Hello Im posting this thread because to me, the HTC One m8 is not a big upgrade as they try to say.
One of the few things i liked about the m8 is the duo Camera effects (deepfield)
So i found an app to be able to do that. Its called " after focus" and it makes the deep field effect that the m8 duo Camera has. You can get the pro version to be able to save bigger size photos. So since we already have some Roms with sense 6. I think the m8 is not a big upgrade if having the m7.
What you guys think?
Here some samples

yes man, i agree with you.. i expected M8 would had an important improvement in main camera.. but this there was in front camera 0.0
also i don't like the virtual buttons on the screen, because now the phone is really long respect to the screen, in fact we have the top and bottom speaker, the unuseful bar with "htc" and the "bar" with the virtual buttons -.-"

Yeah i didnt like that part neither. I dont know whats the purpose of having that black bar with the HTC logo. Its just a waste of space, but there is something there that maybe we will know later

There are lot of integrated connections below that black bar (as per HTC official)..
Nice app. Interesting to play around with to get those effects. I guess it'll have to do until I decide to pull the trigger on an M8

this is the reason man
here is one I did in like 2 mins. on the free version I think it did a good job without spending alot of time
i already use AfterFocus apps before UFocus release, but i believe UFocus way is easy than AfterFocus did
and i believe our m7 can do selective focus aka bokeh as well as the m8 did. Because we have the same Apeture, F2.0
while i learn basic photography, there a technique to do that
- use the largest apeture, which our m7 have F2.0
- get close with the object and choose a shooting angle so that the foreground and background of the shot are further apart.
This makes the background be very out of focus.
here my sample pic with m7, original, without AfterFocus, full size pic
and this after use AF free, that the size really small

Source? And yeah it is software. The second camera just makes it so that the phone doesn't have to take 10 pictures while you hold it steady.

Afterfocus is doing this purely on software side with some nice tricks.
It's easy to use and produces exciting, but not always accurate or outstanding results. But is definately is worth the money to give certain images a great little touch up.
I bought AfterFocus a while back and didnt regret it.
Though its definately not compareable with the M8 technique. The M8 doesn't compute and produce this effect (uFocus) purely on Software-Side, the second Sensor for depth calculation is there for a reason. At the moment, the algorithm for uFocus isnt quite there yet where HTC and I guess most users want it, and HTC already said that they're improving the precision at the very moment.
With the right tuning, I guess it could produce a way better effect that it does now.
Nevertheless, I just did a small test from within the Car with AfterFocus and I am, as always, pretty pleased with the outcome, even if its not optimal and a 100% accurate. But it's fun to play around with, especially in combination with apps like Snapseed and Pixlr Express.
Its far from a "realistic" shot, more like an artistic approach. Please dont mind the "dirty spots" on the steering wheel since I didnt clean the car during winter time. Next week the car is getting a serious cleaning treat
First image - Stock photo
Second image - processed by AfterFocus with slight addtional post processing
Third image - AF processed image with additional post processing by Snapseed and Pixlr Express.
but the problem with the m7 camera is that you can t focus things that s far away and not near by. so everything is better than the m7 camera. I tried it with m7 and m8. and this time they've done it better. but for this price it s also very poor.. or get I wrong ?

So today I stopped by phones 4 u on the high street and had a look at the Nexus. I love the design but my God it is big. There's a pic attached to show you the size comparison. The screen is so much better than the XL but its a bit disappointing that it still has a 5MP camera when the XL has an 8MP Camera.
I've fallen for it and will hopefully have mine in my hands tomorrow Will submit a system dump asap. But still gotta figure out how to root it :?

Do you honestly need to take 8mp pictures? You do realize that MP is only the size of the image and has absolutely nothing to do with the actual image quality right?

Exactly....look at a picture taken with a very old Nikkon D40 and compare it with any size MP point and shoot, it's not even close in quality. This is like everyone complaining about the lack of an exynos processor, doesn't seem to have any lag in any video or review I have seen. Specs are fine to use, just need to keep them in perspective and use them appropriately.

Thank God someone else knows what I'm saying. The lack of understanding is just amazing to me. People should really do research before talking. As far as I know about the processor, that the processor its using can typically be way overclocked. Plus now that we have full hardware acceleration, things will run very very well.

TI omap 4460 is a 1.5ghz processor that is underclocked for the GN, hence it can be clocked to that for sure and probably up to 1.8 or so. They designed ICS to be optimized for TI Omap processors. Now, I am less impressed with the gpu that comes with it, it is definitely the lowest powered of the top mobile chips. This is a beast of a phone and I hope we see some news on an HSPA version in the US.

LOL. Yeah, it is big. I just visited that site vonapets url'd and compared all my current phones (N1, SGS, Nexus S, Galaxy S II, Thunderbolt, Droid Charge) to the Galaxy Nexus: http://www.phone-size.com/?s=12,13,65,7,85,3 , and it's not much larger, and actually ~25% thinner, than the largest of my phones (the Charge) which fits easily in my slacks and jeans front pockets. Someone wearing painted on jeans might have issues I guess.
The Charge and SGS II are just a little too large for my hands to use comfortably one-handed. My thumb can't reach the bottom left of the phone without putting it in a precarious balanced position. The big 4.3" screens are great, though. I'm afraid the new Nexus might cross that threshold of being to big to be practical for me, but I'll still probably get one. LOL

This attitude. Now that everyone has read a few articles on sensor technology it seems EVERYONE feels the need to school people on cameras.
Yes, it's true, MP doesn't have that much to do with it. But the Galaxy Nexus camera is piss poor. It produces results almost identical to the NS camera, which i feel was essentially the same as the N1 before it. Look how far mobile cameras have come in the HTC titan and the iPhone 4S. For a flagship phone in this price range, this is simply unacceptable. For Samsung, even moreso as the shooter in the GS2 is much better. No wonder people make the 5MP 8MP comparison.
People need to stop being apologetic towards companies, and start calling them out on their mistakes. The processor in the Galaxy Nexus is acceptable, but the GPU is really not up to par with today's superphones. The plastic case construction is an improvement over the fisher-price NS, but still cheap garbage compared to the designs of HTC and Apple, yet they charge the same price.
Enough. Stop trying to school people and school the companies instead. It's the only way we'll get better products.
WOOT! Please excuse my terrible spelling!
Ok so as many of you now know i an the pround owner of a galaxy nexus, the latest in the pure google software phones. The nexus seems to be gathering a fair bit of interest around the forum so i thought i will do a cmoparison of the two.
Now it would be silly to comapre benchmarks in quadrant or lin pack packs as we all kow the Nexus will kill te x10 in these (once benchmarking works properly in android 4.0) i have not even attempted a single benchmark at this point.
Screen and display
So to start with i guess alot of you must wonder how it feels in hand being a large phone with 4.65 inch screen, the answer is actually it feels very comfortable and having quite large hands i find it sits in my hand easier than hte x10. Some of you will know the Nexus has a curved screen, this worried me a little but if im honest you can barely tell its curved when your using it. While we are talking about screens not all of you will know that the Nexus is the first device to received a supre amoled HD screen, resoltution of 1280 x 720 (720p basicly) and the display is absolutly georgeus, rich and bright colours, very dark blacks. I did find yesterday when i was first using the phone whites had a kind of mild tint of yellow to them but this seems to be not so bad now, the colour spectrum now looks more normal and natural. Not had any issues so far veiwing in natural daylight outside but it is winter here in Uk and not much light during the day anyway. The screen is of course actual multitouch.
We all know about the x10 buggy dual touch and resolution is 840x450 and its just a normal lcd screen which can be hard at times to see in direct sun and is 4 inches big without 16 million colours. The difference in quality really is amazing, not just because of 16 million colours but the resolution and screen type. They are like chalk and cheese or cheese and chalk which ever you find tastes nicer
Screen scrolling of the Nexus is smoother than silk, i now know what people mean by eye-gasms lol If your interested the gingerbread crt screen screen on / animations are still there plus some that look similar to iphone for turning landscape to portrait or vice versa.
Performance
As previously stated i have not ran any benchmarks yet but the Nexus is a monster when it comes to speed and performance in general, it comes with a 1.2 ghz texus instroments processor. It has actually been under clocked by 300mhz for Nexus, meaning this dc processor is naturalally a 1.5 ghz monster, turned down presumabley to conserve battery. We all know x10 is 1ghz single core snap dragon with current maxium over clock to 1.2 ghz where it gets unstable for most.
Its a little hard to talk about the performace without general benchmarks to give a rough idea but let me tell you there is not a hint of any lag of any kind trying to use pretty much anything. I did find some lag while typing a PM to a good friend here on xda in landscape mode but quite a lot of apps wont have been updated to fully supportive of android 4.0 at this time so any update will sort that. Yesterday i did a full back up of my apps (system and data) and data on the nexus in titanium and it took about 45 seconds to a minute to complete, x10 can take a few minutes some times.
Software
I think everyone here knows the Nexus lauches with android 4.0.1 aka icecream sandwhich. It is very intuitive and easy to use, very easy to navigate and its on a whole other level compared to gingerbread. Espicially with the time taken to make everything look really very beutiful using mainly black, grey and blue with some greens and whites. If anyone is running cyanogenmod 7.1 there is a free icecream sandwhich for theme chooser which gives a a good idea of what to expect.
The launcher nativly supports folders which is very very handy for keeping stuf tidy together and organised. The folders couldnt be simpiler to create, simply drag an icon ontop of another and theres your folder and just keep adding till your heart is content! The launchre reminds me of the arc style one with the bar at the bottom with space for 4 things whch can be changed and folders can be added into these 4 spaces. With hte nexus you get most of the google apps pre installed which is nice, including a new version of google music with built in eq and its beutiful to use. There are also nice sound effects as you go through menus and for certain key presses, not as cheesy as the touchwiz noes or so noicey which annoyed me on touch wiz on sgs2. The software really is the best thing about the nexus
Camera
This is probably what most x10 users including me are concearned about, it has only 5 mp camera. Get the idea out of your head more Mp means better picture. Yes nexus only has 5, but what it does with those 5 is what counts! Pictures are taking almost instantly, google brags over zero shutter lag and i can see why! You can literally get probably about 3 pics in the time it takes to get one off x10! Actual flash is supported, flashes twice for red eye reduction and the led is very very bright, beats x10 photo light by miles. There is a native panorma camera feuture built in to the camera which is nice to use, upto 1080p video recording and 1.3mp front camera. This can be used for face unlock. Yes thats right, face unlock, when hte screen is locked simply point the front cam at your face which it recognises as you and will unlock the phone. I hear your questions about security, yes its not the best in hte world, it will owrk with a photo or if your phone is stolen in your sleep provided its light enough for te caerato see you. Its more of a fun thing at this time!
I will be uploading some sample photos later on for you guys to see. they will be in doors at night in my study where the pc is so excuse any mess in advance!!
Hardware
So i already talked about dual core, and camera but there is a few other things worth mentioning like for example hw buttons, or more to hte point lack of! There is 3 buttons in total on hte outside of the phone, power on (screen controls) and volume up and down rockers. Thats it, dead simple and anymore now i odnt find needed. All the buttons for apps, back and multitask are on screen. I hear another question, wheres menu? To put it simply menu is built in on screen for any apps that use or need it and not shown at all times. The mulittask button is much more functional to just switch between apps in a breeze.
Also worth noting is lack of sd card support. The phone comes in 16gb version or 32 gb (not released yet to my knowledge). The internal storage is lightning fast to brwose through, faster than class 10 sd card so i have read but nothing to back me up on that. I have the 16 gb and its fine for me. This choice may have something to do with googles plans for google music where you will be able to stream music from your library based on pc to your phone anddownload frequently used albums or tracks and eventually buy albums and tracks directly through the android market itsself (already happening in USA).
You will be pleased to hear that the headphones work normally, buy any set with built in mic and they will work without holding in hte mic button for musivc to sound normal, unlike sony you had to hold in hte button if you had decent headphones of your own.
Conclusion
Its the best phone iv ever had, probably one of the best on the market to date and after spending smoe time with it you will not want to use anything else. My x10 has been untouched and unloved for almost 24 hours. I recommend anyof you to get get one. BUT rooting is kind of a pain in hte arse, you have to first unlock bootloader then flash this superboot.img through adb (no recovery as of yet) and it has hard for me to get the drivers needed for fastboot. It took me quite along time to get root and unlocked bootloadre with the help of a dev, had it not been such a pain with the drivers it would of been much much easier and was straight forwards when the drivers were ok. Just so you you know you need working adb on your pc for root and bootloader.
So i hope this is an ok write up with enough detail, its taken mne long enough to type lol If anyone has questions please post and il do my best to answer when i can.

But thanks for the comparison, i was waiting for a honest review from someone who came from an x10 as well. Now it's even harder for me to wait. Dispatch date should be tomorrow though
Two more questions just came to mind:

I'm not too bad, my main down fall is I don't have another camera to film all that on though. The browser is very fast though, lag only happens while typing sometimes on xda otherwise it just flys through everything with ease.

Thx for the pics, the camera seems to be quite decent in low light/artificial illumination. X10 always gets blurry when I try to take pics like these. And you seem to have the same problem with X10 The shutter is just too slow after the phone focuses.

The All new HTC One (M8) will soon arrive :fingers-crossed:
And you want to talk about it :fingers-crossed:.
But all you could post would be off-topic to HTC One M7 Forum .
So here is the solution: This thread is meant as a catch-all thread for HTC One (M8) related stuff. It is accepted by moderating staff and will be in place until the M8 will get its own forum. Then it will be moved there.
Here is how it will work:
- Only post M8-related stuff here, no comparisons, no off-topic.
- All forum rules of HTC International forums apply
- Post ALL M8 related stuff here. Do not open new threads as they will be closed eventually by moderators.
MOD Edit: Examples of things allowed in this thread:
- Release dates
- Hardware speculation (no comparisons)
- Software speculation (again no comparisons)
- Leaked Pics/Vids
Please stick to these simple things and you will be able to talk about the next big thing without getting your stuff removed or closed.
Cheers guys

Any word on if there will be a Google Play Edition?
Usually how long does a Google Play Edition phone release after the carrier versions?

No answer available yet afaik. But I bet there will be one. And as the One was the first HTC that had a Google Edition, there is no "usually" yet. The "Google Edition" in principle was invented after the One (M7) was released, so I guess this time it won't take long.
Thanks
I'm just curious about two things. Battery life and camera quality. These are the two things that really irked me about my One. SD card looks like it's there but I can manage with 32gb on the phone. I just want a battery that lasts long enough. I see people on here getting 5 hours screen on but only with WIFI and/or having brightness at 0.
As for the camera. I hardly use it since its gone purple and I haven't got a spare phone to send it off. Also the low megapixel count really was an issue when looking at pictures on a PC or TV. Fine for Instagram and Facebook but thats it
Watched viral video of HTC One M8
I found these changes good & bad according to me
GOOD
SD card
Dual rear camera
Big battery
Next level single piece aluminum body
Notification light position & style
Power button placement
BAD
No beats audio (I know mini max was without that & beats gone)
Headphone jack at bottom huh
HTC bezel still there with same size and onscreen button ( developers looks like a fool ) best way make HTC glowing & function as home
Setting no color all white ( this is not 1956 B/W TV )
Some people also expected fingerprint scanner
Back looks more round not good for put on flat surface and use
Some also expected water resistant body

Upgrading to the M8?
What I like: 3 gig of ram, SD800 processor, SD card slot. What I really don't like is the onscreen buttons. I use Nova Launcher and have my M7 configured 6 rows by 7 columns. The 7th row is the dock. But with the M8 it may not be possible to get 6 rows because of the space the onscreen navigation buttons take up. I may not be able determine the number of useable rows until I get the M8 in my hands and install Nova launcher. When you are short on space, the icons will partially cover up the text below the icons. Anyone using Nova launcher have any thoughts on this? Here is my present homescreen :

Got to say from the leaked video everybody seen there's really nothing that's going to make me want to upgrade, I mean to be fair it's last year's hardware and same screen, except camera, i feel the design has taken a step back really only thing I liked was the gunmetal colour, yes it will have bigger battery better camera and be a bit quicker +sd , i suppose what's really annoying me is the on screen button's, just doesn't make sense having on screen and still having the part with the htc logo, was really looking forward to it and all, think I'll be giving it a miss
Yeah I don't know why they messed it up with keeping the HUGE bottom bezel with on screen buttons. Will still probably get one

Another "meh, me too" here. Woohoo - green blink feed . You can see from my list below how many HTC's I've had and also bought for the rest of the family too, son, wife, managed to get HTC as the phone of choice at work too but with the ridiculously slow (and possibly broken) recent update, the complete lack of imgination which has gone into the next model (if indeed that is it in the video), returned units for purple tint this year, I'm gonna have a look around the competition this year and throw some money at them for once. Not good enough htc (from last year and what appears in that video), sorry.

It's S-OFF. If someone tells me how to backup the current recovery i will try and install TWRP and make a nandroid backup.

Is that bottom bezel really like that or is this just the developer (I know it's there wishful asking lol ). Do the onscreen at least dissappear in the browser ?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
I personally won't be getting the M8 at any point. It doesn't really feel like an upgrade and I'm still just as happy with the One as when I got it.
We'll get the Sense 6 update on the M7 pretty quickly anyway + I've got no qualms with my current battery life or camera quality. Even expandable storage isn't something which would make me want to upgrade considering I'm finding 32GB to be enough anyway.
As I said right from the beginning (as can be seen in my review found in my sig), this is the first HTC device I've had and I've definitely been impressed so as long as HTC can keep up with this level of build quality and beast of a phone, I'll surely consider getting more HTC's in the future.

Was really hoping the phone that kid had was a prototype, but it's too genuine and finished looking, and also it looked like he had it for a while too, even though people got to see the m8, that kid and that video ruined it and i think that is the general feeling, I know the phone will be better but it shouldn't be seen like that for the first time, the HTC one was and is a great phone and a more mature and grown up experience, people bashed blinkfeed and the camera but most agree now that blinkfeed brings something different, other companies have tried similar but there not the same, and in fairness the camera is good people expect to much, just look at how popular that selfie at the Oscars was with what 2mp, did anyone say that picture was ****?

The onscreen buttons didn't dissappear while i was browsing. Only on the homescreen, the black bar with the buttons is transparent (see image below).
When the device is locked the three buttons are replaced with an arrow and you can swipe up for google now.
Also, the padlock supports swipe up to unlock, swipe right for blinkfeed and swipe left (for me it does the same as swipe up).

The main thing which got people liking BlinkFeed more was the ability to remove it natively.
Pre-Sense 5.5 I didn't like BlinkFeed and moved it to a different screen until a dev was able to remove it. Within a few days of the update and therefore being able to remove it without flashing anything, I really started to like it and use it much more often.
I understand that HTC wanted to force it upon people so that they'd like it BUT they'd have had more success if they had that feature from launch.

Solid device. I do prefer the M7 look a little better with the chamfered edges vs the rounded of this one.

Aw man, it looks like they're taking a page out of Samsung's book and using silly gimmicks to help sell devices. On the other hand, it worked for Samsung so...
Idk. I can't see myself using the refocus/3d tool on pictures I take. I don't really need that functionality - I'd prefer to have higher resolution photos. At first I thought I'd be fine cutting my MPs in half til someone on this board brought up the work schedule example where being able to zoom in was crucial to being able to read a snapshot of a schedule. I use my camera for stuff like that all the time.
I suppose I will withhold judgement til reviews start popping up with camera comparisons. Despite all this, there is one certainty in my mind: I absolutely will not buy a GS5.

Agree completely!
Original HTC one is far more beautiful!
However additions are welcomed and this MIGHT be my next phone!
BTW to old HTC one owners (I mean old HTC One 2013 and not old owners ), I have some questions:
-Does it have screen mirroring or miracast (sharing your whole screen in whatever software on your smart tv)?
-Does it have smartshare or whatever is called (sharing your photos/videos on your smart tv)?
-Call recorder that records both ways?

Exactly my sentiments. Despite the camera, I am still VERY satisfied with this phone. Just pure awesomeness. It is a league classier than the iPhone and the M8. The only direct competitors in the design dept.

I don't mean to speak out of turn but your experience will be relative to what device and camera quality you are accustomed to. If you compare with the likes of the HTC One m7 m8, the OG Moto X or the nexus 4 then you will find the Z3 a big improvement. However, if you are coming from a Galaxy s4/5 or an iPhone 5s/6, then it will be only 'comparable'. Comparable because 1. Sony shines, excuse the pun in the low light area of photography 2. It has better slow motion control in video compared to the others and does give you that 20mp sensor with hardware two stage shutter button 3. I found the digital image stabilization to be better than Apple's OIS (see Btekt youtube vs video). But it is underwhelming when compared to the competition when it comes to zoomed in detail, capture speed and motion blur reduction in still photos. I hope that helps.
I do think this can be addressed with some firmware updates from Sony. They have sent FW updates to the Z2 in the past and made improvements to the camera this way.
For me this is the second best phone I have ever had. Topped by htc one m8. I like the screen more on this one but everything else goes to htc. Even the camera.
Sony should do something with the software.

I respect your view sir. It is strange that almost every independent review has rated the m8 as the worst performing camera. Mainly due to the low amount of detail. If what you say is true, then the Z3 would be a new low. LOL. Peace.
Best multimedia device to me. Not the the best at any one thing, but well rounded and good at everything. Give me a good swiss army knife any day over the sharpest kitchen blade! Thats the z3!
Coolest and geekiest (in a good) way device. N900. That thing was like minipc with ancient specs that they just decided to slap phone app to! Lol. Damn i miss that thing!
Best phone ever purely on phone aspect.... N95-8gig baby what else! Lol!

Whatever makes you happy and fits your needs! But the M8 will never take pics like these in the link below. Plus if you wanted to crop one to get a close up of one of the animals. The 4 MP in the M8 really falls apart.

i came from an M8 to the z3. i think everything about the Z3 (in terms of what it has to offer) is better then the M8 maybe except the design of the phone. am really liking the Sony UI as well as the intense battery saving functions. This is the first phone so far for me that I can leave it unrooted with everything on (location, google services) and not have to worry about the battery dying mid day.

What makes this phone fall apart is the inconsistency of the pictures. Sometimes you get a nice result but more often you end up disappointed. M8 on the other hand while not the best camera is quite consistent, you know what you will get. You won't get zoomamble images but on phone screen gorgeous.
When I used it a lot of people said that wow this phone takes nice pictures.
But yup, still on Sony. It's growing on me.

But also I notice that Sony is not as comfortable to hold. They did round the edges so it's better than z2 but still m8 feels quite nice with the curved back.
But let's see, now when it's time to apart from Sony I am getting hesitant

lol I'm completely the opposite. I would always get my finger in the M8 lens. so far I havent gotten my finger in the Z3 lense yet
some people are putting way too much emphasis on the camera. Realize one thing people, you use a phone to take pictures for social media, you are not going to use it for your professional work, so for something like an HTC one M8 it should be more than enough. Also, Megapixel isn't everything, the Iphone 6 takes amazing pictures having only have 8 MP.
I came from the HTC One (M8) to the Z3 about 2 weeks ago.
Overall, I am pleased with the switch for several reasons:
- battery life of the Z3. Even though the M8 has great battery life, nothing on the market comes close to the Z3 right now. Unbelievable battery autonomy.
- bezels. Both devices are the same size, yet the Z3 has a bigger display. The M8's bezels were too big for my taste.
- build quality. My M8 has a loose volume rocker and the camera was scratched beyond recognition. I had to apply toothpaste to get rid of the scratches and it made my camera very sensitive to light and basically ruined the already awful camera.
Things I miss about the M8:
- the metal finish. Boy that was nice to feel! The Z3 has the metal bezels, but the back of the M8 was just lovely.
- the "grip" of the phone. The rounded back of the M8 made it easy to hold and handle. the Z3, while better than Z1/Z2, is still a bit too squarish to my taste.
Both fantastic devices, can't go wrong with either. The Z3 just has that extra 'oomph'.
EDIT: of course, I also miss the development options of the M8. Once you S-OFF the M8 you're basically free to do whatever you want. on the other hand I don't even have root on the Z3 still, unless I want to unlock the bootloader and actually lose some features.
If Sony chose to use capacitave buttons rather than functionally have a 4.7" display for a lot of apps due to the navigation bar, I might agree. That is a LOT bezel that could be used and tear down supports there was space for it.
I curse Android and their space hogging capacitave button loving ways. At least Samsung gets it (FWIW) and LG at least made an effort to mitigate the nav bar with immersive mode on the G2/G3.
