Music Lovers Upgrade you may have sitting around.

Hi there, I dont know if this will be no news to most people out there, but ppl, I just realised if you get the iphone ear phones with the mic, You can use it on the Hero for the following
- Receive Calls
- As Expected Listen to Music
- But You can actually squeeze the mic once to pause the song,
- Squeeze it 2 quick times and it will change the track
If you know of any other ways to use the earphone pls drop me a line but right now Illd go back to enjoying this two lil piece of hardware I have that make my life far much better.

I've been using my old iPhone earphones since I switched to the Pre last summer
Love them... great quality on the audio, too.

I think the factory iPod/iPhone head phones are garbage. The sound quality is horrible. I guess thats why they can afford to give them away at the moron bar.
My guess is though, if you have a set of good sony's that are iPhone compatible they would be Hero compatible as well.

Is this while playing a song, cos the whole discovery happened in less than 40 mins ago, so i didnt get to dig into how guarranteed it works.
Well I run a ic3rom 2.1 Rom(That just got release last night and is super sweet.)and mine is the Sprint Version so idk if you are on the same boat.

Maybe I'm just a music snob, but does anyone else think the Hero sounds like crap? If you don't you probably have never tried to listen to it over amplified speakers (like in the aux jack in a car). Total crappola Damn shame too, there was great potential for awesomeness.

Yeah I noticed that it doesn't sound all that great as well. espically with car speakers

I hook mine to the deck over USB. Deck handles all the decoding. Phone is just a hard drive to it.

yeah my hero sounds like sh*t in the car.
i have a pair of samsung earphones that work as playback and mic during calls, the mute button even works.
is it wierd my g1 soubded better over my car speakers, and that i had to get the usb to headphone jack adapter. ha!

I know the ones that come with the pre and the moment work as well. And yes the Hero seems to be eq'd very strange. Way to much mids and bass in the car makes things a tad muddy.

@everyonelse..thats true, sadly the quality does tend to deteriorate once you connect it to heavier sound systems,

make sure you do not have the volume on the hero all the way up try turning it way down and adjusting mainly through the car stereo this should help and sound fine......

My wife connects hers through a cassette adapter to the car stereo and sound is great!

I have a 1000 watt amp and I'm blasting my hero as I ride. Sounds great to me.

are you streaming music to a HU with a DAC, or playing on some BT headphones? Seems like if you stick to the smaller speakers it sounds acceptable. That may explain the weird EQ settings, trying to overcome the poor quality earbuds most people like to use.

[Q] Another "I'm thinking about a Streak" thread

With the price drop, I'm seriously tempted to order one. I played with one at Best Buy for a few minutes (literally maybe 2) and I did like what I saw. That said, I have a few questions...
I think my primary device will remain my N1. I see it as a bit more portable. The Streak will certainly get some regular use when I need a little more size, once I get a good BT, that is.
At any rate, my questions are:
Does the Streak still suffer from large borders around most apps? I think most of this is probably dependent on the app, and the developer making it work for various sizes and resolutions. I know it was a decent complaint upon initial reviews. How's it look now?
I've read a lot of complaints about the 2.2 update. Is it better? Is it stable? Is it better to flash something like DJ Steve's (I think that's the name) or some other custom ROM?
How's the audio performance? Let's split this into three sections. First, audio on phone calls. Decent noise cancellation? Decent incoming sound? Any complaints from those you chat with?
Second on audio, how's the speaker? The N1 has a huge shortcoming there, in my ever so humble opinion. For speakerphone and audio from music/videos, the speaker on the N1 sucks. How's the Streak's?
Audio out and bluetooth audio. I listen to a lot of music at work, and I plug my N1 into my car stereo quite frequently. I can't imagine any issues here, but it's a prime function for me, so I want to sure I won't have any issues.
Video performance. Decent GPU? I don't do a lot of videos, but I can see myself doing more with the Streak. Additionally, I take my son on some road trips, and I definitely foresee him watching movies and playing games while on the road. Most trips are about an hour and a half, up to two hours. He sleeps in the car less and less as he gets older, so I see huge potential here. The N1 GPU isn't that great, sadly.
I've tried to read most of these threads, and I know the vast majority of you are very happy with your Streaks. I'm seriously tempted to pick one up. I also plan on getting whatever dual core comes to AT&T, so the Streak is basically just a bonus. I may hold out for a 7". Pretty torn, but that $400 price point is right up my alley and pretty hard to turn down.

I said the same thing about my iPhone 3GS. But in the 10 days I have had my Streak, I have not even considered turning the iPhone back on.

Every app I've used so far takes up the entire screen. Some pics in apps don't; TMZ is the one that comes to mind. Other than that it uses the entire real estate for me.

2.2 is very stable for me. The stock UI is pretty worthless so I'm running ADW.Launcher. I cannot speak for custom Streak ROMs; haven't tried any of them yet. Nor have I had desire to.

Phone calls via the handset are flawless for me.

I usually turn on the speakerphone only when I'm on hold waiting for the next available coordinator. It's pretty much like any other phone I've used. Sound is decent. I haven't listened to any music but I have watched a movie or two and it's not theater sound but it works. I have a Otterbox Defender case that might interfere with the sounds but I have no complaints.

I have a Parrot in my truck that I use for calls and the bluetooth sound for phone calls is great. No complaints at all. I haven't paired my Plantronics 590 headphones with it yet so I can't speak for music over bluetooth yet.

I watched Iron Man 2 on my Streak end-to-end and it was flawless. I was using my Denon headphones for sounds.
Now all that said, my ONLY complaints about the Streak are the battery life and trying to find a car charger that works unmodified. Battery life is to be expected the way I use it. Wifi, 3G, Bluetooth, all on 24x7. But the car charger thing miffs me. I bought a 1000mA USB charger but the Streak will not recognize/charge with it. I've read where you have to solder pins together to work. WTF?
My 2-cents.

I just ordered the unlocked Streak today and they offer this bluetooth headset for 99 cents when you buy.
I don't know how good it is but for 99 cents I figured it was worth it. I have bluetooth built in on my vehicle radio, but will probably use a headset more with the Streak.
BTW - thanks for starting this thread to to those who responded, it's been informative.

The charger issue appears to be common with many of the newer phones. I know there are a lot of posts about this same issue in the Motorola owners forums. From what i have read the mod to a cigarette lighter to USB adapter is pretty easy.

Every single day I drive on the 405, which is one of the busiest highways in the world, every single day people to my left, and to my right are texting while driving, and getting into accidents.
Oh and I love the people who can afford a cell phone and monthly cell phone bill but won't spend 40 bucks on a bluetooth set or use the free wired set that comes in almost every box, so instead they hold the cell phone kinda low infront of their chest and put it on speakerphone.
I'm staying somewhere safe tonight too, I'm not going out with all the fools who are drinking and texting.

This is why google tts is so useful, although admittedly I've only used this a handful of times. Mostly I just wait until I've stopped.

This video says a lot, if it's really something important when will call you and then you can use speaker/BT/headset...ETC to answer the call. Here is WA it's been illegal to text since 2008, and they just changed the cell phone handsfree law so that they don't have to find a different reason to pull you over and then tack the cell phone on to that. If you want to kill yourself then continue to chat and text while driving with out a handsfree device. Me, I've got bluetooth both in the car, and a headset in my pocket.

I don't text while I drive (sometimes I'll do a quickie at a red light, if I know it'll be red for a good minute), but I'm not about to use a BT headset.
Last time I used one of those my ear canal got so inflamed I was about ready to go to the hospital. Maybe it's the materials that particular one was made of, but I'll never use them. Same goes for the headsets - had the same issue. Maybe I'm allergic to something they put in the plastics.
And yes, my ears are clean
So I do the speakerphone + hold it thing.
Personally I find talking on the phone almost as distracting as texting - headset or not. I've just recently stopped putting my phone on Silence when I get in the car to drive. I used to put it in the back seat, even. Now I just put it on the passanger seat.
That way I know to check it (or can glance and see who's calling), but there's no way I can reach for it while I'm actually driving down the road
One thing I can say is that when I had a phone with a landscape QWERTY keyboard (similar to blackberry) I hardly had to look at the phone when typing, and could do it with one hand pretty accurately (good enough that whoever I sent a text too knew what I was saying).
I can't stand peple who call or text you while you're driving, when you sent them a text or called them and told them you were getting in the car to be "OTW <someplace>." Why Why Why?!

I play drums and have a studio setup in my house where I record bands and do production work. I outsource most of my drumming now, i'm not in any bands at the moment due to time constraints.

I've been playing guitar for about 15 years now, primarily thrash and death metal. I have a bunch of crap recorded but it's all on my crappy boss digital recorder. I am just getting into computer recording, just bought me a MacBook Pro and a cheap line6 UX2 interface, trying to ease myself into it.

nice. i rap and make rap beats, but honestly i appreciate all music. (for the most part) youll enjoy recording on a computer. ive been making music since i was 12. i built my own booth (all hardware) around age 15 i started with a windows pc and last january moved to an iMac. best move of my career (engineer and production wise.)

here is some feedback and i preface it with saying congrats either way man, just my take on the cuts
suicide - i like the beat and the flow is nice...my two cents tone down the side noise and let the beat and the lyrics take center stage. I was going to say its pretty southern and saw the ATL so made total sense (i prefer more east coast hip hop)
blah blah - kill everything but the "bell sound" and the blah blah for the beat, i think its a pretty unique
extraordinary - i like it, the vocals are being dominated by everything else

Yeah the mac is awesome. I used to be a blind apple hater before, and then once I got my ipad my views started to change. All it took was an hour of playtime with the macbook pro before I decided to buy it, and it was one of the best decisions I have made in a while. I will most likely never buy another windows machine again, at least not for personal use.

Google my screen name, links will show up. Mysoace, soundclick etc. I used acid pro usually to mix. Haven't done much lately, I stopped smoking weed and im not as motivated anymore. Weird huh?

Definitely appreciate the feedback man... As far as the critiques, those are ALL mixtape tracks so from an engineering standpoint, not much you can do with a 2 track... know what I mean lol... I'll post up some 100% original material

Awesome! One of my favourite Cinematic Orchestra songs, and a sweet job on the drums too - I also liked the head mounted camera.

I play some over sized Bonham Ludwig's myself.
Still looking for a good drum kit app for the TF. Would be cool to do a "Moby ****" Solo on the kit and than switch to the TF for a cool timbali interlude.

Yeah the mic sucks real bad. It's a gopro. The mic is tuned for use outdoors (in high wind) so it didn't surprise me that it sounded bad. I'm working on a better way to do this using my drum mics and layering the original track on top of the drums w/ video editing s/w.
