Hi, I've heard some G2 users complaining about poor FM radio reception compared with their old smartphones.
What do you think about?
It will be interesting if someone do the comparison with two phones tuned to same station and Spirit FM running on them and post his signal (dBm)

Heard where? Not seen anything about it... source would be useful for balance. Please provide link(s).
There is no RSSI/dBm display on the Stock FM Radio app... so Spirit is the only method of approximately gauging RF signal strength. And the Spirit RSSI figure varies between phones IIRC.
On what phone and firmware? On the d802, 10A/B's FM radio performance was abysmal but 10E, 10F and 20B/C are very good. I use FM OTA radio EVERY day, and the RF and audio quality are vital for me. The G2 (on later firmware) is excellent.
Spirit on AOSP/CM is not great due to using an old open-source Broadcom driver, but is ok on Stock as it uses the Broadcom OEM driver.
For info, the older HTC Desire earphones are the best for reception.
In best to worst order, my recent experience of FM radio quality is:
Sony Z, Sony ZL, (Qualcomm FM chip), LG G2, (Broadcom FM chip), GS3, GS2 (Silabs FM chip).
Worst are HTC ONE, ONE S - by a long chalk.

Had HTC one X before. Would say FM signal is not worse. At work still need to be next to the window . Maybe even little better. But where are the ppl complaining? Also make a poll

Is there a way to figure out which radio is best to use in your location? Like a US-east radio?
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
With enough user feedback, this thread may become that but a I think the only way right now is by trying them, give each radio about a week unless there is some major performance issue, doing a few speed tests and deciding which worked the best. Although a superthread about radio performance by region is a great idea, it would just take time and a lot of feedback and managing the feedback to work well.

yes because only att sells the atrix 4g in the US. they will most likely work on tmobile just flash different ones til you get the best results. the radio thread has ones for other countries as well check it out. Atrix RADIOS

thats what i get using the 36p in San Diego, California
Be careful with AT&T 36/37 outside of North America. It may have poor WiFi in Europe. N_100 European is seems to me more balanced.
Most problems with battery loss is due to unnecessary Alarm Wake-ups and Networks Locations (especially in my case).
When I disable Network Locations my battery lasts maybe as twice as longer.
All the above is based solely on my own experience for two days of "radio madness".
So AT&T Atrix's can flash any radio?
Probably a stoopid thread, but I can honestly say that this thing rocks!
Every smarty phone I've had to date had multiple things that made me go ARGGGGGHH.
my SIII has done everything I've asked of it. Bluetooth, data reception, wifi, phone reception etc has all been spot on.
Usually at some point on my previous phones I'd go.....wtf !?! But honestly, I have not said that yet. I've found that if it was unfamiliar or different than my previous phones, I usually like it once I figure it out.
Now Tmo's reception......not so good.
But I like Tmo though. After many bad experiences with other carriers, they've been a pleasure, over all, to deal with.
Positive rant over........
True. This phone is excellent. A joy to use and even after I have all my apps and settings loaded it is still lightning fast. Oh and the camera is great.

Well that s4 proceessor handles a lot of that too. Qualcomm deserves some credit.

A different experience compared to our G2x's isn't it? Loving mine so far. You're in Texas so you may like this. I found a nice case at the T-Mobile store that is silver. Combined with the blue phone it looks great and is Dallas Cowboys colors!

Well, mine won't do wifi tethering, FM radio, toggle LTE, or several other things. But that's all thanks to AT&T, not the phone itself
I have the T-Mobile version and I've noticed some quirks and was hoping for some answers.
First Google Keyboard, why does it sound like a typewriter instead of the traditional ticking noises heard on the Galaxy S4?
Next is there a way to make WiFi Calling sound better? When I use cellular service the call quality sounds decent but during WiFi it sounds bad.
When I download something why doesn't it show up in downloads? I downloaded a new .apk from tapatalk to help them diagnose a problem with a forum. Went to my download app via app drawer and its not there. Had to go to the download folder via file manager to find it.
How do I access or turn off my clipboard. I use Dashlane and find this to be a huge security flaw. It stores way too many passwords or things.
Cyanogenmod support is this possible?

I also have t mobile variant of this phone, and I have not noticed the wifi issue you have explained. In fact it sounds a lot better for me, it might be your wifi itself, slow speeds = lower quality. Only thing I see fit is too get a faster wifi, or better signal. As for cm support its possible we are waiting for unlocked boot loader.

Tapatalk download in ANY phone won't show up because of the way it downloads. Dunno about clipboard. And..the phone hasn't been out for two weeks. Wait for more roms.

How much speed is needed for good WiFi calling? Perhaps it is my phone specifically. Typically I get around 50Mbps but for some reason I can't get past 35Mbps. Not sure what's going on.

Well I just got a replacement phone and it sounds the same. The guy at T-Mobile says he hears it too but doesn't think its bad. He thinks its just the way its designed. He went ahead and gave me a replacement just to "appease" the customer I'm sure but at the end of the day it sounds the same.

I just received the Xperia X (usa version). When I go into a specific building that has bad reception my Xperia Z5 always was able to work fine and get internet. The Xperia X won't receive calls and the internet just hangs. Does the X Performance have a better signal strength and antenna or is this just an anomaly of the Xperia X?

X has cat6. Perofrmance has cat9.
However that's a speed connectivity comparison & not necessarily a connection advancement, I maybe wrong.

I've XP and z3c,XP has significant worse signal strength than z3c, I'm using z3c again and will not go back to XP. It's really first time I'm too disappointed with Sony. Probably my last ever
I just made a test today, in network settings i set in favorit network wcdma instead of LTE and it work better, less gsm lost. This test make me mind it's a software issue... I hope !

I'm having the same issue with the LTE reception on my x performance.
Most of the time i get no bars at all. And mobile data is a lot slower than my galaxy s5 before.
Is this issue confirmed or solved by the last firmwares?
Thanks
No good - T-Mobile & AT&T
Comment with newest firmware as of 27 September 2016

I am pretty disappointed by the performance of this Sony X "Performance" regarding signal strength.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 next to it at a window and the X Performance gets a regular 60% slower performance than the S6 next to it that was released a year before.
I have tried it with both T-Mobile and AT&T in the same location.
I believe it to be a software issue at this point. Why do Sony phones these days have these terrible game ending problems?
Hi all!
Just getting aquanted to a new android head unit. It´s branded Hizpo and runs Android 10 on px5/rockchip3368 with 4/64 gb memory. Unrooted.
MCU: S32F0_yunht-18-W_20191115_HD1_7708_D_FF_C8
For most parts it´s working really well. But in one area I´m a bit disappointed: the FM radio audio quality.
While reception on the antenna is strong without static, audio is harsh with very strong mids but very little bass. To some degree this can be compensated with adjusting the DSP with full setting on the lower freq and lowest on the rest. But it´s still not pleasant to hear.
In the meanwhile streaming on for example spotify sounds really good.
How can this differ so much and is there anything to try to do to fix it?
The radio IC is NXP6686 according to the listed scecs.
Thanks in advance for any input!
Well did som complaining to the store on AliXprs about the poor FM audio quality and actually got a response and a firmware update file! Will be interesting to try. Will report back.
Nope, no improvement. Probably because I got exactly the same version as already installed. "Fun" to discover after the hazzle with resetting etc . Have reported back to seller and waiting for response. Maybe they´re playing me?
Don't count on any after sales support for the low end units. I was going to suggest checking if the radio app doesn't kill the equalizer (mine did before I replaced it) but it looks like you looked into equalization.
You can try another radio app, but that requires root...not a lot of fun, trust me.
After more back and forth with the "support" I suddenly was sent a MCU update file that they want me to try.
According to the file name it's a newer version from march this year (current version is from 2019):
tbandmcu_S32F0_yunht-18-W_20200313_HD1.bin
Since I'm about to head out on the road next week I'm not ready to risk anything so I will wait with running the update until I'm back.

Finally got around to updating the new MCU I got from support a couple of weeks ago.
Update went smooth. Dunno if it's placebo, but I think FM audio quality has improved a bit.
But still Spotify and other streaming sounds better.
Maybe I just have to get used to it.
And streaming internet radio over a LTE router works really well so no Biggie any more.
Pics of versions before and after the update:
