I know the title is pretty noob and lots of thread are already there. I already searched some and can't find the answers I'm seeking so Im gonna make a new thread for it
ok here goes...
I have 4.3 jellybean running on my Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9500
I tried an OTA update but it says its on the latest update
Also, I tried connecting it to kies 3 but tells me that
" Your device current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via kies "
(See Attached Photo)
Any other options to update? My phone is not rooted and will never root
I'm pretty noob at flashing but can learn
Also sammobile wont let me register I don't know why but the anti spam image won't show up so do not redirect me towards that site
I appreciate if someone would put a detailed instruction or a link to a thread which I haven't seen yet that will update my s4
Thanks in advance

1. I'd be careful. you are fresh, KIES and OTA is not giving you update => most likely 4.4.2 was not released for your region yet.
2. IF you really want to do the update... go to http://www.sammobile.com register, check the firmware section.
WARNING: before reding, research, review of comments related with 4.4.2 (SD card access problem, wifi and other problems), I'd thin twice before update.

The JB update just started rolling out in India a few days back and this method helps you update your Galaxy S3 to the official JB release using Kies(Easiest and the safest way) Though people over at this thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33921598#post33921598 ) do say the servers are sometimes down and I personally think this was take a LOT of time.
Also, This should work in India, GS3 owners in other countries(GLOBAL + US VERSIONS) can give this a try to check whether they have the update or not. No harm done either ways.
I'd like to thank jshashwat93 for this method as I saw his post on the aforementioned thread and that's how I got my update.
NOTE: This method is pretty safe until you don't remove the phone from your computer while it's updating in Download mode. So if you do somehow manage to screw up your Device, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE
Here's how it goes:
1. Disconnect your phone from the computer, if you have it connected and start Kies.
2. Click on Help->Check for updates. This Updates Kies. It's required for Updating the Firmware of your phone.
3. After this is done, you might want to restart Kies, and from here on, we shall get to the Update process.
4. Go to Tools->Firmware Upgrade and Installation.
5. It should ask for your Model No. Enter: "GT-I9300".
6. Now it should ask for your Serial No. as Shown in the 2nd picture attached.
7. Now power off your phone and remove the back cover and then the battery.
8. The battery compartment has the IMEI number and the serial number near the Barcode. You require the Serial number.
9. The serial number is written as "S/N: XXXXXXXXX". That's an 11 character number. Write the "XXXXXXXXXXX" in the Serial Number field in the Kies pop up. (Do not write the 'S/N:/ Part)
10. Non Indian users, this is the step that makes it or breaks it for you, the next screen shows you whether or not there is an update for you and from here on, the software will download some files(Shouldn't take long)
11. After a few agreements, you should see the software now asking you to attach your phone in Download mode.
12, Make sure your phone has at least 80% battery because I am not sure whether the battery is charged in Download mode or not. And this step might take a while. The phone, from here, SHOT NOT BE DISCONNECTED or you will spoil your phone(Brick i even. Don't know the consequences)
13. By now you must havee seen that all settings and apps will be erased(In one of the agreements) so it's better to back up your data. ALTHOUGH, here's the interesting part, after my update, I saw all the apps and EVERYTHING was carried forward as it is so cheers to SAMSUNG for that.
14. ALright, Power off your device and press and hold the VOLUME DOWN+HOME BUTTON+POWER BUTTON to enter the download mode.
15. The phone should now display a warning(Check image). Press the volume up button to Continue.
16. You are now in download mode.
17. Connect your phone to your computer and start the installation(The onscreen instructions will guide you. I couldn't post screenshots because I have already updated my phone. Sorry)
18. Sit back and relax this may take a while I left it overnight and slept like a baby(LOL). Though make sure, YOU DO NOT DISCONNECT YOUR PHONE
19. You should have Jelly Bean after the update is done. No need to restart or anything as for me, it was already rebooted. And all my apps were carried here. Works absolutely perfectly. CHEERS Samsung
NOTE: This does not void the Warranty because it's been updated through Kies. So if something DOES go wrong, and you can't find a way to solve it on XDA, you can always get it repaired. Still, Don't blame me if the guy won't repair your phone.
Have fun with your new Update. Cheers
If I helped in anyway, Which I hope I did, HIT THE THANKS BUTTON INSTEAD OF JUST SAYING IT!!!!!!
Doesn't work mate.I tried it and I am from india. Nowhere is jb update available in india......also kies is the weirdest app ever...says no update...I tried everything you just mentioned...God knows if indian users will get it in this month or maybe next year(4.1.1)...as of 4.1.2 and multi window ,its like just give up,samsung is too busy to roll out updates...
No Update
Same here, no update yet. Neither OTA nor via kies....I confirmed from my friends across the country who have S3, they too don't see the update yet.

It only works if an actual update for your individual phone exists.

Can't be. I live in Pune and I updated it just yesterday. Its working just fine for me. Try to see if your lies is updated or not. And probably it hasn't been rolled out for your location. Samsung, at least in the US releases OTA updates specific to locations. Might be the same case here. Oh and this only works on the stock ROM. What error are you getting?

I'm Indian too man. And I am on 4.1.1 just updated last night. I guess ota is rolled out to specific regions at a time so their servers don't crash so I don't expect people getting otas soon. Kies by default doesn't give an update either. This method is the only way to get it right now if you have it
got it...finally updated to 4.1.1

Also, when I'm putting in the model no. and the serial no., it gives the following error:

Yes it will work.
You entered in Caps "GT-I9300" right?
See the screenshot. And check whether you entered the Correct Serial Number. All should be in caps and do not add the "S/N:" in the beginning.
So did anyone in Kolkata get the OTA update?
Also, this method probably woks but due to my slow internet connection, I don't know if I can stare at my phone that long being in download mode.

It works partially for Poland (T-mobile). It found an update, installed it, but the 4.1.1 for polish T-mobile version is surely broken. I haven't got bar at the top of the screen (the one with battery usage, time) and I couldn't set wallpaper (only black screen as background). I'm not an expert with this but I think it have something to do with odexed/deodexed ROM in the update.
I had the same issue when tried to manually install first leaked JB OTA. Good thing I could root phone and restore backup.
BE SURE TO MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE TRYING THIS METHOD!
Good afternoon i have tried reading all the guides but am still non the wiser i have the general gist of what i need to do but not sure what i need to do it.
I have a unlocked UK o2 branded handset. What i would like to do is flash it with the UK BTU Rom the latest one. Im not that concerned if it is rooted and i would preferably like to be able to update OTA.

Also is there one that does not increase the flash counter or change the recovery i just want it to be stock uk btu and update OTA. Im coming from ios so want to get stuck into this, also is there a stock google edition that will run on this id possibly like to try that.
Thanks for your help and know its alot of help its just iv read through most of the stuff and can't decide which rom is the one i need.

thanks for that yeah it is stock now so should get ota updates then , just out of curiosity if i went custom then went back to stock would ota come back and how do they know not to push them to you.
just a thought is it to do with the device status that determines if you receive OTA
thanks again

Yes anything custom u flash OTA wont support
And to get OTA again u need to flash stock firmware and then u should be able to recieve update
Basically if u get back the device to state u had recievd out of the box u ll get updates
However if u come to custom ROMS etc u never will like stock roms coz u get all the updates b4 Stock and + more options tweaks etc which u ll love the most
Hi all,
Just received my G2 from warranty exchange from my Note 2 breaking, and I would like to go further with it!
I'm currently on 4.2.2 JB, and was wondering where I could find a link to get to 4.4.2 rooted? Is there a way to unroot (This is important incase I need to send it back).
I've seen a few threads, downloaded two kdz files, but just wanted to check if all I needed to do was flash that and that's all?
Thanks in advance!
You can just upgrade your phone (officially) and then root it afterwards by IOroot.
It's way too easier than the kdz method.
Also try to write a better title for your post.( No offence)

Hi, I live in the UK I currently own a Samsung Galaxy S4 19505, I was hoping to receive the lollipop update but sadly I haven't got it both of my brothers which own the same device have gotten the update, Could I have not got it because I screwed something up when Un rooting?
Possibly. Especially if you and your brothers all use the same carrier. However, save yourself the hassle of waiting for an OTA update. There should be links in this forum to download the latest Lollipop ROM for the UK. You can flash it yourself and then be good. Better yet, you'll be back to official status again, at least until you root.

Unless you want your phone IMEI cloned, edit your post.
Until EE pushes an update, you should wait. Especially if the S4 is still SIM locked.

Alright thank you, No the S4 Isn't Sim locked
@nachashh: Ok, the fact your phone is unlocked changes things. I worked under the assumption that your phone was still SIM locked when I told you to hold off. If your phone is unlocked you have no restrictions on what ROM you can install. So you actually can install one of the unbranded Android 5.0.1 ROMs we have here and should have no ill effects from doing so. Personally, since you are in the UK, the BTU ROM is your best choice.

You can, but I've seen others recommend against it because of carrier modifications, especially on sammobile. Better to play it safe.

go to the root thread, follow the instructions and give it a shot. That's really the best way to find out...just make sure you have the APK1 firmware on standby in case it doesn't turn out well.

Pretty much this. Backup files you don't want to lose, download the stock Odin files, and give rooting a shot. Worst case, you just gotta flash stock back via Odin. You may be able to flash an earlier firmware via Odin and root from there. Though I doubt Odin would let you. If I were you, I'd download all the applicable files, backup my data, wait until I've got a good chink of time ithat I don't need my phone and start playing around with it. I had all sorts of complications rooting mine s{ I was phone-less for like an hour

I'm still trying to learn the nomenclature....so, i'm assuming by the PK1 one part of the version that it is new than PI3?
Just wasn't sure about UUE part. Sorry, noob in this dept.
But, wanted to at least share that I had successful root with OP baseband.
Now to figure out how to make the battery last more than 10hrs and respond a little quicker.
The V15 fix hasn't seem to do much in comparison to stock OTA.
Hope this helps.

(for the others that may not know too)
The last three characters of the release are the ones that matter.
* The P indicates the year (P=16th letter of the alphabet, 2016)
* The K indicates the month (K=11th letter of the alphabet, November)
* The 1 represents the release number (to allow for more than one release each month)
Keep in mind that once you flash a newer firmware on the S7, you cannot go back to an older one. Odin will not let you flash it. Even if you could, it would most likely trip the KNOX flag.
