[Q] Non stop hissing noise, get a replacement? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had my D800 since november 2013, a few days ago, I started hearing hissing or high pitched noise kinda like the sound of a leaking capacitor coming from the camera, LED light and rear microphone area . From what I know of, some people experienced this and the noise only occurs either with headphones or whenever theres a call taking place, BUT this sound I'm experiecing is non stop, even with the phone screen off and just sitting idle.
Idk if this also has to do with my battery life being, I'd say not the best in the past 2 weeks, been getting 12-18 hour days with 2 1/2h to 3 hours SOT sometimes my battery would be at 15% by the time 12 hours has passed, and this is with auto sync off etc.and light to moderate usage.
Should I get a replacement?

I wrote a thread about this. It's well known on the N4, once heard cannot be unheard.
I doubt you would be able to proove it as not everyone hears it. To some extent it's present in all devices... from LG.
So even an exchange may not help. Even though that's what was commonly done in the N4.
But might get better?

well i`ll start my answer with battery cuz i`m always wondering about battery xD u using stock ye? in some review i`v heard that guy was talking about a software related battery usage, he said that when used device heavy, battery consumption was low funny yeh? xD and he said that after this sometimes battery started drain, so it maybe a software issue... since i`m using a G Pro 2 port i have increased battery as i see (about 4 or 5 sot with moderate usage, sometime it goes to 6 and even 7hr sot.
about hissing sound: if u using stock KK from LG than it`s a normal, i have bluetooth headset and i never had problem but some guy said that hissing on weird headset is normal on KK, idk on JB
but if u want replacement and if its free then u losing nothing it`s my opinions just by the way
Hope i helped a little bit

Hmm well, I am using the stock AT&T KK, didnt know it was very common with the N4, it has to be something with hardware but i wouldnt know, and hoping it'll get better upon next device that comes in, i could get lucky

Yeah mate im using the stock AT&T KitKat ROM, and yeah i heard that noise persists on headset however i dont have any headset or bluetooth on at all, im thinking the noise is somewhat hardware related but like the guy above said that its common on basically all LG devices, however I'll just take the hit and get a replacement nothing to really lose IMO, I have 10 days to keep the other device and see if that same problem occurs on the replacement

HTC Incredible feels like [W]ildfire

Is anybody else's phone getting really hot? If I have my shell case on the back them I dont notice it, but if I'm using the phone without the case then I cM tell its getting really hot on both sides.
Is this a standard issue? I had heard of the N1 getting hot.

I had the same issue when using Live wallpapers. I disabled almost every feature of the phone to maximize battery life including live wallpaper. the phone runs fine now its cold to the touch.
Sometimes the phone will get hot when using GPS or when you are downloading something for awhile or using an App thats a little more intense then normal. If yours is getting hot and staying hot with normal phone use when its just idling, I would take it back.
The most likely cause of this would be if you regularly are in low signal areas, the radio needs more power to boost signal to reach the tower, thus uses battery more quickly, and also generates much more heat than it would in high signal areas. Since the phone cant be overclocked yet, that is really the only reason I can think of that you would have a drastically higher temperature than normal. Coming from an OCd wifi tether droid, I havent found an occasion where the incredible feels anything other than pleasantly cool to the touch, but I guess other peoples experiences may vary. If its the amount of heat you might get from holding it in your hands for a while, I wouldnt worry about it too much. If its hot enough for long periods of time that youre really concerned about, might have a bad radio on your phone, good luck getting an exchange atm >.>
Thanks for all the input.
Im not in an area with low signal. I'm in Little Rock, AR - our arena across the river downtown named "Verizon Arena" for crying loud. Lol. ... It gets hot when I talk on it though, and its not just body heat from my hand. Both the back & front heat up, and sometimes when its charging it gets hot. It doesn't take long, and as a matter of fact its getting warmer as I type this from my phone.
It may be something up with the radio, as was suggested. Yesterday I was trying to call out & when the person on the other line answered they couldn't hear me but could hear them. I called a couple of different people a couple of different times just to test it out & it was messed up every time. I powered the phone off, cut it back on, and it works fine now. Could these be related issues or what? When that was happening I also heard this very high pitched noise coming out of where my ear goes. It has gone away as well, but I'm trying to provide as much detail as possible in case others can help or suggest issues. I really don't want to have to take the phone back - especially since they're fresh out of stock.
Interesting you mentioned the high pitched noise while on phone calls...
I had the exact same problem, whenever I tried to make or recieve calls was getting a high pitched noise from the speaker, i could hear the other party, but they could not hear me. turning phone off and back on fixed the issue. Ive also noticed the #1 app in my battery usage is Cell Standby at 43%. So my radio is using almost half my battery. I live and work around Washington D.C. area so coverage and signal loss should not be an issue. But "Time without a signal is 26%" I'm thinking theres an issue with the radio on the Incredible also... wish there were more confirmed reports.

NewB question here, but I've seen several mentions of how much battery power an app is taking up. How do you find that out...?
Im using a widget called battery left, I click that to bring up the usage since last unplugged. The longer way is under settings -> about -> battery -> battery use.
I just downloaded & installed the LauncherPro app. I'm running it now & this is the point where my phone is getting really hot. I don't know if the launchers the reason why or not. A) Could running another launcher like LauncherPro be the reason? B) Should I uninstall & just use Sense UI?

Could be, try finding out if your cpu is running near max a lot, seePU is a good app to get cpu load at a glance. If its constantly near max load with the launcher running its likely the cause.
I don't know how to find CPU temp., but to find battery temp., go to Phone and type in *#*#4636#*#*
Go to Battery information and it's listed in *C.
Maybe that will help....somehow.
[W]ildfire
Hey my phone is doing the same thing so far it reads display is 75% ande everything else is under 10%. my battery temp on set cpu it says its 119 degrees that is the highest i have seen it usually gets between 105 and 110. Id really if someone could tell me what the problem is .
I had this problem before on different roms. There is quite a few variables such the rom, radio, and kernel which could cause your battery to be hot. You may wanna try a different rom to see if you having the same issue.

yeah i agree that it is apps tearing your battery up... see whats running and straighten it all out.

The truth about the common overheating problem and/or battery drain.

Many people have had this issue and i am going to put down the facts here.
The GMS radio in the x10 is not.. great.
It suffers in low signal area's lets say 1 to 2 bars of signal or lets say about -80 to -108dB and lower.
It requires alot more juice from the battery and that causes overheating then after a time chipset death.
This is all based on tests done at home.. i contacted my provider and had a petition signed, they fixed the tower and the issue's with my phone's heat are gone!
Now that i have full signal strength the device has no heat or battery issue's at home.
The other problem you can face is only if you flash firmware with a baseband or a separate baseband.
Many times the baseband may not settle correctly.. this will lead to severe heat, restarts, laggs or even chipset death.
Sometimes the baseband will not even be compatible.
#edit
the third problem that i am adding here and almost forgot about...
Charging while under any or even both of these conditions... can be catastrophic.
As sometimes the modem uses so much energy while the INTERNET is in usage that it cannot hold the charge.
There by cuasing major heat.. and you can guess where that will end up.
Switching to 2G instead of 3G can help ALOT, but in some cases this will end badly
As you will get very slow speeds and that causes downloads to be pathetic slow
and even more prone to bad downloads due to the bad signal quality.
The other case may be that you have the dreaded chipset of DEATH if you get above 45*C it's a good chance you have this horrid chipset.
Have it replaced by SE.
#edit END

You may very well be right on the issue of the GSM radio but..... Some earlier X10's were a lot more susceptible to this issue. My first X10 burned out in about 3 months and ran warm all the time, but in standby the replacement rarely gets warm unless I'm in a fringe area that only has edge coverage.
Anyway you don't know what a hot phone is until you've used the HTC Dream. At times you can almost cook eggs on it

So true, but i have been seeing more and more reports of this issue.
And would like to simply give a solid answer to this.
This was not meant as a complaint, but more as a answer so as to end the scourge of that question once and for all.
A overheat that ends in a damaged device = a serious issue.
No worries here
I bought my x10 in march 2010, about a week or 2 after it become available in my country. And I must say that I never had any problems with it, except what all experienced with 1.6 version (slow, laggy, few small bugs).
Overheating was not an issue, even when I upgraded to 2.1 and recently to TripNMiUI (awesome rom btw). Only time I had problems was when I searched for the right rom flashed the wrong file and almost messed up my device.
The battery was above 40°C and went to 10% in like 3 hours Now about that GMS thing... at work I have almost all the time 2 bars of signal (see attachment, was at work from 5am to 2pm) the red bar is 1, orange 2, yellow 3....
and blue lines you see is when its scanning. Sometimes I lose signal for maybe 1 or 2 hours (and that sux) But I cant show you phone temp (dont know how), but it is almost never above 30°C , except when I play games and I do quite a lot
So after more than a year I still have original battery and lasts for 3 days tops, but usually its around day and a half. And I love my X10

It depends.. the heat is mostly created from using the GSM radio in these conditions. such as online usage.
Games are not the problem unless they make constant heavy use of the internet.
Also what was the ambient temperature when you are testing?
Well I do play cestos, and was playing pocket legends, both require constant internet connection. But the temperature still didn't go above 35 (was quite warm). You mean rom testing? I mostly try out the nearly finished roms, so never had any issues with rom functionality or temperature. Except when I tried z's alpha kernel. Then it was around 33-38°C. Now that I think about it when I'm flashing new rom it always goes above 30, but after some time drops down.

Yeah thats the BB settling in nicely.. sometimes a few restarts or even the "white led of WTF crash" seems to sort it out.
averagely my phone will idle at 30 to 35*C but in usage it can climb above 40*c often.
My old motherboard reached a record High of 57*C just playing "robo defence" or even Hawx...
But here's one more test for you.
Once you need to charge plug it in and start using the internet for about 20 mins in a low signal area and watch that battery drain and the heat go thru the roof.
I never had this issue and i only get 1 to 2 bars only and it never went above 34 which is cool. Dunno about u guys but the only way i can overheat the phone is when playing heavy gunner and listening to music at the same time and the battery heat reaches 38 and it still works 100% with no trouble.

These days on WB's rom.. i can play quake 2 death match online "with stencil shadows enabled" while listening to dimmu borgir" with no issue's..
but if i was on stock 2.1 or even the old motherboard.. forget about it.

When I was using the internet, my battery temp shot up and the phone would restart at 41-42 degrees (stock 1.6)

But it still has a effect on the phone.
But how many of us still flash roms or basebands?
Some versions of the board are way more unstable.. to be honest you have the most stable x10 i have seen out of the 13 i have seen here around me.
Also.. did you do the charging stress test?
It's more than just a single simple issue such as heat, it effects the battery life. "when the radio has to boost the signal"
And to be honest out of all of my phone this is the only one that loves to often drop my calls in bad conditions.
noob question coming: how do u do charging stress test? is this something like you test how long the battery lasts?

I posted it earlier.. lol. no problem.
Just go to a area with bad signal "low as in 1 to 2 bars", wait till the battery is getting low.
Start charging it and then use the "market or anything that constantly uses the radio and cpu" constantly for about 20mins while charging.
Watch the heat go up and the battery go down.
Also please note that if the ambient heat is very low then your phone should be reading much lower..
Not all of us get snow on this planet, some of us get heat stroke in the winter.
will try at work tomorrow, since i always get bad signal there.

Sony Xperia Z2 Review [Goods and Bads, Antutu Benchmark Score, Photo Samples]

Im using the device since Tuesday and here are my findings about the device.
Lets start with the Goodies,
Once you hold the phone you know you have got a piece of unique quality phone. It is designed really nice. If I would trust myself I would never use a case for this device.
Battery life is amazing. Nobody can complain about the battery life of this phone unless they have a faulty battery. First day charged it for 4 hours and lasted me 1 day 16 hours. I totally drained my battery and fully charged it and lasted me 1 day 17 hours. (5 hours of screen time on both charges). I would give 10/10 on battery life thats for sure.
Camera is awesome. There are no words to describe to camera quality. I was really worried about the camera quality after seeing some silly pictures taken with the device. So many options to choose on camera. You definitely don't need a third party camera app for this phone.
Recorded some videos at 1080p quality. I can only say "wow". I was mirroring it on my 3D HDTV, everything is so clear. When you upload it to Youtube you dont get as good as quality you have in your phone. Do not judge the video quality of the camera at youtube or any other video uploading websites. They always trim your video and reduce the quality of the videos.
Full Album of photos taken at Botanic garden
Defocus background Mode Photo Samples
Manual Mode Photo Samples
4K Video Quality Sample
Screen, it is really nice and clear. I was also worried about the screen as someone said screen is really dim. That guy must be blind. On highest brightness you cannot even look at the screen cos its shining on your eyes . When it is sunny outside if the screen brightness is not at full you can hardly see the screen but if it is full its fine for me at least.
Sound quality is pretty good on both ways either on speakers or headphones. It can actually be too loud if you are watching good quality movie or listening good quality songs.
Antutu Benchmark Score and Comparisons
And the baddies.
Notification sound and vibration are so low. You can hardly hear your notifications. I have changed my whatsapp notification vibrate to long one still sometimes cant feel it. Hope they will fix it with an update.
Double touch to wake feature is not responsive. I was like tapping 10 times to wake the phone up where I supposed to tap twice. I just dont use it any more. Also I believe it drains the battery.
4K Video recording is out of sync. I believe that cos the screen has to be 4K to get the sync at the right time. It is quite pointless to record videos at 4K unless you have 4K TV.
Fingerprints on back glass I mean it gets dirty so easily I even tried that by washing my hands and after playing a wee while it leaves the fingerprints on the glass is annoying me. I have got a case that problem is sorted but still something could be done for it.
Charging battery is seems so slow to me, takes over 4 hours to fully charge. Not too sure if I have got a faulty charger or everyone is the time as me but it should be quicker in my opinion.
There is no restart button on power menu all the other phones have it. I have no idea why they never put restart button on the power menu.
So far I can say those things about the phone but I will update it when I find out new stuff.
Have you yet encountered the overheating issue on your Z2, also how is call quality on your device?

When I recorded 4K video it was getting warm I did record quite small length of video though 38 seconds.
I think everybody has got that issue it warms up or overheat while recording 4K videos.
I did record 6 mins of 1080p video it was totally fine.
Call quality is really good even with headphones.

Yeah I forgot to add the battery life at goodies.
Battery life is amazing 1 day 17 hours it lasted me on second charge. On first charge was almost the same.
Judging from your response on the charging time, I believe the charger provided by Sony has a low current. Since Z2 has quick charge 2.0, get a stronger charging adapter to get a faster charging time.

The charger came with my device is this one as @Jackos said 1.5

I have yet to receive my Z2 so I am not entirely sure as to where you can get the charger unfortunately.
I believe quick charge 2.0 mean it supports up to more than (>) 4Amp current compare to the ones provided by sony which is 1.5A. This explains how Oppo Find 7 charge its latest flagship with 70% in just 30 minutes since it is provided with 4.5A charger.
.. I could be wrong though.

I've used double tap to wake a lot, it has never failed once so far. Maybe you accidentally putt glove mode on?
My battery lasted over 22 hours, with 38% left (5 hours 33 mins screen time). Battery charged from 38% to 90% in about an hour, used Sony charger (microsd).
I agree about the ring tone and notification volumes being too soft.

I have checked the glove mode which is off.
I have turned my double touch to wake function on again so far so good.
Can you tell me what model is your battery charger? is it same as mine? (you can see it above) My battery was charged 54 percent in one and half hour and my phone was off.

My charger looks smaller then yours, I couldn't take a clear picture of it ATM.
Charger EP880 1269-4154.1
TYPE AC-0401-AU
INPUT: 100-240V~ 300mA 50-60Hz
OUTPUT: 5.0 VDC=== 1500mA
PSM08AU-050S
S/N xxxxxxxxx
Made in China by Phihong
This difference seems to be the input, mine is 300mA while your's is 250mA and made in different places.
I would just like to add I have the same issue with the tap to wake functionality. Its intermittent at best.
I have noticed it happens when the phone has been idle for some time. It will take around 4 taps to wake the screen. Once you do it once, it will pretty much do it perfect every time repeatedly. That's as far as my trouble shooting has established so far.
It is definitely an issue though and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.
Where did you get your Z2 from? Wasn't O2 by any chance?

I just woke up about 1 1/2 hours ago and the phone double tap on first try for me, have all the power saving options turned on. I am not saying it's not an issue, it's just not an issue for me because it has worked for me 100% of the times I've tried it. Not sure if I'm just lucky or if I'm some kind of double tap master.

its fine after the initial attempt from a long idle period though. Who's using the official flip case? I am. I'm wondering if the felt against the surface could be causing some kind of weird problem. Clutching at straws but trying to find some common/uncommon ground.

What i have noticed so far with the G4

I`ve had the phone for 3 days now and before upgradin from the Iphone 6 ( my first and last iphone) i was really anxious about the many issues listed in the forums especially the touchscreen problem. When i initially got it i started testing everything and I`m glad to say that everything worked fine (sooo relieved) but when i charged it for the first time it charged very slowly, about 3 hours for a full charge, and it got really hot when using lightly the 3rd day a did a factory reset and immediately noticed the the battery charged way faster about 1% per minute ( i dont know how it compares to you other guys) and the phone didnt get nearly as hot. From all this i belive that LG did e very good job hardware wise but i think like many other conapnies fell a little short on the software department and hopefully it will be fixed in the updates to come.

Mine will start getting hot and eating battery once in a while, but a reboot always fixes that. 1% charge per minute is about what I see on the stock LG charger.

Glad to know its not only me. Have you used a QC with the phone? I ordered a Tronsmart 2.0 QC off ebay hopefully it will work faster without any issues.
I bought the Tronsmart QC 2.0 and its awesome. I go from 48% to close to 100% in the 45min car ride home. I do not notice any heat that is worrying. It does get warm when charging but normal.
My G4 was raging out of the box. Super hot. Brightness was being throttled back between 100, 90, and 80 pretty frequently and it went from 60% to dead in like 15minutes. After I wiped and setup as new, it has been running as one would expect.

Glad to hear that ☺. I actually purchased the wall charger but i guess the performance will be similiar. The one thing i noticed today was the battery life, it seems it is not that great during very light usage but that may be due to the fact that these couple of days the reception has been awful because the carrier im using (Vodafone) is switching to 4G for the first time in my country and ,a little out of topic i know, the download speeds have shocked me, my home connection max download speed is about 400-500kbps and today i witnessed 15-20mbps.
Battery does drain faster in low signal areas. I found that a slow charge at night yeilds longer charges throughout the day. I use fast charge in the car so I can use GPS and still get a charge. But at home and office I use Qi Wireless Charging. I use fast charging at home but only when I am doing heavy useage. I slow charge while I sleep.

It could be the phone is performing media scanning which keeps the phone awake. This should be completed in a day or two.
If you still experience battery drain after couple of days. I'd suggest performing a full format of the micro SD card on a computer. Incase there are bad sectors on the SD card that the phone is stuck on try to read them.

The funny thing is that the the two buying factors for me were the removable back and the micro SD slot, and the only issue I have may or may not be with the micro SD and a slightly loose hinge on the left side of the battery cover but I have experienced that with every phone I had including the g2 and the iPhone 6 without a removable back that had this issue.
Hey,
This is my first LG phone. I'm a bit disappointed, but the camera makes up for everything (mostly).
First of all, the device I'm using right now is the third one within a week. I got it from Vodafone, and the first two had the same issue. When the screen was on, and showing bright things, the front speaker would give out a high pitched whistle sound. You could only hear it initially if you held it to your ear. However in recorded videos it was clear and loud enough to be very very annoying. This third unit is ok it seems, but my advice to everyone is to try the G4 before leaving the shop. It might just be a bad batch that was made for Vodafone, a similar thing happened to me with my HTC One X, that had screen issues, and there too I had to go through several devices.
I did notice lag, Nova Launcher helps, but I'm really looking to root the thing and putting CM or some AOSP rom on it. My S5 seems way snappier with BlissPop on it. The only problem with that is I loose the camera app, the thing I bought it for in the first place.
The battery is ok, but I expect more. I haven't had heat issues. The GPS draines the battery though really bad. If you don't use a charger whilst navigating, you'll go flat within an hour, which is not stellar at all. If you use a normal 2.1A charger, you can keep it on level, or might even add a few %.
The camera is awesome, and the leather back too. Cool that at Vodafone you get the leather and a plastic back in the box.

Thankfully I didn't have any hardware issues, I have the Hong Kong version because there's where most of retailers get the phones in my country, I think there's a lot room for improvement software wise and I'm hoping coming updates especially android M, will refine this device even more. I really hoped my I would get the plastic back cover in the box and I'm really jealous of those who did ??
Im starting to notice two more things with the G4, the battery cover (leather) is making a creacking noise when i press it on some areas, and the other one is the with the vibration motor that makes a little bit of noise compared to other phones ive had, has any of you guys experienced this?

Still worth in 2017?

I'm entertaining the thought of getting a Nexus 6P this 2017. I understand updates will still be that quick and supported by 2018 but I have some questions:
1. Is it true the 6P has some water-resistant powers that it's considered safe to use during light rain or a spill of water or soda?
2. I heard that a "bug" causes the phone to crash or turn off unexpectedly when the battery dips below 10%?
3. Is it also true the wifi and bluetooth can sometimes be erratic?
Need your comments please. Cheers.
I have the 6P Since 20th July..
And non of these issues had with me.

I bought the Nexus6P back in December because it was a great open box deal, and I couldn't be happier.
I've never encountered any of the issues you mentioned at all, and I find it to still be super snappy under normal use, plus the battery is great.
I can't comment on the water-resistance because I try not to allow it to get wet at all; that said, I'm sure you can just youtube people stress testing their poor 6p phones.
I will agree with others here though in saying that it is a bit large - I did want to pixel (not the XL) as it's size is much better, but the price was too high.
So, in 2017 what old flagship would you choose in terms of battery life, overall speed & performance and an excellent camera...a Nexus 6P, OnePlus 3T or Galaxy S7?

Nexus 6P, hands down. Mine consistently lasts all day (about 18 hours) with moderate to heavy usage (browsing XDA with Tapatalk, social media, etc), takes amazing pictures, and is very fast/responsive.
I have no experience with the OnePlus 3T, but my mom's Galaxy S7 was awful. It had horrible battery life, ugly software, and performance was very janky. The cameras were pretty good, though.
You can't go wrong with a Nexus phone. The amazing developers here on XDA keep them alive long after Google drops support.
Problem is I'm not into rooting and I only depend on software updates via OTA.
I also heard about the device freezing, radios (such as bluetooth, wifi, etc.) kept playing up and phone dies after only 15% (or below) battery life.

Even if you're not into rooting, you'll still get OTA updates with the latest security patches/bug fixes months before any other phone. The 6P should be supported up until Android 9.0, so you'd be good for another 14 months or so.
If you do decide to take a walk on the wild side and root after Google drops support, Nexus phones are very easy to unlock, root, and customize.
As for the freezing, I've never experienced this while stock. The only time my device has ever frozen/crashed was due to something stupid I did, like changing the file system, or risky kernel settings.
I don't use Bluetooth, so I can't provide any feedback there, but I can vouch for WiFi being very stable.
The shutdown/battery issues are caused by degraded batteries. There's no avoiding it, batteries are rated for a certain number of charge cycles and wear out over time, but there are things you can do to extend the life of your battery:
1. Don't expose your phone to extreme hot/cold temperatures. Using it in the summer or winter is ok, but don't put it in the freezer to run benchmarks or to keep it cool while installing updates. If you must keep it cool, take it out of its case (if you have one) and place it in front of a fan. I always place my phone in front of a fan when installing a new ROM or anything CPU intensive to keep it cool.
2. Don't use fast charging unless absolutely necessary, such as you're heading out for a hot date in 20 minutes but you only have 15% left. If you're charging your phone overnight, there's no need to use the fast charger. I've been using the 1 amp wall adapter from my Galaxy Nexus to charge my 6P overnight and the battery is just as good as day one with no random shutdowns.
3. Don't play games, install updates, or anything that may cause the phone/battery to heat up while the phone is charging. Browsing the web, listening to music, texting, or other light tasks are fine, but playing Asphalt 8, installing the latest OTA, or whatever while charging will cause your battery to heat up and wear it out faster.
4. Charge the phone while off if possible. The reason for this is when powered on and the battery reaches 100% it stops charging (obviously). When the battery drops to 98% it starts charging again. If you charge overnight with the phone on the 2% drop/recharge will happen multiple times, causing unnecessary charge cycles and wearing out the battery.
5. Try to avoid letting the battery go below 15-20%. Discharging the battery too far too often wears it out faster.
6. If you want to get really anal about this, charge the battery when it reaches 20% and unplug it when it reaches 80%. This counts as only half of a charge cycle, thus extending the life of your battery. There's an app on XDA that stops charging at whatever limit you decide, but I believe it requires root.
I recommend buying your 6P new (if you decide to go with it and if you can find one). When you buy a used phone you have no idea how badly the battery was abused.

I just sold my OnePlus 3T, it was a great phone, the only thing that disappointed me was the camera. If camera was as good as the 6P I would of kept it for another year. It is very poor in low light and bad focus on the simplest shots. I think the OnePlus 5 will be the phone to look to next for a mid priced beast.

My 6P doesn't get hot, even when playing CPU/GPU intensive games like Asphalt 8. The 810 has been tamed on the 6P.

Those issues are some most users including myself never have had. Those kind of issues are not device specific either and the battery is actually pretty good for the phones age. The camera is amazing with 4k quality so I don't know what you're smoking and the audio quite actually is pretty decent and doesn't have crackling or tinny sounds. The call quality is actually amazing and very clear even compared to newer phones and my home phone. At times it can be quite but there are mods for that but for general users the audio is good enough. Keep in mind that many issues you may have heard are a small percentage and are usually reports from devices with an old degraded battery and maybe a buggy custom rom. Should I assume you don't have a nexus 6p? Before talking about a phone you don't have try researching about it.
I've been lurking for a few in this part of the forum. I currently own the Nexus 6 and they have reached EOL and was considering a jump to this one. Do you guys recommend it, I'm leery about the bootloop issues and early shut down of the phone but from what I've seen around the forums if you don't have those you guys are pretty happy with the device.

It is one of if not the best phones that came out at that time and is a fairly good price. The bootloop issues are not software related but occur when someone's battery degrades due to having it a long time or not taking care of it and how it is charged. Also the development on this phone including roms and kernels etc is some of the best. It is an amazing phone with no lags or bootloop issues and aslong as you aren't an idiot with your charging you shouldn't need to worry about any issues.

Plus I get to stick with Beans Roms, nothing against other developers as I'm sure they are good too but I've been a user of Beans roms for quite some time. Thanks, I loved my Nexus 6 but since it's only 32 bit it's time is coming to an end.
