USB Issues - Vibrant General

Just starting yesterday, when I plug my phone into my computer all it does is charge. No option to mount, no "usb not recognized", nothing. I can get into download mode but Odin doesn't recognize it.
I've searched dozens of other threads, tried most suggestions and can't seem to get anything to work. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Maybe you don't have drivers or bad USB I have 2 one only charges the other does both

Reboot the phone

I have the drivers, I've had no problems connecting previously. I've rebooted the phone multiple times.

Out of 3 galaxy s type devices: 1 doesn't even charge anymore, 1 charges but wont do data and 1 works if the cable is held at an angle. I think samsung can't make usb ports

I'm just now about to start a post asking how to change roms with out my usb. I had the same problem start months ago. First things where normal. Then, every now and then I would have to re plug the usb cable into the port to get it to mount. Then finally one time it just all together stopped working. I can charge, the charging icon comes up but no mounting options.
On the bright side, this is the first phone I have ever owned that I can just sync over wifi. And at least its not an apple device, if charging stops I can get an external battery charger ; )

My vibe is over a year old and I never close the door on the usb port. When I had the same issue as the OP it was a dirty usb port. I carefully cleaned it, which took a few times and it finally worked. Do it with the battery pulled. The loose port is caused from the male end of the original cable not the phone so I bought a new cable and it fits snug.

[Q] USB Port Shorted out?

nHey guys I have a bit of an issue. Over the last few days I noticed my vibrant was starting to think there was a USB cable plugged in constantly. In the notification bar, it had the 2 boxes for enabling the SD card reader, and disabling usb debugging. After a soft or hard reset, it would persist. I was on Nero v5, but just flashed the most recent Bionix Rom to see if that fixed it. Still it did the same. Tonight, I plugged in the usb cable I always use for charging, and the phone ended up constantly thinking it was charging. I pulled the battery, and now am unable to boot the phone, because it thinks it is "charging". Any help would be great.
Edit: Update: I am able to boot the phone correctly if I plug it in while off, let the phone begin charging, and then hivt the power key.
You might have some debris in the usb port, and usb debugging is on by default with most TW roms. See if you cant blow it out with some canned air and you cant turn off usb debugging in the settings>applications>developement
I've had this problem intermittently since purchasing my soft bricked ebay special. It seems to go away after a few days from the time the rom was loaded for me though.

I have usb problems, too. It started like your issues, then progressed into pc-phone troubles. Now, none of my computers can "talk" to my phone. No odin, no removable storage, no tethering, no adb. The phone works fine, otherwise. If the phone is off, plugging it in to charge will turn it on. I've heard that clockwork has a bug that is causing these troubles.
I can flash roms, kernels, modems, but can't be adventurous without odin.
My problem wasn't as severe, but I called t-mobile nonetheless and they said it was a known issue and immediately sent a replacement.

Well today I took the phone apart down to the motherboard, and went through it with a can of compressed air. Didnt help at all sadly.
For the time being, I just disabled USB debugging because I hate having the 2 usb related icons. I might give tmo a ring, but even though I bought the phone NIB, it was off ebay, so I doubt I will be able to get a replacement. If I am correct, rubbing alcohol will NOT mess up any electrical contacts right? I thought about getting a small dropper or something and trying to "flush out" the port. While I was in there, the soldering joints looked fine, and I saw no corrosion or anything similar.
Don't discount the possibility of a bad cable. My original one drains my phone instead of charging it. Luckily I had already ordered a couple of more cables (unfortunately shorter ones) and they work fine.

Keeps charging when there is no USB cable plugged it

Here is a head scratcher....
I have a Samsung Fascinate from Verizon, and just recently updated to the new 2.2, I now have no usb functions at all. Tried several times to install/reinstall/turn off/turn on pc, phone, etc to no avail... all I get now is USB is not recognized
here is the weird part,
when I unplug the USB from the phone it keeps charging.... is it really charging because it shows it is!!
try toggling USB debugging. It's under settings>applications>development.
If that doesn't work, I'd suggest uninstalling your Samsung drivers, reboot PC, reinstall drivers and see if your phone is recognized.
If that doesn't work and you can get your hands on another set of Samsung cables, try that out, as that happened to be my problem a few weeks ago.
I had this happen a while back. The PC would not recognize the phone at all, driver replacement didn't help, odin wouldn't recognize it either. I also experienced the charging indicator remaining on after the phone was unplugged. Remained this way for a couple of weeks. I tried multiple cables, ports, and computers.
It sounds screwy, but the only cause I could find was a dirty connector/cable. One evening, I cleaned out the cable connector and port on the phone with a piece of paper dampened with isopropyl alcohol. Following this action, the usb connected for the first time in two weeks, but not every time. Multiple cleanings were required and eventually the usb connection became reliable again. I haven't experienced the problem since.
Can't explain it but there it is. YMMV.

same here, dropped phone over winter, salt prob got into the connector where it charges. battery meter would change wildly and wouldnt connect to usb. Cleaned usb port with a little iso alcohol and a thick piece of paper and it was perfect.
Mine did the same thing. It would and would not charge. Then it would keep charging after unplugging. I took it to Verizon and they gave me a new phone. No questions asked.

Sry, if your saying your still stock then what are you installing reinstalling? If you don't wish to deviate from stock then taking it back for replacement might be your only option as it may be physical.

Download Mode Issues

Hey guys,
I am running Binox Next Gen V2 and it was running great until a week ago. I am ahving issues where when I plug the phone in the charger it doesnt charge, but when I unplug it says "Battery low. Please Plug in charger to keep using." When the phones on and I connect it to the computer Odin picks it up however, when i actually go into downlad mode and plug in the usb cable nothing happens..My computer beeps twice and odin doesn't pick it up either..
Any suggestions on what's wrong or what could be causing these issues?
Try looking at the pins on the bottom of the USB charging cable to see if any are pushed too far in, cuz I had both pins on my cable pushed in and the phone port wouldn't read it from time to time. If it is, just take a needle and bend them out again.

Can't charge with OEM Adaptor, Only with USB to PC

I'm having a charging issue and am lost on what else to try to fix this. I can't charge using my OEM adaptor and cable, only when connected to PC with USB. The USB cable that works with my PC is the same one I use with the adaptor.
The USB port is on my phone is good, charges fine when connected to PC (although much slower because of different mVS). Read a suggestion to make sure the tab part of the USB connector isn't bent, it doesn't look damaged at all and like I said, has zero problems connecting to my laptop.
Have tried almost everything except going back to stock, and nothing fixes it. I've turned debugging mode off and back on, restored a backup from before the issue began, completely wiped and reinstalled 2 different build of ROMs with and without apps, fixed permissions, tried different kernels, different USB cables...
The adaptor is in good condition. But when plugged in while my phone is on, it doesn't recognize that's it's connected. Previously it would give a false charging reading. If my device is off, sometimes I would get the grey bar battery, but now it's just vibrating every few seconds. Idk what to do...
I have an i337m and am currently running slimkat weekly 6.2 but tried official 6.0 and restored a weekly 5.9 from before the issue began
I did format /data and /data/media (internal sdcard) I think right before the issue began in order to remove some old folded that would appear during cwm installations of zips from internal storage (e.g., hyperdrive for ex, which I haven't had installed since December) but that shouldn't screw up charging at all
Dude, you're trying way to hard. You're charger is messed up

I hope that's the case lol it worked for a bit last night until I unplugged it, then when I plugged it back in nothing happened... seems to only work if power cycled after being connected to my PC

USB Charging issues / Computer does not recognize while on

So this issue happened out of no where after my phone died to zero last night. I tried charging it back up but all I could get out of it was the grey charging battery but it would only stay on for 1-2 seconds shut down and reboot. Let it charging for an hour and got to about 1-2% and it would die as soon as it booted up. Factory restored to OA6 and still see the same issue. This is also the odd thing... I was able to connect it to my computer and use Oden to do the restore! After lots of troubleshooting, trying 4 chargers, I realized wireless charging still works fine. Charged it up 100% over night and wireless charging is still working fine and phone is working fine. Still cannot get USB to be recognized while on either by computer or from USB charger. With a full battery, phone off, and USB plugged in phone still flashes the grey battery icon and reboots constantly.
Only thing I can think of is I had it in my pocket after spin class for a little and moisture might have gotten in the port?
Any ideas what happened here?
Update: I ended up just buying the Nexus 6P since I'm about due for a new phone anyways.
Well just figured I would pass this along. Was bored before and looked at diagrams to fix the USB board and saw this little port in the back you can access really easy. Decided to open that up and press the connection down a little tighter (the USB board is separate from the main board). USB didn't work before doing this, then pressed it tighter plugged USB in again and it worked.
