[Q] Snapchat error "Can't play this video" - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Before I get told I need to take this to an app board, I want to point out I've had Snapchat on 3 devices now, and this is the first to give me the error in title. It opens photos no problem, but try and play a Snapchat video, and the error happens. I've tried rebooting, still not working. Is there something special I need to install to get videos to work on SGS5?

Hmm, that's really weird. Videos work fine on my S5.
Have you tryed clearing cache and data for the app? If that doesn't work, I would re install Snap chat.
Sent from my SM-G900W8 using Tapatalk

None of those options worked for the one video that gave me the error. However, it was my first video on this phone so I decided to have another friend send me a test Snapchat video, and it opened up fine (and she used very rude language to do so =P love her). So I'm going to place the blame this time on the original video sender, and something being wrong on their end.
Thanks for the suggestions!

[Q] Problem with Youtube with the new update

Google just released the new update for Youtube app in Android Market.
After I updated the app on my Nook Color, running on CM 7 RC, I found that Youtube app failed to load any clip at all.
Does anyone have this problem? I also have Nexus 1 which is updated as well but doesn't have such a problem.
Any ideas? Is it possible to downgrade Youtube by uninstalling it?
** My Nexus 1 recently has a new Market app but my NC is yet not upgraded. Is it going to be a big matter for a rooted NC?

I have the same problem, it keeps loading and never actually loads the vids. So good thing i made a back up before upgrading. I cleared app data, wiped dalvik/cache and still a no go. It seems other phones are also having problems with the update. I
All these new google apps are messed up -_-

Working OK here; CM7 nightly (151).
Hmmm. I just realized that Google AD, which plays right before the clip, is loaded and played. However, the clip I touched in is having a problem: "There was a problem while playing. Touch to Retry."
In the moment the HQ button appears, unchecked it. Videos will play in low quality fine. Waiting on a fix.

Reading the rating comments for the Youtube app in the market, it appears that this problem isn't limited to the NC and is occuring on several other platforms also.
I have only been able to get 1 video to play correctly. While watching my router's status lights, I can see that the videos are downloading but all I get is the spinny arrow or the "Touch to retry" error.
I just noticed when I went to the market website that Youtube is now listed as not compatible. Adobe flash as well. Funny when you consider they are both part of the stock setup. It's pretty clear Google is blocking apps not so much based on the device but whether it is rooted or not. Question is, all rooted devices or only those with CM7 on them?

Same here I saw a new YouTube update on my G2, this morning, and when I went to update it on my nook, it wouldn't allow me to update.

Another thing I noticed with the Youtube update is the restriction of certain videos from being played on mobile devices. Luckily, I had a backup of a pre-screwy Youtube and market update sd image and things are running fine again.
It really makes me wonder what is going on behind the scenes at google to cause them do all of this.
Yeah I'm having the same problem. Reverted to a backup and it's working again. This is on the latest release candidate.
Sent from my Nook Color!
It's working fine for me. I even played a HQ vid with on problem. I will say that when I clicked on one of the front page videos it just sat and spun its wheels but when I searched for something it played without any delay.
What version of CM7 is everyone using?
I am running 7.0.3 and was having problems with the updated youtube.
7.1.0-RC1 here.
yeah, youtube 2.2.16 will not work on my nook, but works fine on my htc aria. not sure why
nook: cm7 n155 / aria: cm7 n162
Same here. Running cm7 rc1 off of sd card. Some videos ran fine others didn't. Revered to old version on backup.

Nightly 151 off sd card here. Everything working fine with updated youtube. Every vid I tried played ok.
Same problem here with YouTube 2.2.16 not playing High Quality (HQ) videos on the Nook Color running CM7. Those of you who say it's not playing anything, your YouTube app may default to HQ video. As soon as the video downloading spinning circle appears on the screen, tap the screen in landscape mode to see the toggle switch to turn HQ off for that video. The low quality video should load up after you turn off HQ.
Anyway, last night I remembered that in the early days of rooting the NC we had the same problem with HQ video in the YouTube app. I tried the fix for that old problem last night and it worked on 2.2.16. All I did was sign out of my YouTube account, force stopped the app, cleared cache and data, and rebooted the NC. After reboot open the YouTube app, accept the TOS, and it should work. When everyone had this problem earlier this year, it would sometimes come back and we'd do the routine again to make it go away. I don't know what eventually solved the problem last time (an update fixed it?), but maybe the same behind-the-scenes permanent fix will solve the problem with 2.2.16.

Tried this - some videos are playing now in HQ but not others. Strange. For example I selected one artist and two of her videos would play but two wouldn't. After rollback to 2.1.6 they all play.
When I have a situation like this where the updated version of an app works much worse than the prior (Skype, Okcupid notably), I roll back and then use Titanium to force-detach it from the Market.
Even if there wasn't a problem playing videos with the new update, I still would roll back to the previous version.
I find it irritating as hell that this new version of the Youtube player has incorporated the "do not play on mobile devices" block on some videos. I did not like this "feature" on the Youtube Ipodtouch app and never could figure out the reasoning behind it.

[Q] Can't do video calls on Hangouts

I was just curious if anyone else was experiencing this problem. I've had it since Hangouts was released. I've already contacted Google which just resulted in them ignoring me
Every time I start up a video call in Hangouts I get the annoying - "Unfortunately, Hangouts has stopped." It doesn't give me the 'Wait' option either. It's either 'Report' or 'Cancel.' Strangely, I can get it to do ONE video call after I clear data/cache and FC the Play Services app...which is strange to me. I have the latest firmware and I'm NOT rooted. Also, I just got the new Hangouts update (1.0.2) and the problem still persists.
Things I've Tried
Clearing Data/Cache of Hangouts AND Play Services. Restarting and without.
Factory Data Reset
Uninstalled possible conflicting software: Voice, GrooveIP
Any insight or if you might have a fix would be much appreciated.
Awww...no insight? Is it a lost cause?
Nothing other than to tell you it is working fine on mine (with no conflicts from Voice or GrooveIP). I occasionally get dropped connections when chatting with my brother in So Cal, but he's on DSL so it doesn't really surprise me.
Well hangouts it's working like it was an alpha release. I added some of my family members to g+ and then to Hangouts so we could videochat in group and share things, etc.
The first time i sent a message it didn't show up to any of the new users. I tried videocalling and from my side it was ringing, but in the other end nothing happened.
I went to settings and signed out in all of the hangouts and then it started working.
But with every new user it's the same if they weren't Talk users previously.

Same. Very annoying. If you clear the cache and dat you can do a video call, but only once before the error happens again.

Yeah I tried Signing Out/Signing In and it was still doing it. I also just tried deleting all my Hangouts and starting fresh then restarted my N7...still the same problem. I think I've tried every troubleshooting tip in the book and with absolutely no help from Google.
Hell I've gone through the entire root process to find a fix...nothing same damn error. How does this keep happening? It doesn't even make any sense.

I have different device (g2/slimrom 4.2.2), but I had same problem. My solution was to push libvideochat_jni.so to /system/lib (it was missing, but I got it from rom provider packages).

Found the files and pushed them cleared the app's data and cache, restarted the device and no video chat. I'm running a Fix Permissions now since I read somewhere that when you push the files the permissions don't match the rest of the folder, so I'm waiting for this to be done and see if it works after that.
EDIT: Nope...still the same.
EDIT2: Ok...here's what is really strange. The file you mentioned isn't included with the latest version of gapps (03/01/2013). The libs included were 'renamed' to libgtalk_stabalize.so and libgtalk_jni.so. I need to know if anyone who actually has this working has these same files in system/lib folder.
EDIT3: Nope, just realized it wasn't any of that either. it has something to do with the Google Play Services app. I clear data and FC that and I can do 1 video call after that it still the same symptoms. Google says they are working on it so I guess the best I can do is wait.
This is happening for me on my galaxy nexus (stock 4.3 not rooted). I only just wiped the thing clean about a week ago from the factory image.
In my troubleshoot testing at home, I've discovered that my girlfriends nexus 7, and her sgs2 (with CM10.1) both force with the same behaviour. hangouts works fine until trying to make/receive a video call.
The ONLY android device I can get it to work properly on is my HP touchpad - the bloody thing is the only one that wasn't meant to run android in the first place!
I'm not sure how people have got it to work for just one call, I've tried wiping play services, but it doesn't seem to help.
I have same problem with galaxy nexus. One simple question, have you ever change your kernel or ROM?
Yes, but I've been running stock for quite some time now. Without issues.

same problem with s3 verizon
i have a galaxy s3 verizon one..evn i have the same problem with my s3..when i tr to video call someone..it says unfortunately hangouts has stopped..nd viber also doesn even open..any solution will be appreciated!
same problem
I am having the same problem with my Verizon droid RAZR mass and my galaxy note 10.1 gtn8013. When I use my laptop to video chat everything works great, it just when I use my mobile devices. I've used my sons nexus 7 with my account and it still has the same problem.
I installed SuperJELLY on my Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE, upgraded from Talk to Hangouts, and get similar results. I can open the app once and am able to IM okay, but after a reboot, I get, "Hangouts has stopped." I tried rebooting into recovery and fixing permissions, but that didn't fix the problem.
UPDATE:
I'm unsure which of these steps worked, exactly, but I:
Used Titanium Backup to make Hangouts a user app
Applied the Hangouts update from around 2013-11-16
Made Hangouts a system app
Now she appears to work just fine, Captain!
How do you use TB to change Hangouts to a user app?
I have exactly same problem now. Just can't make any video call, it worked fine before and I just found the problem today. I've tried all suggestions and methods above but still not working. I didn't change anything in my phone recently.

Facebook Messenger Video Freezing

Hey guys, so I installed 5.0.1 through Kies onto my n910g and for some reason, Facebook Messenger videos freeze when I try to play them.
Sometimes it'll play a few seconds of it before freezing and saying "Something went wrong" or with a LOT of luck, it'll play the entire thing.
Has anyone had this issue and/or knows of a fix?
I've completely wiped everything and reinstalled the firmware with no success...
same issue
I to am unable to play videos sent to me on messenger.i am using the s6 and any videos Sent through messenger play for 3 seconds then an error occurs.tried everything to get it wheeling but nothing.
Same thing
I have the same issue on s6 aswell, please help someone!
This sounds like an app problem. Go to the app's page on Play store and send an email to the developer. If every one of you did it, then they'll know it's an issue present on different devices, so (if they care) they'll look into the issue.

Strange Issues on nexus 7 (2013), netflix and starz apps not able to play

So, one day, on my homescreen, 2 of the shortcuts were android icons. Clicking them said the app did not exist. I went into the app drawer, and the apps were still there, so, I remove the old icons, and made new shortcuts. No problem, everything seems to be working fine.
Later, I try to use netflix. It says that it cannot play due to error 0013. I look it up online, try clearing data, try uninstalling/reinstalling, and still error 0013. I saw someone say try using amazon app store's version, and that worked. A few days later though, the amazon store one gives me error 0013 too.
Another day later, I try to use the starz app, and it tells me that it can't play any videos because it failed to process drminfo. If I instead download the video, and try to play it, it tells me that the license expired.
Note: showtime, amazon video, and other video services work fine.
Now, another day later, I tried to bring up the recent apps bar, and after probably 30 seconds of delay, it came up, and while swiping some of the apps away, it told me it could not read some file (i think appinfo?).
Not sure if all of these are related, but, has anyone else had similar issues? Is there a resolution to this?

Something that would surely fix the issue is reinstalling the stock firmware. That may be a little drastic, however I am sure it will work. I know my way with fixing software issues but mostly only on rooted devices. Good luck!

I have no idea how to do that. I guess it's quite a process...
Could you explain it to me like I'm five year old please.
