first you need a custom recovery and you need supersu or superuser so that apps can granted root access so every rom either comes with ir preinstalled or makes a note saying you need to flash/install once you flash the rom

Recovery is all set, Thanks to you, Second im downloading a rom at my phone right now.. My question basicly is, Does it matter wich one supersu / superuser i have installed on phone at the moment right now when im going to flash a new rom ?

No it does not matter sometimes the rom has one already and changes the one you had previously it's not an issue just a matter of preference like the recoveries cwn and twrp are both great but you stick to the one you like most

Thanks The answer i wanted.. Hopefully my first flash goes well as im a little scared to brick my phone , Another question.... I was in this forum on my phone ,, And downloaded it direcly instead on the pc , You think that makes a diffrence for the install ?

Won't make any difference when you install also since you are now rooted and have custom recovery I recommend doing a nandroid back up in twrp/cwm so that if something does go wrong this is one of the different ways to recover to a state before a flash

[Q] Need some clarification on OTA update.

Ok I am full rooted thanks to un-revoked.
I have downloaded the new update on my phone but havent installed yet, Battery was to low so gave me a notification in status bar to update later.
I understand i have to flash to the Amon ra recovery.
all i want is the stock rom, with the ability to use wireless tether and adfree, so obviously i need superuser permission.
Will i have to flash to a stock rooted rom?? or will i just be able to install these and be good to go?? is there even a stock rooted rom out yet??
Thanks for any and help. love the site dont post much cause normally i can figure things out, but wanna double check on this one.
Here you go.

Make back up and perform full wipes.
You must install the rooted Rom for precautionary reasons.
so should i even update my phone then?? or should i just flash right to one of these?? seems like it would be easier just flashing right too those since i currently have clockwork installed.

No difference really. Just flash the odexed version and that is all. No kernel needed.
I'm not familiar with cwmod so I can't guide you through the flash but also you need to have an updated version.

Can't root

Universal androot didn't work, z4root didn't work, superoneclick failed and its starting to drive me insane enable root access is hidden from the hidden menu please help thanks in advance
Sorry if it has been posted somewhere else I searched but I couldn't find anything to help
Hi, what ROM did you used?
If you're using custom ROM, not stock ROM, it has already root.
nope im trying to root my friends phone for him he's on stock rom. i have rooted lots of other phone with superoneclick without any roblems but this ones a bit tricky :\
I'm afraid that you will have to flash custom ROM into it.
How can I flash a custom Rom onto it if its not even rooted?

You DO NOT have to root the GT540 to install Custom ROMs. You will need to flash a "Fastboot ROM" to install Recovery and Custom ROMs. There are plenty of guides here and on MoDaCo on how to flash custom ROMs. If a guide tells you to root your phone before flashing a ROM, don't. You don't have to.
Hope it helps,
Jack

No problems mate, It's just the GT540 differs from the rest in this case. I still stick to my views and think every phone should have an unlockable or already unlocked bootloader, Where no flash or w/e is necessary lol

Lost root after flashing to 4.4 from stock rom

Hey people it seems as though I lost root or at least "don't have proper root access" after flashing CMB rc3 ROM. I somehow updated SU binary but still am having issues gaining full root. If anybody has any information on how to help me it will be greatly appreciated.. I am also willing to go back to stock ROM and see if that works somehow but I forgot to backup stock ROM(I know I'm a moron) lol. I had the 4.2.2 OTA D80110g version prior to flashing to CMB.. Would greatly appreciate any help.

Hey thanks for your assistance but I wound up just downloading the rooted stock OTA ROM and re-flashing it and I'm fully rooted again. But do you by any chance know how to fix the issue of losing root after upgrading to 4.4? Does what you told me to do fix that completely and keeps me fully rooted on 4.4? Sorry I'm pretty new to this stuff.

if you flash to 4.4 aosp rom, you have to go into developer settings and set root as apps and adb. this will give you root access.
Assuming that you know what you have done, this is the very first case, not only in this G2 subforum but entire XDA site, that I've heard installing custom ROM and lost root.
The first reply hit the nail on the head, some ROM don't have root for example Omni ROM in originaaal android development....you flash supersu zip after ROM and gapps....looks like you have everything going good, good luck man!

Hey man if you want 4.4 is simple just download the supersu.zip and when your in recovery do the correct wipe then flash ROM and gapps then supersu zip then reboot!
Most Roms have root already like Paranoid android, Mahdi, aokp......Roms like the one you used and omni you need to flash the supersu zip afterward that's it
Yeah check developer settings for root or flash super su zip, also slimkat and others have working root.

Unless there is a theme style then there isn't a way.
Also you should have posted this here to get an answer to your query.
Your topic heading makes it seem like it's a how-to xD you might wanna be a bit more careful with the headings...
Also, I'm 99.99% sure you cannot install CM without rooting. Well, you might be able to just flash recovery and flash CM on it, but I won't advise something I haven't done

rooting before flashing a custom rom is useless, flashing recovery and then flashing a custom rom is how it should be done.. but ppl have just made rooting one of the steps, and now new users think rooting is actually necessary to flash a custom rom..

I've almost given up on successfully rooting and installing custom ROM on my Galaxy Note3 (N900V) It seemed that there were roadblocks at every method that I thought would work with my Verizon Note 3. The above quote suggest (to me) that rooting is no longer necessary but that it can be done simply by flashing a recovery (CWM or TWRP??) and then flashing the custom ROM.
Instructions usually assume a Windows computer to flash via usb cable. I'm running Linux so where can a find a step by step guide that will let me install Cyanogenmod or some other custom ROM that will let me debloat, and perhaps improve function on my Note 3 which I plan to be keeping for the foreseeable future.
krustybaguette
Suggest you ask in the forum for your model .

Doesn't the Verizon version of the Note 3 have a locked bootloader that must be unlocked before flashing TWRP or a non-TW based ROM? Heimdall can flash TWRP in Linux: http://glassechidna.com.au/heimdall/
Doesn't the Verizon version of the Note 3 have a locked bootloader
yes its locked .

Questions about CyanogenMod

Hey guys, I'm new here.Soon my new Nexus4 will arrive and i have some questions about installing cyanogenmod.
1.Can I install cyanogenmod with the new cm installer on this device??
2.If this is possible and i install cyanogenmod, how do i update the version if a newer one is released ??
3.I red that the cm intaller install a custom recovery too, if i dont like the cyanogen mod can i install other roms or i must do something before ??
4.If i use this cm installer i know that i will lose my warranty, am i right ?? And if yes, is there any posiblity to restore the phone to original state (i mean lock back the bootloader and others) ?
Thanks
On the same page of this forum is a Cyanogenmod Q & A thread, I would start there and READ.

I prefer installing ROMs through a custom recovery because you can unlock the bootloader and install a custom recovery without disturbing the phone's existing ROM.

3) Yes, you can install other ROMS and gapps from recovery.
4) Yes, you can use google's stock images to restore your phone to original state.

Not actually, you need to flash it via fastboot after installing device drivers from your computer. Which is a small tool that comes with Android SDK. (You can find it everywhere)
But I am sure there are flashable recovery ZIPs for stock ROMs on this forum.

Here's a link to WUG's toolkit that can help with your Nexus 4: http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/
Being that you're a noob (just like me) you may want to try flashing things with the android SDK instead of a toolkit (not saying it's bad, I've actually never used it). I just started messing with my nexus 4 using the SDK and some of the write ups here and found them really helpful and I learned a lot. Then again, if you consider yourself computer illiterate (not saying you are, your choice) you may WANT to use the toolkit. Just my .02.

By using that CM installer to unlock bootloadder and install cwm and cyanogenmod, is there any change to brick the device or any incompatiblities ?? Just take the phone out of box install that CM app on the phone and on the pc and start ??
Edit: The app is no more in playstore, from where can i take that official app ??

You can download app as an apk file from their site: http://beta.download.cyanogenmod.org/install
It is a Nexus device, so it is hard to brick it.
I have been using custom ROMS from first day I bought the device and I haven't got a problem. As I said you can revert back to stock ROM or just try another ROM.
No one can warrant you that everything will work and there is always a chance of brick, but not too much if you do everything right.
so just update to latest official version of kitkat and then i use that cm installer without anything to do before like root or unlock bootloader ?
