[Q] Help i am new - unlock bootloader - root- flash kernel otg [SOLVED] - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody!
I am from Argentina, sorry for my bad english!
I have a Nexus 4. The phone had never a modification...
I want get root access in the phone, i understand that i have to unlock the bootloader but...
if i install CM (following the easy steps of the website get.cm), this process may unlock the bootloader automatically? And could give me root access?
And another question:
if i install CM (following the easy steps of the website get.cm)...
Can i then flash the phone with "franco.kernel" to get USB OTG?
Thanks and very sorry for my bad english!

You need to unlock the bootloader in order to flash a custom rom. But it's easy! Here is a guide (including how to root):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/help/guide-ultimate-nexus-4-root-guide-t2018179
About Franco Kernel... Franco's is AOSP based, CM is CAF. It may work, but with wrong colours (or it may cause bootloops). Look for a CM/CAF basedkernel with usb-otg support in the Development forum, or take a look at this thread:

Hello meatboy371, thanks for your answer...
So, does the installation program of CM does not unlock the bootloader? I have to do it manually?
Look this (is a website):
wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/CyanogenMod_Installer
Do I need to root my phone before installing?
No. You can have a rooted phone, or not. The installer doesn't care. However, to be in a supported configuration, you need to be running a stock ROM.
Do I need to unlock my bootloader first?
No, you don't. If your bootloader is locked, we'll unlock it for you.
So, can i install CM in my phone without any modifications?
And then, will the bootloader unlock automatically?
Thanks and sorry for my english!

The installer from Cyanogen WILL unlock your bootloader and root your N4 automatically, you don't need any third party app or doing it manually, I did it on my N4 when i got it and everything went fine BUT the process will erase everything on your phone, so be aware of what your doing.

When i have installed CM from Cyanogen, can i then put the franco.kernel for get OTG?
Very very thanks and sorry for my english!

I didn't know that CM installer unlocks the bootloader (i used to flash CM roms from recovery), thanks for the info.
About the kernel, you'll need to find a CM version of Franco's to work with CM roms, like I said before (look at development forum).
About the recovery, I don't know, but if it isn't changed by the CM installer, you can easily flash using fastboot. You can try TWRP, CMW or PhilZ, there are threads for those with step-by-step guides to flash.

Thanks meatboy371!!!
Thanks blusydays!!!

[Q] Unlock Bootloader Android 4.2.2

Hey Guys,
i downloaded the nexus 4 toolkit. the latest build (4.2.2) isn´t shown there.
i dunno which version is included in the stock n4. i will get it in a few hours and i just wanted to ask, if my plan is gonna work xD
1. update to the latest version
2. unlock bootloader
3. customrecovery
4. flash rom
the only problem i am facing now, is that i don´t know if the toolkit can unlock the latest bootloader, because "JDQ39" isn´t shown as listed device. or should i unlock the bootloader on a previous version, the stock delivered (i don´t think it will come with 4.2.2) and then install the stock image? as i know from my galaxy nexus the bootloader will be unlocked after that. but i´m not sure how it is with the nexus4.
i hope someone can help me. it might be a noobquestion. i just want to make sure that everything works fast, because this nexus4 is a present for my sister and she´s waiting for it

Normaly it should work, allthough it is not the exact firmware the procedure stays the same. So you should be good.
But between item 3 and 4 comes flashing the superSU zip with CWM/TWRP from here http://download.chainfire.eu/315/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.25.zip. After reboot you also have to install Busybox from Google play, after that make a nandroid backup in recovery and then flash the rom.
mmh don´t need root in my case, if the recovery will be installed by toolkit, root will be included in the rom anyways

Root is not achieved by flashing a ROM.

It can indeed be achieved that way. If you have an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery then you still might not have root, but you could just flash a pre-rooted custom ROM.

Don't use the toolkit, it's easy to do manually. That way you will learn more about the steps involved, which will come in very handy if you have a problem with the phone in the future.

[Q] I want to root my LG Optimus L7

I have tried a million ways but none were successful. I have an LG Optimus L7 that is super slow and I want to make it faster by rooting it. I am running Android 4.1.2, my Kernel-version is 3.4.0, my Build-number is JZO54K and my Softwareversion is P70020d-EUR-XX.
Thanks in advance.
Try Framaroot app - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276
After installing it, just choose Gandalf and it will inform you of the results. I rooted this way my v20c 4.1.2 JB.
Thanks, do you also know how I can overclock my phone so it will run much faster?

if you are on a custom rom, i think it has a OC kernel
Sorry for sounding possibly retarded, but I really have no clue what a custom ROM is and what an OC Kernel is, can you maybe explain me how I install all of this stuff?
i can better give you an example of custom rom, CM - cyanogenmod
you know we don`t have android 4.2.2 or 4.3 but we have roms, made by developers , as CM, which is based on Android version 4.2.2 or 4.3
Is like you are using JB 4.2.2, but a better one, with no useless apps on it
OC - overclock , you know, you have , on l7, a kernel with 1000 MHz, you can overclock it to 1300, if i am not wrong, but, this can in time to make demage to your cpu if you are using it very much
First of all, thanks for the clear explanation. Secondly, if I install a custom ROM, will I still be able to download stuff using the Play Store? Like WhatsApp and Snapchat? And how do I install a custom ROM?

if you want, i made a tutorial how to flash a custom rom on youtube, i can send you, it is called for LG L5, but is the same for all
Thank you so much for answering my questions! And yes, I'd love to see your tutorial. Please send it to me!

i said about CWM
install ROM Manager apk
and from there, install CWM, you can after reboot in CWM too
I think I did something wrong. I installed the ROM Manager and also installed Clockwork Recovery Mod, and when I rebooted my phone into recovery so I could install CM10 using my external SD Card I only got white lines. I removed my battery and restarted my phone and I had to configure every thing again as if it was going through a factory reset.
http://theunlockr.com/2013/06/07/how-to-flash-a-custom-recovery-on-the-lg-optimus-l7/
try this
maybe you need to unlock the bootlaoder too
This time I think it worked but when it went into that mode it said "Secure Boot Error" "Cause Verification Why".
Any idea how to fix this?

yes, look on that i gave to you, you have there how to unlock the bootloader
this is the problem, the bootlaoder needs to unlocked
The link to the CWM package is a 404 page, where can I find a different download link?
you said you installed cwm, just unlock the bootloader now
Right now it's installing the cm10 package with ROM Manager, but what do I have to do with that 'gapps' file? How do I install it and what is it?

Questions about CyanogenMod

Hey guys, I'm new here.Soon my new Nexus4 will arrive and i have some questions about installing cyanogenmod.
1.Can I install cyanogenmod with the new cm installer on this device??
2.If this is possible and i install cyanogenmod, how do i update the version if a newer one is released ??
3.I red that the cm intaller install a custom recovery too, if i dont like the cyanogen mod can i install other roms or i must do something before ??
4.If i use this cm installer i know that i will lose my warranty, am i right ?? And if yes, is there any posiblity to restore the phone to original state (i mean lock back the bootloader and others) ?
Thanks
On the same page of this forum is a Cyanogenmod Q & A thread, I would start there and READ.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
I prefer installing ROMs through a custom recovery because you can unlock the bootloader and install a custom recovery without disturbing the phone's existing ROM.

1) Yes
2) In Settings there will be an update option, you can also flash ZIP by downloading them from (http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=mako)
3) Yes, you can install other ROMS and gapps from recovery.
4) Yes, you can use google's stock images to restore your phone to original state.

Not actually, you need to flash it via fastboot after installing device drivers from your computer. Which is a small tool that comes with Android SDK. (You can find it everywhere)
But I am sure there are flashable recovery ZIPs for stock ROMs on this forum.

Here's a link to WUG's toolkit that can help with your Nexus 4: http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/
Being that you're a noob (just like me) you may want to try flashing things with the android SDK instead of a toolkit (not saying it's bad, I've actually never used it). I just started messing with my nexus 4 using the SDK and some of the write ups here and found them really helpful and I learned a lot. Then again, if you consider yourself computer illiterate (not saying you are, your choice) you may WANT to use the toolkit. Just my .02.

You can take it from get.cm

You can download app as an apk file from their site: http://beta.download.cyanogenmod.org/install
It is a Nexus device, so it is hard to brick it.
I have been using custom ROMS from first day I bought the device and I haven't got a problem. As I said you can revert back to stock ROM or just try another ROM.
No one can warrant you that everything will work and there is always a chance of brick, but not too much if you do everything right.
so just update to latest official version of kitkat and then i use that cm installer without anything to do before like root or unlock bootloader ?

[Q] [E610] How to unlock the bootloader?

Hi!
I would like to install the custom ROMs, but I don't know how to unlock the bootloader and install ClockWordMod after installing original 4.1.2. I've read some topics about unlocking the bootloader, but the informations which are written aren't understandable. So must I use dd or can I use adb?
no problem

Needing a straight forward answer on Root/Custom ROMs

Hi everyone,
Just spent the best part of 2 hours wondering how I go about installing some kind of custom recovery on my wife's Note 3 (SN9005) so I can run SlimKat on it.
It's currently running MJ7 firmware.
Question: Can this phone have a custom recovery installed so I can flash a different ROM?
I understand that the bootloader is "locked", but it seems that I can still go on my merry way and install a custom recovery and ROM, but Knox will flag that I've changed it.
Can someone please explain to me my options if that's ok?
Thanks very much
No one? :/
Any info would be great
Install ROM Toolbox Pro from the Google play store. You can get recovery installation within that.

How do you manage to think that?
Doesn't that just install a ROM? I didn't think it'd somehow install a different Recovery partition or anything. You'd need Root before installing Rom Toolbox Pro first though, so I'd need to find the best/easiest way to gain Root Access on this handset first.
Thanks

Bootloader is not locked. Just install CWM/TWRP using Odin, then boot into recovery and flash your ROM.
Knox will be broken, but otherwise you should be fine.
