Hey guys
Sorry i'm new here and I just brought my G2 yesterday. Now I have been doing some research and found that there is a root for LG G2 D802 V20 4.4.2 its called IOroot version 25 (I think)
Now my questions are:
Will this root my phone running 4.4.2 without needing to install a custom ROM? (so I don't lose any data).
Does this root work properly, because some people where having so issues with some framework thing.
Thanks, and sorry if this question has been asked before
Ok ioroot only roots your device, nothing more nothing less so no t does my install a custom Rom and yes it works properly

Another question i have is that I have heard around the place that doing the root will effect the battery life, is this true?

root doesn't affect battery life the only thing that root does is grant permission to edit android at a system level so that it can be modified for example to remove bloat and such

If I was to want to flash an app (example Apollo music) onto the phone what sort of root would I need for that? I assume I need twrp, so how would I install that aswell?

well first I don't think you can flash Apollo and am not sure if it will work on stock but the way it would work is simple you download a root browser for my example I used root browser basically you navigate to the system/app and place the apk you want to install there and add the rwrr permissions, reboot and it would be installed in the screenshots below I install a modded youtube.apk

You can't install a custom rom without root. You need busybox, SU and the root exploit to allow you to flash a custom rom. The reason the overclocking app doesn't work is because you don't have super user permission (part of rooting) and the stock kernel isn't scalable if I remember right. Point is no root no rom lol.

All wrong!
You can install ROM whitout being root. All you need is just flash the Vulnerable Recovery.
Once you have it, you are ready to execute the OR update.zip and boom.
From there you can root it or not.

absolutely correct..rooting the device is independent of updating the Rom..
I do keeping on changing roms without root.

That's what the op was asking (reference to scaling/overclocking)...you can't install a "custom" rom with a custom kernel, radio etc without root priveledges. Basic consumer handsets do not allow writing to the system partition(Hence the need for root. With the exception of ota updates or manual updates from the provider/manufacturer.)

first you need a custom recovery and you need supersu or superuser so that apps can granted root access so every rom either comes with ir preinstalled or makes a note saying you need to flash/install once you flash the rom

Recovery is all set, Thanks to you, Second im downloading a rom at my phone right now.. My question basicly is, Does it matter wich one supersu / superuser i have installed on phone at the moment right now when im going to flash a new rom ?
No it does not matter sometimes the rom has one already and changes the one you had previously it's not an issue just a matter of preference like the recoveries cwn and twrp are both great but you stick to the one you like most

Thanks The answer i wanted.. Hopefully my first flash goes well as im a little scared to brick my phone , Another question.... I was in this forum on my phone ,, And downloaded it direcly instead on the pc , You think that makes a diffrence for the install ?
Won't make any difference when you install also since you are now rooted and have custom recovery I recommend doing a nandroid back up in twrp/cwm so that if something does go wrong this is one of the different ways to recover to a state before a flash

So, a while back I installed the KitKit ROM for ATT before any custom ones were out.
I'm trying to flash the stock back onto my device with LG Flash Tool but it keeps telling me I have the wrong device for the .tot file and .dll file. It seems like my D800 is recognized as a D802 international G2. How can I fix this?
In settings > about phone it shows it as D800, but under software it shows D80220a. I also tried to install a custom recovery but that didn't work out. Gave me a certificate error.

it sounds like you have a custom rom like poweruser anyways if your device is d800 but shows d802 then you can try the dll in the poweruser thread which ignores model check for d800 only

So after I do this, and want to install a KitKat Rom such as : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2728703
what are the proper steps?
do I have to update to KitKat somehow again? Or can I just root / install custom recovery and flash and be good to go?

Yup install official att stock rom then acheive root using ioroot25 or ioroot23 after that install Autorec(by cloudyf) this will adjust your bootloader and install a custom recovery. after that install any custom rom you want.

Let it be known that I did NOT install the official stock KitKat ROM it was the other one,4.2.2. Will AutoRec still work?

I know its for D800, what I meant is whatever version his phone got changed to, this DLL will bypass model check; therefore allowing him to flash back the ATT stock. Maybe I should have worded differently.

I'm glad i passed the quality control check.
I just purchased a galaxy s5 from Verizon yesterday.
I want to root it and add a wife tethering app.
I have been researching how to do it, what I am concerned about is a lot of the information is somewhat old and I have heard that they have changed things on the phone.
Please give me a link to a current tutorial that will still work?
Thank you.

it is in multiple threads.. the root process has not changed since its been available.
you need to be on an older kk build (i use ncg) then use towel root.
Search my friend lol. Also, most L roms and other threads will also have specific instructions..
and i assume you mean you want to use your mobile data as a hotspot? most custom roms have this baked in..

you need to use odin to go back a 4.4.2 rom.. i would use ncg.. use towelroot latest apk, install busybox, and latest safestrap build for our phone..
once you have all this, you can flash a 5.0 L rom in safestrap, and then boot straight into download mode and odin the oa8 firmware only which should contain the oa8 kernel and oa8 modem only

Okay I installed odin.3.10.0
I installed the drivers to my computer and when I attached the phone I think it moved them there? Is that correct?
I downloaded g900vvru1ancg_full_odin.tar from the link in the thread you gave me and placed it on my computer.
I downloaded towelroot-v3 from the link in the thread you gave me. Do I place this on the removable sd card in my phone? then install to the phone like an app? Also can I install if from the removable sd card?
I downloaded safestrap-g900v-3.75 KitKat from the link in the thread you gave me. Do I place this on the removable sd card in my phone? Also can I install this from the removable sd card?
If I'm understanding this. At this point I will have a rooted phone with an earlier version of kitkat on it? Correct?
Then from safestrap recovery I install g900v_oa8_100%_stock_rooted_ROM which I placed on the removable sd card.
At this point I will be rooted with 5.0 on my phone correct?
Then to get the tether working I place the G900V_OAB_tetheringAddOn.zip on my removable card.
I then flash g900v_NK2_stock_kernel. Do I do this in Odin? or safestrap.
Then I flash G900v_OA8_Stock_kernel. Do I do this in odin or safestrap?
Am I correct in understanding that 5.0 stopped some of exploits used to root and change things on the phone and the work around is to flash completely back to an older version. Change what you need to change then flash back to the new version without overwriting the changes that were needed to be made?
Also, the second link you gave me. That's for a totally different ROM?

Coming from Stock (UNROOTED) OA8:
Check here for downloads: [SOFTWARE GUIDE]***Odin Back To Stock***[Root Files] Retail Verizon S5 Firmware Files
1-Download ROM.zip, TowelRoot.apk and Safestrap.apk and put it on an External Storage
2-Put phone in download mode by holding volume_down + power + home_key
3-Put NK2 Full Stock TAR [G900VVRU1ANK2_G900VVZW1ANK2_G900VVRU1ANK2_HOME.tar] in AP Slot in ODIN and flash it
4-Put phone in download mode holding volume_down + power + home_key
5-Once phone boots into stock NK2, go back to download mode, put NCG Kernel [NCG Kernel Only] in AP Slot in ODIN and press Start
6-Once it boots, install and run TowelRoot.apk [Towelroot] and make it rain! Then install Busybox (I use Busybox Installer) from the play store and then install Safestrap.apk [Safestrap Recovery v3.75] and once installed open it and Install Recovery. Some have had to repeat the Busybox and SU install before it will ask to update SU and disable knox.
7-At this point you should be able to boot into SS Recovery and make a backup and do an advanced wipe of everything but your SD card
8-Flash ROM.zip of your choice to stock slot, press HOME and then REBOOT and select DOWNLOAD MODE
9-If it is a rom later than NK2, flash the appropriate 5.0 Kernel for your device in AP Slot (PDA) in ODIN (AGAIN, DEODEX VERSION WILL TAKE UPWARDS OF 10-30 MINUTES ON FIRST BOOT ONLY)
For Android 5 ROMS, although Safestrap is still installed, it will not show until you flash NK2 kernel and reboot.
