Hi guys,
I am coming from Sony tablet, I sold it coz it has too much issues and now I am looking for another android tablet. I have iPad but I hardly use it
I want to know abt these points about GOOGLE NEXUS 7 from the owners:
EDIT: I found some answers and updated the points below.
1. Any WiFi issue, screen locked (NO)
2. Landscape mode, stock launcher (NO)
3. Any Flickering screen issue (NO)
4. Apps getting disappered (NO)
5. Actual storage available in 16gb version (13+ gb)
6. HDMI Support? (NO)
7.MHL Adapter?
8. Can be used to make phone calls (as Samsung Tablet 7)? (NO)
9. Sound Quality? (POOR)
sent from seXperia S
dont know about the rest but #2, of course it can, its a tablet.
I can answer #6. sadly the N7 will not have HDMI output. no micro-hdmi and no mhl.
Somewhere I heard that battery is not replaceable and no primary camera, only a 2.1 front facing camera, so nexus 7 is not a good option if u are a tablet enthusiast..

Oh, my bad
I dont care about the Main camera coz m not going to use my tablet for photogtaphy (Xperia S is there with me)
HDMI and lack of sd card is a BIG miss !!!
sent from seXperia S
HDMI is not so much a big problem with me, neither is memory as i use my xperia play for big games like fifa as i hate on-screen controls.
This will be for angry birds and those types of games, mainly.
Now i just wish someone would make an app allowing me to map X-Play controls to the tablets screen for games.
Anybody know one?
Of course, i would like the option for a larger memory so am hoping otg works somehow
USB OTG doesn't work on stock Jelly Bean but I think Asus has suggested that the hardware is capable so once devs have had a play it will be possible.

Well there would be no error because its not actually a feature. An error would suggest it should work, but it doesn't.

Why would you buy any sort of tablet with the intention of taking photos? A phone would be better, but if you want to take good photos just buy a real camera.

Exactly. I can understand wanting an all in one device, but a tablet should never be considered something to be taking high-quality photos on the move. A cell phone or mirrorless DSLR is a much better option, in my opinion.

I want to know abt these points about GOOGLE NEXUS 7 from the owners:
1. Any WiFi issue when screen locked. Shouldn't be, my GNexus has none.
2. Does home screen can be used in Landscape mode. Maybe on stock launcher. If not, install Apex or Nova, they look almost identical to stock but have cutomizing features.
3. Any Flickering screen issue. I expect no. Just because it seems like a poor way to launch a product.
4. Apps getting disappered. Again, unlikely. JB is rock solid from my experience.
5. Actual storage available in 16gb version. My 16GB GNex has 13.33GB available in stock JB, probably about that much.
6. HDMI Support? Likely through micro USB w/ an adapter. May be a mini HDMI slot though.
7.MHL Adapter? I don't know what that is.
8. Can be used to make phone calls (as Samsung Tablet 7)? With skype or some other app, but otherwise I expect no as it's a wifi and not cell network device.

Answers above in bold.
And concerning no rear camera, you'll look like an idiot taking pictures with that thing. Like a laptop, all you need on a tab camera wise is a FFC, they're too big and unwieldy to use as a camera.

Please say it's so!! Has this been confirmed by users who have tried it? Can't ask anymore of a $200 device, and I've been smitten with it since day one, but USB storage recognition would be the cherry on top of this Nexus Sundae ;-) If not I guess I could always try streaming from my phone or my home network via es file explorer if all else fails.

I have the Samsung Ativ 500t SmartPC, which has the atom processor and is running window 8 pro. I have to say love it. I had a Sammy 7 series slate which was running win 7 and I did the upgrade. While I can say the 7 series was faster (i5 processor), I really like the 500. The atom is way better than I expected, really snappy. Having the s-pen built into the device, and a keyboard that docks similar the the Asus transformer series are really great options. Just wanted others thought etc, and just get a discussion going on this tablet. :highfive:

My Note 2 killed your phone.
I have been looking at full win 8 tablets and seriously was thinking the Ativ 500 but when I heard of some issues I kept searching. I found the Dell Latitude 10 that I have my eye on. Removable battery, full size SDXC storage, on top of what the Ativ has. The only thing lacking is the pen with it and inside the tablet. It does have a digitizer so if get a proper stylus like the s pen you can do handwriting as well.
I think they both are great, and I am torn on waiting for Bay Trail which allows more than the current 2gb memory. I am worried that the current Atom won't be able to run Polycom CMA Desktop/M100 video client.

I love my Samsung Ativ 500T. I upgraded to Windows 8 Pro and got Windows Media Center on here. Put in a 64 GB micro SD card, so I have 128 GB storage. So far its made great laptop replacement. What do you guys use to watch mkv files? I downloaded vlc player to watch mkv files. Most of them play ok but some of them just lag so bad. My phone can play any files just fine without any lag. Is there any other video app or anything I need to do to be able to watch them without any lag? Some of them are 720p and some of them are 1080p mkv files. I did factory reset and updated all the drivers on this tablet to see it that help but still no luck.

I have a 500T as well and really like it. Upgraded to Win8 Pro and Media Center. I've been using it as a walkaround TV with my Silicondust HD Homerun Prime. Works well.
What is "CDA" and how is it used to dual boot Android? I did some basic searches and couldn't find anything about it. I'd be willing to give it a try. I love Android and on this hardware it'd be pretty cool.
Thanks,
Dave
Well I tried the incipio case I mentioned, but returned it. It fit on the body of the tablet well, but the flap had edges that are kinda sharp. Also, it has no way of locking in place when closed so it sort of flops around. Not worth imo 60 bucks. Took it back to Att. They had a Belkin portfolio case in the store for 70, however I didn't like the build quality of it. Incidentally, neither have a hole for the spen. The Att version doesn't an spen. So, right now I am using a sleeve for an 11 inch macbook air. It actually fits perfectly. I am now waiting to get a portfolio case. I sent an email to Samsung asking for a book cover case. Hopefully they will make one. I always like theirs the best.

Is anyone getting their NFC to work and if so how?
I've had this for 2 weeks and can't get it to work or figure out how to?
Also I've had it hang up and reboot a few times or have had to hard reset it because it locked up, anyone with these experiences?
I'm thinking of taking it back unless this may be a one off machine that I should just exchange it for another.

There are currently 4 different models of the 500T and it looks like only one of them actually has NFC:
http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/samsung/53961-samsung-ativ-smart-pc-model-difference-features.html
I have the XE500T1C-A04US which means no NFC. It would be nice I suppose, but honestly I almost never use it on my phone which does have NFC.
As for cases... man there's a serious lack of options out there right now. I don't like either of the ones sold by AT&T, but those are the only ones I'm aware of at any price. Seems weird that Samsung still doesn't have anything for their own product.

Someone needs to make a portable device that allows you to insert a SIM and bluetooth out to other devices supporting UART profile[for general GSM commands, SMS, whatnot] & Audio profile(? for voice talk/call).
Bundle with an app to parse these and wuala, you got yourself a generic telephone-bluetooth thingy that pairs with any device(that supports the proper bluetooth profiles) [come to think of it, almost little to no device support these profiles hmm no wonder this kind of device dont exists in the marke *runs for cover*]

Regarding its TV connecting feature, it seem alternatively you can just connect your PC or Game Console to the TV and use a bluetooth/wireless gamepad. It said it has the feature like OnLive, but you need to have an nVidia video card (which mean also a running PC), and even if it can stream the game over 3G/4G network and use it outside your home, would the latency be better than OnLive? I think yes actually. But really I don't see a compelling reason to get this unless you want Tegra exclusive games, since you can just use a highend Android phone or tablet and a bluetooth gamepad, which can still be more pocket-able than this device: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1703567677/icontrolpad-2-the-open-source-controller

This thing is nothing like those wannabes, this is the first real contender for a succesor that we've ever seen. We always joke about how the Play 2 would have a Tegra 3, 2 gigs of ram, hdmi out, play pc games, and so forth, but this thing is a godamn Tegra 4 launch device with EVERY feature on all of our fantasy checklists and then some! Be able to call. It ain't a successor if it ain't able to call. And fit in my pants for that matter.
Is 2013 the year for Android home gaming consoles or something? First the OUYA now this? I respect the fact they're trying to give people more variety over tradition game consoles. But I mean... are Android games REALLY that good? I mean if your on the go, you pull out your phone and play MC3 or whatever, when your home wouldn't you much rather play xbox or something? Or even connect your phone via HDMI (excluding XP obviously) to your TV? I just don't think android games are THAT good to have home consoles dedicated to them.
If they made a smaller version that incorporates a phone then I'd definitely be interested.

The Streaming system is like having kainy App. But more perfect.
What intrigues me is how you configure the controls? have its own mapping system too??
As I see console games perfect.
But for uses such as messages and calls I doubt,
It depends on the point of view,
But as I said, as a console, would be perfect.
I hope they are not using there own chipsets because android apps don't run the best on tegra chipsets they have been shown to run the best on snapdragon

Again, pointless to compare this to Xplay.
This is one big bulky controller with integrated screen.
Xperia Play is essentialy phone and has very convenient desing when it comes to gamepad, you can "hide" it if you want.
And again, Sony didnt say "we wont be making Xperia Play 2"
The anwser was something along the lines "we currently are not making Xperia Play" which rather means they were not working on new model, not that they ditched the whole idea.
I already argued in one of the threads that Sony WILL make new Play. They have everything they need right now or under development like new, mature hardware/technology (reason #1 N-GAGE and N-GAGE2 failed), Software which is not all supported by one model (#2 why N-GAGE failed) and a position to get enough regonizion for their device.
Playstation Mobile is still under development so I guess we can start waiting for XP2 after they get PSM fully geared and proper hardware (for that time) ready. Give it year or two.
As the title says., i can't find a good deal for HTC One 64Gb version sim free and factory unlocked. I'm not interested in 32Gb version.

You forget that they're having major manufacturing problems: they simply can't make enough handsets, so the ones they do make have to be in the most commonly-ordered configuration.
and the cheapest. They're hardly going to focus on the more expensive of the two. It would just put people off.

What, twenty full-resolution 4MP photos and three and a half seconds of 1080p video take up just 4MB in total? I don't think so.
And if you decide to make one of those Event videos, they take up half a gigabyte each, according to TechRadar.
Even the likes of Samsung aren't able to release larger gb versions till months after the initial launch of a product.

I have to disagree, I have a HTC evo 4g lte with 16gb internal and a 16gb external sdcard and I don't even have half of either of them filled up. I have 9gb free on the internal and a little bit over 8 on the external. And I have enough music on it to play music constantly over a month and not listen to the same song twice. I also have a ton of pictures and videos. And over 50 apps installed. So 32 gb is more than enough for me. And no I'm not kidding myself.

Punny mp3? Man your talking to someone who lives and breathes the music industry. Quality of sound on headphones is limited so why would you want best quality on your phone. I have over 500 gb of high quality music on my desktop. That doesn't mean I want it all on my phone. I've done professional recording, I'm in and out of recording studios and I can tell you that there is a limit to what the best headphones can reproduce. Now if you are listening to your music via a high quality sound system all the time or most of the time then I understand why you would want wav files but other than that high quality encoded mp3 is the best you can get from headphones. And if you think in full of bs, you are completely wrong. I have a bachelor's in music education, a masters in music percmformance, a certified srt (sound recording thechnician) and am currently working on my PhD in musicology. So I know a thing or two about music quality.

Good for you sir.
32gb still isn't enough.
MP3 is rubbish sounding. stick a pair of cheap earphones in & you'll never know.

My point was that even the best earphones don't produce the sound quality that wav files offer so why bother having such large files. The hardware limits the software so its all that space used up is for nothing.

The earphones I use do - I can tell a difference.
Above 256-320 kbps no human can tell the difference in sounds on earphones with pmp or mobiles..You need professional grade equipment or at least great DAC and music systems with a pair of high impedance high quality headphones [>300$] to hear that difference..not to mention really sensitive ears coz most people are not able to tell the diff even then...so please
After cancelling the 64gb graphite 6P, and going for the smaller 5X, and then cancelling the 5X and reordering the only available 32gb graphite 6P after realizing I'd much happier with the bigger device, sleeker looking, better specs after all. I'm wondering now if 32gb will be enough. I plan on shooting alot of photos and videos with this rumored great camera. What are your thoughts about the size?
Are you concerned about space with the 32gb 6P?
I'm not because I ordered a kingston c to A USB on the go. Despite that, 32 is perfect for me. But since you shoot lots of photos and videos 64 might be better but I upload everything to the cloud anyways.

There will be something like 26gb usable on that 32gb.
Ive probably got that in games and office apps.
If youre gonna be shooting 4k videos and storing music etc youll soon use it up.
Ive gone for the 128gb so I dont have to worry about it.

no problems here, i have a 32gb nexus 6 and a 32 gb chromebook pixel 2015 and 32gb is more than needed with devices always connected online
32gb should be fine especially if you use OTG thumbdrive and the cloud...

How do those work, you have to leave it connected to device as you fill it up? Or just to quickly transfer data to it and disconnect?
Use as needed like any other thumb drive.

Using a 64GB device now and I don't think I'd ever go for less for the foreseeable future. As much as you can get around things by using cloud services, you will always have that hard limit of ~26GB, which isn't that much... Especially for a large device that would be great for watching media.
I used to think i needed 64+ personally until I took a look at what I actually had on my device. Once I removed all of the crap I had on there (Games/movies/apps I no longer used/watched) I found I didn't need all the extra space. I also store all of my music, photos and high res vids in the cloud all the time so I can keep my device clean. When I travel I load up my device with all the media i'll want for the trip (just in case there is no in flight wifi) until i get where i'm going and I've still never run out of memory on my 32GB nexus 6
So pretty much this is a question no one can answer for you. It varies from person to person and you're just going to have to figure out how much memory you will require based on how you use your own personal device and the cloud services available to you.
I wouldn't go any less than 64. I have 70+gb of photos and videos and I like to have them to hand without relying on the cloud. I also have 40+gb of music. For me 128 isn't really enough either.

I hear ya, but this question was more aimed at the people that actually ordered the 32gb version
Presumably most people who would have been concerned about lack of space on a 32GB 6P would have ordered a larger one.
Yeah.. I'm doing just fine with 32GB on my N5, I only ordered the 128GB 6p because why not.
If they had the larger I probably would as well. I better get that otg drive.

I ordered Nexus 6p 32 GB and wasn't concerned until I saw this post
Do we know the size of 1 min 4k video recorded on Nexus 6p?
I found this link for S5 -
forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s5/365425-how-big-would-1-minute-4k-video.html
And the other link on one plus forum -
forums.oneplus.net/threads/how-much-storage-is-required-for-1-minutes-of-4k-video-shooting-1-1.8220/
(don't have enough posts to share external links so had to make them simple text)
Both these links confirm the size to be 3.5 GB for 10 min of 4K video, which actually concerns me.
I should have gone with the 64/128 GB. But now if I cancel my Nexus 6p 32 GB order I don't know how long I'll have to wait for 64/128 GB as they both are out of stock.

Just buy a sim card adapter and if you need more space plug it in and put stuff you don't always use on the external sim card easy..

I have everything backed up online anyway, and I use Google Play All Access for my music, so I don't think 32Gb will be a problem at all. My current 32Gb Nexus 5 has so little stored on the actual phone, I've still got 12Gb free.

Do you mean SD Cards?
My 32GB N5 was full of TWRP backups more than anything else, so not concerned, 32GB should be plenty. I used to carry all my music with me, but now I uploaded it to Google and just stream it from there. Photos go on the NAS and Google Photos right away too, the phone is just a temporary cache.
32Gb is fine for me. I have a synology solution with plex.
So music/tv/films are all streamed OTG, yes it will suck as i need constant connection but I have unlimited data anyways so that doesn't concern me.
If i really wanted to take some films i'll just use a USB OTG storage solution. But that is super rare for me. I don't play games on my phone (tablet & PC for that)
