The All new HTC One (M8) will soon arrive :fingers-crossed:
And you want to talk about it :fingers-crossed:.
But all you could post would be off-topic to HTC One M7 Forum .
So here is the solution: This thread is meant as a catch-all thread for HTC One (M8) related stuff. It is accepted by moderating staff and will be in place until the M8 will get its own forum. Then it will be moved there.
Here is how it will work:
- Only post M8-related stuff here, no comparisons, no off-topic.
- All forum rules of HTC International forums apply
- Post ALL M8 related stuff here. Do not open new threads as they will be closed eventually by moderators.
MOD Edit: Examples of things allowed in this thread:
- Release dates
- Hardware speculation (no comparisons)
- Software speculation (again no comparisons)
- Leaked Pics/Vids
Please stick to these simple things and you will be able to talk about the next big thing without getting your stuff removed or closed.
Cheers guys

Any word on if there will be a Google Play Edition?
Usually how long does a Google Play Edition phone release after the carrier versions?

No answer available yet afaik. But I bet there will be one. And as the One was the first HTC that had a Google Edition, there is no "usually" yet. The "Google Edition" in principle was invented after the One (M7) was released, so I guess this time it won't take long.
Thanks
I'm just curious about two things. Battery life and camera quality. These are the two things that really irked me about my One. SD card looks like it's there but I can manage with 32gb on the phone. I just want a battery that lasts long enough. I see people on here getting 5 hours screen on but only with WIFI and/or having brightness at 0.
As for the camera. I hardly use it since its gone purple and I haven't got a spare phone to send it off. Also the low megapixel count really was an issue when looking at pictures on a PC or TV. Fine for Instagram and Facebook but thats it
Watched viral video of HTC One M8
I found these changes good & bad according to me
GOOD
SD card
Dual rear camera
Big battery
Next level single piece aluminum body
Notification light position & style
Power button placement
BAD
No beats audio (I know mini max was without that & beats gone)
Headphone jack at bottom huh
HTC bezel still there with same size and onscreen button ( developers looks like a fool ) best way make HTC glowing & function as home
Setting no color all white ( this is not 1956 B/W TV )
Some people also expected fingerprint scanner
Back looks more round not good for put on flat surface and use
Some also expected water resistant body

Sure
Google is planning stop nexus by 2015-16 will use GPE instead of nexus so it's obvious that there will be more GPE

Upgrading to the M8?
What I like: 3 gig of ram, SD800 processor, SD card slot. What I really don't like is the onscreen buttons. I use Nova Launcher and have my M7 configured 6 rows by 7 columns. The 7th row is the dock. But with the M8 it may not be possible to get 6 rows because of the space the onscreen navigation buttons take up. I may not be able determine the number of useable rows until I get the M8 in my hands and install Nova launcher. When you are short on space, the icons will partially cover up the text below the icons. Anyone using Nova launcher have any thoughts on this? Here is my present homescreen :

Got to say from the leaked video everybody seen there's really nothing that's going to make me want to upgrade, I mean to be fair it's last year's hardware and same screen, except camera, i feel the design has taken a step back really only thing I liked was the gunmetal colour, yes it will have bigger battery better camera and be a bit quicker +sd , i suppose what's really annoying me is the on screen button's, just doesn't make sense having on screen and still having the part with the htc logo, was really looking forward to it and all, think I'll be giving it a miss
Yeah I don't know why they messed it up with keeping the HUGE bottom bezel with on screen buttons. Will still probably get one

Another "meh, me too" here. Woohoo - green blink feed . You can see from my list below how many HTC's I've had and also bought for the rest of the family too, son, wife, managed to get HTC as the phone of choice at work too but with the ridiculously slow (and possibly broken) recent update, the complete lack of imgination which has gone into the next model (if indeed that is it in the video), returned units for purple tint this year, I'm gonna have a look around the competition this year and throw some money at them for once. Not good enough htc (from last year and what appears in that video), sorry.

I've got an M8.
If anyone needs something from it's ROM you can PM me.
It's S-OFF. If someone tells me how to backup the current recovery i will try and install TWRP and make a nandroid backup.

Is that bottom bezel really like that or is this just the developer (I know it's there wishful asking lol ). Do the onscreen at least dissappear in the browser ?

I personally won't be getting the M8 at any point. It doesn't really feel like an upgrade and I'm still just as happy with the One as when I got it.
We'll get the Sense 6 update on the M7 pretty quickly anyway + I've got no qualms with my current battery life or camera quality. Even expandable storage isn't something which would make me want to upgrade considering I'm finding 32GB to be enough anyway.
As I said right from the beginning (as can be seen in my review found in my sig), this is the first HTC device I've had and I've definitely been impressed so as long as HTC can keep up with this level of build quality and beast of a phone, I'll surely consider getting more HTC's in the future.

Was really hoping the phone that kid had was a prototype, but it's too genuine and finished looking, and also it looked like he had it for a while too, even though people got to see the m8, that kid and that video ruined it and i think that is the general feeling, I know the phone will be better but it shouldn't be seen like that for the first time, the HTC one was and is a great phone and a more mature and grown up experience, people bashed blinkfeed and the camera but most agree now that blinkfeed brings something different, other companies have tried similar but there not the same, and in fairness the camera is good people expect to much, just look at how popular that selfie at the Oscars was with what 2mp, did anyone say that picture was ****?

The onscreen buttons didn't dissappear while i was browsing. Only on the homescreen, the black bar with the buttons is transparent (see image below).
When the device is locked the three buttons are replaced with an arrow and you can swipe up for google now.
Also, the padlock supports swipe up to unlock, swipe right for blinkfeed and swipe left (for me it does the same as swipe up).

The main thing which got people liking BlinkFeed more was the ability to remove it natively.
Pre-Sense 5.5 I didn't like BlinkFeed and moved it to a different screen until a dev was able to remove it. Within a few days of the update and therefore being able to remove it without flashing anything, I really started to like it and use it much more often.
I understand that HTC wanted to force it upon people so that they'd like it BUT they'd have had more success if they had that feature from launch.

Hate to hear that about the browser. So they made the screen a tad bigger but will actually have less real estate to browse with in actuality. I wish they would have left that part alone. Also the pic can't open?

I think i'd probably swap my Nexus One for one of THESE!
P
I might want to, but probably only for the Sense UI. Which is going to end up in a firmware. Which then I will revert back to the stock or a CM...
Damn buying a product and then literally a day later (for me) a more interesting version coming out...
Beautiful Phone! But what is the difference other than the optical stick and Sense to slow it down?
Eh, I don't see anything special.
Sense UI - Personally, I'm not a fan. All Sense UI means is having to wait MUCH longer for Android updates; MONTHS longer such as past phones have had to wait. If you want Sense, someone will copy it to the N1 within a few days anyway. Why is Sense UI stock a plus? More like a downside really.
N1 looks better than the Desire imo. N1 has style. Desire is a rectangular brick.
No DivX/Xvid support? Bleh. That was also something I was hoping would happen (so that we could get it hacked onto the N1 .
The only positive I see is the hard buttons, since soft buttons on the N1 are kind of wonky. The optical trackpad is also > trackball, but then you miss out on the glowing notifications (which will eventually be hacked to be all sorts of awesome). 64 MB more ram is nice too.
Not impressed.
hmmm didn't know it had more RAM (576MB)
Hope the FM radio code can be run on the N1
Pretty phones as usual! Can't wait for the HTC Sense UI to be ripped!
The Bravo also has HD video recording.
Anyone know if this is a hardware or software feature of the Bravo?
Could this be ported to the Nexus also?

I really hope that it is possible!
Why would they ugly up the bottom and combine two butons on one side but not the other side? There's no symmatry, also, jay leno called he wants his chin back.
I would like to know about the hd video recording too
Cyanogen said he was salivating over this one compared to the N1; I asked him why on Twitter, no response. It's the same phone, except it has Sense and a new button. What's the big deal?

I like the capacity buttons actually, plus I prefer the stock android to the sense interface.
I don't think the HTC Bravo/Desire has the noise cancellation feature.
Correct, the Desire doesn't have the noise cancellation, Sense UI also means months between updates when the Nexus will get theres first since it's Google's phone. Also that horrible chin is back, even though the touch buttons are weird on the Nexus One you get used to them and prefer them more then the hardware. Also the Sense UI slows down your phone and the HD playback is the software not hardware so Nexus will also get that. Trackball color notfication > optical ball.
And most importantly..THE NEXUS ONE IS GOOGLE'S PHONE, not some random phone by HTC which won't be as popular as the Nexus or be supported as long as the Nexus.

Incorrect.
A) Google is not marketing / advertising the Nexus One... AT ALL, because they're afraid to step on manufacturer's toes. So the Nexus One will never ever reach popularity.
B) The Desire will be released in Europe AND Asia, which has a hell of a lot more potential customers than the US.
I wish A) wasn't true, but oh well. Sadly, the Nexus One will stay a "sleeper" hit and never much more than that.
Not quite sure what is so appealing about that. It looks damn hideous to me.
Alright.. my two cents...
1) it'd be great if the momory card was hot-swappable, but it's not. The nexi boots so quick though it honestly doesn't matter to me. Besides its harder for someone to take if you were ever in that situation where your phone was at risk (i.e. a bar or party or something)
2) the capacitive buttons give the nexus one a futuristic look. The hardware buttons make the phone look already less attractive. The capacitive buttons on the nexi are a little sketch at times, but seriously you have to be picky or something to not like them. Find the sweet spots of the buttons (up a little) and you're a happy camper.
3) noise cancellation is amazing on the nexus. I get compliments on how crystal clear my voice is all the time.
4) its butt fuggin ugly.
5) Sense UI sucks. I had it on my HTC Magic and all it did was bloat it up and slow it down.
And come on...the name is lame too! Nothing beats Nexus One. How fugging bad ass does that sound seriously. And we get Google AND HTC support, and its just amazing...
NEXUS ONE FTW!!!!

Agree 100%
Oh and we have a coloured trackball and a secksay design.
WOOT! Please excuse my terrible spelling!
Ok so as many of you now know i an the pround owner of a galaxy nexus, the latest in the pure google software phones. The nexus seems to be gathering a fair bit of interest around the forum so i thought i will do a cmoparison of the two.
Now it would be silly to comapre benchmarks in quadrant or lin pack packs as we all kow the Nexus will kill te x10 in these (once benchmarking works properly in android 4.0) i have not even attempted a single benchmark at this point.
Screen and display
So to start with i guess alot of you must wonder how it feels in hand being a large phone with 4.65 inch screen, the answer is actually it feels very comfortable and having quite large hands i find it sits in my hand easier than hte x10. Some of you will know the Nexus has a curved screen, this worried me a little but if im honest you can barely tell its curved when your using it. While we are talking about screens not all of you will know that the Nexus is the first device to received a supre amoled HD screen, resoltution of 1280 x 720 (720p basicly) and the display is absolutly georgeus, rich and bright colours, very dark blacks. I did find yesterday when i was first using the phone whites had a kind of mild tint of yellow to them but this seems to be not so bad now, the colour spectrum now looks more normal and natural. Not had any issues so far veiwing in natural daylight outside but it is winter here in Uk and not much light during the day anyway. The screen is of course actual multitouch.
We all know about the x10 buggy dual touch and resolution is 840x450 and its just a normal lcd screen which can be hard at times to see in direct sun and is 4 inches big without 16 million colours. The difference in quality really is amazing, not just because of 16 million colours but the resolution and screen type. They are like chalk and cheese or cheese and chalk which ever you find tastes nicer
Screen scrolling of the Nexus is smoother than silk, i now know what people mean by eye-gasms lol If your interested the gingerbread crt screen screen on / animations are still there plus some that look similar to iphone for turning landscape to portrait or vice versa.
Performance
As previously stated i have not ran any benchmarks yet but the Nexus is a monster when it comes to speed and performance in general, it comes with a 1.2 ghz texus instroments processor. It has actually been under clocked by 300mhz for Nexus, meaning this dc processor is naturalally a 1.5 ghz monster, turned down presumabley to conserve battery. We all know x10 is 1ghz single core snap dragon with current maxium over clock to 1.2 ghz where it gets unstable for most.
Its a little hard to talk about the performace without general benchmarks to give a rough idea but let me tell you there is not a hint of any lag of any kind trying to use pretty much anything. I did find some lag while typing a PM to a good friend here on xda in landscape mode but quite a lot of apps wont have been updated to fully supportive of android 4.0 at this time so any update will sort that. Yesterday i did a full back up of my apps (system and data) and data on the nexus in titanium and it took about 45 seconds to a minute to complete, x10 can take a few minutes some times.
Software
I think everyone here knows the Nexus lauches with android 4.0.1 aka icecream sandwhich. It is very intuitive and easy to use, very easy to navigate and its on a whole other level compared to gingerbread. Espicially with the time taken to make everything look really very beutiful using mainly black, grey and blue with some greens and whites. If anyone is running cyanogenmod 7.1 there is a free icecream sandwhich for theme chooser which gives a a good idea of what to expect.
The launcher nativly supports folders which is very very handy for keeping stuf tidy together and organised. The folders couldnt be simpiler to create, simply drag an icon ontop of another and theres your folder and just keep adding till your heart is content! The launchre reminds me of the arc style one with the bar at the bottom with space for 4 things whch can be changed and folders can be added into these 4 spaces. With hte nexus you get most of the google apps pre installed which is nice, including a new version of google music with built in eq and its beutiful to use. There are also nice sound effects as you go through menus and for certain key presses, not as cheesy as the touchwiz noes or so noicey which annoyed me on touch wiz on sgs2. The software really is the best thing about the nexus
Camera
This is probably what most x10 users including me are concearned about, it has only 5 mp camera. Get the idea out of your head more Mp means better picture. Yes nexus only has 5, but what it does with those 5 is what counts! Pictures are taking almost instantly, google brags over zero shutter lag and i can see why! You can literally get probably about 3 pics in the time it takes to get one off x10! Actual flash is supported, flashes twice for red eye reduction and the led is very very bright, beats x10 photo light by miles. There is a native panorma camera feuture built in to the camera which is nice to use, upto 1080p video recording and 1.3mp front camera. This can be used for face unlock. Yes thats right, face unlock, when hte screen is locked simply point the front cam at your face which it recognises as you and will unlock the phone. I hear your questions about security, yes its not the best in hte world, it will owrk with a photo or if your phone is stolen in your sleep provided its light enough for te caerato see you. Its more of a fun thing at this time!
I will be uploading some sample photos later on for you guys to see. they will be in doors at night in my study where the pc is so excuse any mess in advance!!
Hardware
So i already talked about dual core, and camera but there is a few other things worth mentioning like for example hw buttons, or more to hte point lack of! There is 3 buttons in total on hte outside of the phone, power on (screen controls) and volume up and down rockers. Thats it, dead simple and anymore now i odnt find needed. All the buttons for apps, back and multitask are on screen. I hear another question, wheres menu? To put it simply menu is built in on screen for any apps that use or need it and not shown at all times. The mulittask button is much more functional to just switch between apps in a breeze.
Also worth noting is lack of sd card support. The phone comes in 16gb version or 32 gb (not released yet to my knowledge). The internal storage is lightning fast to brwose through, faster than class 10 sd card so i have read but nothing to back me up on that. I have the 16 gb and its fine for me. This choice may have something to do with googles plans for google music where you will be able to stream music from your library based on pc to your phone anddownload frequently used albums or tracks and eventually buy albums and tracks directly through the android market itsself (already happening in USA).
You will be pleased to hear that the headphones work normally, buy any set with built in mic and they will work without holding in hte mic button for musivc to sound normal, unlike sony you had to hold in hte button if you had decent headphones of your own.
Conclusion
Its the best phone iv ever had, probably one of the best on the market to date and after spending smoe time with it you will not want to use anything else. My x10 has been untouched and unloved for almost 24 hours. I recommend anyof you to get get one. BUT rooting is kind of a pain in hte arse, you have to first unlock bootloader then flash this superboot.img through adb (no recovery as of yet) and it has hard for me to get the drivers needed for fastboot. It took me quite along time to get root and unlocked bootloadre with the help of a dev, had it not been such a pain with the drivers it would of been much much easier and was straight forwards when the drivers were ok. Just so you you know you need working adb on your pc for root and bootloader.
So i hope this is an ok write up with enough detail, its taken mne long enough to type lol If anyone has questions please post and il do my best to answer when i can.

But thanks for the comparison, i was waiting for a honest review from someone who came from an x10 as well. Now it's even harder for me to wait. Dispatch date should be tomorrow though
Two more questions just came to mind:
- since you're from the UK, do you have the volume mute bug?
- Can you perhaps give or link me to the drivers and stuff that I need for rooting?

Wow, I'm super jelly man! I would also really like the Galaxy Nexus! It looks fine! How is the battery life with constant use compared to our x10? Is it worse, better or the same?
I think I won't be able to buy the Galaxy Nexus this year. My x10 is just over a year old, and I just bought a new gaming PC. I will get one next year I hope so!
I'm really excited for the pictures! Thanks for the great comparison!

I'm not too bad, my main down fall is I don't have another camera to film all that on though. The browser is very fast though, lag only happens while typing sometimes on xda otherwise it just flys through everything with ease.
When I can get my hands on my gfs dhd will see if I can come up with a video perhaps.

Thx for the pics, the camera seems to be quite decent in low light/artificial illumination. X10 always gets blurry when I try to take pics like these. And you seem to have the same problem with X10 The shutter is just too slow after the phone focuses.
And thx for the files too! Now I just have to get my Nexus and figure out how to use these files

Yeah low light pictures is one of the things this cam does great. In my next post I will attach 2 pics in my bed room, light off curtain shut pitch black without flash then same room and stuff with flash.
For help with your phone there is plenty about on the internet I just don't feel confident enough to help anyone root and do boot loader.

Sorry for the long post btw, but here is my review of the HTC One for those who are interested
Just going to add my review, I have had the phone since Friday afternoon and it is now Tuesday afternoon.
I am coming from a HTC Sensation which I’ve had since launch so it was being to feel old, battery get rubbish etc... I have had a HTC for the past 5 years, so yes I am a bit of a HTC fan boy, but I’ll try be as honest as possible. (I was quite willing to go to the s4 if they improved things but they didn’t)
Build quality and physical features:
Firstly like everyone has said, the build quality and feel of the phone is amazing! Better than the iPhone. It is light but it isn’t too light
If that makes sense, it heavy enough to make it feel premium. It looks gorgeous feels gorgeous and is gorgeous. I don’t find it slippery in my hand, however when it’s in your pocket because of its height and smooth back I do feel abit uneasy about it slipping out when you’re sitting down.
I think the size is perfect for me, but that’s personal preference. The volume buttons are nice, in the right place, feel good and easy to press. The
The micro usb is on the button , which is a plus for me to put into my android dock, but is much more to the right hand side, would of been nice for it to be more central but I’m being picky.
The power button is flush and smooth, and far to over the left hand device to me making it awkward if you have small hands (luckily I don’t) however I am totally used to it now so it doesn’t bother me anymore.
The button layout I actually love now I am used to it. Android phones only need 2 buttons, and long as you remember the double tap or hold down home shortcuts you will be fine. You get used to it way to quick, so much that I used my sensation the other day and kept pressing the wrong buttons on it.
Battery: (using auto brightness, power save off, WI fi on mostly.)
Ok so I wasn’t expecting much until I started reading the reviews of people saying it’s awesome. It isn’t awesome, it’s ok. Through a work day with light usage I get from 100% to about 80%, which is more than anyone else. Though saying that it seems most of my battery is trying to find mobile signal (I get crap signal for every network at work) so I’m trying to go aeroplane mode as no point searching for signal that isn’t there, I’ll keep you all updated on how this works out.
Then when I get home I whack out the games, do bit browsing, check Facebook, text all night etc… and it does drop quickly. Both nights I have gone from 80% to 0% in about 5/6 hours with heavy usage. Which tbf isn’t bad, but it’s not great.
Point to add, I’m still messing about with settings and apps, and I do find myself just turning my phone on to play with it , so I’m expecting the battery life to improve when I stop being a little kid . I have also drained it fully and fully charged it 4 times.
For example useage today, my brightness is at lowest it will go, wifi off, radio on, its been on for about 6 hours, about 30 mins screen on, and i have been playing music for about 10 minutes on full volume, my battery is at 79%.
Sense 5:
Very very nice, big improvement over 4 I feel. Nice and clean, simple to use and lots of nice little features, as well as some annoying ones.
I like the icons, I love the message app, it allows you to change theme of how the texts set out, so for example texts sent by you show up one colour, by the other person another, and then a different background. It’s just the little things like that that make a difference. Settings are similar to 4 so nothing to go on about there.
Blink feed is handy, but more a gimmick I feel, they need to greatly improve the sources because all I see at the minute is my Facebook newsfeed which annoys me slightly. But it has potential.
I like when you unlock the screen it goes to where you were last. And the lock screen is very nice and simple. It does annoy me how the preview texts come up though, at the bottom but only 2 lines of it, not like sense 4 when you got the bubble in the middle.
The thing that annoys me is with no menu button you can’t quickly change your wallpaper or go into settings etc... You have to drag down the notification bar and go to settings. When in an app and pressing home button, you go back to the app draw and not the home screen, that annoys me, but is useful every 1/10 times you press it! I would have also liked a quick settings bar but I have an app to do that anyway.
These are all little niggle bits which most of you won’t mind about, and can be resolved with rooting/little software tweaks by htc.
Screen:
Nothing more to say than amazing. Best screen I have seen on a smartphone hand down, viewing angles, colours etc... all brilliant. And the right size
Camera:
I haven’t had a massive play with the camera but what I have I have been impressed. There is virtually no shutter lag which is brilliant (big thing coming from sensation) you press the button it takes a picture, and keep pressing it, it keeps taking pictures. The quality in low light is amazing; you can just see on the screen how much light it is picking up.
The video quality is great and that extra microphone does make a difference to sound quality, there is a lack of bass however but it is crystal clear. Can also take pics while videoing which is handy?
The amount of options to edit your photo is ridiculous; I think I will need a year with the phone to work out all of them! Unsure whether this is a good thing or bad, after all if it’s there but not used, what’s the point? But it is nice you have the option.
Boom sound:
This is the one feature that is literally drawing dropping; the sound that comes out of this phone is amazing. Out of the people I’ve shown they have all been amazed and said wow that is so loud and clear for a phone. The need for those little crappy portable speakers is gone, it still can’t replace a good dock but it comes close.
This is also makes a huge difference when playing games and apps etc... the sound quality and loudness makes it just that much more enjoyable!
Although please note, you will never miss an alarm again! They do need to lower the volume a bit to compensate for the loudness, as stupid as that sounds.
Other:
The processor is amazing and lag free. However it does heat up, not as much as my sensation does when put under heavy load, but it’s noticeable. Plus side is it will make a lovely hand warmer in those cold months, downside I’m guessing the heat with affect battery life.
HTC ONE Vs. Sony Xperia Z
Luckily my brother decided to buy the sony xz the day before I got my one, and I got the chance to compare the phones (sorry no pics or videos didn’t have the time)
I have to say the htc one was better, in my opinion in most ways, it felt better, looked better, nicer screen, better viewing angles, better camera (only tested at a restaurant in low light though).
The only thing I prefer about the sony was the fact the power button was on the side, which made it very easy to press.
Closing thoughts:
The HTC One is no doubt the best phone on the market at the minute in my opinion. It has pretty much everything you want from a phone. It can be improved, of course it can, but HTC are onto a winner here. Everybody who has seen/heard it has said wow that is a nice phone, how much is that etc… Obviously we can’t compare it fully to the s4 yet, which will be its biggest rival, but I think the 2 phones will have different audiences. The question is, will this phone withstand the test of time with key lime pie looking to be released and maybe a nexus 5, we will see!
Please leave your opinions/comments, but note this is my personal view but I welcome a healthy debate on the subject! I hope this helps those who are looking at buying this phone.
UPDATE 21/3
Ok some now ive had the phone nearly a week i have some things to add.
Firstly anybody worrying about the notification LED, dont , it is bar far brightest i have had on any phone (including htc sensation and desire) it might be smaller but it is noticeable, when charging it obviously isnt on full brightness, but when you get a notification its easily see able.
2ndly the battery: I was having play and found i was get some wakelock issues from google maps and fb. I turned off google now and have seen a massive improvement in battery life.
Currently today im on 65% , phone has been on for 13 hours, about hour of screen on time. about 30 mins of playing real racing, tiny bit of checking wi fi etc.. Before i would on about 30% . Therefore my opinion has greatly improved over the battery. Can last me 2 days if i really want it too.
On a side note, i am getting my phone exchanged at end of march due to gap (see the thread on gap issue if you want more info) but i am truely happy with this phone now the battery has improved, and im getting used to doing things slightly different way.
Re: My HTC One review
Nice review. Thx
Ur review about the battery is more reliable to me than those who States 6hours sceen on. 6hours for me is only possible if u just leave the phone on desk with screen on untouched lol.
One question. Can you make a call to someone using speaker and see if the other side Can hear u well?
Also any scratches yet? Is it ez to get scratched?
Thanks

Yer i am questioning some of the people who are saying battery is so good, i have always been light on my battery and it is not lasting
as long as my htc sensation. Im trying different things with it atm to see if i can make it last longer, but i mean it still lasts a full day, just about though.
I have been on the phone to a few people and they say the speaker phone is good, not amazing or the best they have heard, but good.
While not on speaker phone people have said its really clear and very little background noise.
No scratches at all yet, ive had no case on it or anything but not a thing, its looks as good as it did on the first day.
The back doesn't smudge at all, and the screen just wipes clear on your shirt.
I hope you have some sunshine to try the screen under direct sunlight
How do you feel the weight of the phone in hand compared to Sensation?
GPS lock is faster too?

We had some the other morning , not alot mind you and i didnt have any problems with viewing the screen, only half brightness, but it wasnt particularly sunny!
GPS lock is much faster than sensation, used to take about 30 seconds on sensation, takes about 5/10 on the one.
Weight wise its feels lighter than the sensation, i have to say as silly as it sounds i think htc have got the weight spot on.
Light enough to hold in and watch film etc.. not too light to feel cheap.
Fair review, nice to read a 'real users' thoughts on the battery, I can only see good things coming for this handset.
I honestly think it'll do the the SGS4 what the SGS3 did to the HTC One X, steal all of it's limelight!

I don't know if this is a subliminal message towards my post but whatever. At the end of today it will be two days with the phone. I am noticing that battery life is decent. Not as great as I was hoping it to be, however yesterday I did use the phone really heavily as I had a day off. Unplugged at 100% battery 11am and it was at like 3% come 9pm. That's pretty good but I was hoping it would last at least another hour or two hours. I did have to put it on power saver mode at 20% so that's a thing to note. As I get used to the phone and it goes through a couple of charges I think I will really be able to tell properly but for now, that is all.

Thanks for the review. It's always better to hear from the end user instead of web reviews alone. Gives a more balanced opinion. One quest if possible. Any chance you could record loud music maybe from hi Fi or music channel or club to see how sensitive the mic is. You don't have to upload to YouTube. Or if anyone else could test. My One X and Sensation were really poor even though HTC boasted about stereo mic
Once again thanks.

Ive recorded sound coming from my bose sound system and it is very good. Better than any smartphone i have heard, it does restrict the bass abit , but you get clear audio so the sacrifice is worth it.

The predictive text input is fecking horrendous........only thing I found wrong with the phone....
I think the back and home button issue is down to the small footprint of the actual buttons, i reckon people expect to just be able to hit around the area of the button for it to work when in fact it needs to be more precise.
Good or bad?......up to the user, i think good.

So you're returning it for the gap issue?
This worries me. When I had a Desire HD, the speaker blew. I had to give my phone to Telus so they could send it to HTC to have it repaired. They sent it back and it wasn't fixed at all, so back it went. I had to use an HTC Hero for a month.
When I had my iPhone, I just walked into the apple store and they gave me a new one.
I'm worried I am waiting all this time and I'll get a gapped phone, or what have you.

I cant comment on the keyboard as i just installed swift key as i used it on my own phone and cant go wrong with it.
Yup getting it exchanged, but tbf most people seem to have a gap, so im hoping just because its the first batch, and things will improve.
But yer im not worried about the gap now, but to me it what can happen in 6 months time, with use etc.. it will probably expand and
cause problems, so best to get it sorted now.
I did send a pic to htc and they told me to get it exchanged.
all i have been reading is how great the phone is . even i love the HTC One but im sure that the phone has some negative aspects as well. i request the users of the HTC One to please point out the negative aspects of the phone if any ...
The lockscreen button since the phone it's so long you have to re arrange your hand sometimes . That's about it for me
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Who wants to hear about the negatives? If you like the phone then get it. If you dont like the phone then dont get it. Each phone will have different negatives per user. The guy above me dosent like the lockscreen button... but I may love it. Each negative (aside from visual/hardware defects) are going to be subjective.
My negative: no option for wireless charging.
Probably best nipping over to the Samsung forums for a better researched and comprehensive list to be honest. There's a few of them in here which I think is testament to our friendliness, we welcome anybody, even though they are less fortunate than ourselves .
Honest answer? Coupla minor niggles with gaps and bit of annoyance with the sensitivity of the back & home buttons for some but the awesomeness of the phone and recent 1.29 update seem to have cured these. Get one and enjoy it... jeez, I ought to be on commission!
It's screen is too bright until you flash a auto brightness mod for low light. The mic is almost to sensitive for video recording betting that is why we are seeing some problems with hiss in calls and videos. HTC in their infinte wisdom decided we only needed two buttons LIKE WTF!!! We can fix soon as it has been confirmed that the HTC logo will act as whatever we tell it to The camera isn't perfect yet which I will bet will take quite a few months of software updates (not saying it's bad just expect it to get much better) It will run hot no way around this but a case as aluminum is a excellent heat conductor. Battery life isn't like the end all be all it does not last 5 days or even 20 hours with the screen on

Most posts here will be biased as you are asking for a one sided story here. Im not sure if you have one but if you are going to get one make sure you weigh the pluses too. Like I've just released a ROM and I'm Taylor Swift. So there's two pluses there

No need to apologize . .. I wanted to buy the One for my Brother so just wanted to know more about the phone ... Just wanted to know about the various issues people have been talking about ie. the gaps , crackling sound in the speakers , heat issues etc... I really hope that the HTC One sells really well .... Its one of the best Phones ever made... Period.
I find that the back and home buttons are not sensitive enough.
One that sticks out for me and it's really more with Sense 5 than the phone is on the lock screen the play/pause button is too big. Often when I want to go to the next track I'll hit that by accident instead. That and the phone heating up a bit sometimes are so far my two minor gripes.
I am coming from an SGSII running the latest AOKP. Here are a few of the annoyances I've noticed.
- Slow charging compared to most phones
- The large size makes hitting the lock button somewhat awkward at times. I much preferred the right side lock, left side volume of the SGSII.
- Vibrates too hard. I know this might sound like a strange criticism but its annoying when you're in class and your phone sounds like it's about to rattle off of the desk. Hoping there will be a mod in the near future to reduce intensity.
- The charging light, when green, is actually pretty ****ing annoying to look at. It's behind the speaker on top and is a small LED. It's very very bright when you look at it directly and annoying when you're trying to use your phone and charge it at the same time.
There are many minor things with Sense UI compared to AOKP, but that isn't really a fair criticism when I knew what I was getting into. There are very few bugs though, and it's nice coming from a ROM where there were always a few lurking issues that couldn't be fixed without source. Still very happy with the phone though.
Vibrates too hard? Then it's perfect for me. I've lost count on how many calls I've missed when I couldn't feel Xperia S vibrating in my pocket.

Give it some time.... after the initial scramble to get the first Ones by the fanboys, the general masses will come out in larger numbers to buy the phone, and they won't be so loving and biased.
So.. In a couple of months, we will see how great or not great this phone is as more unbiased temperaments make their opinions known.
Just want to share with anybody thinking on making the swap. I was getting tired of the 'lack' of development on the AT&T Note 3 due to the locked bootloader, so I decide to give the M8 a 14 days ride (AT&T time to return a device). After 14 days, I had to return the device and have to say that the Note 3 still much better than the M8 and developing is not enough to make you ditch the Note 3 for the M8.
Things I could not tolerate on the M8 :
* On screen buttons, with the on screen buttons the display basically becomes a 4.7' display, and that empty space where the htc logo is was just driving me crazy. I tried using different apps and mods to hide the buttons or reduce the size but still it was not natural.
* The camera... wow it does sucks, you have to tinker too much with the settings and exposure/focus to get a decent picture every time, and don't even dare to watch you photos in a big computer screen, you will be more disappointed.
*The notification led is to small that it defeats its purpose.
*The aluminum body scratches way to easy.
I thought about it. Thanks for this post.
odd
you should have tried GPE (Google Playstore Edition) M8.
I mean. At least HTC has that option. Unlike GN3.

First of all, you're listing opinions as a reason why not to get the M8. You didn't NEED to return your device, you WANTED to. BECAUSE YOU don't think the increased development is worth it [to you]. On-screen buttons: all preference like you stated. Not everybody has an issue with that and it certainly isn't a reason to tell someone not to get the phone. The camera is great in certain conditions, just like the Note 3. Neither of them are top-shelf to make one better than the other. Both have their ups and downs and balance themselves almost equally. Notification LED is another opinion. Aluminum body is another opinion.
All-in-all, BOTH phones are great and have their ups and downs. It comes down to preference. For me, the on-screen buttons is the main reason I haven't even tried it out. That waste-of-space HTC logo is simply obnoxious and unnecessary. I don't think it was a smart idea building the phone that way.
Camera... in low-light conditions and other scenarios you can produce/capture amazing pictures. Same goes for the Note 3. It's all about the conditions and what hardware/software you have in place for those conditions. Calling one better than the other would be silly. We can get into why Apple is better than Microsoft if you want to go that route (I hate them both, personally).
Anyway, you can't tell people what they're going to like and dislike. Well, you can, but you're going to get messages like this. To build a legitimate statement, comparison, etc... you'd have to do a lot more research than you're going to be willing to do.
Maybe keep this in mind: You're not going to like something just because I like it. I'm not going to dislike something just because you dislike it.
If anything, I think you should've at least compared the two.
