Hey guys,
from reading around the forum lately, I am starting to believe it is very possible to port Samsung stock 4.4.2 from another device to our beloved S2. It should be able to run it just fine with these specs.
Take a look at this guide for example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ide-how-to-port-sammy-4-4-2-firmware-t2750152
We have all that is needed, and if we attempt to follow the steps of that guide by of course using S2 files instead, it could be simple to get a bootable version. Remember, that is just one guide out of a hundred, there are other ways of doing this.
However, my concerns are with the bricking part. Personally I am not aware of how big the possibility of bricking a S2 is by attempting this in case it goes wrong. If this is no issue, then we might as well have fun trying.
What are your thoughts on this?

True, they ported from Note2 which has same chipset as S3: Exynos. Our S2 has Exynos too ya know, so I am really convinced it is possible to get it on i9100!
Is it stable?
I think it's possible
A great developer has already ported xperia z2 kitkat build to 2011 xperias like arc s or xperia ray... And he's going to do the same with 2012 xperia line. But I don't know why we can't even port 4.2.2 build from s2 plus. I mean they're exactly the same right?

It's not impossible i think
But I'll take much more work compared to the work done for the S3.....

If we manage to get a booting port, a lot of progress can be made as a lot will be interested in helping I am sure.
Wouldn't it be wiser to use the Galaxy S4 Zoom or Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 ROMs and Kernels to do the porting, because the SoC should be more similar to the S2 (Exynos 4210 vs 4212)?

Nope. S2 plus isn't Exynos.

that's a Great Idea. I am not a developer or an expert. but I think this is not easy. but it isn't Impossible. ( Just my idea ). so I wish you guys good luck.:good::good: I love my s2 and still don't think I am ready for a new device.
Good luck to those who will port it. I love S2 because i m not thinking to buy new phone
Hello, you think this is possible?
use guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245786 galaxyuser is good at port
I am sure that it is possible to port stock to our S2 Samsung 4.4.2, let's expect to see soon Kit kat in our movile. Thank you very much for giving guides to be able to port Kit Kat.
Cool idea.. is there any team involved yet ?

i'm wondering what would be the best choice of CM9 from other devices to get the port from?
SGSII? NOTE?
please advice.
Seems note has the near the same hardware spec with 7.7, but s2 has the official 4.03 from samsung

I started from the s2 source (see the thread in the dev-section), unfortunately I have gotten really busy with work so I won't really be able to put much time into it right now. If you are interested in working on it, go look at the repos I posted in that thread. I've most recently been trying to get the touch to work properly, however, the driver for it in the 7.7 source code is a complete mess, and more complicated than other drivers that have been fixed for ics.
I have GT-P6800, does same repository apply to it?
All but the android_device_samsung_p6810 should, and that last one should be easy to convert. If you are interested in working on it, I would suggest forking the common ones so that we can share our work easily.
I'm interested in working on a P6800 too.
Saw this posted inthe s2 forums.

As we can be pretty sure 10.1 will never see jellybean, at least from samsung, would it make sense to start working on something like this for the tab 10.1? I'm hardly capable of doing such a thing but devs in here might be interested in looking into it. After this thing gets ics, we might as well have as many options as possible for future development.

+1x1000 for your idea,
I would really love to see true dual booting in my tab10.1-3G
If this can be done by some dev's here:
Well, we can boot some other OS's like Ubuntu, Tizen, etc without hurting android. *Cough* I doubt windows8ARM
BTW, my tab doesn't have SDCard slot for custom partitions!
So, can the internal 16GB memory be repartitioned safely and make uboot to boot custom kernel+rootFs from newly created patition?
(I've successfully dual booted my N900(maemo5+Nemo) with uboot, its awesome)

Hello Folks,
I am a Recognized XDA Developer and I work on Cyanogenmod for Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 which is an exact similar device to Galaxy Tab P1010 (TI OMAP3630).
We have got fully working CM9 and CM10 on Galaxy SL, with few minor issues with video recording and laggy interface. However, we are working on porting the new 3.0.8 kernel that was released on omapzoom. This new kernel would help us resolve issues that we have been affecting ICS and JB releases.
So far, we have managed to get the kernel booting with few basic stuff like Touchscreen, Panel, Audio, Keypad, Vibrator working. Galaxy SL is exactly similar to Galaxy Tab P1010 WIFI and it essentially shares the same kernel and I suspect that most of the userspace stuff also should be the same. I was informally asked by cdesai if I was interested to develop for this device, but I had to turn my back since I wasn't really having the time for it.
However, since we are working on a new kernel for Galaxy SL from scratch, I would really like to take the initiative of making something useful for P1010 too, keeping in mind the small user base for Galaxy SL, we thought our work could be useful for P1010 and would benefit more people.
We would like developers working on P1010 to come forward and let us know the current status of development on this device (Kernels, Custom Roms, Attempts at CM, etc), so that we could plan something accordingly. Also, we would be interested to know how many people actually own this device and would like to have CM over it. Let's use this topic as a playground!

Let's do it people, I'm willing to help dhiru as well.
I'm in too
@dhiru (Y)
This is fantastic news, and thanks for considering the P1010 as everywhere else I've looked hasn't really got anywhere. While I'm afraid I won't be able to help with any of the development (I wish I could, but I'm too busy as it is), I can use my device for testing. Keep it up, and I can't wait until it's all sorted.
Personally, I'd love to have any version of CM on this tablet, as Android 2.3.6 is looking really dated now, and the interface is laggy compared to that of Android 4.1 devices. I've upgraded to CM10 on my Galaxy S and it's so much smoother than it was, I can only hope the same is possible for this device, as it's certainly capable.
Also, I know Motofoca over on the MadTeam forums was working on it (which you already know, most likely), but he's not mentioned anything towards progress in a while. I can't post a link though, considering I've got less than 10 posts, so you'll have to google it.
Any help I can give is gladly offered, now when it comes to coding I am rusty... In fact I think the rust has extra layers of rust but know what I am looking at and can spot the bugs and offer suggestions.
I have two of these and still think the actual build of them is excellent so would love to have some decent internals

I'm owning a P1000 too (as per the question of the OP) and I would really like to have a current CM 10.1 release with kernel 3.0 on it... I'm a java developer with some C++ background but I didn't have the time yet to dive into android development (neither high nor low level)..
If there is anything to test or provide info about just ask..

I don't know whether this was a typo or not, but you can get CM10 or CM9.1 (stable) for the P1000 already. Just look on the cyanogenmod site for the P1. This is for the P1010 which is the WIFI only version of that tab and doesn't yet have a release of cyanogenmod for it.

If I was to start developing a custom ROM based on the latest ICS update for the Verizon model of this tab.... would there be any interest ?
I ask because last time I took the time to do one for the Verizon SGT (the original 7 incher) there wasn't that many interested "customers"

True.. I'm past all that at this level and it would just be the time invested. Sounds like it's not worth it. Heh
If you did an ICS rom and left the samsung video player in it and added ntfssd (from google play) or compiled your own kernel that would use exfat or ntfs (TWRP supports exfat) for large file support I would test it.
Keep in mind ICS has been done, but If you could figure out how to port kitkat to the device that would be awesome. Kitkat is supposed to have great memory management. The galaxy 7.7 only has 1GB of system memory HC ran fast on it but ICS is a bit of a dog even with bloat removed and tweaks applied. The port of PAC rom to the i815 gave me issues due to incorrectly signed files in the rom.
I haven't checked the general section on this forum for a long time but yea I still use my i815 quite often and the lack of stock development has been extremely disappointing. But there is a lot of driver work afaik particularly with the IR and LTE. I don't have a data plan on my i815 anymore but from time to time I may throw my phone SIM in there. Biggest thing for me over the other ROMs is having the function of the full hardware. I personally dislike touchwiz thoroughly with the exception of multiwindow features
So yea
I would definitely be interested there are likely a few others who would be interested but don't frequent this section. The i815 info thread I think still have a decent number of subscribers.

The source code has been available on github, from the following link , this has been available for some time, but I lack the knowledge, and time to build the ROM, and kernel.
The kernel is a modified CM11 kernel, and the kickstarter file from the repository should setup the rom with all the repo dependencies (including the actual sailfish os part) that it relies on to work, providing I correctly understand what a kickstarter file does.

Is it possible to port it to galaxy s4 i9500?
If yes, can some port it? or can someone teach me how to port? or is there any tutorial for porting it?
This looks Promising ...
I want that ^^ can't weit till we can get a shot at it
yeah, I hope we will get some news soon, I'd fancy a nexus 5 sailfish-rom most of course
Anyhow, it seems the nexus 5 wasn't that of a good choice imo. Sure, it has good specs for that low price, but owning a Nexus S before I thought the N5 is a good choice also towards support for new roms (like the Nexus S was: you always got new / experimental roms for it first). Now the N5 seems to have bad hardware in the way that it is hard to implement in new roms (e.g. find suitable driver) which is a shame. Well, I'm not sure if I'd buy another Nexus phone again, thankfully there are many alternatives now (the fairphone, jolla phones etc).
Umm.. Guys? The rom has been out for over a month already.
