Can someone suggest if the multi window feature of galaxy note 2 can be ported to galaxy s2 ???
4.3' screen hmmmm
buy Gnote 2 and u will get multi window
it will b great if it happen i m sure that it will b possible on Paranoid android rom may b
it would be a good idea but you will need a s-pen or move the selected window up when you use the keyboard, im not sure how its done on the note 2 but its a must with multitasking, have a note pad on one side and the web on another, will help copy and paste information.
I wouldn't say it would be impossible, but I'd say it would be freaking difficult. I was one of the people who tried to port the S3 ROM to the S2 and trust me, it is one hell of a job. So, I don't thin any dev would be up for porting the Note 2 ROM for S2. NVM, I'm gonna get a Note 2 anyway.
Wow. What I would give to have this on my S2. So many possibilities! Been using dual monitor on my pc for a while now, hoping it would be similar in a way, the productivity increase could really be worthwhile.
But i can see this would take a lot of work to implement on our devices. :\
I believe the framework has to modified ..meanwhile use the floating widget app
multitasking window

yes, you are right. Similar to x-plore.apk which has two screens side by side. It helps copy the files and paste it to different locations within the phone and memory card. Its an amazing app with lot of nice features. I simply love it and nothing equalant to that as of now. what do the community think? :good:

I got that program too, its the only file manager you need, open zips, apk as zips, it helps alot with transferring photos to their right folders to external sd. I remember it was on symbian mobiles but just with one pane,
in paranoid android you can change the dpi and layout so it displays more on the screen, helps alot and its not too large, with contacts you can get a similar result to xplorer, have all your contacts on one side and the other is the details of who you clicked on, same with settings, calendar, google rss reader,
This?

I, too, would like this feature in S2. Although I am thinking of getting a Note2 anyhow.
Do you think it'll be possible now since its coming on the s3? It would be a great feature to have.
Completely useless on small screens IMVHO.

I used DisasterROM v9 and flashed a mod specifically for this ROM, cause the SecSettings.apk was heavily edited.
I'm now using DisasterROM v10 and multiwindow is working, but I've lost the toggle to switch it on/off.

Hi, if you haven't heard of it the Samsung Note II has a very interesting feature: Split screen multi window support. Here's a video:
As you can see, it works very well and makes multitasking on the device a breeze. The video states that only a few apps are supported which is kind of correct; devs can add support to their apps with a single line of code, or you can flash a new list of supported apps to manually add support for the ones you want.
In my opinion, if this was added to AOSP it could be the killer feature that would set Android apart from iOS. But that's not the point of my post, what I'm wondering is if this feature can be ported to run on the Nexus 4. I don't know much about Android development, but it seems like there are two options for this to happen:
1. Port Touchwiz from the Note II to the Nexus 4, and then remove bloatware apps/retheme so that it looks more like AOSP.
2. Somehow remove the split-screen component from the touchwiz ROM, port to AOSP, profit.
Obviously #2 is preferable, but pretty far fetched. Can any developer folk provide some insight on whether either of these are feasible? I would really love to heave this feature on my phone.

Split-Screen apps is not part of touchwiz it is part of the framework (for lack of a better term) system behind touchwiz. There are people on the GNote10 forum here at xda that have rooted and are running different launchers other than touchwiz but they are still getting Split-Screen Multitasking.

That's what I thought but there are several people that say they have replaced (what they call the ugly resource hog) TouchWiz and still have the multi-screens by replacing the launcher. So they claim the muli-screens are part of the (their name for it) framework. All I know is I wish the multi-screens and floating windows could be part of Android so multi-screens and floating windows could be on all android devices because they really help productivity.

Essentially, Google asked Onskreen/Cyanogenmod to stop. The touchwiz version doesn't have the same compatibility problems because the app developer must integrate support into his app, instead of it working automatically.

They are referring to touchscreen as the visible elements (adjustments to notifications, touchwiz launcher, etc.) and in the technical sense. They have only hidden these elements, not removed them (except for the launcher and default apps). The ROM is still based off of a touchwiz ROM, and not AOSP, hence the multi window options remain.

I agree, but with most 2013 flagships being FullHD 5" phones, I think this feature is becoming increasingly useful. Splitting a 1080p screen in the middle leaves 2x 1080x960 halves, easily enough to functionally use most apps (at least while the keyboard isn't displayed) imo.

While personally I don't much of a point for this on small screens - it still stands that the smaller screens of today are still going on resolutions that used to be tablet domain, Now that the lines between tablets, phablets and tablets have been getting much more blurry - and many of all 3 are based on same SoCs (Both due to SoC & auxiliary size shrinking and avg phone size growing) - this function should hopefully be revived.
Especially considering the developement an outspread of highly capable android tablets during the last year.
Hey everyone!

Yeah, I'll likely be waiting on 4.2.2. And that's also assuming that Sony didn't go ahead and rectify that on the 4.2.2 build. (As that's a rather offsetting UI change.)

+1 for something stock based!
Because I definitely want the special features (MHL, IR blaster, Small Apps etc.), and in AOSP-based ROMs it seems rather unlikely that we will get these...
yeah, stock based would be awesome. do not want to miss out on some cool features like the remote control etc
do people look in the development section. Apache; a contest winner is making a ir blaster for aosp roms so we can use tablet as remote

Yeah, honestly I was thinking something stock based as well, unless I can port some of the features to a CM or AOSP based rom. Truth be told, I actually prefer the Sony interface over AOSP; and I'm a huge AOSP supporter. Sony did it right with their interface. Minimal additions, but all seemingly add to the appeal of the interface. The small apps are quite nice too; and those would be rather hellish to port to AOSP.
@skiwong20 ; That's fine and dandy, but the application is far from mature at this point, and it's hardly the most appealing looking application at this time. No disrespect to the developer, as he's done a great job. But the maturity of the application simply isn't there, yet.
The ROM style I dig is best summed up with a look at the Viper ROMs on HTC devices. Mostly stock, but with an external mod supplied app that allows to toggle all the small and nifty tidbits... Changing app drawer grid size, modifying hardware buttons and the behavior of the soft buttons.
Adding stuff like: quick double tap on task manager icon does not bring up the app list but just toggles back to the last used app. Double tap Home goes directly to Google Now or something else, user-configrable, etc.
If its unclear let me knoe, and I will elaborate, its late here, need to sleep

I'd like a port of the Nexus 7 Ubuntu desktop ROM to this tablet. I know folks like android, but this thing is basically an HD-res desktop PC. That's thinner than a pencil.
The main hiccup is the Xorg driver, but I think this has some probability of working: http://freedreno.github.io/
Anyway, I'd be willing to collaborate on it, but I'd like to see Ubuntu Core working on this without all the Ubuntu Touch bits...

Not so much developement in this section, definitely recovery for locked bootloader is missing, I don't really need it myself as I'll unlock it soon when more stuff will be available but some have requested.
An Advanced Stock Kernel would be cool too, for now only DoomKernel is available.

I don't know exactly in Tablet Z, but if you decompile some apps from Xperia S, Xperia Z, there are stuff in bools.xml, for example, that activates some nice stuff. Sadly, no one managed yet to deodex the stock ROM, that's why there is no stock based ROMs around. You need a deodexed ROM to make some mods...
Tough choice, dev. Stock looks really cool and keeping the functionality of the multitasking windows and the IR blaster would obviously be great, but isn't the lag quite bad in simple scrolling of home screens? I would say pure Android would be better on this device but that is just my humble opinion :cyclops:
Looking forward to seeing your great work.
Well I'm running CM10.1 on my Xperia Z Tablet SGP311 - works pretty well, no GPS, no IR Blaster
Although it has the horrible navigation buttons in the middle - I'm always hitting either home or back or multi-task when I'm typing away furiously - but I must admit that I like the top use for notifications. Seems logical to have it up the top.
Either way OP all I'm after is the something regularly maintained, with good communication. I know thats a lot to ask, but its critical if people want to use your hard work.
Thanks in advance mate.

Hello everyone,
This is my first time posting and I am fairly new to android, ROMS, development, etc.
Please forgive me if I ask any dumb questions or ones that have already been asked before, but so far, I haven't been able to find too much info on this.
I recently flashed the Temasek CM11 WO3 tweaks ROM and it worked amazing, however,as I'm sure everyone knows, there is no support for things like Air Command, air view, air gestures, etc. First, I was wondering if there are any mods/add ons that would be able to make use of this functionality, and second, I was wondering if it would be possible to place stock Samsung apps (snote3, action memo, etc) on the SD card and subsequently install them while running an AOSP ROM like the temasek one mentioned above? Would that work or would it just be a pointless endeavor?

Hello
Stock Samsung apps require samsung frameworks in order to work on your phone. In other words, you can't have samsung and AOSP at the same time. This is why you don't see samsung and HTC apps available for other devices, as they will not work without being excessively hacked to work with other frameworks
In an analogy.. the bonnet on a ferrari will not fit on my mazda3 without being hacked to fit, to work on the different framework

There are equal alternatives to S-Note and other Samsung s-pen apps.
Try:

Together with:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tushar.spen_helper
Or maybe:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmd.spencontrol
Been using Samsung along with AOSP based roms for years now and haven't missed Samsung S-Pen apps a sec.
Nice, and what apps do you suggest for jotting notes down using the Spen? I was under the impression that Evernote supported it but I was never able to find this option in the program.
I haven't used Evernote in a while, so things might have changed. And I'm on SlimKat ROM, so I guess I'll need additional software to make Spen work.

You could try Handrite, there's a free and pro version on the Play store.
You can have multiple notebooks in which to save your notes (on the free version you can only have 3 notebooks) and there are multiple options to customise your text (colours, underline, you can mix your writing with regular text input, etc)
evernote. handwriting
I use evernote pretty regularly. When you creat page you can go to the top There is a plus symbol at the top. Press this and gives you drop down menu. May eed to hit more handwriting is there.
They are correct spen features must use touchwiz. You can use a launcher that makes device feel different and aircommands etc will work. I am running a rom based off i317 and n7105 hybrid that have these options. Great thing is that you can sync snote with evernote so can open with aircommands and then will sink to evernote. This way you can view on another device like computer.
The advantage to slim rom is removal bloatware makes cor a smooth runnig device. Oems sometimes push their own without actually working to optimize like they should. Poor battery etc.
If you want something similar to aircommands you could try something like pie controls. Have it set to launch an app.
You might try something like papyrus. I believe it has setting to use finger or active pen in menus.
Enjoy!

Most people get a Note for the Spen features and you will lose most all of them and specifically the Air Command if you go with Cyanogen Mod. I had the Nexus 7.2 for a bit and in my opinion AOSP is very boring. A couple of years ago phones and tablets did not have the processing power to deal with TW and Sense so AOSP was very helpful for a better experience but now that is a non issue. The biggest problem with getting AOSP on this device is the cost. Most developers are not going to buy it.

You have to be kidding me. There are plenty of manufactures who give a vanilla or near vanilla experience. The nexus is a great high end vanilla experience. Why are you knowingly buying products you do not like? Like it or not, what sets *most* Android manufacturers apart are the skins they create.
Samsung must be doing something right now selling the lion's share of Android systems. I bought the note for a reason and Cyanogenmod cannot provide that same experience no matter how many 3rd party apps are installed.

The Spen features are built into the framework. Cyanogen Mod does not have the feature in its framework. Also the Note devices have a Wacom digitizer along with the standard capacitive touchscreen. Some apps will work in Cyanogen mod but no apps which use the Samsung SDK for pen features will work. While I used the Nexus 7 2013, Cyanogen Mod was the worst of the AOSP based roms as they changed their drivers from AOSP based to CAF based which broke lots of things. The best AOSP roms are AOKP and Paranoid Android. AOSP would change this tablet into a faster Nexus 10 which I had and got the Note 2014 because of the Spen features.
PS Ditch the CAPSLOCK. No need in yelling since you are voicing opinions.
I do want CM on this. I prefer CM to TW, and I can see people who don't use the other TW features extensively benefit from CM. The only TW feature I use extensively is multiwindow, which can sorta be done on CM using Xposed right now (but not as good apparently). The only thing I'm not sure about is how Spen will be affected. I don't really use any of the S-apps, I mainly write on Papyrus and a bunch of other third party apps - which I hope shouldn't be affected?

I completly agree with you.
S Pen Apps are nice, but I don't use them often. I'm using my S Pen to draw, to write things quickly (yeah, an S Pen app but can replaced by an App from the Play Store) and to control easily the Note. That's a lot of good things, but they all can work on CM.
Multi Windows is the problem. Yes, there are few nice apps that can replace it, but far from TW's feature. But i guess that when the developers will want to bring it as an App, they'll to it.

It would probably help you out to go to the Note 3 forums to see how AOSP roms are functioning since they are similar.
Look at that guys:

I know it's not CM (Omni will probably wont get to our device anytime soon), I just want you to see that it's possible...
Who knows..maybe if CM comes to the TabPro, we might be able to get it since the hardware is practically the same.
Options are always nice. Some people (like me) are considering buy the Note 10.1 instead of the Tab Pro because of the 3gb RAM and because you can get a 32 GB version now. Couldn't care less about the pen! Would very much like some stock ROM options.

GOD, you gotta be kidding me!
You can get almost ALL of the TW features in Vanilla! With some Apps and more Devs... It's the meaning of Android - we can always change software!

I like the Note, cuz it's coming with special pressure screen and s pen. Now I promise you that porting s pen's fetures from TW to CM is possible.
Yes, It wont be EXACLY like TW's features. But Vanilla has another great things to offer that will cover on it.
IT'S - ALL - SOFTWARE!

Great so find me a software replacement for any app in a floating window, 4 way split screen, a note pad that turns my handwriting into executable information, screen grabs I can easily edit, drag and drop, and a note app and finder that can even search for handwritten text. There is a reason nobody uses aosp or cyanogenmod on the note line up. Because it sucks at replicating touch wiz Very very badly. If all you wanted was a pressure sensitive pen and screen go get a nexus ten and a sketchbook and some pencils. It's the same thing right?

Why do you care so much about how someone else uses their tablet? If you don't want a stock ROM, don't use it easy.

Actually Xposed is fairly close to replicating that multiwindow/floating window situation. The drag and drop screenshot thing is cool, but it is so limited in its use because I can't even paste screenshots on any other apps outside of the S-app world. Also if no one used CM on the Note lineup then there wouldn't be CM on the Note 3 and Note 2012, lol.

MAME is strictly a non-profit project. Its main purpose is to be a reference to the inner workings
of the emulated arcade machines. This is done both for educational purposes and for preservation
purposes, in order to prevent many historical games from disappearing forever once the hardware they
run on stops working. Of course, in order to preserve the games and demonstrate that the emulated
behavior matches the original, you must also be able to actually play the games. This is considered
a nice side effect, and is not MAME's primary focus.
Drag and drop text supports any app that uses the android system text copy and paste functions. as for as I can tell. Most text fields take it. And you can share screenshots almost anywhere. And what I meat was that very few people prefer the Hosp roms. Hence the giant number of TW Roms in comparison.
