Camera issue - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My front camera just suddenly got bad. The photos, before the snap are usually perfect(no blur) but after, they get blurry and there's a kind of light that appears on camera, like rays from the sun.

Try updating Android or using a different camera app.

Maybe dust particle inside phone is causing this issue !!

Remove back plate and try to tight the uper screws it might help you

It's not a software prob. It's the camera itself. It happens with all camera apps when I try to use the front camera

Sorry, can you clarify if you are throwing your phone on the ground in an effort to fix this? If so, stop. Seriously, don't do it.
Looks like dirt on the lens. Is it on every picture you take?

That's not going to stop it suffering shock damage and the silicone case will NOT protect the phone to that much of an extent. *!&*%

Did you clean the lense?
I'm guessing that dirt has probably got on to the inside made worse by your throwing the phone onto the ground (I hope that's a joke I really do....)

I agree with this but to me it looks like maybe small pieces of broken plastic or glass between the lens.. the only way to remove this would be to open the phone and clean it out, I wouldn't recommend doing this yourself though.. maybe try to contact your local HTC repair centre and see if they would be able to do this for you.
@ronalgps: sounds like you have maybe dislodged the camera or broken the connection in some way from the fall.. as I said above try to contact your local HTC repair centre and see if they can fix this for you.

like I said.. sounds like something is in between the lens so depending on how much you move the phone maybe they move out of place for a while.

[Q] Completely blurry pictures! Autofocus software bug or defect camera??

I really need your help on this one guys!
I unpacked my brand new Nexus 4 yesterday. Everything seemed fine until I fired up the camera app. Everything was really blurry and the autofocus didn't seem to work at all! We're not talking about some minor autofocusing problem here, but a huge deal breaking disaster...
I then also noticed that when I moved the camera really close to an object, the image got sharp! So, it's like it's in macro mode all the time or something. I've tried to restart the phone, factory reset etc. NOTHING works! The worst part is that I can't even go to google and replace it, because I live in Finland and got the phone brought home to me by a friend who visited USA... Is there anything I can do to make it work?
I also tried a third party camera app (camera zoom fx) in which there were several focusing modes, like macro, normal, auto and infinity mode. Didn't matter which mode I used, there was no differens..
Have any of you guys experienced the same problem? I know there's been a lot of talk about the Nexus 4 camera, but I could never have imagined that a brand new flagship phone would have these kind of problems right out of the box. Please help me.
This may sound a bit stupid, but you have tried simply cleaning the glass over the lens and checking it for scratches right? You seem to have tried a fair amount of things so it's likely to be a hardware issue of some sort.
Not trying to be a smart ass, but did you remove the plastic film off of the backside. I made that mistake before with a different phone. The film was barely noticeable because it was only over the camera lens from inside the cover, so I just thought the phone had a sorry camera. Otherwise, it sounds like you could have a defective camera.
Also when you take a picture, hold the button until the focus ring rotates and locks on the 12 o'clock position, then let go of the button.

Possible slow camera fix on S4

I do not have S4 but I am considering getting it and I read about that slow picture taking issue.
On http://www.networkworld.com/community/blog/one-month-later-do-i-still-love-my-galaxy-s4, I found this:
Figured out a fix for blurry/slow to focus pictures. After removing all the little plastic pieces on the phone it turns out there is a very thin, hard to detect donut shaped piece of plastic over the lens. It takes a bit of scraping around the edge of the lens to even find it but its there. It causes the camera to focus slowly and alters light getting into the lens. Believe me its there and if you fool around until you find it and get it off the lens it makes all the difference in the world. I found this fix by googling "s4 blurry photos". Showed it to a salesman at BestBuy today, he had been hearing people complain about the blurry pics. He didn't believe me at first but then said "wait there is something there" peeled it off and BAM problem solved. Hope this helps!

[Q] What is covering my front camera lens?

Hi everyone. Today, I noticed that something is covering my front camera lens.
Do you know what is that piece covering the camera? Anyone encounter this situation?
I didn't drop my phone not even once and I tried to smack the top of the phone to see if it moves, but no luck.
P.S. The camera is able to take pictures normally.
I have a SM-N9005.
Thanks
Go exchange it... Looks like a faulty device. It could be a piece of electrical tape in the wrong position.

Looks like some sort of cover for the camera.
Maybe this site can help understand: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung+Galaxy+Note+3+Teardown/19209
But i think @nicholaschum 's solution will work best.

Hey you were right. Soon as i posted my issue, i thought i would watch a dismantle video and presto! It was a round rubber like washer that has slipped from around the camera.
All sorted now

I don't think they will consider to be a faulty device and change it, although I would like a new Note 3 :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
To me, it seems to be a soft plastic that keeps the front-camera in position and not to touch directly the front-panel (display assembly).
So, probably they will change/remove the soft plastic
GO to your provider an request a NEW device
Do this : Contact 1st Samsung Service in your country and tell to them the problem becouse this a factory fault phone .
After you make some papers and a proove that you contacted already the samsung Service from your country , contact your seller and show him the problem
YOU MUST proove that : you did NOT DROPED your PHONE , DID NOT SHOCKED YOUR PHONE with some other things , like drop with speed in bed trow in the pillow etc etc , proove that you did not used any screwdriver , to have ORANGE WATER SENSOR in the back under the battery STILL ORANGE and NO ROOTED PHONE .
THEY WILL CHANGE YOUR DEVICE , BECOUSE IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FIX THAT IS A PART OF A PLASTIC THAT WAS SLIPPERED FROM HIS PLACE .

Did my daughter compromise my LG G6s waterproofing?

Hello everyone. This may sound extremely silly, but let me start at the begining. I bought a brand new LG G6 for myself, as for an upgrade over my old Huawei P8. I inserted my nano sim, turned the phone on, did the whole fresh start thing, and had to leave for a couple of seconds to get something from the other room. As i got back, i noticed that my daughter (4yo) got to the phone and started pinching the top microphone whole with the sim needle. I dont know if she did any damage. I checked the mics by recording, covering each one and whispering very delicately into each of them, and they both work fine. But, what about the waterproofing? Has she, possibly, done any damage? If i try to put the needle in there, It does go in almost all the way before stopping on something ( im not pushing it, just letting it go in freely ). on the bottom mic, it stops freely somewhere right before the middle. I appreciate all the help. Thanks if advance plus I apologize for my bad english. Cheers from Poland.
Don't worry mine's the same. Almost all the way in on the upper by own force if letting it go and only halfway on the bottom one.
THANKS MATE! Im so relieved. Can you also shake your by the ear to see if there is any sort of sound coming from the inside? I got this delicate vibration when rapidly shaking it. Thought its cause of my daughter tinkering with the thang lol!

Yes I can hear it too. Probably the autofocus parts of the camera as they almost always are a tad lose.
