I don't know what happened but the other day my touchscreen started acting up. For some reason the knock on doesn't work at all, but knock off does. Also there is like a strip about a half inch from the top of my screen where the touchscreen just does not work. I can't click on anything in that area. I'm running OptimuS v 2.2

Nobody else has had this problem?

Not with stock KK ROM, nope. Maybe others can help you. Otherwise I'd recommend doing factory reset. If that doesn't help, returning to stock to see if it's the ROM or hardware.
Im having that same problem im on stock rom it has never been droped i dont know how to fix it and now it gives me an alert saying it detects my screen is broken although its not

litterally out of the blue about 2 days ago, the 4 capacitive buttons on the front simply do not respond to touch...
and EVERYTHING else is working fine, keyboard, display, trackpad, everything else is working w/o a problem...
the lights behind the buttons come on, but no response when pressed...
its currently running Unity 1.27 (since released)
ive tried the patch via CWM to remap the keys to no avail... i am going to try and get into titanium to run a backup of apps, then wipe and flash version 1.31 of unity hoping its a software issue...
the closest thing i found to my issue (DZ related) was an issue with the light sensor causing the backlght to act up, but that isnt whats going on here, so as of now im at a total loss...
any help or direction would be greatly appreciated...
Ok, I wiped, flashed and installed 1.31 and same thing... Crap it has to be HW related then...
Ideas?

If you are sure its hardware related, then try to unroot your phone and see if you can get a replacement from your carrier.

You need to buy them and replace them. They come as a set with microphone and vibrator attached. Very cheap on ebay. Middle plate has to be separated from glass to get to them.

only problem is,im in FL-USA, and this came from canada... lol
buttons can be bought on ebay huh?
EDIT: would this be what im looking for?

EDIT: wouldnt i be lookking at getting a digitizer? but if that were bad wouldnt i have more areas besides jus the buttons none responsive?
Can anyone help clarify the part I should be looking for?
Our even have other ideas I could test?

Hi. I have had this Nexus 4 for about a month and it has does some strange things with the graphics on the bottom bar of buttons. Please see the screenshots attached. It can happen every few minutes and as soon as I touch the screen it will revert to normal again.
Is this something that is likely to get fixed with an update or a hardware issue?
I can't find anything on the internet referring to the same problem but the sales guy in the local carphone warehouse has a nexus 4 as well and said his does the same :-/
Anybody know what is causing it.
Completely stock BTW oh and as you can see. Pressing the hardware buttons for a screenshot does not fix it. Only touching the screen.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Wow.. thats not normal! I would look into RMA'ing that sucker!
You could try using a toolkit to reflash stock to see if that helps, however you will have to unlock the bootloader, flash stock rom and then relock bootloader, then you just go into settings and do a full reset to hide the developer options then you will be stock. The toolkit I use is this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2015469 and its awesome just follow the on screen prompts.
I'm quite sure that this is a software issue, since hardware issues can't be captured by screenshots obviously. I'd recommend flashing it with whatever you like and do a factory reset. You can restore all apps afterwards ofc (use Titanium Backup for example).
Best regards!

That only means that it isn't an issue with the physical screen. It could still be an issue with the GPU or other hardware, since various hardware is used to create that software image in the first place.
I have seen exactly this sort of picture posted in at least one thread before on here before, though that might be hard to find on a search.
I would also recommend reinstalling the ROM and if it still happens then it must be hardware. I strongly suspect that it is the hardware.

Thanks for all the replies
I have now disabled HW overlays and it does seem to have fixed the issue (or at least made it far better, I have not noticed it since but it has only been an hour)
I will keep in eye on it for a bit and if it lasts cone back and change the title of the thread to solved.
Thanks for all the help guys.

hmmm, and the gpu just decides to screw up down there in a perfectly aligned rectangular shape that happens to resemble the navigationbar? i think thats unlikely.
gimpor, can you play gpu accelerated games? try please.
its probably googles weird 4 layer stuff. thats why disabling hw overlays fixes it. same guy that screwed up the kernel colors that merged it into 4.2.2 btw. : P
gimpor again,
hwoverlay is not permanent, a reboot unchecks it. try this
replace persist.hwc.mdpcomp.enable=true
with debug.mdpcomp.maxlayer=3
in your build.prop
or in the worst case persist.hwc.mdpcomp.enable=false
Its much better but still not fixed. Only done it once in about 8 hours whilst playing a solitaire game. I will try the other suggestions when I have decoded them into English :-/
I have not found any games that don't work yet, bad piggies etc. Seem to work okay. Would they be GPU accelerated?
Once again thanks for the assistance with this, it does get rather annoying when you show someone your phone and it's all garbled.
It still does this though :-/

I haven't found out anything further and it's still doing it but not as bad. It doesn't seem to happen to every stock phone so I'm guessing its hardware related, or at least something in software not playing well with this specific hardware. Mine is a 212 so they may have changed something on the later ones. I got it from Carphone warehouse on the UK as they were the only ones with stock. I had it changed already as the first one I got was DOA. I think it's going to have to go back if I can't get it fixed soon.

Any one else have a jittery screen? Occasionally my screen seems to glitch and like... I don't know... Fizzle to the right kind of and then returns to normal. Is this a known issue? Any one else have the issue I describe? I can't tell if it's the phone or the firmware (Stock), and if resetting it will work out or not. I think it's the phone personally and could classify as a manufacturers defect. Any thoughts?

That started happening to me too; I just thought it was an app freaking out. Every now and then it just jiggles left and right, as if it were shaking. Heck, I even had it happen in TWRP w/ Safestrap when doing a backup.
You have me worried about my own device now, lol.
I am on 4.1.2 and have not seen this issue before the update. I am rooted, but not unlocked.
Yea happens to me too never happened until the update
Sent from my XT907 using xda app-developers app
It happened to me before the update but not at all this bad, nor as noticeable.
Maybe it is software related them. This came with 4.1.1 just updated the other day and now it is definitely worse.
Sent from my XT907 using xda premium
Mine does it as well. Looks similar to how the screen shakes when you enter the screen lock password incorrectly but seems to be random. Most likely a software issue.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk HD
Yeah, but, it happens way too much for it to be acceptable or normal. Simple as that, my phone should not be twitching.
It went from happening once or twice every other day, to happening more than ten to twenty times a day. That's unnecessary, and unbelievably annoying.
I think I'm going to call Motorola.
Sent from my XT907 using xda premium
Same here. mines rare though
Sent from my XT907 using xda app-developers app
Happens to me as well, both at the lock screen and when using the phone, ( like browsing the internet) Most likely software related and not something to worry about
Mine does it too, seems to be common with this device.
I would assume firmware too, due to the above report of it happening in recovery.
It should still be brought to Motorola's attention in my opinion. It seems to be getting worse on my device though.
Sent from my XT907 using xda premium
Happening to me to. I'm completely stock, non-rooted, running the latest OTA 4.1.2
Seems to be getting worse too
Happening to me since the update as well. Stock unrooted.
Also seems to be increasing in frequency.
Yeah my frequency is increasing as well here, and I'm thinking it's firmware / hardware, not software. Driver issue maybe? But I'm thinking it's mostly hardware related since most seem not to be having the issue we have, leading me to believe it's a manufacturer's defect

Hmm, so other ROMs are unaffected. Interesting. Weird since mine does it in safe strap (twrp), but I guess its a very low level driver freaking out.

my screen bottom and right side are not touchable as the attachment, bottom and right out of the blue line are not touchable. I'm not sure about the bottom area, but the right side surely became untouchable after I flashed a CM 10 rom, so I guess this is a software problem. yet reset and flash new ROM doesn't fix it. Is there anything i can try to fix it? much appreciate!
Never heard this kind of a software problem. I don't think it's a rom issue. May be your touch screen broken.
That looks like a sense ROM to me. Maybe your screen is messed like conzzy said

I'm having the same issue. Started when using a sense ROM, but the problem has persisted with a couple of CM ROMS as well, so figuring it's a hardware issue...

I think we have the same thing, and it is the reason i think it's a software problem that the issue came after flashing a ROM. But everyone believe it's a hardware issue, haha. Probably it's time to change a new phone.
I have the same problem too. The bottom part of the screen doesnt respond in some apps but responds in others. And its not like say it responds in whatsapp today it wont respond for whatsapp next time. If it doesnt respond for a certain app, thats it,it wont respond to that app again no matter what I tried. And I dont think its hardware related. Cause if it was, why would the area that doesnt respond for app A respond to app B. I dont really remember when it started but it started when I was using slimbean rom 4.2.
