I have stock running on my rooted S5, which by the way is the Canadian W8 model.
Read that ART works for the S5, so I enabled it, and what do you know, it started without crashing. As I only just did it, and barely used it, should I go back back to Dalvik?
Anyone know the pros and cons of using ART over Dalvik? I read that ART is still available experimental, so I just don't know if I should be using it or not.
All feedback is appreciated.

Dalvik, because it's stable.
After half a day of usage using ART, I encountered no errors. No massive battery drain although I think the battery drained slightly faster than it had using Dalvik.
I switched back to Dalvik, and am waiting for an awesome ROM and kernel to be developed and perfected so I can drop touchwiz. It's not bad, but too much crap is stuffed in.

This device is blazing fast most of the time, but it will inexplicably lock up, completely, for a few minutes at a time for seemingly no reason. Right now it's frozen on a youtube video and I can't turn it off or use the screen. The device is also unusable really when installing apps, and will lag heavily in Google Now sometimes.
Is this just me? Or 4.2.1?
Just you. My N7 is still operating at warp speed and doesn't lock up..

Are you stock? If so I heard people saying turning off the sync for currents will help, for Google now lag I feel its performs better if you turn off the hot word in setting. But with that you can't say Google and start voice search

I'm stock 4.2.1 and don't have those issues. I do have currents (and various other apps) disabled, so like previous response said try that. Otherwise maybe go with a factory reset.
When my gnex updated to 4.2 it's performance suffered until I factory reset, now it's been much better.

My best guess would be you have installed an app that is not compatible with 4.2.
How about posting a list of what you have installed, if you use multi-user, and if you are stock (not rooted), and we can give comments.
I agree. I'm running PA and rock solid. I was also rock solid on stock.
I've never had it lock up. I flashed a Trinity kernel once that caused sleep of death... but it was a known issue.

I have currents disabled. Which others do you have disabled?

I have a pretty decent amount of apps installed. I'll post them in a minute, but no, I'm not multi-user, and I'm stock. I'll root and put a new rom on this thing if it's worth it, I figured it'd be fine the way it came.
btw, here are my androbench results. Are these slow?

thanks, I'll try disabling those.
Over 100 apps in total, my andronbench write speed is clearly an error so just compare read and app open macros.
My apps open much faster than yours, which I'd put down to PA ROM and kernel. Maybe your write speed is a bit slow?
Can you download "forever gone" from market and try a full fill and delete? Apparently helps reset the memory controller to improve performance.

I did forever gone earlier today.
bump.
I just want to know if I should restore, root and flash a new rom on this thing. Can someone check out my androbench scores and tell me if they're normal?

I did a few searches and wasn't really able to pull up much in the way of battery tweaks, what's everyone doing in terms of this? I'm currently running stock rom, all I did was fully update after getting the phone from Sprint and then rooted and proceeded to install twrp using goomanager. I'm coming from the Galaxy S2 running calks GB build, so I'm used to 3 days of battery with heavy usage! I know this phone won't be able to achieve that right out of the gate with the current level of development going on, but I'm sure I can optimize it some how. I'd consider going to a custom ROM and kernel..flashing seems similar to the S2 but I'm nervous!

I've never heard good things about those kinds of apps...maybe because they didn't get along well with custom tweaks? Do they work well with stock setups?

Tried it... and if anything I got LESS battery life because it runs in the background constantly.
@vadyr56 Download KT SGS4 Kernel, I'd also recommend to download GSam Battery Monitor and see if you have anything running in the background a little too much!
I get phenomenal battery life with no tweaks stock rooted. I turn off most things since I don't use them and thats about it.

I have everything turned on (Google Now, all Samsung Goodies like Gestures, S-Voice Voice commands, etc.) and still manage to get a day and a half with like 3-5 hrs of on screen time.
Hey all,
For some reason lately I've noticed that my Nexus 4 has been slowing down. At least it feels that way. It's been much more laggy than ever before, and its just not as smooth and fast. I haven't done a reset since day 1, so maybe that's why?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
thats could be. if you have root, wipe your dalvik. if you dont have root, then factory resetting will wipe your dalvik among other things.
If you have root, try Greenify
Do you restart it occasionally?
Sent via Telnet
If you want it to work like day 1, back up your files and revert it to stock 4.2.2. I do it every now and then.
It's time to move on to any optimised ROM. I just got my N4 less than 13hours ago, and it's been running custom rom smoothly.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Maybe try doing a factory reset hope that helps. If the problem still exist try flashing a custom ROM and see if that help good luck Buddy

Hey does private mode work for anyone in ART? It works well on dalvik, but I tried out art and it didn't seem to work as well...Can anyone confirm or negate this?
Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I've heard that neither private mode or screen mirroring work on ART. Haven't tried it myself because of that.

Thanks for the heads up.. I knew ART was experimental and not fully working yet...

Thanks dude.. !! I think it's correct.:good:
I can indeed confirm that using the ART runtime mode will in fact prevent you from using Screen Mirroring and Private Mode.
I switched back to Dalvik and the those features were enabled and fully functional again.I felt that using ART sped up my system performance and my phone seemed smoother, but it could just be a placebo effect.
Is ART really THAT much better than Dalvik? Or is it marginally better? Perhaps, better on some phone than others?
I've you've never used ART runtime, you should try it. I'm using it on the latest CM11 nightly, and it sure does make a huge difference, especially in returning to the homepage and switching between apps. To do this, go to Developer Options>Select Runtime. Just thought I'd share this with anyone that wanted to try ART but was worried about stability problems.
Im using Art aswell, but I have no root,
the battery life has increased a lot
for now all apps that I have, run perfectly
Am using ART since a few months now on Stock Rom of Moto G and can tell there is a light difference in better performance.
Big difference in CM11 to me. Wasn't as big in the stock ROM for me, but still noticeable
ART is still under development. And real world performance is not very different ATM. AFAIK optimized dalvik may be faster ATM . Hopefully next release 4.4.3 will have more bug fixes and optimizations and faster ART as well .

Guys i got my phone with dalvik ofc then switched to art and then i turned back to dalvik is it okay to go again Art?

Yes, why not
I have enabled art before but im trying it again now and i cant seem to enable it. After the restart it didnt perform the "conversion" where in it converting all the apps. After the restart mine just look like a regular restart. And stays on dalvik. Does having a custom recovery affect it? I just installed twrp weeks ago.

Do you use xposed?
Oh yeah. Im using xposed. I forgot, ive read somewhere xposed is not compatible with art, right?
Sent from my XT1033 using Tapatalk
By my side, i was not so comfortable with ART. Had lags switching between menus, and when an app was intalled from play it freezed. That never happens with dalvik
Why should I use ART if some of my Apps do not work?
However, yes, it works much better
Personally I've had no problems with ART, and noticeably better performance. So much so that I tried out xposed, but deleted it because I wanted the performance of ART
I dont see the difference between ART and Dalvik but then again i just got the phone a few hours ago and switched to ART in an hour.
