I'm posting this as a guide to repairing your GPS at the hardware level after a teardown. So you decided to replace your broken screen, or put on some fancy back cover on your M8. Or even sent in your phone for repair just get it back with no GPS lock. You notice your phone sees satellites but can't get a fix/lock because the signal is to low. Simple fix. I've attached some images to help explain the process.
First you need to remove the back cover. Just the back cover. (This is a nice tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDsZLl_JzwA )
Second. Locate ITEM #1 at the top of the phone shown in the attached pictures. This is a copper metal tab that bends easily. My guess, this get bent during teardown.
Third. Locate ITEM #2 on the back cover shown in the attached pictures. This is a contact point for ITEM #1.
Fourth. Bend ITEM #1 so it contacts ITEM #2 when you reassemble the back cover. That's it.
Fifth. Download GPS Statues from the market and test your GPS.
Sixth. Hit the thanks button and enjoy a beer.
thank you
very nice idea and saved my day/week/month.... i tried everything regarding software, firmware and rom but nothing would help.
at the same time when i flashed to another rom i tried to fix my speaker and i had to remove the speaker cover.... i never thought of a hardware problem but my GPS is functioning well again now.

I couldn't find this copper tab (maybe the reason why mine isn't working), but I also couldn't see it in the video you linked to?

Yeah. Hard to see it in the video. That's just for teardown. Best is to check the pics. That tab should be at the top of the phone next to the power button. Unless yours is missing altogether. It is pretty flimsy.

Ouch! Not sure. I think it's soldiered to the board. You may want to use a generic piece of metal and just sandwich it place. It just has to touch the case.
thanks man i will try it!!

Any luck with your attempt to fix this with that tab gone? This also happened to me after I had swapped colors. Love the phone but I need GPS lock.

Does anyone have a better picture of the tab? I think mine is broken off, but I can't tell from the blurry pictures. I tried stuffing aluminum foil in the gap, but I'm not sure if I'm touching the correct points. The phone is now locking a few satellites, but only barely enough - and it is super slow. This is better than without the foil, but not a ton better.
Thanks so much for sharing the info!
This fixed my no GPS locks after a back/case change.
I did break the metal clip slightly, so be very gentle, but kitchen foil did the trick.

My Wizard's always done this. I've had it apart and couldn't fix it, so have settled for using a couple of turns of sellotape around the tip end of the stylus. Do it neatly and you can't see it, and it works nicely.
Ric
i put two small pieces of insulating tape in the hole where the stylus goes... it seems to hold well. i have attached a image. good luck

Hi,
It looks the same size - does it really stay in place more than the original, if so I'll get one!!
Thanks Matt
Tape: £1.39
Time out from work to craft the end of the tape to suit the exec: £4.50
The look on my other half's face when I prove the stylus will stay put: Priceless.
For most things you can use your Mastercard, for everything else, there's insulating tape.
P.S. I used black so it doesn't look so conspicious... is it vain or just the geek in me?
Best wishes,
i just wrapped a little tape around the stylus, just where the plastic meets the metal, works great, had it in situ around 4/5 months now

Not dropped out of my Exec yet. Funny thing is, I didn't think it would last long so I also bought a pack of 3 stock Stylus. Never used them. Hope I never will.
The new one has been in since Dec 06, used daily, and still going strong.

my stylus wud come out as if cheese but then i lifted the black part little up and now it stays in it place
Best thing is to actually get one of those 3-in one styli. They are actually a little thicker, which means they stay in a lot better. Mobile Fun sell them. Just google them and fine oneone.

Sorry, can you clarify if you are throwing your phone on the ground in an effort to fix this? If so, stop. Seriously, don't do it.

I agree with this but to me it looks like maybe small pieces of broken plastic or glass between the lens.. the only way to remove this would be to open the phone and clean it out, I wouldn't recommend doing this yourself though.. maybe try to contact your local HTC repair centre and see if they would be able to do this for you.
@ronalgps: sounds like you have maybe dislodged the camera or broken the connection in some way from the fall.. as I said above try to contact your local HTC repair centre and see if they can fix this for you.

like I said.. sounds like something is in between the lens so depending on how much you move the phone maybe they move out of place for a while.
Ok First time Posting, hope this is the right place
after having so much help from here, decided to register.
Basically im installing a new digitizer, i have the old digitizer out and new one in.
Just wondering if it will be safe to put the smallest possible amount of glue (only thing available) on the plastic around the digitizer, to hold it against the housing and stop it falling forward???
If not anyone know what i can use to hold it in place?
p.s i mean smallest!
again new here hope this is in the right place
thanks in advance
EDIT: Gave up on waiting to see if this was safe or not so just went ahead and did it All Seems fine phones working fine

Chris,
I saw your video and it really helped me repairing my gf's phone, thanks. But I really wish you went this bit further and had shown how to properly replace digitizer too. After some struggling I have succeeded but I'm pretty sure that I screwed both with removal and replacement (digitizer works but has poor sensitivity, doesn't react to finger push, requires light nail stroke).
Cheers.

Im making a video tomoro , to show how to how to remove/replace the digitizer, it might help in the long run.
Sorry, I've been saying I would post this for a while now.
It's not as thorough as it could be but it's a start.
Ask questions and contribute to it (pictures most welcome) to improve on it.
Also this doesn't go through the full process of replacing the digitizer, but hopefully you can work it out. Again, if anyone wants to contribute a more thorough guide on doing this they are most welcome to.
Cheers man
Awesome stockwell. Much appreciated. Looks easy enough. Now i can replace my cracked screen.
Now to find someone on ebay to buy it off.
Thanks stockwell. I was looking forward to seeing it I will try to open my broken u8800 tomorrow.
nice post stockwell.
If I had this tutorial in the beginning of September it would have saved me €60 from official repair.
I could do the repair easily myself, but I didn't know how to remove the upper part of the housing, near the camera and I was afraid of damaging even more. And looks so easy
Thanks Stockwell !
Thanks .. I have passed it my self last friday.. have you noticed the small plastic between the sim and sd card.. it holds the rj connection.
Just reminder, after battery cover and battery you should remove camera cover as it hold two from six screws.. always take care..
Finally, my device is u8800h

I like the sushi mat backdrop!
There isn't anywhere in there that could be an HDMI connection is here, what's behind the cover beside the volume switch? How about JTAG?
Thanks stockwell.
I've been wondering about this for some time now because I got some dust on the inside screen and I wanted to clean it up. I know that I might lose the warranty but it's all good. The phone it's cheap anyways.
Jtag, yeah! Can we see what happens with fm radio? Any trace to indicate is connected?

Lol it was either the sushi mat or my VB bar mat.
There are a group of test points which you can actually get to by pulling out the little rubber stopper near the sim card tray, which to me screamed JTAG when I saw them. There's a little moisture activated warranty sticker covering them as well.
I can't really see a place for a HDMI connector, certainly not near the volume rocker.
HDMI is too far fetched.thx for the guide mate.

Bluetooth antenna
Is the Bluetooth antenna visible and does it look as if there any hope of improving the signal strength by either removing metallic bits nearby or something. I am seriously unimpressed by the signal strength - compared to my Nokia N95 for example.
I cannot use my BT headset if the device is in my trouser pocket, and even if I put the phone in a shirt pocket the signal drops out if I turn my head to one side.
With the Nokia, it is rock solid.
Thanks for that. I'm planning to open my U8800 tonight.

It was a bit long because I was extremely careful when detaching the back cover. I use something like a credit card to unlock it.
It seems a condensator has fried near the touchscreen controller. I'll buy a new one.

Hi everyone. Today, I noticed that something is covering my front camera lens.
Do you know what is that piece covering the camera? Anyone encounter this situation?
I didn't drop my phone not even once and I tried to smack the top of the phone to see if it moves, but no luck.
P.S. The camera is able to take pictures normally.
I have a SM-N9005.
Thanks

I don't think they will consider to be a faulty device and change it, although I would like a new Note 3 :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
To me, it seems to be a soft plastic that keeps the front-camera in position and not to touch directly the front-panel (display assembly).
So, probably they will change/remove the soft plastic
GO to your provider an request a NEW device
Do this : Contact 1st Samsung Service in your country and tell to them the problem becouse this a factory fault phone .
After you make some papers and a proove that you contacted already the samsung Service from your country , contact your seller and show him the problem
YOU MUST proove that : you did NOT DROPED your PHONE , DID NOT SHOCKED YOUR PHONE with some other things , like drop with speed in bed trow in the pillow etc etc , proove that you did not used any screwdriver , to have ORANGE WATER SENSOR in the back under the battery STILL ORANGE and NO ROOTED PHONE .
THEY WILL CHANGE YOUR DEVICE , BECOUSE IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FIX THAT IS A PART OF A PLASTIC THAT WAS SLIPPERED FROM HIS PLACE .
