[Testers Needed] Custom Kernel G900H - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have built a kernel for G900H.
It is insecured and also have included Wolfson Audio by Andreilux.
I am looking for testers.
I don't think this kernel will boot because this is my first kernel in my life.
Anyway,
Who wants to test it?
Prerequisites:
1. Turn off Reactivation lock from Settings.
2. Do a CWM/TWRP backup.
Warning: I am not responsible for whatever happens with this test kernel.

Sorry,
Phone doesn't leave "Start up Logo Samsung Galaxy S5",
Just tested it myself.
Same thing happened with developer "Gnome".
What special technique is needed to develop kernels of S5?

Help here!

I want to know if I need to install a custom rom or a custom kernel or a combination of both so that I can overclock my phone(1ghz single core). Please help. Why is everybody so silent here, so unwilling to answer a simple question as this. My fourth post of the same question.

Any custom ROM that comes packaged with an included kernel should allow you to overclock. AFAIK the oveclocking capability lies within the kernel (at least with Xperias this is the case) . At the least, a stock ROM with a custom kernel and a CPU/Performance app will give you overclocking options.
My suggestion though is to get a ROM like PAC, that comes with a kernel and the needed app to manage your CPU settings.

That is not fully correct.
Most PAC builds use the stock CM kernel. Our ROM offers performance settings to manage that, but they generally do not allow overclocking.
Some of us have additional builds with performance kernels built in. Not all of us though.
Your best approach would be to install PAC for your device then check your devices XDA thread for a popular performance kernel and flash that afterwords. The performance control will see the new CPU settings and you will then be able to configure it as you need.
DL an oc app, like CPU tuner or whatever..

Yes, you need a kernel with overclock support .
On Gs2 I use PAC and dorimanx kernel
On your phone you need to search for kernels and roms for your model

[SOLVED] AEL Kernel f2fs Support??

Hi guys and gals, have a quick question. I have a N910V Verizon variant Note 4 and had been running the Emotion r21 kernel on my highly modified but otherwise factory TW 5.1.1 rom. I have been looking for a kernel that works and has f2fs support because I want to try it out. Today I found an awesome kernel, the AEL 5.1.1. Ed. 3.10.101 kernel for the N910F/G dated March 16, 2016. I cannot find anywhere that says this kernel may or may not have f2fs support. Does anyone know if it does??

Yea I guess I can always try it and restore back if it doesn't work. Might just do that later

--------------------------SOLVED----------------------------
OK well I did a Nandroid backup, changed /data and /cache partitions to f2fs filesystem and restored my data backup and boy the system did NOT like that, so I'm guessing this kernel doesn't yet support f2fs. It would be nice if I could somehow add the support to it in the existing kernel. Does anyone know possibly how I could achieve that??
Chuck
ael is a kernel without public sources, so, you cant have any trust in this kernel.
Some time ago, I used a kernel with f2fs in note 3, and honestly I did not see any advantage.
However if you want to try f2fs, my advice is, leave the ael kernel for children, its not a serious thing, and compile your own kernel.
It is not difficult to make a kernel with f2fs, from what I remember in note 3, the major difficulty was in changing the ramdisk.
Currently I have no time for these activities, but maybe in a few weeks I can have some free time for this.

Thanks for the reply. That sucks about not trusting this kernel. I've been running it close to a week now and actually like it better than the Emotion kernel I was running. It is so smooth and battery life has been great, even with a mild overclock! If I could ask, what would I not be able to trust about this one? Anyways, I might look into compiling my own kernel but I've never done one. I am a power user so I wouldn't be scared to try lol. If you do end up trying in the coming weeks then I honestly would appreciate it but you don't have to on my account

I refuse to use a kernel without public sources. you use what you think is best for you.
but it was you, who said, that the ael kernel supports f2fs but that does not work. It seems to be a untrusted kernel.

No, I didn't say it supports f2fs. I said that I was looking for a kernel that supports f2fs and I couldn't find anywhere that lists the features of the AEL kernel so I could see if it does support f2fs. Since I couldn't find a list of features or a changelog, I decided to try it and see if the support was there, but it wasn't :/

Kernel help issues

Hi I just want help with some kernel, at now am using resurrection remix 4.4.2 as to my point that am unable to create a swap file on SD card as my kernel doest not support it had tried many swap apps but non of them works.
As I searched on Google with 4.4.2 custom kernels and flashed many but nothing happens... Kernel name remains same as factory default
As far as I am really confused and need some help from you guys... (Still using swapper for root on my Asus tab with cm10 stable and it worked fine for me hmm... Was thinking can I flash cm10 kernel of my tab by backuping my kernel and try to flash it on my s4 i9500 will it work??)
Thx
No it will not work.
Anyway there's just two custom kernel out there that supports 4.4 custom ROMs, just two:
1- Maxfour v14.
2- Persues v19.1 modified.
Any other kernel you may have downloaded could be for the wrong device, that's why it doesn't get installed.

Do you know some one who can help me with some modification for kernel....
Well, you need permission from the creator of the kernel and then you need someone who's free to do that

Latest ROM with Undervolt?

Hi!
I actually have my i9505 with GPE Rom, but i just read that undervolt let me gain baterry and stops the overheat...
Is actually a ROM(kernel included) with undervolt(5.1.1 to 7.1)?
Thanks!
Yes. Optimized ROMs from the JDCTeam have a custom kernel included that allows you to undervolt.
I think you can flash any custom kernel and download synapse. It can do that.
'm testing a JDCTeam ROM as @Pwnycorn says, maybe i'll try the synapse thing jejeje
thanks!

I'm using the US Cellular version which is the single SIM xt1607 and I've had no trouble unlocking boot loader and flashing twrp or any Rom, in stock Rom I was using xposed as well. Currently running axosp room with no issues.

Thank you bro. I previously used an MTK device and i know about flashing and rooting. But never used custom kernel. Can we use custom rom without any custom kernel? or is it necessary that i have to flash custom kernel for every custom rom?. Also give me links of bugless roms for our device?

I've been using the ASOPEtended Rom and have had no issues. Download can be found in the main Android development thread. As for custom kernels. I've been using squids kernel, but you can use the kernel built into the Rom with no issues

You flash the kernel just like the rom,I would flash the rom, then open gapps or bean gapps. Next I would flash supersu which you can find by doing a search of the forum, wipe dalvik cache, start finish setup then flash squid kernel. Also download kernel auditor from play store to get the most out of squid kernel. Helix kernel is another alternative based off squid kernel. Both squid and Helix allow you to change several options to improve battery life and performance.
