You must have to close all your ports and flips for avoiding water getting in..
Even If you had closed your ports Still be aware..!! Bcoz it is not enough.. There are much more changes of getting water in through the gaps between Cam, sound and lock key..
Z1 got IP 55 and IP 58 certification.. But certification says It is Just a "Water-Resistance"..
I think Sony don't know the difference between "Waterproof" and "Water-Resistance"
In short Sony is cheating us..!!
So be aware Guyz..
Thanks & Regards.

Another troll. I've submerged the phone in water many times and nothing is wrong with it. The phone is sealed. Sony says the phone can be submerged in water for 30 minutes in 1.5m. Users on this forum have gon beyond the 30minutes and deeper than 1.5m. Sony did not cheat us, just you're misunderstanding things.

You will find some interesting post.. Even i had experienced same.. I got quick battery drain problm,, I gave cell to service centre,, They avoid my warranty bcoz liquid tampered..
I did not open port after installing SIM and microSD at start.. Even i do charging with magnetic dock.. Even tho how do water gets in..?
If i calculate overall time then also i had not submerged my phone for 30 mins..!!
There are many more people who are facing same problems..!!

ports will get loose u need to make sure they tight before u try in water.
Common sense really

i bet your ports were not closed properly or your phone was faulty, because i went for swimming with my z1 for almost an hour and no issues.

many people have fun at dipping their portable hot in cold water ( highly unadviced ) ... of same if your phone is well fell, you can forgotten the waterproofing... and sony unadviced the chemical products, chlore in pool, same for salt... the better it's of the wipe after with of the soft water... But I have changed my ecran, after broken, and no issue with water...
Envoyé de mon C6903 en utilisant Tapatalk

No trolling, I had mine four hours (brand new out of the sealing ) and gently putted it into 20 cm of normal water. Maybe 1 minute because I was filming it. So I know the ports where shut tight because I filmed those parts with extra care and it wasn't dropped.
Well, dead after 2 minutes.
Turned out the sealing of the headphone jack was not there or the seal wasn't good installed. Press phone in your mouth and try to blow into the headphone jack. Shouldn't be possible.
About the warranty. A big mouth and a "f**** you, it's waterproof morron" mentality works. After a lot of idiots (at the service centre) whining about warranty and waterproof I got a brand new one. They had to, I filmed it

I cannot do this without swearing, but we don't need these topics, be aware, be aware, we are aware. No one will put his phone in the water with everything open + my Z1 was in the rivers, lakes and nothing.

And tell me the difference?
Water proof and water resistant is the same, but people uses the term water resistant, when they mean SPLASH water resistant.
The Z1 has 2 ratings for it's water protection:
IPX5 > Resistance against low pressure water jets
IPX8 > Resistance against immersion in water up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.
What Sony doesn't inform, and I think they should, is the the phone can be under water, but you should avoid any abrupt movement underwater, or doing thinks like jumping in the pool with your phone, the water force in those situations is massive, and our phone isn't protected against high pressure water.
We also should mind those water jets (from the pool pump filter), or even tap or hoses with high pressure.
With that in mind, and keeping the sealing in the covers clean, your phone should be fine when taking a bath.

Mine survived water slides, tubing, and swimming. Had it in my shorts cargo pocket whole time I was not taking pics with it.
So be aware the phone works as designed.

My phone is waterproof. I dropped it in the baby's bath by mistake and it was fine. Also I've used it all over winter whilst cycling with no protection.

I don't find any purpose of this thread. One should know under what circumstances phone stays waterproof. Thread closed

My Xperia deep in gthe water... and still working

Hello,
I was in spain on a river heloing my son jumping from one rock to another when i heard a ""splash""... Ooppps that was my xperia that just dropped out of my pocket into about 4 meters water.
My parents instisted to pick it up while i was just thinking i would get another one from my company.
So i jumped into the water and pick it up...
I did wait about an half day and started it again and guess what? STILL WORKING.
So ic an tell you that HTC device are water resistant
Wow - You got lucky dude!
i dropped mine in the toilet and it broke the screen - it messed up all the colours and everything - was the phone off when you dropped it in?
i'm sure there is some serious corrosion going on inside of the unit. but there is always a chance you'll never have a problem from it.
yes u should dry it some more , half day isnt enuff ...
Lucky guy

Have you tried throwing it in lava?
as mentioned already, half a day is not long enough. i suggest you leave it off for a few more days. sure it is working now but while it's powered on, the moisture inside will slowly but surely build up corrosion at the solder joints and battery/power terminals. that' s when things start to go screwy.
take off the battery cover and battery, leave it open with they keyboard showing, wrap the phone in a thin towel or dry wash cloth and place it on top of a tv or something that generates constant heat. it helps to leave a fan blowing as it helps the air circulate and remove unwanted moisture.
leave it to dry for as long as you can live without your xperia. the longer it dries, the better your chances of things not going wrong in the future due to corrosion and whatnot.
this was my old before I got my X1. Picture taken (not with phone...obviously) for insurance company.

Trust me, it's only matter of time, until the oxidizing will kill your phone totaly. Once it gets to the water, it's already on the way to hell. Water and electronics, that's a killer. Especialy if some stupid people take the phone right after droping into the water and wonder that it doesn't work and CHARGE THE DAMN BATTERY!

Don't be so sure.
Three years ago I dropped my old W800i in the tub and it was fully submerged. I dried it off thoroughly then charged it up, on the assumption that the heat from charging would evaporate the water quickly. It worked, and it's still going.
well I am so sure. As I do work with a service guy and his job is to fix phones.... It's same like droping a cookie into the water and saying later - it looks as new.. It may look like new, but that's only what you can see. Inside the cookie isn't the same cookie as it was once before
That's called "selection bias," dude. The guy you work with gets the phones that did not survive the water. He never touches or sees all the other phones that survived.
There is at least one entire post talking about phones that survived various water submersions.
I have a Dell laptop that died for 3 days after being soaked with rain (2 years ago), and now continues to function after it dried, as well as the SE W800i.
That's 2 for 2. My own selection bias, but not bad at all.
put it in container with rice
lol. that's constant heat, but constant humidity! not a good idea
Dry rice, not a rice cooker.
Why rice?
And I don't think the inside of the phone will suffer corrosion since rivers don't have salt water
And one more thing.. I don't electronic devices don't mind watter as it is, but the electronics do mind because water is a conductor (duh!) and it screws it up inside so that it turns off..
I also heard that after a phone takes a bath in any kind of natural water, it would be good to dip it in distilled water (?) since it's not a conductor and all that stuff.. kewl ha?
MidnightMadness said:

Because the rice will absorb any moisture in the air around it.
It will:
http://www.roscoemoss.com/tech_manuals/fmcf/
yeah, we all know from 3th grade of elementary school, that water is a conductor. Which is what most people don't realize. What it does with the motherboard? Motherboard has special thin "skin", which protects it from the corosion or oxidization (damn how to spell that?). But once you put it in the water, the thin "skin" is destroyed and that's it.
So it may work now, next week.. But in the near future it'll die suddenly

S4 Active same as normal S4 software wise?

So I just got the S4 Active and was wondering how similar the normal S4 is compared to the S4 Active. AFAIK only the screen and camera are different so most software mods/changes should be compatible?
Edit: I just realized I posted the the Verizon section... can this be moved to the AT&T area?

They are different. As different as the galaxy s2 and galaxy s2 skyrocket. Firmware is different as well. Just about everything about the active is different.

Yep, different...and there are a couple of threads about this already. So far, the Active can not be rooted...so everything else just doesn't matter until it can.

Firmware is different, but the processors are the same. Your analogy is flawed as the skyrocket was a different processor from the sII. most is the same sans camera, display. Root is probably going to need help from an insider with a eng kernel like verizon s4.
Already broke the phone... went to take an underwater shot for a few seconds and the phone won't charge and there is water in the camera lens already...
Hopefully they will swap it out, I've only had the phone for 2 days.
Edit: Looks like it started charging right after I posted this...

It's actually WATERPROOF. According to the official specs, it's waterproof to a meter (about 3 feet) below the surface and for up to 30 minutes. So yes, i would take it back, just don't mention you've probably gone below the 1m depth
It even has a mode to let the user continue to use the phone underwater

its classed as IP67 which is water/dust resistance, including immersion to 1 meter yes, but i still wouldnt do it. its supposed to hold up for a certain amount of time (couldnt find the spec). Id be ticked if it died after a quick 1-foot dip, but i wouldnt expect it to survive more than 30 seconds at more than a foot.
ic3man5 i would get it replaced, or if you want to hack/mod, go with a standard GS4 and a waterproof case/housing. ive used underwater housings (own one for 5D Mk III actually) with pro photo gear; even those dont always hold up to their ratings, or for very long.

Its up to 30 minutes to 1 meter. I put it in the water about 4 inches and took two pictures and both cameras had water in it. I made sure the USB cover was on and I pressed the back of the case below the camera a few times to make sure it had a good seal.
I went to the store today and they told me I had to come back tomorrow when the manager is there because they have no idea how to handle this issue...
He pulled it off looking for those moisture sensing pads... lol
edit: Also the headphone jack is suppose to be water proof (resistant) so you don't have to plug it.
So far my active has lived in many beer glasses and sat in my swim trunks 1ft underwater for over an hour. Cleaned off in sinks. Showers. Tossed in a lake about 3ft down. No issues. Just in case I went with the Square trade insurance over ATT. Cheaper and less hassle.

OnePlus One Is Waterproof - Discussion here

Hey everyone,
I was recently walking outside in the pouring rain with my OnePlus One. The crazy thing was that it was still functioning fine despite being practically hailed on. So I pulled out my M8 and decided to start recording. In this test I put the OnePlus One underwater multiple times and it came out fine each attempt. I didn't have any issues with the touch sensitivity, headphone jack, or even charging. It's pretty crazy quite honestly.
Thanks for providing this. I think you're a bit crazy considering people would kill for this phone, but it looks like it might have a nano coating like the moto G
Thanks for risking it.
Beyond that - how did you find the screen in the outdoors? Just respond instinctively (e.g. "rainbows directly into my eyes", "it was OK", "use only in caves - dark ones even for them")
a lot of modern phones can do this. the way they are built with low tolerances gives them some water resistance. but the oneplus is not waterproof, and it has no water resistance certification. so dont try this at home with your phone. you will probably mess something up and the phone can start to act weird days later. it is a testament to the build quality though.
@Nxxx,
getting interested about Speaker, is it working after such shower.?
what about earpiece.? OnePlus One detects earphones after this.?
etc. with such thing that are not visible at first glance or through video...(is it fully functional.? microphone.?)
i just wanted to add here. i got caught in a really bad thunderstorm last night while on my motorcycle with my opo in my jeans pocket. i rode for about 5 minutes in the worst thunderstorm i've ever ridden in, i was completely soaked and the opo got it as well. it was stil on and acting fine so i threw it under the seat and continued home and haven't shut the phone off yet and it's still fine.
i'd say the phone at least has a nano coating. i always worried about my nexus 5 because i knew this day would come at some point where i'd get stuck in a storm with my phone in my pocket and not be able to pull over. look slike the opo will do just fine.

I once used my Nexus5 for almost an hour in pure rain. It got so extremely wet, you can't imagine. I already thought I'd had to buy a new one. Nope. It's still working.
(Yes I had to stay in the rain. I was at the army there.)
I was taking a shot REALLY next to the water when a wave hit a half of my phone and it was underwater (but still in my hands) for less than a second. Nothing happened. I don't think it's waterproof, but somehow it resist

maybe someone would like to push his device for testing
Don't get your hopes up too high people,
Friend of mine actually broke his OPO this way after 2 days (biking in a heavy rain storm).
The speakers were completely soaked and couldn't play anything till they dried. Everything seemed fine after the phone dried but it couldn't charge any more thus rendering the phone useless.
So anyway be careful out there! You never know if your device is just as water resistant as in this video, my friend already had bad luck so don't jinx it haha.

but do you usually walk on the streets without the shoes?? where do you live??

can't be, all waterproof devices has rubber plugs on ports: audio, microusb, this doesn't.
here is a teardown for the OnePlus, doesn't seem to have rubber and protections against water in any part:
https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/OnePlus+One+Teardown/26484
notice that the microusb port give complete access to water to electronics inside, it is either luck for sometime (what happened an hour later? is the OPO still working?) or it was treated with waterproof material.
then compare it with the Galaxy S5, where you can easily see rubber protections around parts that reach to the outside, camera, back, etc:
https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung+Galaxy+S5+Teardown/24016
The correct term is water resistant, not proof. And I don't even believe it have water resistant nano coating until officially confirmed by OPO. And they would not neglect to advertise that feature if they spent money on it.
NO! this phone has no seals in it at all! you will kill your phone sooner or later. hell i had a s5 and still didnt put it under water. dont do it ppppppl
Hope your charging port doesn't corrode, especially since the opo doesn't have wireless charging... cool video though. Makes me feel like i dont have to baby my baby as much as i do!
I feel like the headline of this should be changed so that people who are just skimming the headlines won't get the wrong idea and drown their phones :/
Sent via quantum entanglement, focused through my OnePlus One.
I agree the title is misleading. The phone is not water proof, there's no gasket on the back cover, no nano coating, and no port covers. It's just glass fused to the midframe with a tightly fit back which makes somewhat resistant to water, but there's no ingress protection so no dunking your phone.

Galaxy S5 Warranty & Water Damage?

Hey,
Just wanted to ask a quick question and see if anyone has had and luck with getting their water damaged S5 repaired under warranty? I've just sent mine back to them today.
I had mine submerged for a few seconds under no more than a couple of inches of water. It worked for most of the day but it began to behave strangely and the screen started flickering. Eventually the screen stopped working entirely.
I had the back panel fitted correctly and the port cover was secure. I reckon the water made its way in through the speaker. I've seen a few videos online of similar issues for others and just like mine, they had the condensation inside the front/rear camera and eventually the screen died.
I won't hear back from them for a couple of weeks, but has anyone on here had any luck in getting them to fix the phone?
thanks in advance.

They will repair the device or replace it with a new one under warranty for sure. The S5 has a IP67 rating and they even advertise with this feaure. The fact water came into the phone is their problem and not the costumers.
Yeah that's exactly my thinking on it but the guy in the shop didn't expect it to be covered, (although i got the impression that he wouldn't know what IP67 meant of you gave him a book on it).
I know they say it can survive 30 mins at 1 metre deep in water to to be rated at IP67 but mine failed miserably after only a few seconds exposure to water.

Don`t let them blow you off, its covered under warranty.
..
I never said it was "Waterproof". I understand that it is "water resistant" and that it is rated to survive 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. I would never put that to the test, but I would expect a phone with an IP67 rating to survive a dip of a few inches for no more than 5-6 seconds.
..
I'm hopeful they'll look after it. I haven't heard back from them yet so it could still be good news.
We have consumer systems here for taking stores/companies to court quite cheaply if products aren't up to scratch. I can do that if necessary, but I'd rather things were quick and easy.
..
Hi,
It's going a little off topic really, but I have video footage of the moment it was submerged. I would hope it won't come to that, and I have no experience of warranty issues so I'n not writing them off yet.
The reason I posted this thread was to see if anyone had the same problem with their phone and if they had any trouble dealing with the warranty claim.
Update:
I'm a little disappointed to find that it seems they are deeming the phone "Warranty Void" and to my surprise, they diagnosed a "Warped Board" as the cause (See the photo below).
With so much attention on the iPhone 6 after "BendGate" a couple of weeks ago, I was shocked to find they were suggesting my phone had bent seemingly from regular wear and tear.
I wasn't aware of any bending, I hadn't dropped or bent the phone at all, just got it wet and it was in my hand the entire time when it happened. It worked for a while afterwards before the screen gave up.
Now I'm starting to wonder if the phone had bent gradually in my pocket, compromising the water resistant seal and allowing water in when I got it wet.
I'm very disapointed with how the phone stood up to regular wear and tear. Its the latest in a long list of Samsung phones I've had since the first Galaxy S but the experience has really put me off getting the Note 4 next week.
I'll keep you updated with further developments, Been using an iPhone since this happened and its killing me!

Just another quick update:
I've been in touch with Samsung directly about the phone and have explained that the repair centre (Independent Samsung approved) had deemed the phone beyond economical repair and that it had a bent board inside. They have arranged for a courier to come and take the phone for a second opinion with a different company and have assured me that if it is indeed water damaged, it'll be covered under warranty.
We'll see how it goes from here. Nothing's certain yet but so far I've been very happy with the service I've received. Here's hoping I'll be back on the road soon. I never realized just how much I rely on my phone.
Well, only if there's Film Tape over the Humiditý-Indocator.
...and if your phone has got a humidity-sensor (like S 4), it maybe logged the humidty in the last few life seconds of the Phone. [DEVIL ICON]
I'm very sorry to tell you this.
But don't worry! There's something called Water damage Repair:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
In another forum I read about a guy whose phone got water damage. The repair store pressure tested it twice and it leaked both times. Then they cleaned the charging flap and tried it again without leakage. They claimed that the charging flap had not been closed correctly and the warranty did not apply...

water resistance actuality

So I'm on vacation with my family and have a Verizon nexus 6. I waned to further test the usability of the phone in water. I have seen the video where it was submerged and was convinced it was good to go for the most part. I decided to record some video about 2in submerged. It did it great and worked so i kept going and tried some more. Never had it deeper than about 6in. After about 3videos the proximity sensor changed to a red light pretty much then it faded away. The next malfunction was the signal dropped and then the phone shut off and it was basically in a boot loop going from Google boot animation and continuing to loop. After about 30 min of that the screen started to go fully white then black for another 30 Min. Then it died and is not coming on. So basically do not purposely submerge your n6. Just wanted i share my experience with the community. For those wondering. I have a new one coming Monday after the $150 deductible.
Also prior to doing this i had used the phone in the shower 3 times with no problems getting it wet.
So don't submerge a phone in water that isn't rated as waterproof?
Why? Just why would you even attempt this??

Um, WTF were you doing with your phone in the shower ... Never mind, don't think we want to know
That's like saying "when I drove my Subaru into the wall it no longer runs" or "While moving my piano from the 5th floor it dropped and broke." "When I touched the 400 Volt power line it shocked me."
PS:
Water resistance means it resists water, not that it is water proof. It is more likely to survive a splash or two but is not designed to be submerged. Think old Casio watches that you could wash your hands with while wearing but going to the pool would have been a mistake.
I find this rather interesting and commend you for your bravery. couldnt/wouldn't have done this myself but interesting none the less lol

Bravery? That's not the word that comes to mind for this attention seeking stunt.

Why do people confuse water resistance with water proof? Lol

Cause.....water
Thanks for confirming that our phone isn't waterproof, I'm sure there's an extremely small minority of owners that don't already know this.
Thanks for confirming dude
OP, are you too rich ? looking ways to burn money?
This is pretty funny lol.
I personally wouldn't test the limits of water resistance, but that's just me.
I didn't even know nexus 6 advertised water resistance, I knew it had no wasn't water proof certification though.

Water resistant, yes, water proof, no.
Water resistant is splash proof, which is no where near submersible. Jeez some people are odd.
OP, appreciated the attempt but if you decide to purposefully destroy another phone maybe next time do a series of water exposures with each slightly higher than the last. This might give the rest of us a better idea of how strong the water resistance really is.

I think its funny so many of you give a **** what he does with his phone. who cares, if he wants to throw it in the toilet and piss all over it and pull it back out and use it that's his decision.. I would like to know what the limitations of the phone are as far as water goes, so yeah dunking a 600$ device in water isn't something I have balls enough to do but of someone else is willing to hey I will definitely watch
