's supposed to work. It will only quick charge part of the way. I've never actually timed mine so I don't know if it takes that long for the final part or not.
