What temp does your phone run? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I've had heat issues since I've first owned the device. It typically runs at 51°c under pressure it'll get up to 70-80°c. Under stress and charge it's nothing to be around 90°. Now since I started using different profiles I'm the kt tweaker it's gotten a little better. I still can't take more then ten pictures with flash before it yells at my saying my phone is too hot, and flash is unable to work.. Oh.. as a side note, can that be disabled?
I'm running sacs v3 4.4 with ktoonsez kernel. (Sorry if I spelled that wrong) As a little insight to my device.

Any side effects of over clocking to 1.4 ghz

Guys I was just wondering if there is any side effects of running g2 at those speeds for extended period of time?

There are...
By increasing the voltage/speed you reduce the life of the CPU itself. However, these chips aren't designed to last 3 years and then die. They are designed to last 20 years and so OC'ing take the life to something akin to 12 years. Nothing to worry about.
If your software doesn't hang and the phone doesn't freeze/overheat then no worries.
I've had mine overclocked for a few days now with SetCPU to control the speed, and I've noticed that the phone is significantly faster and that the battery lasts longer on idle. Mine is running at 1305 (seemed to be the sweet spot without fiddling with voltage, might play with that another time) and I haven't had any issues at all. Unless you consider a free speed boost to be an issue, anyway.

Yeah I found a side effect.. not being satisfied with stock and not knowing when to stop overclocking lol 1.6 here I come!!

Side effects?!
You will become very picky with phones.. trust me, once you get used the the fast overclocked G2, you don't want to use any other slow pines.
I know for certain that you could reduce the lifespan of your CPU, but that's if you're not being smart with it. Along with SetCPU, I was able to increase my battery life by having it idle very low when it's sleeping. I was able to keep my phone at 100% charge, unplugged, for five hours straight before it dipped down to 99%. Then it slowly started picking up.
I'd say that so long as you're smart with overclockiing, you'll be okay.

General Warning: Overheating!

Just a warning to all using the FreeX10/other 2.2+ performance ROMs that I experienced is the overheating of the device. This may only be me, but I'm posting this just in case.
Quick details of my X10:
Flashed to FreeX10 Beta #4 last night.
Used SetCPU to set scaling to Performance and minimum clock speed @ 998MHz.
Using the 3G (build.prop) enhancement modification.
I have a rubber casing around the phone.
Usually connected to WiFi.
My phone has been on since last night and has been charging for most of the time since then and now.
Just then, I decided to turn my phone off a couple of times. I did not notice the heat from just holding it. I was browsing here and read a thread about removing the battery, so I just did that for some reason. It wasn't until I opened the case when I could smell the smell of melted/hot plastic - it was coming from the battery. I immediately placed the open-phone and the battery in front of a cool fan, the battery and phone both started to cool down and the smell disappeared. I couldn't find any liquid/melted plastics anywhere on/in the phone, but I could definitely smell it.
Just a general friendly warning (that can't hurt). Not sure if it's documented or not, and whether this is only Froyo or below/above.
Used SetCPU to set scaling to Performance and minimum clock speed @ 998MHz.

what's the point?! if it is to overheat your x10, mission complete
Why using setcpu? I use the same rom and it runs like hell without setcpu. No overheating neither...

nytral is right. You set the CPU to run @998Hmz at _all time_ so it'[s only natural that the device/battery overheated.

u have managed to make a perfect guide on how to overheat the phone...
u push all the components to their max working capacity (full cpu, 'enhancement' of radio) and on top of that u keep it enclosed in a rubber casing...
bravo!!!

Sorry, Min is 245. Not 998.. :-/
And I'm pretty sure the material of the casing (rubber vs hard plastic) wouldn't matter, but would contribute to the heating. I'm sure that a lot of people would use a case of some sort to protect their device.
The only reason why I started this thread is because I was on a ROM not too long ago (a couple of nights ago), which has exactly the same settings and modifications, except, it wasn't running Froyo - it was running Eclair. And since I installed that Eclair ROM, the phone has only been turned off once (with the battery removed, about a couple of days after installing it and it being on and charging pretty much 24/7) and has been charging pretty much non stop.
The only difference is it is using Froyo instead of Eclair... Hence why I thought it'd be best to start this thread.
LOL, now this is n1 example of a person who didnt read before he flashed

lol nice overheat guide
i'm using setcpu to scale it to powersafe and max @512 Hz
and when the screen is off it's max is set to the lowest (256?)
and when i wanna play games i always set it to min 256(?) and may 998 ans performance
then my battery won't drain so fast
nice overheating guidelines
Do you guys actually see a difference with setcpu? I have used every option available and nothing ever got slower or faster for me.

Yeah I'm running 2.2.1 and my X10 is no where near hot. well, at least in temperature because its a hot-sexy phone ;P
Nice overclocking there though X10 watercooling systems now in development, expect another forum branch to open in XDA in the next coming weeks.
To my understanding the 2.6.29 doesn't support overclocking so setcpu shouldn't make a difference at all. The rubber case probably contributed to the heat retention but the heat likely is from the constant charging.

Try the JuiceDefender app and set it to turn off wifi and data when your screen is off or unless certain apps are visible, helps with battery and stops unused functions while your phone sleeps.

Phone doesnt overheat, if you use it right.
Useless topic!!
Sounds like a guy (not saying names) that Z tells to remove some files from "some" roms he was taking without permission, just trying to desestimate Z rom.
Beta 4 runs very well, theres no overheat.
Sorry for my bad english!!

Try charging the phone while its off. Ive heard people say that their phone wouldnt charge past a certain point but after charging it whilst off it returned to charging back to 100 percent. I bought a new usb cable for my charger after the terminal end into the phone became deformed and my phone now charges ~3x faster but ive never had it get abnormally hot.

Hmmm... i set cpu to 998 when running emulators, otherwise its just ondemand. Using freex10 b4 for a fortnight high use frequent charging added 3g build prop lines, got no overheating issues.

Its funny that anyone with the know how or has supposedly read these forums continue to pay for (or pirate!) apps that have no effect. WITHOUT UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER AND CUSTOM KERNEL OVERCLOCKING APPS HAVE NO EFFECT! Check the overclock option in JuiceDefender, this option is not supported! The developer of the app has apparently left out any notice that it doesnt work with our kernel so they can continue to make sales.

Overheating

Hey guys. So i got an atrix today and really like it, only thing is js that the bottom part of the phone gets heats up after about 10 minutes of use. Its really annoying and i don't want it to damage my phone. How can i fix it without installing a custom rom or anything?
Mine did that when i got it at first too, After about a month or 2 it fixed itself.
The bottom of the phone is where the processor is and since it's dual-core it will get warm, especially after 10 continuous minutes of use. It should be nothing to worry about as some have reported getting it up to 115 degrees or so without problems. Also, the phone has a safety feature where it will shut the phone off if it gets too hot.

Have you tried undervolting?

Every time it shut the phone automatically, I have to pull the battery off and boot it up. It is really annoying cause I am using a case which is hard to wear on/off. Any solution?
How long are you waiting to boot the phone back up? It should be left to cool down first.

I believe he wants to avoid any of that when he says he wants to do it "without installing a custom rom or anything", which I believe you need a custom kernel to undervolt. Is that correct?

Yeah. It just bothers me when the phone gets hot in my hand, and I sorta don't want it to get damaged. I don't wanna undervolt either, it should be able tow ork without me messing with it and it not heating up so much. I don't think other dual cores have the same problem.
Hopefully it'll fix itself though, like an above poster said.
Just have a ice pack on hand for long usage. Should eliminate the problem altogether!
First of all, what android version you are using?
Mine used to heat up nicely enough to cook an egg on it when running stock 2.2, since the stock 2.2 kernel has almost no CPU management at all. When unlocking it and replacing the OS version to 2.3, even before start messing around with custom kernels, it heated less. After I started using custom kernels (especially the superb kernels by faux123 ) I could UV the device, now it heats up only after long playing or at low battery levels.
Hope it helps you

There is part of your problem. No active cooling with phones, so when you encase them in something else, there is nowhere for the heat to go. Try using without the case for a few days and see if the problem remains. These phones do get hot, and there are multiple threads covering this topic already.
using an ice pack will probably cause condensation inside the phone, which would damage it.
I find that mine starts to heat up after using high cpu things like games etc. What I suggest is an app named "Juice Defender" and limiting your game/high cpu usage.
If it gets too hot put it on sleep and let it cool

Galaxy Note CPU problem with overheating !

Since I tried to install The MIDteam's 1.4.2 Update 3 BETA 3, my Galaxy Note has been getting really hot even when I just open the Play Store for 5 minutes...
I'm now back on CheckRom HD the latest version and the only kernel I can get into deep sleep with is the AbyssNote kernel. My problem is that my phone goes straight from deep sleep to 1.2 or 1.4 GHz so if it has happened to anyone please help me !!! I've tried flashing every single rom but none of them do the trick and it's always super laggy.
also, I don't know if there's a link but whenever I try wiping everything from recovery it won't wipe .androidsecure and my external sd card is shown in the recovery menu but not the zip files on it.
Thank you in advance !
Have you tried other kernels? Are you using CPU Spy to see what state your CPU is in most of the time? The problems your describing isn't a rom issue, its a kernel issue.
Your phone will run hot from time to time. Mine does too. If something wasn't right I'm sure you would be getting a ton of FC`s and random reboots.
Im currently running KindDroid and SpeedMod kernel with no issues. Gets warm but nothing out of the ordinary.

Also consider BetterBatteryStats from the Play store. It will give you a better idea if your getting any wakelock problems as well.
My phone last night got stuck on 1.4Ghz from 12am till I woke up (6:00am). It was warm but nothing different then normal use. I found out by setting my alarm clock somehow caused the phone to get stuck and not sleep. Almost like I changed the governor to performance (which I didn't lol)
Such is why I'm on speed mod now. Phone can sleep now and almost zero lag

[FiX] Galaxy Note ICS OVERHEATING PROBLEM SOLVED
[FiX] Galaxy Note ICS OVERHEATING PROBLEM SOLVED:
1 Go to settings- developer options - UNCHECK "Dont keep activities"
2 Use go launcher ex (or some other good launcher...) instead of default launcher
3 Instal from google play android assistant and use it to clean cache and stop most of background process
4 install from google play "cpu master free" (MUST HAVE ROOTED PHONE) and set 1000 MHz for MAXIMUM, and check box "set on boot"
5 Turn off gps, bluetooth, sinc, WiFi, Packet Data and all other stuff that you dont use at moment...
P.S. DO NOT expect that your phone will be cold as ice after you do this...
ICS is build that you can use max. out of dual core, and galaxy note is pretty slim and back is made out of plastic...All that increase heating problem...
Hope i helped! =D
link
The OMAP4 Cortex A9 platform specification shows that its operating temperature is 40° to 85° C (104° to 185° F). Then why the Galaxy Note overheats but other phones do not? It is very thin so you are holding your hands very close to processor and you feel heat.
There is nothing you can do about the Galaxy Note overheating and you have to live with it. If you don’t use it for gaming or videos you won’t notice heat. If your Galaxy Note gets warm while you are using it only few minutes without pushing it to limits then it could be some other issue with your device.
As long as you can’t fry eggs on the Galaxy Note, it doesn’t melt, and you can still hold it in your hands its absolutely normal. So it’s not a big deal and there is no fix for it unless you want to stop playing games and watching videos.
battery manufacturers say this ...
Notice:
1. Do not remove battery at will charging.
2. Do not place the battery stored in more than 45 ° C high temperature environm-ent or in fire, otherwise it may cause the battery explosion.
3. Don't exert external force to the battery or rendered from falling.
4. Do not place the battery with conductor such as key, coins, etc, to avoid short-Circuit.
5. Do not let battery be moist or put it in water.
6. Suggest choosing original charger or performance reliable charger for charging.
if you live at a place where the environmental temperature reaches 43° C then overheating of your note is natural.. lol

Nexus 4 getting warm

Please dont get mad at me for opening this thread and if there is a thread similar to my problem, please attach the link, as xda search facility is not that flexible and yes i have tried google as well but couldn't find something similar to what i am about to write.
So my phone started getting warm for no reason, i am using it the same way i used to before it started getting warm.
Hangouts, whatsapp, xda, few calls and texts and no game no battery consuming app no nothing.
But yeah i am a flashaholic person, but its been three months i think and ive been continuously flashing roms without any problem, like 5 roms in a week.
It never happened before but only after i flashed a rom with aroma settings in it.
"I AM NOT BLAMING OR I AM NOT SAYING IT WITH CERTAIN SURETY THAT AROMA IS THE REASON" but thats the only different thing I've tried and it started happening.
Before it used to stay cool while on charging also but not now.
It gets warm from the top, let say top back half part.
I've read it in another forum that it is related to WiFi, as the wifi chip is planted in the top part of the phone.
But my question is why NOW?
Like i am using my phone exactly the same as i used to.
If anyone need more details, please feel free to ask but please help me sorting out this issue, because I'm completely in love with me"nexus 4", (thinking of dumping my gf "joking") that i want it run smooth without any issue. *sniff*
Edit: xda mobile search facility i meant.

Have you changed cases recently? (just a shot in the dark)
It is not uncommon for the Nexus 4 to get warm under heavy usage. I would take a look and see if maybe there is an app running in the background that could be causing this as well.
Phones getting warm are completely normal. It's the nature of phones with big IPS/LED screens that they will require a large battery to go with it. And batteries generate heat, plain and simple. And if you're in a country with a warm climate, it adds to the phone's heat too. If you're worried, mine also heats up at the top part of the back, and it's still running beautifully.
I would suggest installing Trickster MOD to take note of the temperatures. The throttle temperatures are in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43513764&postcount=2
Bottomline: your phone heats up because you're using. That doesn't mean something is wrong (unless you're really going over the acceptable limits ).
