Just wanna share my experience with my usb port on the phone. Last night my phone fell off my counter, roughly 3 foot fall. It was still attached to the usb,and did not disconnect. Then the problems started to manifest. Firstly phone was giving error 42 on Windows. (Usb device corrupted). Secondly no charger will charge it correctly. Gives slow charge error. After many attempts at finding the cuase with no luck. I noticed the usb port wiggled. Pressing the plugged in cable up forced proper connection. This is the only way to charge phone now,by holding usb bent upwards. So the fall plugged in damaged the port. So just in case anyone else gets this error, you know what to check for.

i have an HD with Dutty 3.9 since 2 months.
some weeks ago, a strange problems happened: when i plug charger to HD, nothing happens (no charge) if i check the option "when device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to pc". If i "uncheck" this option, charging process starts.... but charging is slower than normal....as if HD was connected to PC.....
anyone has the same problem?
any suggestion?
Are you charging your phone through the computer or?
Because on the USB port of your computer there is less power then on your electricity net.
So its pretty normal that your phone is charged slower via computer.
If this is not the situation, then i think my help stops here, sorry.
Check both ends of the cables and sockets for crap inside. I guess its possible a short somewhere is causing the phone to think its attached to a PC instead of just the charager. That could cause the phone to only demand a max of ~500mA (the max a USB socket can support). I dont know anything about the charging circuits of the phone, but It would we worth checking the cable and sockets even if my guess is wrong.
thanks for answer
i have this problem with original htc charger (usb cable+transformer), and with an "after market" charger.....
if i connect hd to charger (and NOT to pc, but to electric net), everything seems as i connect to a pc....
it could be an hardware problem of phone (i hope no) or it could be a rom problem that could be fixed with hard reset o, i hope, editing the right key....
Just starting yesterday, when I plug my phone into my computer all it does is charge. No option to mount, no "usb not recognized", nothing. I can get into download mode but Odin doesn't recognize it.
I've searched dozens of other threads, tried most suggestions and can't seem to get anything to work. Suggestions would be appreciated.
Maybe you don't have drivers or bad USB I have 2 one only charges the other does both

I have the drivers, I've had no problems connecting previously. I've rebooted the phone multiple times.
Out of 3 galaxy s type devices: 1 doesn't even charge anymore, 1 charges but wont do data and 1 works if the cable is held at an angle. I think samsung can't make usb ports
I'm just now about to start a post asking how to change roms with out my usb. I had the same problem start months ago. First things where normal. Then, every now and then I would have to re plug the usb cable into the port to get it to mount. Then finally one time it just all together stopped working. I can charge, the charging icon comes up but no mounting options.
On the bright side, this is the first phone I have ever owned that I can just sync over wifi. And at least its not an apple device, if charging stops I can get an external battery charger ; )

My vibe is over a year old and I never close the door on the usb port. When I had the same issue as the OP it was a dirty usb port. I carefully cleaned it, which took a few times and it finally worked. Do it with the battery pulled. The loose port is caused from the male end of the original cable not the phone so I bought a new cable and it fits snug.
I've had my Galaxy S2 for 4 months now and now have a problem. When I plug the phone in, whether to USB or to the charger, it takes it a bit to recognize the phone is plugged in and to start charging. When I plug it in to USB it will charge after a minute, but I can not connect my phone to be mass storage. Windows can't detect it at all. If I disconnect the usb cable, my phone still thinks it is connected, with the notification for USB connection staying in the notification bar. In addition to this, my phone gets excessively hot regularly. I always make sure there isn't a runaway app, but that doesn't seem to matter.
Any one have any ideas?
I found a thread that describes my problem here.

I think I have solved the problem. I somehow managed to bend the USB pcb connector. I bent it back up towards the screen and everything is acting normal again. Read the link above for more information
So, I apparently did something very stupid with my new Nexus 7.
I have a few 1 TB external hard drives, which don't get enough power via an OTG adapter from the Nexus 7 to run. So, I purchased a two into one cable -- that is, a cable that combines two male USB A plugs into one Micro USB B plug so that a USB 3.0 hard drive can use two USB 2.0 ports to have enough power. I had planned to use this to enable use of the hard drives with the Nexus 7 while traveling by plugging one cable in the tablet and the other into a charger.
When I got the cable I tested it by plugging one of the USB A plugs into my Nexus 7, and then I plugged the other into my computer's USB port. The Nexus 7 promptly shut down, the computer complained of a power surge on the USB port, and a distinct smell of melted plastic came from the computer's USB port. I guess the combining cable didn't combine so much as it just acted like a double headed male A USB cable and shorted things out?
The Nexus 7 refused to restart afterwards until I it plugged it into its charger. It works now, mostly. However, if its battery charge is above about eighty-seven percent then it always reports that it is charging, regardless if it is plugged in or not. And if I plug it into a computer while it is reporting that it is charging I have to restart the tablet to get it to connect to the computer -- I guess it thinks it is connected to a charger and doesn't bother checking for a data connection unless restarted.
The level where it stops thinking it's charging varies somewhat -- I've had it still claim to be charging all the way down to eighty-two percent charge, and by repeatedly opening the battery app over and over again I have been able to get it to notice that it's really not charging all the way up to ninety-one percent, but no higher, and I have to open and close the battery app an increasing number of times for every percent that it goes up over eighty-seven before it will notice it's not charging.
Any idea what kind of damage I'm looking at? How to fix it? Whether I can get the warranty people to fix it free of charge? If yes, whether they will send me a new one or just fix the one I have? Whether it's worth getting fixed since it mostly still works, and doesn't really bother me as long as it doesn't get worse?
Nothing?
Nothing from anyone?
Try replacing the internal USB plug? About $25. Easy to do your self.
I have been facing the issue of slow charging from 3 days now. It takes 9-10 hrs to charge completely. Interestingly I just plugged my phone to my PC and USB not recognized pops up every time. I tried changing USB Cables and Chargers , nothing helped. I think these two issues are closely related and some chip is blown up inside. Any idea if what could be causing this?
Use custom kernels
you find the solution ???? please help me if u can !!!
Same issue happened with me when actually Imy phone was bricked,I changed and used other usb cable, then I got solved my issue, then after 3 months, tht cable stopped to work only for my mobile (works in other mobiles still),so I have to keep changing cord n adaptor for fast charging, now iam currently using Moto turbo charging,n from 6 months it's working properly,n never use phone while charging
if pc says that the last usb you plugged is malfunction... than thats the problem with me also.. i guess phone usb port is damage some how... coz my phone also takes 5hrs to charge and pc plug say usb malfunction
You need to get your motherboard change if usb charging board is not seperate. i experienced the sam eissue on my zenfone 5, i did a thourough check, even bought its psu and relaced it. turns out its motherboard was buggy and a slight water drop on the cable mouth caused this issue. better get it replaced if its still in warranty else you will have to buy a new mobo.

I have same problem you have to change mobile usb charger connector i.e. charging port of mobile. then it will be solved.
Dude do these 3 :
1.check with another adaptor, along with ampere app make sure charging is 2A
2. Change the usb configuration, dont charge from pc it chaarges slow bcoz its DC
3. Change your rom, use custom ones or reflash whatever u r on.
