No need to reboot, just switch airplane mode on and off.

I have not ran into this with my S5, I did with my Samsung Galaxy Nexus every once in a while though. Only time I had wifi issues with my S5 is when I had to reboot my network router and then I just toggled wifi off and then back on and has been good since.

I thinking it's a software/app problem as when it happens I'm still connected to wifi and everything else works as normal.

S5 Wifi issues
Hello
I had the same problem with my S5. I have updated ROM
and now it works but it eats my battery under 12 hours if I turn
wifi on. If I turn it off and don't touch my phone then it lasts for
several days. Is it a ROM issue or is it a hardware problem?
By the way, the battery is brand new and original.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you
Andras

Power usage when no SIM inserted

I've noticed something, hope someone can confim this; I've used my 7.7 tab with a SIM card inserted but removed it last week as I'm waiting to get a new SIM in the mail from a different provider. It seems that when there's no SIM in it the tab uses more power, the battery is drained quickly.
I'm using a custom ROM on it (Tweaked Stock for GT-P6800 Version 2.0)
Anyone out there who can confirm this?
cheers

I can confirm this, all samsung tabs seem to use more power when there is no sim card in them. You can try to enable airplane mode, this should turn radio off, but you can still enable wifi.

yes i can confirm my tab is consuming more power its like 10-15% an hour only wifi is working browsing internet
so i should consider putting a sim card to prevent hig drain of battery
turning airplane mode doesn't help
if someone can confirm it ?
I can confirm that even turning airplane mode when a simcard is present is causing higher power drain which is totally weird.

There's a mobile network setting and use packet data enable/disable it concerns also battery
Did anybody try switching radio off via the "test menu"? (dial *#*#info#*#*)
Sorry if this is a silly question. Just gathering info before deciding what version to get. I'm presuming that the WiFi ones don't have a sim slot at all, so this affects just the 3g ones? Did think that is was odd that I have heard a lot of people say that battery life is very good and some like yourselves say the hourly consumption is high.

This is pretty lame. I wonder if I used a non active sim, how it would behave. I don't want to buy a plan right now.

GS3 on Home Wifi

So I just came from an International GS3 and didn't have this issue, which is when I come back home my GS3 will not auto connect back to my home WiFi network, or I've noticed a few times that when at home it just drops the WiFi connnection all together.
Anyone have a fix for this?
Thanks

I wonder if the US GSIII has weaker wifi than the international version. Anandtech reported that the wifi radio on the GSIII is weak.
I wonder if it's the soc cuz the evolte WiFi behaves similarly to what you describe.
No problems here I usually turn on wifi when getting closed to home and if I'm looking at something as soon as a pull to driveway is already connecting

Well I have a Dula Band Apple Router so I switched the GS3 to 5 ghz and it seemed much better. In fact when I ran a speed test with the GS3 in Auto mode, it was all over the place, slow fast, very jerky, but when I ran it in 5GHZ it gave me the max speed on the test.
Now does anyone know if I leave it set to 5GHZ, will that use it for my home router or any router I try to connect to? So I guess Ill have to switch back if I come across a 2.5 router

And what does that do?
And how do you turn it back on?
It will give you better wifi performance, at least for me it did. *#0011# in the dialer, menu, click on wifi then power saver off, turn it back on the same way

is gps part of the problem ??
hi guys looking for some help here with the people that are having problems with their wifi ..i am having the same problem getting pissed about it cutting out , this might be something ..run a speed test on wifi with gps on and then run it with gps off .. i have ran it about 20 times and the numbers always come up the same ..here are some pics...if the mods want to delete the same thread in the international thread please do..low scores =gps on ....high scores gps off.. also if you go to location services and check wireless networks u will see your speed go sporadic
Prolly the easiest explanation for the GPS and low WiFi speeds is that this is a low power lte chip. The GPS, WiFi, lte & bt are on a single chip and can only have a certain maximum amount of voltage going to the chip. This would be a Qualcomm issue not Samsung.

[Q] Phone turns off randomly while charging.

So... This issue has happened to me 2 times so far.
I recently traded my iphone 5 mint for a Galaxy s4 mint, Had the guy @ AT&T check over both phones.
So i looked into issues with G4 after the first time it happened and thought maybe it was a battery issue. So i purchased a new battery off ebay.
My original battery looked fine and basically new, Model B600BU, got a new battery model B600BZ(Verizon model). Works fine with my phone, NFC works and everything.
My phone was FACTORY the first time it happened. This time it is ROOTED and it happened with the new battery.
It has only happened while it was plugged into the charger, the screen would not turn on but the BLUE light was blinking.
I could turn the device on and it would basically start up fresh... But I need my phone on, I use it as a WORK alarm...
Any ideas?
Ive only had that issue with crappy kernels. I dont believe its a issue known to the s4. Never happens to me. Maybe flash a rom or kernel and see if that fixes it

A factory reset should set it straight. It's not that it is shutting down, it is just freezing in the wake up process. It may be the kernel or the software itself. What firmware are you on?

Do a factory reset pull the battery out for 1 minute should be good to go
And wait for at least 5 minutes before the phone will start

Take her out for a romantic dinner and she will be surely turned on...
Take a look at my Icon Pack. Click here!
Your wife won't work? Well I guess you can't force her to... There's always divorce.
As for turning her on, I think you were looking for xxxda-developers.com maybe? ?

Verizon cell standby battery drain

Can someone that has the Verizon version of this phone check their battery stats and see if cell standby is high on the list.
Cell standby seems to be draining a lot of battery on mines.
Thanks
It's up there but not the most draining.

Yeah, it seems like a lot of us are having this problem on both the edge+ and note 5.
Most likely a bug in android 5.1.1
Try turning off wifi as a temp fix.

Unfortunately that won't work for me. TMobile can cover me about 1%-2% of the time while I am at work. Without WiFi calling its a $800 paper weight sadly. Spoke to TMobile via chat, they sent me to Samsung, Samsung said take it back for another so I will try another device just as part of my due diligence. If there is no improvement, as I expect there won't be, I will get another device. I was hoping that having Airplane mode on, with WiFi enabled would resolve this but that's a negative. 1 ****ing job Samsung lol
