Hi everyone. Today, I noticed that something is covering my front camera lens.
Do you know what is that piece covering the camera? Anyone encounter this situation?
I didn't drop my phone not even once and I tried to smack the top of the phone to see if it moves, but no luck.
P.S. The camera is able to take pictures normally.
I have a SM-N9005.
Thanks
Go exchange it... Looks like a faulty device. It could be a piece of electrical tape in the wrong position.

Looks like some sort of cover for the camera.
Maybe this site can help understand: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung+Galaxy+Note+3+Teardown/19209
But i think @nicholaschum 's solution will work best.

Hey you were right. Soon as i posted my issue, i thought i would watch a dismantle video and presto! It was a round rubber like washer that has slipped from around the camera.
All sorted now

I don't think they will consider to be a faulty device and change it, although I would like a new Note 3 :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
To me, it seems to be a soft plastic that keeps the front-camera in position and not to touch directly the front-panel (display assembly).
So, probably they will change/remove the soft plastic
GO to your provider an request a NEW device
Do this : Contact 1st Samsung Service in your country and tell to them the problem becouse this a factory fault phone .
After you make some papers and a proove that you contacted already the samsung Service from your country , contact your seller and show him the problem
YOU MUST proove that : you did NOT DROPED your PHONE , DID NOT SHOCKED YOUR PHONE with some other things , like drop with speed in bed trow in the pillow etc etc , proove that you did not used any screwdriver , to have ORANGE WATER SENSOR in the back under the battery STILL ORANGE and NO ROOTED PHONE .
THEY WILL CHANGE YOUR DEVICE , BECOUSE IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FIX THAT IS A PART OF A PLASTIC THAT WAS SLIPPERED FROM HIS PLACE .

Sorry, can you clarify if you are throwing your phone on the ground in an effort to fix this? If so, stop. Seriously, don't do it.
Looks like dirt on the lens. Is it on every picture you take?

That's not going to stop it suffering shock damage and the silicone case will NOT protect the phone to that much of an extent. *!&*%

Did you clean the lense?
I'm guessing that dirt has probably got on to the inside made worse by your throwing the phone onto the ground (I hope that's a joke I really do....)

I agree with this but to me it looks like maybe small pieces of broken plastic or glass between the lens.. the only way to remove this would be to open the phone and clean it out, I wouldn't recommend doing this yourself though.. maybe try to contact your local HTC repair centre and see if they would be able to do this for you.
@ronalgps: sounds like you have maybe dislodged the camera or broken the connection in some way from the fall.. as I said above try to contact your local HTC repair centre and see if they can fix this for you.

like I said.. sounds like something is in between the lens so depending on how much you move the phone maybe they move out of place for a while.
Hey! I just replaced a broken screen and it went quite well, aside from the fact that my mic is not really working as it should anymore (it sounds like I am really far away whenever I speak). After the reassembly, I noticed one plastic piece which for the life of me I cannot find a suitable place for. Does anyone know where it is supposed to go?
I've never had that piece loose after replacing my screen (I've gone through 4!!).
The microphone problem seems to be a common problem with screen replacements (judging by xda, other forums and product reviews). I don't know a fix for that, but wanted to let you know it seems to be everyone

Haha ok, no I haven't been able to spot it n any how-to video or anything so I am completely stumped. Does anyone know if the mic problem is fixable? Been googling a bit without result.
Edit: " end of my woes.
I had the same thing as adam in the end. its the little orange silicon bit that shields the microphone. it fits into the fornt cover near the microphone hole. I accidentally threw it away with the old cover and then had the problem. I had to buy a complete new casing in the edn but it is working fine now.
Chris"
Found this in another thread, but... Hmmm, I know of the three orange parts and I have taken good care of them. None of those are clowe to the mic though, or perhaps I am mixing up the mic with somethng else? Oh well, there was somethng else about a rubber part behind the display, perhaps I'll just stick my rubber thingie in there. Yup.

I think I know what Chris was referring to, it's a rectangular red/orange silicone.... thing. I'll edit this with link to a video at the time it appears, when I get to a computer that is.

Thank you! I will open it up again tonight and see if I can fix it. Apparently I also managed to cause some problem with the headset since the right earpiece no longer works. Only the left one... Seems like i really shouldnt do these kinds of repair work myself.
Edit: i think I used too much glue a the bottom while fastening the screen and that is why the mic is not working as it should. Just putting it here so others might take t ny consideration if they see this post. Guess the only way to fixit is to buy a new front.
I am having a very hard time removing the rear cover. I've removed the two screws but I still can't seem to get any of my plastic case opening tool in. What gives? I'm almost questioning the importance of those two screws...

I'm posting this as a guide to repairing your GPS at the hardware level after a teardown. So you decided to replace your broken screen, or put on some fancy back cover on your M8. Or even sent in your phone for repair just get it back with no GPS lock. You notice your phone sees satellites but can't get a fix/lock because the signal is to low. Simple fix. I've attached some images to help explain the process.
First you need to remove the back cover. Just the back cover. (This is a nice tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDsZLl_JzwA )
Second. Locate ITEM #1 at the top of the phone shown in the attached pictures. This is a copper metal tab that bends easily. My guess, this get bent during teardown.
Third. Locate ITEM #2 on the back cover shown in the attached pictures. This is a contact point for ITEM #1.
Fourth. Bend ITEM #1 so it contacts ITEM #2 when you reassemble the back cover. That's it.
Fifth. Download GPS Statues from the market and test your GPS.
Sixth. Hit the thanks button and enjoy a beer.
thank you
very nice idea and saved my day/week/month.... i tried everything regarding software, firmware and rom but nothing would help.
at the same time when i flashed to another rom i tried to fix my speaker and i had to remove the speaker cover.... i never thought of a hardware problem but my GPS is functioning well again now.

I couldn't find this copper tab (maybe the reason why mine isn't working), but I also couldn't see it in the video you linked to?

Yeah. Hard to see it in the video. That's just for teardown. Best is to check the pics. That tab should be at the top of the phone next to the power button. Unless yours is missing altogether. It is pretty flimsy.

Ouch! Not sure. I think it's soldiered to the board. You may want to use a generic piece of metal and just sandwich it place. It just has to touch the case.

Any luck with your attempt to fix this with that tab gone? This also happened to me after I had swapped colors. Love the phone but I need GPS lock.

Does anyone have a better picture of the tab? I think mine is broken off, but I can't tell from the blurry pictures. I tried stuffing aluminum foil in the gap, but I'm not sure if I'm touching the correct points. The phone is now locking a few satellites, but only barely enough - and it is super slow. This is better than without the foil, but not a ton better.
Thanks so much for sharing the info!
This fixed my no GPS locks after a back/case change.
I did break the metal clip slightly, so be very gentle, but kitchen foil did the trick.
ut.
My front camera just suddenly got bad. The photos, before the snap are usually perfect(no blur) but after, they get blurry and there's a kind of light that appears on camera, like rays from the sun.
Try updating Android or using a different camera app.
Maybe dust particle inside phone is causing this issue !!
Remove back plate and try to tight the uper screws it might help you

It's not a software prob. It's the camera itself. It happens with all camera apps when I try to use the front camera
