ART>Dalvik - Moto G General

I've you've never used ART runtime, you should try it. I'm using it on the latest CM11 nightly, and it sure does make a huge difference, especially in returning to the homepage and switching between apps. To do this, go to Developer Options>Select Runtime. Just thought I'd share this with anyone that wanted to try ART but was worried about stability problems.

Im using Art aswell, but I have no root,
the battery life has increased a lot
for now all apps that I have, run perfectly

Am using ART since a few months now on Stock Rom of Moto G and can tell there is a light difference in better performance.

Big difference in CM11 to me. Wasn't as big in the stock ROM for me, but still noticeable

ART is still under development. And real world performance is not very different ATM. AFAIK optimized dalvik may be faster ATM . Hopefully next release 4.4.3 will have more bug fixes and optimizations and faster ART as well .

Yes, why not

I have enabled art before but im trying it again now and i cant seem to enable it. After the restart it didnt perform the "conversion" where in it converting all the apps. After the restart mine just look like a regular restart. And stays on dalvik. Does having a custom recovery affect it? I just installed twrp weeks ago.

Do you use xposed?

Oh yeah. Im using xposed. I forgot, ive read somewhere xposed is not compatible with art, right?

By my side, i was not so comfortable with ART. Had lags switching between menus, and when an app was intalled from play it freezed. That never happens with dalvik

Why should I use ART if some of my Apps do not work?
However, yes, it works much better

Personally I've had no problems with ART, and noticeably better performance. So much so that I tried out xposed, but deleted it because I wanted the performance of ART

I dont see the difference between ART and Dalvik but then again i just got the phone a few hours ago and switched to ART in an hour.

I didn't notice much of a difference in stock, but I have in CyanogenMod

Nexus 4 Slowing Down?

Hey all,
For some reason lately I've noticed that my Nexus 4 has been slowing down. At least it feels that way. It's been much more laggy than ever before, and its just not as smooth and fast. I haven't done a reset since day 1, so maybe that's why?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
thats could be. if you have root, wipe your dalvik. if you dont have root, then factory resetting will wipe your dalvik among other things.
If you have root, try Greenify
Do you restart it occasionally?

If you want it to work like day 1, back up your files and revert it to stock 4.2.2. I do it every now and then.
It's time to move on to any optimised ROM. I just got my N4 less than 13hours ago, and it's been running custom rom smoothly.

Maybe try doing a factory reset hope that helps. If the problem still exist try flashing a custom ROM and see if that help good luck Buddy

Lag issues?

Anyone getting weird lag issues after a couple days of using one rom? I'm on GE11 and I seem to have more and more lag and unresponsiveness. I'm guessing it could be from xposed framework but I have no idea. Any input would be great. Thanks

Not sure if iB4 fixed the issue, but I think iB4 stated that after a couple of days use with GE11 or MDOB it'll started to lag and the way to fix this is to just restart your phone. Is the issue fixed with a simple restart? If not, it might be xposed or you should try reflashing GE11.
Clearing cache dalvik and fixing permissions in recovery helped for now. We'll see, if it comes back I'll try disabling the xposed framework

[Q] Does Wiping Battery stats and Dalvik cache help if you aren't rooted?

Does Wiping Dalvik Cache and battery stats help at all for your battery life if you aren't rooted. I've disabled a lot of apps, and done a lot of tweaks but since the update I've been averaging about 25 hours on battery, when I would be able to swing 35+ normally. So I was considering doing that in recovery considering I've disabled a lot of things since I first started using the phone.
Actually Not Dalvik, but cache partition. Apparently Dalvik I cant do without root.

Private mode on ART?

Hey does private mode work for anyone in ART? It works well on dalvik, but I tried out art and it didn't seem to work as well...Can anyone confirm or negate this?
Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I've heard that neither private mode or screen mirroring work on ART. Haven't tried it myself because of that.

Thanks for the heads up.. I knew ART was experimental and not fully working yet...

Thanks dude.. !! I think it's correct.:good:
I can indeed confirm that using the ART runtime mode will in fact prevent you from using Screen Mirroring and Private Mode.
I switched back to Dalvik and the those features were enabled and fully functional again.I felt that using ART sped up my system performance and my phone seemed smoother, but it could just be a placebo effect.
Is ART really THAT much better than Dalvik? Or is it marginally better? Perhaps, better on some phone than others?

ART vs Dalvik

I have stock running on my rooted S5, which by the way is the Canadian W8 model.
Read that ART works for the S5, so I enabled it, and what do you know, it started without crashing. As I only just did it, and barely used it, should I go back back to Dalvik?
Anyone know the pros and cons of using ART over Dalvik? I read that ART is still available experimental, so I just don't know if I should be using it or not.
All feedback is appreciated.

Dalvik, because it's stable.
After half a day of usage using ART, I encountered no errors. No massive battery drain although I think the battery drained slightly faster than it had using Dalvik.
I switched back to Dalvik, and am waiting for an awesome ROM and kernel to be developed and perfected so I can drop touchwiz. It's not bad, but too much crap is stuffed in.
