Newbie unbranding help please - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good afternoon i have tried reading all the guides but am still non the wiser i have the general gist of what i need to do but not sure what i need to do it.
I have a unlocked UK o2 branded handset. What i would like to do is flash it with the UK BTU Rom the latest one. Im not that concerned if it is rooted and i would preferably like to be able to update OTA.
Is this possible could someone point me in the direction or link me to what i need to download and also how to install cause there are so many roms it confuses me.
Also is there one that does not increase the flash counter or change the recovery i just want it to be stock uk btu and update OTA. Im coming from ios so want to get stuck into this, also is there a stock google edition that will run on this id possibly like to try that.
Thanks for your help and know its alot of help its just iv read through most of the stuff and can't decide which rom is the one i need.

thanks for that yeah it is stock now so should get ota updates then , just out of curiosity if i went custom then went back to stock would ota come back and how do they know not to push them to you.
just a thought is it to do with the device status that determines if you receive OTA
thanks again

Yes anything custom u flash OTA wont support
And to get OTA again u need to flash stock firmware and then u should be able to recieve update
Basically if u get back the device to state u had recievd out of the box u ll get updates
However if u come to custom ROMS etc u never will like stock roms coz u get all the updates b4 Stock and + more options tweaks etc which u ll love the most

As long as you're on stock Rom and not a frankenstien package you can upgrade when there is an upgrade available for your country/ carrier. If you want upgrade before use odin

The latest Samsung build I tried was KI4; excellent firmware and is leaps and bounds above the Bell firmware in every aspect. There are newer 2.3.5 builds, but I'm not on a Samsung based ROM currently.
Bell Canuck thread.
Firmware thread.
Search Original Android Dev for the latest/greatest firmware; it changes rapidly.
I wouldn't worry about updating your firmware via Kies if you're on Bell; you may NEVER see an update.
thanks for your fast reply guys !
but I dont understand why everyone tell (you must check your cell version like KG2 ,KG3 etc.. and its must be the same) and you guys running very different think as we should in North america ? like some guys running poland version ?

Read and research some more until you're comfortable. You only have to worry about matching kernel to firmware if you're doing a simple root, and retaining your current firmware. I've run 3 or 4 of the XXK_ _ firmwares, which are all Euro specific. No issues whatsoever.
Bell would likely tell you to pound sand if you tried to get warranty work done however, despite the fact you would have an official Samsung firmware (but not Bell's firmware).
When/if you flash a non-Bell firmware follow the instructions in the thread I linked to the letter, and yes, PDA is all you need, it has CSC, kernel, etc... in it.
You can then track down a CF-Root kernel for that firmware.

[Q] How to update to kitkat? via Odin

I know the title is pretty noob and lots of thread are already there. I already searched some and can't find the answers I'm seeking so Im gonna make a new thread for it
ok here goes...
I have 4.3 jellybean running on my Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9500
I tried an OTA update but it says its on the latest update
Also, I tried connecting it to kies 3 but tells me that
" Your device current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via kies "
(See Attached Photo)
Any other options to update? My phone is not rooted and will never root
I'm pretty noob at flashing but can learn
Also sammobile wont let me register I don't know why but the anti spam image won't show up so do not redirect me towards that site
I appreciate if someone would put a detailed instruction or a link to a thread which I haven't seen yet that will update my s4
Thanks in advance

1. I'd be careful. you are fresh, KIES and OTA is not giving you update => most likely 4.4.2 was not released for your region yet.
2. IF you really want to do the update... go to http://www.sammobile.com register, check the firmware section.
WARNING: before reding, research, review of comments related with 4.4.2 (SD card access problem, wifi and other problems), I'd thin twice before update.

What to do now?

Hi all,
Just received my G2 from warranty exchange from my Note 2 breaking, and I would like to go further with it!
I'm currently on 4.2.2 JB, and was wondering where I could find a link to get to 4.4.2 rooted? Is there a way to unroot (This is important incase I need to send it back).
I've seen a few threads, downloaded two kdz files, but just wanted to check if all I needed to do was flash that and that's all?
Thanks in advance!
You can just upgrade your phone (officially) and then root it afterwards by IOroot.
It's way too easier than the kdz method.
Also try to write a better title for your post.( No offence)

Samsung Galaxy S4 19505 Update?

Hi, I live in the UK I currently own a Samsung Galaxy S4 19505, I was hoping to receive the lollipop update but sadly I haven't got it both of my brothers which own the same device have gotten the update, Could I have not got it because I screwed something up when Un rooting?
Possibly. Especially if you and your brothers all use the same carrier. However, save yourself the hassle of waiting for an OTA update. There should be links in this forum to download the latest Lollipop ROM for the UK. You can flash it yourself and then be good. Better yet, you'll be back to official status again, at least until you root.

Sadly I can't upload images or links. But downloading that App and comparing it with my brothers phone, I have an EE version of the device he has the Normal black Samsung edition. He has the Firmware updates I don't I'm guessing I'd need to wait till EE decide to push out the updates?

Unless you want your phone IMEI cloned, edit your post.
Until EE pushes an update, you should wait. Especially if the S4 is still SIM locked.

Alright thank you, No the S4 Isn't Sim locked
@nachashh: Ok, the fact your phone is unlocked changes things. I worked under the assumption that your phone was still SIM locked when I told you to hold off. If your phone is unlocked you have no restrictions on what ROM you can install. So you actually can install one of the unbranded Android 5.0.1 ROMs we have here and should have no ill effects from doing so. Personally, since you are in the UK, the BTU ROM is your best choice.

Even with a SIM lock you can still install any rom.
You can, but I've seen others recommend against it because of carrier modifications, especially on sammobile. Better to play it safe.

Shifty's shot at root on LP

hey guys shifty here w a lil bit of an update i got root sort of going a couple of nights ago it was only temporary (sadly) otherwise id have screen shots for you my devs that are helpin me are taking a closer look as for if it will work for you i have no idea if your on SU3TL-38 (OTA NOT ROOTED PREIMG) id suggest going here http://motofirmware.center/files/category/23-droid-turbo/
then find the SU3TL-39 update and side load it if you do not know what side loading is ill explain it if you already know then skip this ok so after downloading the VRZ_XT1254_SU3TL-39_39_CFC.xml.zip (yes thats actually the name of it as i have the file) you plug your phone in via USB now you will take this zip and move into a file location i usually made it simple like DICM or something then boot your turbo into recovery power + vol down to get into the bootloader use volume buttons till you see recovery select that now youll see a dead andy and text that says no command i usually got passed that by pressing vol down then power for a few seconds then click apply update from SD then go to your folder w the .zip then update simple as that...
Now shifty why update to SU3TL-39? well thats the firmware im working on my turbo never had SU3TL-38 and i cant downgrade so i cant give you my word it would work and if your on SU4TL-44 it will not work i can give you my word on this so like i said temp root was successful i will not release root until i get perma root thanks for the support guys i know theres tuts for side loading but i thought id add it just incase someone whos lower than SU4TL-44 and not n my firmware can get there for root now everyone should know how to check there build number if you dont i dont think you should be rooting xD but yes shifty is on this guys i might work on SU4TL-44 later on so DONT WORRY updated users thats all for now
Cool man. You'll make a lot of people happy with this. Just news someone else is working on it is good news.
Yea man just people to will work on it but all that matters is root on the device I just hope I can get my exploit out and that people try it and give me feedback

but @Qutayba Khader no you cannot root 5.1 LP at this time but i am working on a root method for the build number SU3TL-39 because that is my current build number i was telling anyone on SU3TL-38 stock OTA (no pre-rooted img) to go side load SU3TL-39 if you OTA update youll end up going to SU4TL-44 then i wont be able to help you what i meant by non-rooted is back on 4.4.4 kitkat people used moforoot and thats no longer usable on LP people who used mofo are now using pre-rooted imgs of LP all that means is there using a custom version of the OTA for root users basically no use to us with out root so go check your build number via settings > about phone then youll know what build your on if you need help let me know ill be glad to help
